Okay, so, full disclosure I have only seen Top Gun 2 (I know it’s not called Top Gun 2; I apologize) BUT I wanted to say that I absolutely LOVE the different ways Tom Cruise’s characters approach Things That Can Fly.
Like, in Top Gun, Maverick (?) is, obviously, a Maverick, and very skilled at what he does, the hallmark of a genius is when they can teach it, etc. etc. Like the man sees the thing go up and just vi br a t es with the thought of Go Up!!!! I love that for him, but he also knows exactly what every button is and why he can do certain things that he does. Pretty sure you have to have some sort of masters or PhD in Air Flying Vehicles or something equally smart.
Now, with this knowledge, watching Ethan Hunt in Mission Impossible is so funny. This man has a PhD in hanging off airplanes. He stepped foot (metaphorically) into a helicopter and was only able to figure anything out because it was labeled. The entire time!! he was flying!! it was screaming at him!! and he decided to keep going through pure willpower!! It was ON FIRE!!!
Like, circumstances aside, Maverick is a Certified Pilot (tm) while Ethan Hunt is a Certified Mess (tm).
Oh to be Maverick, reading AD magazine and has a husband that will write you a blank check to buy any decor you want. Or collects expensive watches. And has the same taste. I don't know if anyone have asked this, what is your hc about their car preference? I hc that Mav likes big car because he's relatively short. And Ice likes luxury car. What do you think?
oh my god i have had this headcanon for so long thank god someone’s asking about it.
Ice will ONLY drive American-manufactured cars. like even when he travels somewhere and rents one. he will raise a stink about it.
It is a significant point of contention in their relationship & marriage that maverick is only interested in Japanese-manufactured motorcycles. Like they have had, and will continue to have, shouting matches over “why can’t you be a patriot and buy American motorcycles like harleys??!? What is with all the kawasaki and yamaha crap???” and “ice im telling you they just run better!!! the japanese just make better bikes!!!” tongue-in-cheek threats of divorce etc.
i definitely think of ice as less a luxury car and more a classic muscle car guy. back when muscle cars still were delicate and beautiful instead of hard and sharp, if that makes sense. there is a Venn diagram of luxury and muscle cars and he definitely has dabbled in the middle (see my fic’s deepthroating of the 2005 ford GT). But he won’t cross the line. (Won’t be caught dead driving a Porsche or mercedes for instance)
in the final final draft of my fic (ie the draft that will get posted before i call it quits on my top gun phase) the Dream Car is getting changed to a ‘68 Plymouth HEMI roadrunner. camaro is too mainstream i will admit. but see above for my “car preferences” hc.
kim: Anyone else feel good when their brain releases a bunch of endorphins?
porschay: Can't relate.
macau: Why would my brain release a bunch of dolphins?
No but like the fact that after I watched Top Gun (1986) I immediately started learning the theme song on electric guitar and played it at full volume every day until my whole family shouted at me to stop tells you enough about my current status of obsessiveness over it.

I like electric touch as a taylor swift song and and the lyrics are nice but I think both lyrically and production-wise it's underdeveloped. feels like the first third of a song over again, not enough patrick, if they added the rest of the band (and made it more fob) it'd carry a better sound (esp w/ joe and andy)
I'd like to know more about what made the decision for it to be a fob vs patrick collab though, I'm sure there are reasons I just don't know
They're all so adorable looking. Kara was a student at Lady Death's wizard academy (Kristen) and she wears crow stuff because her mentor was Philza but her magic is very snake focused that's why her outfit resembles both.
I wanted to specify the size difference between them but it's still hard for me to adjust the anatomy accordingly. Sparklez is just naturally small but can turn into a full dragon tho it takes a lot of energy. Pete is based on Borzoi and Wind hounds, he was mean to hunt wolves with his bare teeth and hands but he's not strong enough to to that so he started using magic.
Kara's outfit can help her appear as a winged serpent while in full serious mode
Gustav Metzger was both an artist and activist, most well known for creating the 'Auto Destructive Art' movement. This idea inspired other artists to dismantle, take apart and destroy objects in protest. Below is an example of his own disruptive work from 1961, his acid paintings. Metzger threw acid on nylon, to protest the creation of nuclear weapons.
“Self-destructive painting, sculpture, and construction is a total unity of idea, site, form, colour, method, and timing of the disintegrative process” - Gustav Metzger.
In 1966, the 'Auto Destructive Art' movement left an impression on many other artists during this period. The anti-war and anti-capitalist ideas that these artists shared helped Metzger organise the 'Destruction in Art Symposium' in London. This was a public exhibition of auto destructive art, which included John Latham's burning of 'Skoob Towers', the burning of books that depicted his burnt out view on Western culture.
The works of Metzger and Latham would find their way to Pete Townshend, guitarist of 'The Who'. Infamous for his impulsive act of guitar smashing at the end of their concerts. With the auto destructive art movement, Townshend now had a theory to justify his disruptive practice.
'How To Launch Your Guitar in 17 Steps by Pete Townshend'
“Those [guitars] I did break were broken as part of an artistic manifesto to make my role as an artist harder and more honest” - Pete Townshend.
