Transformers
Ok, don't ask me why, but...
Optimus dances like they did in the 50s. Classy and simple. He doesn't dance unless he knows (or thinks) no one is watching. I would like to believe, though, that he wouldn't mind dancing in front of Elita.
Imagine, in Transformers Prime...
*Miko blasts music at full volume; Bumblebee is the first to jump in and rock some epic dance moves*
*Optimus observes from a distance, then excuses himself*
*Ratchet rolls his eyes and gets back to work*
*Ultra Magnus watches in confusion*
*Arcee, Bulkhead, Jack, Raf, and Smokescreen (a terrible dancer, but he does his best) join Miko and Bumblebee*
Later, the group goes out to scout; Ratchet and Optimus hang back. Ratchet is weary from working and tells Optimus that he needs to take a quick break. He leaves the base. Optimus considers the speakers a minute. He surveys the base and double checks the cameras. Finally, he gets the speakers to work, but it switches to a different album Miko rarely plays, as she prefers rock over older music. 50s music comes on. Optimus nods his head and taps his feet. Again, he surveys the base. Then, he starts dancing the way they did in the 50s. Well, the way humans do. He's good at it. He smiles a little bit.
Meanwhile, the others get back to the base. Jack hears the music playing and throws his hand out to stop Miko before she can sprint into the room. Arcee cocks her head and wordlessly tells the others to be quiet. Ratchet peers around the corner and stares in shock. Eventually, they all stare in shock. They whisper to each other.
Smokescreen: Our leader is more impressive than we thought.
Miko: I am never deleting that album.
Not wanting to embarrass Optimus, they hang back and wait until the music stops, then casually enter. Optimus awkwardly stands to the side. The others get back to work, and Optimus gradually relaxes and asks them whether they saw anything out of the ordinary. They shake their head and converse for a bit. Miko turns the speakers on, and 50s music comes back on.
Miko: Huh. I forgot I had this album.
Optimus: It is good to extend your knowledge on a variety of... musical tastes.
Miko: You know, Optimus, if you ever did dance, I think this would fit you well.
Optimus: Hm.
Still, he smiles. The others have to hide their smiles.
Not only that, but Peter Cullen probably grew up with this kind of music.

In the splatoon fanbase, there are many misconceptions surrounding the relationship between inklings and water. without fail whenever I mention something related to the topic I'll get replies of "actually the canon is [some popular but incorrect theory]" "no they can do this and this canonically [it's actually a headcanon]" "no its really [something NOA made up]"
so to briefly go over The Facts:
Inklings canonically die when submerged in water. And yes, getting "splatted" is them dying for real, respawning is also an in-universe thing that has existed for at least 2000 years and not just a game mechanic. While the dying in water thing originally came from a game mechanic, it has been repeatedly stated that they incorporated this into the inkling's biology. The water weakness is not because of the water itself being toxic. The reason is based in osmosis. in the process of their evolution, Inklings (and octolings) changed a lot, and one of these changes was the ability to transform between a humanoid and swim form. Doing this transformation requires skin that is a thin, semi permeable membrane [this kind of skin is a trait found in real life molluscs]. The evolutionary trade off is that, because of how semi permeable their skin is, the ink inside of their bodies will bleed out when in contact with another liquid. This is the answer given directly by the series' creator. And here it is confirmed that while the water weakness originated from game mechanics, it is very much became a part of an inkling's in-universe biology. Kind of like how a slug will die if you sprinkle salt on it (for a reason that's almost the same as the inklings), but ultimately needs salt in its diet through the food it eats to live, inklings do drink water and other liquids. Its also not like they touch water and immediately explode, it seems they can wash their hands in it and dip their feet in it and be fine.
Some people think the water weakness is stupid, personally i think its reasonable because Inkling biology is already weird as hell and of how ridiculously advantageous it is to be an ink-based cephalopod. the ink gives them the ability to jump absurdly long distances and cheat death to an extent. they're not losing much by not being able to dunk themselves in water. Anyway point is it sucks that all the relevant canon information on this is one of those japan only things/exclusive to developer interviews and pretty much every time it's brought up in English the localizers make shit up. I plan to make a video about this one of these days, but with how 'controversial' the topic is, and how many little details and connected concepts there are, I've been holding it off because I want to do it right. there's also some specific details that are unclear that I've been hoping would be clarified in the artbook or a dev interview but haven't, I might just have to go for it at this point. for the time being, i hope this post helps clear up a few things!
#splatoon lore#splatoon biology#splatoon#inkling biology#long post#actually surprised i hadnt made a post about this yet#anyway god i do need to make that video to get in depth on every mention of water is like. essay length#not to mention the repeated mentions of osmosis in relation to inkling biology that doesnt make it outside of jp#inklings#biology

Ozai was supposed to be Amon
My meta theory about TLOK is that the entire show is just ATLA Book 4 chopped up, diluted, and repackaged. I wholeheartedly believe Amon was supposed to be Ozai in disguise.
Remember that scene in TLOK when Amon's mask flew off and he revealed that he was a bender?
With the tension rising, the animation and music, you would think it would've revealed a previous big bad that the characters have dealt with before that had returned to power. But no. As I watched it years ago, I felt like I hit a brick wall, wondering "who the fuck is that?" It didn't stick the landing for me.
I believe this scene was supposed to be the finale of ATLA Book 4 and the reveal was supposed to be Ozai. From a writing perspective, that would make more sense for a masked villain reveal.
I did not care for the use of bloodbending to lock or take away someone's bending. It doesn't make sense in the magic system of the Avatar universe. But having Ozai learn to energy bend, reverse engineering what Aang did to him, that makes sense.
But wait, isn't the Avatar the only one that can energy bend? Not necessarily.
As the lion turtle said, "Before the age of the Avatar, we bent not the elements but the energy within ourselves. To bend another's energy, your own spirit must be unbendable, or you will be corrupted and destroyed."
If ancient people did this before the Avatar even existed, it stands to reason that energy bending is not an exclusive power only the Avatar can do. An important thing about energy is that it is all around us and within us. Also, energy cannot be destroyed nor created, it can only transform.
Aaron Ehasz had stated in an interview that his ideas for Book 4 was supposed to include the negative consequences of taking Ozai's firebending. Since energy cannot be destroyed, Ozai's firebending had to go somewhere. Aang took in Ozai's firebending into himself and he would have to deal with the personal consequences of that.
On a wider scope, bringing back the ancient art of energy bending to the collective consciousness should have negative consequences as well. The whole show is about yin and yang ideas, light and dark, 2 sides of the same coin. What if something that was used for good was also used for evil?
Now I think Aang was naively incorrect about Ozai. Aang states that he took away his firebending so he could not hurt anyone else ever again. But for someone such as Ozai, his firebending wasn't the only source of power he wielded. Ozai was the leader of a fascist imperialist regime, he would have skills in manipulation of the masses and bending people to his will. He doesn't necessarily require firebending to do so.
So what does one do after they've been dethroned and crave revenge? Start a cult.
Amon has hints of being a cult leader, especially when he says that the spirits had given him the power to take people's bending away. Cult leader 101, make it seem like you have an exclusive, God-given superpower.
The TLOK writers tried to go for an oppression narrative where the nonbenders were suppressed by bender gangs. I think this was grasping at straws to replace the narrative that was meant for ATLA.
Imagine, Ozai wanting to start a cult so that people would willingly give up their firebending so that he may take it for himself, growing in power the more he takes. He would take advantage of the down and lost people of the Fire Nation. The people are disappointed in the loss of the Hundred Year War and the economic downturn that resulted shortly after and are disgruntled by Zuko's leadership thus far. Ozai would tell the people what they want to hear, feeding into their anxieties and fears, spinning webs of lies. He would propose to tear down the government then replace it with something new, a new world order, something with him at the center of it. And Ozai would do this with the assistance of the Fire Sages and high ranking government officials who have all sworn their loyalty to him.
Now THAT sounds like better villain motivation!

Big day for annoying people (me)
The two new eps of ML were good? Like wow it’s been great so far except ep 3 was comparatively a flop imo. Werepapas was so, idk, enticing lore-wise but I don’t have much to say that other people haven’t except that they’re clearly NOT neglecting past plot points, making the tone too silly goofy all the time, nor retconning important stuff like some people worried they would. We have been FED. I’m sure Felix is involved in that ring bs somehow, but idk if his intentions are pure or not.
Warning for the only salty thing I’m gonna say on this post: I’m so tired of going into the fandom tag and seeing people whining about “bad writing” problems that literally never happened based entirely on their own incorrect predictions they made up to make themselves mad. Ugh anyway. This post is gonna be about small details I latched onto in Daddycop!
We got to see glimpses of Sabrina and Max’s rooms this ep! Max’s room looks like a Star Trek spaceship but the books on his bookshelf are kinda giving those reference books at the library of like, archived government documents or research papers iykwim whereas the books in Alya’s room look like manga. An interesting thing I noticed in Sabrina’s room is that she has a line of framed certificates on the wall, maybe academic awards or something similar
Did they ever say if Markov can see Kaalki or not? I’m sure they will eventually but idk which option I like better. It’d be cute if they were friends but it’d be pretty funny if he had to watch Max talk to the secret floating ghost who lives with them now and not question it
List of things Sabrina dumps in the trash: yellow nail polish, the brooch Chloe gifted to her/bribed her with in season 1, the cat ear headband from her Chat Noir cosplay when she and Chloe were roleplaying as him and Ladybug in season 3, a beret, maybe the one Chloe tried to bribe her with in s1, Chloe-style sunglasses, a Queen Bee doll, a photo of them together in the old animation, and a mug/tumbler? Maybe a gift from her as well idk maybe they’re selling Queen Bee-themed Stanley cups over there.
:((((( Aw Sabrina nooo I hate seeing her so sad and the way she lied to her dad so he would think she’s happy and has friends
I think this might be the first time the show referred to Fire Captain Hessenpy by name?
Marinette’s scooter has the T+S logo on it and a sticker that says Boulangerie Paris
Between eps 2 and 4 I’m getting the sense that Sabrina uses Miss Hound as an escape kinda like CN where she feels like she can become instantly likeable, trustworthy, helpful, and useful through the inherent credibility of being a superhero. She has anonymity, can sort of start over on a blank slate, and is automatically implied to be a good person since Ladybug entrusted her. I’m guessing we’re gonna see more of that blank slate idea with other characters and what they’ll do with it, but it’s telling that Sabrina decides to transform to resolve people’s minor inconveniences, especially when she’s feeling bad about herself. It’s like she’s proving a point to herself but also giving herself something productive to do.
The GIRLS Ahhhhh let’s go lesbians
Noticing a clear absence of Alix. Ik the special implied she has to keep hiding in the burrow from Lila but she’s all normal-looking in the intro and they can’t shelve her forever. I feel like something is gonna change to make her be able to return.
^^^ ALSO she’s the only hero with zero design updates and my theory is that the purpose of that is so she can do contrived time nonsense like going back to earlier seasons and going forward without contradicting anything or revealing which time period she’s actually from
I gotta say the side character writing has progressively been better and better throughout the show. Atp they really feel like actual people with their own opinions and motivations. In the early days they felt more like lovable NPCs who talked occasionally but now they’re real characters? With free will? I feel like I just watched Pinocchio get turned into a real boy
The pro-healthy eating censorship/propaganda/whatever in this show is so funny omg. Juleka: I brought fruit tea Mylene: wow that’s so much better than the sugary soda we had last time LMAO. To balance out Rose holding a bag of popcorn they gave Zoe two burlap sacks full of oranges which tbf I’d rather snack on those during a movie than popcorn but still. I saw a vid recently about gravity falls adding random bowls of fruit next to characters eating junk food because they were getting flagged as promoting unhealthy habits. I keep thinking about that moment in Ikari Gozen when Mari asks Kagami out for “juice” when any normal teen would’ve said “coffee” like nope no caffeine in my good Christian miraculous
Love Kagami being a pretentious film nerd go hang out with Nino
RED ALERT YOU GUYS Mylene has an inclusive pride flag pin on her overall strap. Like the rainbow flag with the trans triangle and the black stripe. It’s not subtle or anything it’s just right there wow. Damn
The pin above it reminds me of Timebreaker’s logo. I wonder what some of these pins mean
Ok last season they seem to have established that Sabrina became friends with Marc and Nathaniel who were both explicit Sabrina Supporters since their akuma episodes, so it feels sort of convenient that they were written out of the narrative for this ep. I do see the whole Girl Squad thing and how she feels excluded when all the girls in the group hang out together without her, doing traditional girl things like movie night sleepovers, so I do think it’s totally valid. Her having absolutely zero friends is hyperbolized though.
On that note I have to wonder if the school might have several lunch periods because none of the male characters expect Adrien and Nino were there. Or maybe they just stage the scene with whoever is convenient. They might have flexible lunch schedules and all the other characters are off somewhere else.
Rose mentioned a girl whose name I didn’t recognize and after rewinding i can’t tell what she said. Aglie? New character? Maybe she’s that black girl with pink hair who was sitting with Adrien, Nino, and Sublime at lunch
KAGAMI AND ONDINE ARE CANONICALLY FRIENDS this is like the Superbowl for me. I’m so excited for Sleeping/Princess Syren I need to see her.
God the girls were so messy in that scene where they didn’t want to invite Sabrina lol I kinda love it I can’t even be mad
Zoe, your lab safety is atrocious. Not only are you taking your goggles off while still in the lab, but then you *leave the room* and *touch someone* with your gloves still on?! Diabolical. What are they even doing, soldering computer chips?
Marinette when I catch you Marinette
Roger’s relationship with Sabrina is actually so cute even though he’s kinda misguided as a person GOD when he’s on his way to console his crying daughter and Lila enters his mind space and he’s cradling his arms like he’s clearly seeing her as his baby 🥺 nobody talk to me
Alexa play I bet on losing dogs by mitski. Myyyy baby my baby…
We got a glimpse of the baddest bitch in Paris Xavier Ramier I’m so happy
Sabrina shapeshifted her necklace into a brooch. Huh. I guess you can just do that
The power of believing in herself allowed her to yassify her own character design into a cuter and more fashionable superhero! This is basically just like real life if you think about it
Her ball has a doggy nose on it awww
Lila telling Roger to turn around so she could back him up and fire the anti akuma was badass okay
I’m not sold on the loud ass makeup they have a lot of the characters wearing so I’m glad we got to see the girls with clean faces at the end there. Wow they look so normal! I’m also loving the pajama designs. I had to pause and look at all of them.
Zoe had to stop and hit Sabrina with that rizz stare to make sure Sabrina wouldn’t be coming up with any platonic explanations for her behavior
I never thought I’d say these words, but I think a love triangle between Sabrina, Zoe, and Max would be fun. Imagine Zoe is into Sabrina, Sabrina isn’t exactly catching the hint and sees Zoe as a really nice friend, Sabrina kinda likes Max, and Max is like damn these bitches gay. Good for them.
The end card is so baby omg
I TOLD YOU GUYS Sabrina was gonna get a makeover and people were like uH No iTs JUsT An aNimATioN eRroR oF a ScRApPEd DeSiGn girl why the hell would they leave a scrapped design in the intro, and there’s no way they would accidentally not notice that much less repeat it
Mark my words white haired Caprikid is not an error either he’s real and he’s gonna collect all the chaos emeralds to get that way
A new diabolical twink has hit the scene. Ray’s pompous ass immediately reminded me of Preminger from Barbie. He looks like he rides horses. Like he tells people he’s into sports but then you find out the sport is just horse riding. Immediately invested. Who is this diva. I want him to get hit by a bus.
Ooooo Zoe was up to some Delinquent Shit in America this is so juicy. I looove when suspiciously perfect characters get revealed to be secretly fucked up that’s the best. I’ve always loved those types of headcanons, that she was expelled from her last school and moved to a different country all of a sudden for her mom’s PR. If you think about it, that’s exactly what happened to Chloe damn. Daughter commits PR disaster, do zero parenting about it, relocate daughter far away to start over with little consequence! I wanna see some parallels. I feel like she made it sound like she moved because she was getting bullied at her old school, but what if that was a lie, or at least a partial lie? You know shit’s serious when the exposition is in the post-post-endcard scene
The pacing of these episodes has been satisfying compared to previous seasons, especially 5. They aren’t trying to shove too much in, but there’s still a lot happening and fiiiinally a nice mix of plot and fighting. I was getting irritated by how rushed a lot of the fights were last season like might as well just not have them at all
Late edit: back to the pajamas because I forgot to analyze them, I have noticed that Juleka’s pants have bats on them :) frickin bats. They also have like… a crescent moon with something sitting on it? idk what that is. It’s like a pattern of cute spooky Halloween imagery. But the pants and her black lace tank top versus Rose’s sparkly pink unicorn onesie is adorb.
Zoe has a yellow tank and seems to be wearing her usual leggings under running shorts um? Outside clothes in bed? And her pink slides give the whole thing a sans undertale vibe. Oh what the fuck why do the feet of her tights have individual toes lmao. The horror. I hate it.
I can’t tell what Mylene is wearing except a black t-shirt that might have something white on it. OMG EDIT 2 ITS IVAN’S T-SHIRT FROM HIS OLD DESIGN YOU GUYS SHES WEARING HER BF’S OLD BAND TEE AS PAJAMAS. This is headline news myvan nation. She has maybe pink shorts and her slippers look like Uggs.
Kagami’s silk pjs look luxurious. I love how her clothes this season went from just preppy to being very obviously EXPENSIVE like she’s blending in with the gang but she’s still clearly rich af.
Sabrina’s pjs are a classic set with her usual argyle pattern on them. 10/10 would give her a warm glass of milk and read her a bedtime story. I wonder what she needs eye drops for because she told Roger she needs to pack them.
Excited to see more yay! I love the little details. It’s kinda a bummer that Sabrina spent most of her hero focus ep sobbing but we ball (see what I did there) and the end was so cutesy. So excited to probably watch episode 11 before episode 6

Writing Notes: Antipsychiatry
The term “antipsychiatry” originated in the 1960s to describe a broad-based movement that questioned the legitimacy of standard psychiatric theory and practice.
The movement specifically challenged the validity of psychiatric categories, diagnostic practices, and common forms of treatment.
The antipsychiatry movement was motivated by anger at the perceived arbitrariness of psychiatric diagnostic practice as well as outrage at the apparent inhumanity of certain treatments, such as electroconvulsive therapy and long-term involuntary hospitalization.
The original antipsychiatry movement was led by psychiatrists, many of whom resented the label “antipsychiatry” and insisted they wanted reform rather than revolution within the discipline.
The movement began as an understandable reaction to various missteps of psychiatry, such as the over-medicalization of mental health, the inhumane management of asylum care, and the inappropriate pathologizing of minority groups.
In the early days of the movement, it might be said that "anti-psychiatry" helped psychiatry to self-correct in a way that moved the discipline towards a more scientific endeavor reliant on empiric evidence, while maintaining a sharp focus on the interaction between biological, psychological, and social contributions to mental health and illness.
More recently, however, the anti-psychiatry movement has lost its way.
It has transformed from a predominantly academic and political movement to one of consumer groups, akin to the anti-vaccine saga.
In its current form, anti-psychiatry exists as a disorganized entity outside of mainstream medicine, largely propagated on social media and in non-peer-reviewed sources like newspaper opinion articles, books, and blogs that evade scientific dialogue and critique.
Modern anti-psychiatry is not a monolith, yet there are common themes that could be harmful to patients.
Different from helpful scientific criticism, it often takes the dangerous form of disinformation that aims to tear down the discipline and deter treatment-seeking.
Those who espouse anti-psychiatry ideology often lay charges against the very existence of psychiatric disorders and the wholescale efficacy of psychiatric medication.
While the late psychiatrists Thomas Szasz and R.D. Laing remain heroes of the movement, academic critics of psychiatry today are often psychologists with limited experience treating severe mental illness, involvement in medication management, or collaborating with psychiatrists.
A tragedy of anti-psychiatry is that its merit is lost in its extremism.
Refuting Common Tropes of Anti-Psychiatry
"Psychiatry still promotes the 'chemical imbalance' hypothesis to explain mental illness."
Not really.
The "chemical imbalance" explanation was an early and incorrect way to make sense of the effectiveness of medications that alter neurotransmitters like dopamine or serotonin in the brain, whereas in reality the biochemical mechanisms of mental illness and how treatments work are still being researched.
"It is not ethical to use a medication if one doesn't know the mechanism of action."
This has never been a principle of medicine.
Efficacy and safety are routinely established long before full mechanisms are understood and they guide future understanding of pathophysiology.
"Psychiatric medications are harmful."
All medical interventions can cause harm, including surgery, medications, psychotherapy, and recommendations to exercise.
In medicine, interventions must be understood and explained to patients in terms of "risk-benefit" relative to prognosis without treatment.
This is the foundation of informed consent.
"Psychiatric medications don't work."
There are a range of different psychiatric medications used to treat different conditions, each with varying levels of efficacy compared to placebo.
"Psychiatric diagnoses are made by checklist."
Sound diagnosis requires thorough investigation, interview, collateral history, objective examination, and sometimes "ruling out" medical disorders and other psychiatric issues.
Bonus side trope debunking: the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) is not the "Bible" of psychiatry -- it is more of an imperfect "rough guide" that continues to be revised.
"Psychiatrists practice 'biological psychiatry.'"
Modern psychiatry is a medicine subspecialty that seeks to understand mental illness based on the integration of biological, psychological, and social aspects of one's life.
In this respect, psychiatry was ahead of most medical fields in understanding the impact of psychology and social factors on health.
"Psychiatrists seek to 'medicalize normal.'"
The boundary between health and disease is "fuzzy" across all of medicine, where the treatment of disease overlaps with health promotion.
Generally speaking, psychiatry focuses on emotional suffering and impairments to functioning, whether it is an "expected reaction" or not.
"Mental illness doesn't exist."
The definitions and boundaries of particular mental disorders fluctuate over time, reflecting our shifting understanding of the biological, psychological, and social phenomena that account for them.
Mental disorders can best be understood as symptom clusters that co-occur in patterns that can be recognized and identified with good "inter-rater reliability" in order to guide evidence-based treatment approaches.
Psychiatry is far from a perfect science and must continue to evolve and improve over time and in response to criticism.

Sonic Theory: Metal Sonic's data-copying is derived from Gizoid technology.
I've long held the opinion that Metal Sonic's sudden advancements, transformation, and rebelliousness displayed in Sonic Heroes can be chalked up to Eggman incorporating Gizoid tech into him. Here's my reasoning:
1) Metal Sonic was at least present during the time that Eggman had Emerl. We know this because when Emerl first begins to speak, he refers to Sonic as "Metal", presumably confusing the two due to his still-developing mind. Blue hedgehog shape + Fast = Metal in his mind at that juncture.
2) Sonic Battle's prologue, where Eggman fails to gain control of Emerl due to his weak nerd noodle arms and discards him, or at least Eggman finding Emerl and beginning to study him, must happen before the start of Sonic Heroes. This is because Eggman's copies of Emerl, the E-121 Phi drones, bear a number and name that precedes Omega (Albeit that name is incorrect- Phi should be E-120, E-121 should be "Chi"). They have to have been built before Omega was.
3) If I recall correctly, Metal first displays the ability to copy data in Sonic Heroes, and before that his only copy-catting is through physical emulation of Sonic's speed and strength.
With this in mind, Eggman's access to the Gizoids predates Metal's rebellion and transformation into his Neo form (and the games do seem to treat it as a transformation, not a physical upgrade. I also doubt Eggman would design the transformation himself, he favours bigger, bulkier forms like Kai/Titan Metal). Eggman couldn't have built Omega and stationed him to guard Shadow while he was in the cell on the Final Fortress, so the rebellion must come later.
For the meat of the theory:
1) Eggman locates the Gizoid via Gerald's diary, stealing it from wherever GUN put it after they failed to get anything out of it themselves. His experiments with Gizoid technology then start with his attempts to control the original. These fail, as Eggman is not strong enough to form a Link with the Gizoid. The Gizoid then consumes Eggman's Chaos Emerald, and in a fit of rage, Eggman discards it from his base, leaving it to end up in the sea, where it drifts until the beginning of Sonic's episode of Sonic Battle.
2) Eggman then creates E-121 Phi, a near-exact replica of the Gizoid that doesn't have Gerald's pesky limiters on it. However, as he no longer has a Chaos Emerald, he is unable to bring Phi to life, rendering it even more inert than the real Gizoid. Frustrated, he decides to instead integrate the copy technology into a creation he has that already works: Metal Sonic.
3) Metal Sonic is upgraded with the Gizoid tech. At first, it works, and Metal displays the ability to copy technology and powers, storing the data of what he absorbs for his own use. However, Eggman has made a critical error- Without Gerald's failsafes, Metal does what the original Gizoid did before: He absorbs too much data, and is driven insane.
4) Metal's madness isn't as all-consuming as the Gizoid's- His experiences mean he had already developed a consciousness that the Gizoid lacked in its base state. However, his mind is warped by the overload, and he begins to believe that he is the real Sonic, and Sonic is the copy, despite his awareness that he was created to destroy Sonic. In his unhinged state, Metal finds himself free of Eggman's control, and locks up his creator, transforming into his Neo form (which is basically the equivalent of a Gizoid's Ultimate form). This is also when he becomes able to speak- He learned just like the Gizoid eventually will, but lacked the hardware needed to use this ability until he shapeshifted into a form with a voicebox.
5) Neo Metal Sonic concocts a plan to lure out the various teams of Sonic Heroes and copy their data into himself. He leaks the rumour about "Eggman's secret treasure" to attract Rouge to the hidden vault, freeing Shadow from his imprisonment. He then schemes to obtain the data of Perfect Chaos, by kidnapping Froggy and Chocola. This also draws Team Rose into the fray, allowing him to gain their data too. Using Gizoid tech would also explain why he didn't simply copy Shadow's data while he was in stasis- and keeps challenging the various teams with Eggman's mechs and robots: He has to actually witness them fighting to gain their data, just like the Gizoid does.
6) Neo Metal is defeated, and reverts to his base form before deactivating. Eggman reclaims him, but puts him on ice for a while.
7) The Gizoid washes up on Emerald Beach, and Sonic forms a Link with it, naming it Emerl after it absorbs another Chaos Emerald and begins copying him. Emerl begins to develop into a person.
8) Wanting Emerl back, Eggman decides to activate E-121. However, cautious of repeating Metal's rebellion, he places limits of his own on E-121, making it able to only mimic a single person, and not able to absorb more data. To make up for the loss of versatility, he builds multiple duplicates of the robot, making at least thirteen additional Phi robots.
9) In order to power them, he crushes the Chaos Emeralds he has access to into Shards. However, the Phi ultimately fail to capture their template, and are destroyed, with Tails fusing the Shards back together. Emerl absorbs all seven, and Shadow frees him from his destructive programming, only for Eggman to spitefully factory reset Emerl in an attempt to regain control, resulting in the near-destruction of Earth and Emerl's death.
10) Eggman uses data from Emerl and the E-121s to create Gemerl. As the Phi failed, he takes a risk of not restricting Gemerl's copy data again, instead closely monitoring its growth to halt it before it grows too strong. This too fails, as Gemerl is driven into Ultimate mode by the Chaos Emeralds, and after a repeat of Ultimate Emerl's rampage, is defeated and reclaimed by Tails.
11) In the wake of this, Eggman tries a different compromise. He reactivates Metal Sonic, but removes his ability to store data. Metal can now only copy people he is actively engaged with at the time, and loses these copied abilities afterward. This is why Metal can only use the abilities of his current opponent when he makes his return in Sonic Rivals and its sequel.
12) This too fails in the end. During Sonic Free Riders, Metal Sonic once again appears to be able to store data, and rebels against Eggman once more, taking all of the data he copied from the other racers for himself. Metal leaves at the end of this game, and his only appearances in main canon since that aren't prequels, time travel to CD, or illusions, are him being retroactively added to Sonic Colours by the port, and IDW. It's possible that Eggman captured and reprogrammed him again, or perhaps it's simply a different Metal.
13) Restoring Metal to his Neo form in IDW, which Eggman was retroactively doing during Sonic Forces, is a desperation move. Eggman was losing the war by that point, and figured potentially letting Neo Metal off the chain again was worth the risk. Ultimately, Neo Metal remains loyal this time, so perhaps Eggman was able to fix the problem at last, or maybe Neo Metal just didn't absorb enough data to go unstable again. After all, Gemerl did what he was told until he overloaded too (Personally I'd prefer it to be a balancing act, that using Neo Metal is a risk every time, rather than Eggman gaining perfect control, but that's largely irrelevant).
At the moment I think this holds up, and accounts for every canonical source that fits into the main series. That said, if I've missed something, feel free to point it out.

One thing I haven't seen anybody else mention about Dr. Hillary Cass's whole "transition success should be judged by employment success, getting 'out of the house', marriage, and sex life, not happiness" thing is that it's a textbook example of biopower and biopolitical discourse. And I think it's important to be able to take apart what she's doing. Cass is not breaking new ground in the field of transphobia here, she's parroting some of the beliefs that have been causing issues for trans people for decades now. She's doing biopolitics.
This is Foucault theory so I'm giving a very abridged version here: Biopower is power over bodies. As Foucault writes in Vol 1 of the History of Sexuality: Power is no longer about having ultimate dominion over death, but instead about being able to control life itself. In Biopower, power has more than just the threat of death, it has access to our bodies and lives as well. When combined with the concept of the medical gaze, it can be said that medicine is no longer a body of techniques for curing illnesses, but is now an institution with the ability to define "health" and "normality".
In biopolitics, the body becomes a political object, and various technologies, political strategies, and diciplinary techniques operate upon bodies through various institutions in order to shape them and integrate them into society. Ultimately, what is defined as the healthy and valuable body is seen as necessary for the society/nation to thrive. The ideal body is the body of the "ideal citizen", one who fits definitions of "normality".
Within biopower, the purpose of trans healthcare is not to affirm gender or improve the lives of trans individuals. Instead, it is to create "healthy", "productive", "docile", and "normative" bodies that adhere with both the gender binary and understandings of the ideal citizen.
The criteria that Cass states that she thinks the success of transition should be judged by (employment, social involvement, and ability and willingness to participate within heteronormative relationship dynamics) is a list of things expected of "ideal citizens".
In the view of individuals like Cass, who funtion within biomedical discourses, transition isn't about allowing trans people to modify their bodies in ways that bring them joy, better embody their identities, and/or that allow them to feel more like themselves. Transition is instead purely about correcting percived dysfunction, to allow those percived by them as dysfunctional men and women to be transformed into normative, unproblematic, binary adhering, and productive women and men. Options like being non-binary, or using this transition technology to change your body in ways that do not align with medical understandings of binary transition, are seen as invalid, as they create disruption and non-normativity as opposed to 'curing' or 'treating' those things.
Therefore, for people like Cass it only makes sense that the success of transition would be judged by the ability of trans people to adhere to dominant gender norms, productivity, and overall normallity, as opposed to things unrelated to understandings of what "the ideal citizen" is. Y'know, things like happiness, joy, the ability to feel like oneself, etc.
One last point, and this is partially speculation on my part: But I think this is why the fact that trans people face discrimination that makes things like remaining employed and being in healthy relationships much more difficult is ignored by people like Cass. These forms of discrimination are seen as the result of the individuals failure to properly perform and embody "normality". Transphobia is therefore not percived as the fault of a patriarchal cisheteronormative society and culture, but instead a failure of the trans individual and the practice of medical transition.
If it wasn't clear, I think Dr Cass is a hack and that the discourses that inform her positions on trans health issues are not only incorrect, but also act to perpetuate bigotry and social inequality. Fuck Dr Cass, Trans Liberation Now.

TMAGP 14 Thoughts: Shedding Light
This was a pretty light one all in all. Which isn't too surprising given how short this episode was. Not a whole lot to dig into here which is probably for the best given the last few. However for the nerds into the numbers a couple of very interesting things did come from this one.
Spoilers for episode 14 below the cut.
Choco Leibnitz. Still incorrect. I think this is intentional and a Mandela effect thing. It's nice to see Celia and Alice talk and it's extra nice to see Celia not taking her shit. She's obviously jealous as hell and she's really the sort to make that someone's problem IMO. Not that I have anything against Alice or that I think she's evil. But she does have her flaws. It's also interesting to see how she's consistently digging for info and being generally fairly duplicitous about it. She didn't ask Alice if she had any thoughts on why but did lead her to offer her own. It obviously wasn't effective but it's a habit of Celia's to hide behind things like that. Such as mentioning she has a kid to obfuscate that she's got other secrets. Say something that is very clearly a big deal to drop on a first date and people aren't likely to think you're hiding further secrets. But if Freddy knows, we know. Celia thinking she was actually maybe kinda flirting for real was very cute though.
For the incident I've got nothing much to say. I don't like being too negative in these things but I have very little to say otherwise. I really liked the format of it but it was too short to really build it up effectively. There wasn't a lot to sink your teeth into here or enough of it to slowly build any real dread. I also thought this was a rare miss from Jonny on the performance. It didn't do a whole lot for me, unfortunately. I think there was a lot more to the concept than got explored and the transformation aspect is a bit out of nowhere. The mention of an institute is obviously an important detail here but I'll get to that in a bit.
I really would've liked to see more of Gwen and Sam talking about filing these things. I get why Gwen is so touchy and exasperated about it but it's still interesting to get into. It's also not the first time Sam gets given a classification that he later disagrees with in the filing. Hard to say if that means something but coming from Gwen it seems a bigger marker that Sam is incorrect than it does when it was Alice.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Incident/CAT#R#DPHW Master Sheet
Klaus Watch: Starting off we a new section that'll only be here when it's relevant. For those not in the know the old IT Manager at the OIAR, Klaus, has an excel spreadsheet named after him. This was found during the ARG and its a semi-corrupted list of OIAR incidents with CAT#R#DPHWs assigned. Along with some dates and some additional notes. The original German and a translated English copy is in the above link. Not every incident matches but he episode sheet links to it when they do.
CAT1RB4426 is a match. There isn't a date so just that alone is what I'd call a partial match. There isn't a guarantee those strings are unique after all. However it's one of the few with an accompanying note, "Mag". These notes are in German and "mag" is a German word but what it means is "like" or "to like". Which in context makes a lot less sense than the other notes tend to. Given the mention of an institute in the incident it seems pretty likely that "Mag" is short of "Magnus" and as such is a specific detail about the case. As was the note of "tinte" (ink) on Daria's incident.
DPHW Theory: 4426 seems pretty reasonable.
CAT# Theory: CAT1 is interesting in that it's another crack in the Person/Place/Object theory. This one was no more about people than any of the other transformations were and neither of those are CAT1's. But that whole theory already involves ignoring some things and assuming some other bits to make it work.
R# Theory: Another B for a thing I'd say is a B. Really very little to get into on these until something either doesn't fit or we get some significant new information.
Header talk: Transformation (Snake) -/- Horde is what Sam ended up going with on this. Rather than Snakes (Horde) -/- Infection as suggested by Gwen. Not the first time he's done that and one of these days I hope we'll get a misfile report. Clarification on what is or isn't junk data would be lovely.

for the choose violence ask game: 8 or 12 for dunmeshi 👀
ehehehehehe
8. common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about i had to think abt this one for a while but i think it's the popular fan theory that laios is actually still his chimera post-canon but just transformed into laios.... i am all for letting people have fun and having whatever hcs they want but this in particular bothers me bc it's so antithetical to the ending and to the manga + laios as a character in general, like the point is that he's a human no matter what!!! he must embrace this fact and accept his humanity in order to defeat the demon + bring back falin, so this theory is just like. cool factor is real but it is Incorrect in my brain
12. the unpopular character that you actually like and why more people should like them officially coming out as a toshiro defender bc however bad you think he is, in a manga filled with morally dubious characters who do many different positive and negative things, he isnt even in the top 10 worst people ngl. note that i mean "worst" in the lightest way possible bc dunmeshi as a series is very involved in the idea of nuance and that no one is truly good Or bad, but yk. toshiro's greatest crime was blowing up at laios after a while of holding in his true feelings, and like, yeah, it's shitty! but it's also explicitly stated to be a two-way issue where laios was also completely oblivious to toshiro's signals (also to everyone who reduces laios's microaggressions bc he didn't mean them in a racist way---don't even start) and the crux of the thing is that they Both Forgive Each Other. yeah laios holds a lot of hurt about it afterward, which is reasonable! it really really sucks to know that someone you thought liked you didn't and in such an explosive way. but its important that the story also frames it as necessary for toshiro to have vented these feelings in order for them to fully reconcile and continue forward as friends.
on the other hand. it's truly revolutionary that toshiro has become the first man to be ignored in favor of yuri but also the way his attraction to falin is described is just. both completely off-base and racist to boot i don't even want to deal w it. there are more reasons why people hate him but this is getting long enough as it is djnkfdgjbnfg
as for reasons why more people should like him. he's handsome and stoic but easily flustered, implied to be a bug enjoyer, the little drawing of him picking up shells on the beach while thinking about falin kills me.... i just think he's neat!!
#answered asks#sorry for the toshiro rant#i just think he deserves better#not going into the 'he owns slaves' debate#or the entire izutsumi debate#bc that edges more into 'is that really him or his dad' territory#but in other news. toshiro should get to kill his dad#chattering#dunmeshi spoilers#dungeon meshi spoilers

Expanding on my last post about Thrash's concept from the TFB.

While I was looking through his concept, I came across the words “Pure ID.”
..What does this mean?
It could mean two things.
1, His sense of ID is pure.
Or 2, He’s purely driven by ID.
Today I'm going to be focusing on the second option cause I wanna and it's the coolest
Okay, so let's take a step back. Thrash driven purely by ID. What is ID?
“The ID is the primitive, impulsive part of our psyche driven by instincts and desires.” So if you’re hungry, your ID will tell you to eat. If you want something, your ID will tell you to get it.
How does this fit into real people? There are generally 3 parts of your personality: ID, Ego, and Superego.
The ID is the impulse to have or do something (ID = Remember, Impulsivity driven by pleasure) while the superego is basically your conscience. (Superego = the morals you’ve learned from parents and teachers) The ego takes your instincts from your ID and the morals/information from your superego and finds a way to fit them together so you can get what you want without being morally incorrect (*depending on what your morals are. Most of our morals come from the oldest people closest to us though)
So to be driven purely by ID, purely by instincts and desire, would be really interesting. Imagine a Thrash who would put all morals aside to get what he wants. That's sick asf. (Even if technically he wouldn't have morals to begin with.)
He isn’t like this in the show of course, his morals are very present, like when he defends Mo from Swindle and has conflicting feelings between what he wants and what's right, like when he doubts breaking into the farmer's field. And he just loves his family unconditionally. So not Pure ID in the final show.
But in the TFB all of the terrans are given a defining ‘trait’
(This also leads to my combiner theory but I'll share that another day :3)
Thrash is described as Impulse. That's exactly what ID is, your impulsive thoughts and urges. This is why I think he's driven purely by ID instead of having a pure ID. It also says before the ID statement that he could care less how others see him, sooo... ya
The ID is, by definition, both completely disorganized and completely unconscious: no one is capable of intentionally acting on pure Id. The Id has no judgments of anything; there is no good or evil and no sense of morality at all. Again I think this would be awesome to see in a character.
It's interesting that Transformers would base a character off of Freud's theory of ID, Ego, and Superego in the first place though. A creative choice definetly, and Freud's theory itself is a good introduction to psychology but by no means explains personality and human psychology as a whole. It would be impossible to put the human mind in 3 categories, it's just too complex.
But Freud is also the same guy who said everyone was attracted to their mothers just because he had an incest problem, so yeah. Do what you will with that information.
Lmk if you want to read more on the topic of Thrash and ID, because I'd be happy to write more.

neat paper!
The question addressed in this paper springs from the following observation. In his 1918 theory Weyl introduced local gauge transformations (transformations that depend on arbitrary functions of space and time), and it is local gauge symmetry that he connects with conservation of electric charge. According to the standard modern account, however, global gauge symmetry is invoked to deliver conservation of electric charge (see, for example, Leader and Predazzi, 1996; Ryder, 1985; Sakurai, 1964; Schweber, 1961; Sterman, 1993; Weinberg, 1995). Which is the correct symmetry to connect with charge conservation? This question might seem straightforward on the surface, but it turns out that a rather interesting story lies behind any satisfactory answer. The story involves a triangle of relationships, none of which has been adequately addressed in the literature to date. This triangle involves Weyl’s work, relativistic field theory, and Noether’s theorems.
note the "s" on "theorems": a big part of this paper is Noether's sometimes-underapprieciated second theorem, which addresses local symmetries.
particularly cute is the incorrect derivation showcased in the appendix, where we get charge conservation from Maxwell EM "for free"—except it wasn't actually free, because assuming we could apply Noether's theorems in the first place was equivalent to demanding charge conservation.

Wonderful Precure Episode 16 Review - Secrets, Stories, And Shin-Chan
I was expecting Komugi’s secret to be exposed, but I didn’t think it’d be exposed this soon. I was expecting somewhere in the Episode 20’s. Then again, given how bad Iroha and Komugi are at hiding things, it was bound to happen sooner or later.
This episode actually gives important lore about Animal Town and the legend behind its creation that revolves around the Mirror Stone. Apparently, animals wanted to talk with humans and then God, a unicorn, granted it. However, when conflict arose between different creatures, the Unicorn turned the Mirror Stone into an ordinary stone and disappeared. That’s how the story goes. There are pictures that go along with the story that mainly focuses on a wolf and a unicorn. My theory of Niko being the mysterious wolf is incorrect now that Niko is most definitely a unicorn. I just want to know what happened to the unicorn and why the wolf is wanting vengeance.
Yoko and Tsuyoshi learning about the talking animals was hilarious and surprising. It was hilarious seeing their reactions to Komugi and Mey Mey talking but I was more surprised on how well they are taking it. While Mey Mey didn’t reveal their secret about them being Precures, helping distressed animals and sending them back to Niko Garden would be a feat that would make them proud because they know Iroha is a caring and helpful person. I honestly can’t wait to see Mey Mey’s interactions with Iroha’s parents because I know it’ll be cute.
There was a collaboration with Crayon Shin-chan as Shinnosuke appeared in the middle of the episode at the dog park with Shiro. Honestly, this was pretty crazy. I used to watch a lot of Crayon Shin-chan as a kid, so it felt like my childhood came back in a way. Though, I mainly watched it in Korean, so I’m still not used to their Japanese names. But hey, my favorite character back then was Shiro the dog, and I’m glad he’s here for this episode. Also, I was a little surprised Shinnosuke wasn’t behaving all perverted around Iroha since he likes older women, but I guess Iroha is too young for his standards? It’s still crazy. I know that Precure often does collaborations like how Hirogaru Sky did a collaboration with the Peach Plane.
Maybe The Boy And The Heron has affected me in a weird way because when the bird GaruGaru was revealed to be a parakeet, I was expecting a twist that the bird was evil and getting calmed down was an act. Thanks, Miyazaki for ruining parakeets for me (I’m just kidding). I was also not expecting human Yuki to show up and the tease of her almost transforming was mean! I bet her transformation sequence will be shown in a few weeks now that Mayu wishes she could be like Iroha. That’s a flag right there.
Anyways, I really liked this episode and all the important information dump it gave. I know what to expect going forth and I can’t wait to see when everything about the story starts spiraling. What are your thoughts on this episode?

Boueibu Rewatch Part 12
Episode Seven
This episode's title is wrong on Crunchyroll. They added some of the blue bar text. (Title is "HAPPY Flutter Kicks," but they put "Let's happy kiss our way to HAPPY Flutter Kicks.")
Since this council doesn't care about the Pretty Boy Contests, who do you think is in the top 3 each month?
I like the way the heat waves were animated.
This is another monster with an incorrect name. Should be Natsukawa Atezane, but the subtitles say Natsukawa Jujitsu. (I forgot to mention, but in the first episode they put Koshigawa Wataru when it should've been Koekawa Osamu.)
Also, he says he was teased for not being able to swim...but does that ever happen on screen?
How is that guy a student?? (hairy guy in the green swimsuit)
Where is Karurusu floating? Is that like a foot wash area or something before entering the pool?
You think Tawarayama's gonna have a role in the movie?
So what would the loincloth relay entail? Like capture the flag or something?
Taishi imitating Ryouma fjdjdjshs
The council song (not while transforming, but before that), saying this again, is a bop, and I wish we had a version without everyone talking over it.
Also like how the council got a custom transformation with their swimsuits at the start (also the Defense Club).
I wonder if Karurusu didn't immediately react to the monster because he couldn't smell the sadness over the chlorine.
Also you ever think about how in Love, the monsters were really just students chosen to be turned based off of what would be good for ratings on CIDER and with VEPPer's show (like Zundar definitely sniffed at some point, but he probably had communications with the alien recording the student-to-be-turned, forget about Dadacha), whereas here Karurusu and Furanui are capable of smelling/sensing unhappiness? And they genuinely have something to prove, as opposed to just getting higher ratings?
Karurusu bonked his head on the bath wall lol
Episode Eight
So this guy has failed to graduate almost ten times. Why didn't Yumoto do anything. (Imagine the pitfall was from the OG Defense Club lol)
August 31 is a Friday according to the stamp card (they show a few different ones, but that's what it says on the one he's holding, along with a calendar shown in a different part of the episode), which lines up with my theory that HK is in 2007, so I'm gonna be really salty if the "aimed for 2015, landed in 2025" line in the trailer wasn't just dubbed over and they're saying that's the timeline. (For the record, the last time it was a Friday was 2018.)
The plane has gold sparkles... Could Kinshirou own the airline?
I love Martha's purple outfit, I'd wear it. (And custom transformations again!)
Should make a comparison of the Defense Clubs in the changing room and other locations, cause I'm pretty sure Ichiro's posed with the hair dryer just like Ryuu has been in the past.
Gotta make an AMV someday of Hot To Go and utilize the radio calisthenics for the chorus lol
Is the beach they go to Danran Beach? Gotta look at the store in the background again...
Forget if I ever did radio calisthenics in Japanese school... I've done it in Animal Crossing: New Horizons lol
Okay, so. Since Kyoutarou's wish was just an extra day of summer vacation...that just means they'd go back to school one day later... And it's been established August 31 is a Friday... That means that unless the school is in session on Saturday, they were going to have the weekend off anyway, meaning Karurusu's magic is just going to close the school on Monday lol
Episode Nine
Ichiro saying the council's gonna get on their asses sounds so out of character lol (Probably would've been better for Taishi to say that!)
This is the first instance I remember hearing of Kyoutarou referring to Karurusu as "Karu."
Has anyone ever kept track of and translated the visible sides of the dice? Like they read some of them off, but it'd be cool if we could figure out what the full set would be.
I like how Nanao says his shampoo is champagne rose scented. I feel like my mom gave Akoya a similar scent in her fics before this episode aired?
It'd be fun to put DM audio over Sai Goro's scenes. Like Brennan's Dom/Sub DM bits from Make Some Noise or something similar. Oh, Tom Cardy's song Perception Check, also! (I've had that idea for a while, with Nanao being the one messing with the campaign, and Martha being the child.)
I think everyone rolls the dice except for Nanao and Ichiro? (And Karurusu!) But it's funny that Nanao and Ichiro still ended up having to participate, with the latter having to twice.
Karurusu is so smoll next to Kyoutarou. Wish we got official heights. (And his little song is cute!)
I like how we keep seeing the monster in the background behind cosplaying students lol (Like the Waluigi ripoff alkdfjs)
Forgot how wild Ichiro and Taishi's reactions were aldksfjasd
