☀️ for the OC meme please ^^
i feel obligated to do this for phika bc i don’t make a lot of happy content for her whoops
what makes your OC genuinely happy? a person, an item, their hobby? where is the place they’re happiest, or most at home? what is the happiest they’ve ever been?
phika — she absolutely adores her pokémon. she treats them like her children and she spoils them as much as she possibly can. they work really hard and are always by her side so she tries to make them as happy and reward them for everything that they do to help her. she’ll give them sweets or buy them toys or take them out of the city to try to relax and unwind bc she knows they’re as stressed out as she is. there is no way she’d be where she is now without them and she absolutely knows it. making her pokémon happy makes her happy, and she’d move mountains for them if she needed to. they’re her babies, after all.
she’s not really sure where she’s the happiest. her apartment is kinda lonely, and being back in her childhood home makes her happy, but it also makes her feel really sad, so as much as she misses it, she doesn’t like to go back home very often. being at her father’s house feels weird too, since she hasn’t seen him in a really long time. probably the place she feels most comfortable is at bella’s apartment — she’s with someone she cares about, and knows that bella wouldn’t try to do anything to hurt her.
the happiest phika’s ever been was when she got chimchar (now infernape) from professor rowan before leaving home. the two of them clicked instantly — they were both high energy, bright eyed and ready to go out into the world. infernape’s been her most loyal companion since day one, and she doesn’t know what she would do without him. they like to go out and get ice cream together when they can.

^Belinda Qaqamba Ka-Fassie, a post-graduate student in education at Stellenbosch University, wears a dress that resembles the white blanket typically worn at a male circumcision. Her headpiece and beaded stick, both handmade, are traditionally part of a bride's ensemble. The 24-year-old designs her dresses, often choosing local fabrics. (photo by Lee-Ann Olwage)
When Belinda Qaqamba Ka-Fassie dresses in drag, she doesn't typically go for on the sequins and feather boas worn by performers on RuPaul's Drag Race. A post-graduate student of education at Stellenbosch University in Cape Town, South Africa, Ka-Fassie might put on a dress that resembles the white blanket typically worn by boys at a traditional male circumcision ritual, called ulwaluko, and she might add a multi-colored headpiece and beaded stick, both handmade and used by brides.
It's a very deliberate choice made by black drag queens from townships who are celebrating their roots and challenging dress codes for men and women through their traditional apparel. "We cannot separate our queerness from our Xhosaness," says Ka-Fassie, a drag queen and activist.
Tumblr media
^Mthulic Vee Vuma, a 21-year-old studying public management at West Coast College, wears traditional Xhosa clothing and jewelry in front of a shack in Khayelitsha. "The meaning of the clothing I am wearing is to love and accept our culture," Vuma says. Her family initially struggled to accept her as a trans woman, believing it was a curse, but she says they now give her total support. (phoo by Lee-Ann Olwage)
Yet even as they embrace their culture, township drag queens outside of Cape Town, as in other parts of the world, face grave risks. They must often suppress their queer identity in their communities for their safety — traveling into the city for pageants and parties, then de-dragging before they go home.
The limbo they live exists even in the terminology for their identity. There is no word to describe queerness in Xhosa, the indigenous language widely spoken in South Africa. The words that do exist are often insulting to the queer community, describing sexual behavior and denying queer people dignity. "When I came out to my family, I couldn't find the appropriate word in Xhosa to explain my queerness," Ka-Fassie says.
Tumblr media
^Belinda Qaqamba Ka-Fassie poses at a community space where women cook and sell meat. She started drag as an escape from oppression she felt at Stellenbosch University for being "black, Xhosa, poor, queer and effeminate." "It is through pageantry and performance that I became more inclined with my queerness and how boundless expression should be," she says. "Drag became the therapist I never had." (phoo by Lee-Ann Olwage)
#BlackDragMagic is the name of a photo project in collaboration with Ka-Fassie – a series of portraits showing how drag can be an art form in Africa that differs from mainstream aesthetics in the West.
All of the portraits were taken on a single afternoon in August, with a pickup truck serving as a makeup station and changing room. The subjects — queer, black, gender-nonconforming and trans — were photographed throughout the township of Khayelitsha, which means "new home" in Xhosa. The township is located on the Cape Flats, about 15 miles southeast of Cape Town.
Tumblr media
^Shakira Mabika, 24, emigrated to South Africa from Zimbabwe, where the former president "has referred to people like me as 'pigs' and un-African." She asked to be photographed by dilapidated shacks where pigs were kept behind a fence. "I moved to Cape Town in search for a space where I could live my truth," she says. But she says she has faced transphobia and still hasn't found a job. (photo by Lee-Ann Olwage)
The girls walked down the streets that day in a group, proudly and unapologetically. "I carry my African-ness and my queerness on my sleeve because it is who I am," says Mandisi Dolle Phika, one of the photo subjects.
Tumblr media
^Mandisi Dolle Phika, 27, asked to be photographed by a church, an important place to her family but a place where she says she has faced anti-queer bias. At Catholic school, she remembers, "I once overheard a conversation where it was said I have a 'gay-demon.'" Now studying LGBTQI political leadership, she believes in "a colorful God" that "celebrates diversity in all its manifestations." (photo by Lee-Ann Olwage)
Discrimination is a part of everyday life for queer people in the townships, especially at taxi stands, churches and schools. In the Western Cape alone, a 2016 survey of 112 LGBT participants age 16 to 24 by Love Not Hate, a national campaign addressing anti-gay hate crimes, found that about two-thirds of LGBT people between the ages of 16 to 24 reported experiencing discrimination at school. Reliable statistics are rare, because queer people in townships often choose not to report harassment or violence out of fears for their safety and distrust of local law enforcement.
Tumblr media
^ Unathi Ferguson, left, was outed by a teacher in 11th grade but eventually saw the moment as a chance to "embark on a journey to sanity and complete acceptance [about] who I was." Shakira Mabika, right, emigrated from Zimbabwe to South Africa in 2013. Olwage says the women told her they had forged "a newfound sisterhood." (photo by Lee-Ann Olwage)
Black queer people here, as in many other parts of the world, also struggle to be understood by their health care system. Some studies have found that LGBT patients have been subjected to discrimination, with health care providers refusing them care or doling out moral judgment. Long lines of people waiting for free treatment at clinics or state hospitals in impoverished areas can lead to a lack of privacy for patients. As a result, many avoid medical care or receive poor care.
But the picture doesn't have to be bleak. "Living in a township has taught me to be strong and strive. I have dealt with the stigma and hate, and now am stronger," said Liyana Arianna Madikizela, a 17-year-old who posed for photographs.
Tumblr media
^Liyana Arianna Madikizela, 17, is a drag artist from the township of Kayamandi. She poses near a string of drying clothes to challenge traditional gender roles. "I realized I was different when I didn't want to do the stereotypical manly duties," she says. "I was always keen to do house duties such as washing dishes, doing the laundry, cleaning the house and cooking." (photo by Lee-Ann Olwage)
Madikizela embodies the strength and resilience the drag queens have shown in the face of injustice and oppression. "I want to become the role model I never saw in the streets of Kayamandi," she said. "Someone who is unapologetically gender non-conforming and who navigates their lives against all the hostile odds of living in the township."
Lee-Ann Olwage is a South Africa-based photographer. Sasha Ingber is a Washington, D.C., freelance writer. Belinda Qaqamba Ka-Fassie, a drag artist and advocate, collaborated with Olwage on this project.

The first panel opens on a bakery with a line out the door. The narration says, “There’s a popular bakery in town.”
The second panel shows Phika concentrating on making a cake. The narration says, “The mage, Phika, decided to practice here for a while.”
The third panel shows an older baker busy with customers and carrying fresh bread. He yells over his shoulder at Phika to, “Don’t waste time! Get ready to bake!” Phika, with a row of pastries in front of her, yells back, “OK!” and lights a magic fire in her hand.
The fourth panel shows Phika releasing a massive fireball that consumes not only the pastries but the whole shop while the older baker’s eyes bulge out in surprise.
The fifth panel shows the bakery going up in flames while people flee. Some of them shout “Aaaaaa! Fire!” and “Help! Help!” as they run.
The fifth panel shows Phika walking off into the sunset with the smouldering ashes of the bakery behind her. The narration says, “The mage, Phika, begins her journey again...” The text under this panel says, “Friendly Reminder: Please be cautious around open flames, and make sure you have adult supervision.”

I believe this would be the bunny pie shop since in HW it’s a gathering place for rouge mages and the place starr ends up working at when he fails out of being a magical cryptid

Decolonizing Drag in South Africa
These photos by Lee-Ann Olwage are from an NPR article on  township drag queens living outside Cape Town in South Africa.

three pens three characters YEET
i’ll say right off the bat that i think they’re all angels,, questionable angels some of them but angels nonetheless
phika – phika lives in the sinnoh region in jubilife city and works for the international police and yeah it really does suck for her sometimes (a lot) bc her job gives her a lot of stress and she also thinks that she’s been cursed by darkrai (she’s got a lot of issues) so that doesn’t help much??? but she always tries her best and she loves her pokemon and her friends and her parents so much and i love her!!! i love her very much and she’s actually been a huge part of my life since i was around eight
i created her when i was eight after reading the diamond and pearl adventure! manga bc i thought the mc hareta being raised by pokemon was really cool so that’s how she started out,, except she was like tossed over a gorge outside of twinleaf down and got psychic powers because she was saved by a bunch of meditite? idk eight year old me was wild – then she was cyrus’ daughter for a long while and ran away to join the international police bc why not???
she mellowed out after a while,,, she’s still in interpol and she’s not cyrus’ daughter anymore but god if she hasn’t changed so much in the past ten years – i can literally track my progress as an artist and a writer through her and i just??? i love her so much she’s a fictional character in my head but she means the world to me and she’s helped me to get through so much and sometimes i cry over her!! because that’s just how it is sometimes.
úrsula – úrsula’s my gates to infinity hero and fat shock i love her too! gates is my favorite mystery dungeon game and she (and her partner axel) are a huge reason for that,, i loved gates and i loved the idea of having a group of pokemon with you that help you to save the world and support one another no matter what! gates is great end of discussion
more úrsula specific, she’s an oshawott/dewott (depends on a few factors) who used to live in venice before going to the pokemon world and she’s an incredible chef! she loves cooking in the cafe with swanna and making food for all of her friends,, she’s not great at expressing her gratitude through words because she feels like she doesn’t say enough so if she’s expressing gratitude or appreciation or love she’ll cook you something. she’ll find out what your favorite food is and make it for you. that’s how she rolls babey!! and her favorite flowers are sunflowers bc she thinks they’re really pretty so axel plants a bunch of them in paradise for her and she’s just like “fuck guess im going to marry you now” (they eventually do get married and its great)
she’s loyal and stubborn and she loves her friends with her whole heart and she makes me smile and i love her! i know i say that a lot but it’s true i love her very much.
bella – bella’s a pokemon trainer from kalos and she’s incredible,,, she kicks all the ass and she takes all the names and she always wears a black trench coat bc it looks cool. bella’s cool. she doesn’t put up with anyone’s shit (at least she tries not to)
she’s done a total 180 since i initially created her after playing through X version for the first time – she used to be really nice to people and she was friends with the friend/rival group in-game and sycamore but after i played through X a second time i was like “these people are not as great as i remember” so she started turning into more of a bitch (for lack of a better word) which was actually kind of a good thing? bc she had so much more character when she didn’t get along with the group and sycamore than when she did? she was bitchy and independent and blunt and from there she had so much more room to grow than she did when she was just like “oh these are my friends!!” she beat calem into the ground every time they battled so she could prove that she was better and she hates sycamore (because i hate sycamore he’s useless) and she wears!! a!! trench coat!!! 13 year old me thought that was the coolest thing so that’s like,, the one consistency she’s had for the past five years
as she gets older she mellows out some – she’s still haughty and will still assert herself whenever she can and she still thinks she’s better than some people, but she’s less in-your-face about it now. she’s a cool veteran with a trench coat and a white scarf. she knows her shit. she’s also friends with and has a little bit of a crush on but she’d never ever ever admit that phika, and will spend time with her whenever phika’s visiting kalos for work. she scolds phika a lot for not taking care of herself well enough and gets upset with her when phika hasn’t gotten a lot of sleep (and tries to make it so she can get some sleep). she worries a lot and she’s bad at expressing it in a good way so it’s usually her just getting mad – at the end of the day though, she’s genuinely worried about losing phika. bella doesn’t make a lot of friends, so she’s very protective of the ones that she already has (which isn’t many). and of course i love her very much too!! i think she’s really cool and cute and deserving of love and appreciation
christ this was really long im so sorry but thank you so much for asking!! it really does mean a ton ❤❤

Legendary 2
Guys I'm proud of myself, I managed to do all of Philkas week ;; Here we go with the second part of the PJO au from day three! Philip's Godly parent is figured out. ----- “So that's it,” Nico turns back as they finish the tour on the canoe docks, “any questions?” “So if the ‘Big Three’, Hades, Zeus, and Poseidon had that treaty to not have more kids, how are you here?” Philip asks skeptically amazed that after the tour he's actually believing this. For a moment though he sees the stony expression on Nico's face falter. “It's a long story.” Is all he offers in explanation. “Well,” Will steps forward changing the subject, “is there anything that sparks your interest or do you need a bit still?” “Honestly I would still rather go home.” Philip admits rubbing his neck, turning back to face Lukas. “The Hephaestus kids are still working on the bike. We just have to wait it out a bit longer.” Lukas reminds him. “Give us a bit?” Will nodded and reached back taking Nico's hand. Philip and Lukas watched the two walk away until they were out of earshot, bickering as they walked about something. “So I have a few questions.” “I figured you, you did.” Lukas gives stammering with nerves. “So your Mother was, wait, is Aphrodite. The Goddess of Love and Beauty?” Philip's arms cross as he watches Lukas nod. “Yet when we met you were so Homophobic?" Lukas is floundering for words he knows Philip has a point, but he also knows there's no way getting out of the corner he's been pinned into. “Come here.” He walks past Philip and sits, pulling his boyfriend down with him. “Mom left when I was six, faking her death so Dad could have his closure.” Lukas begins. “Which was when I started noticing the things, monsters, following me. Then one summer this letter shows up for Camp, typically they send a Satyr, but there was no way they'd get that past my Dad. So I got a letter. I came here for one summer.” “Why didn't you come back, if it's really as dangerous as they say for us out there?” “I got into Motocross and for some reasons monsters stopped coming out to Tivoli, I think they figured it was to far past camp for them to care.” “Okay that still doesn't explain why it took you so long to just be chill about us.” Philip points out as Lukas takes his hand. “Three summers after I found out who Mom was, she came to visit me while I was out riding. She told me, I was going to fall in love for someone that would defend me with their last breath. She couldn't tell me who, just that our love would be intertwined as hers and his Father's---” “She told you, Aphrodite told you it was going to be a guy you fell in love with?” “Y-yeah, she told me and at first I didn't care, but I told Dad and when I told him…” Lukas bites his lip and Philip makes the noise of understanding. “He kept telling me how wrong it was an just…I, I stared to Believe him that it was." “What about now? Do you, do you love me, does your stomach hurt?” Philip asks and Lukas smiles laughing. “Of course I do and no, you’re more of a pain in the ass than my stomach.” Lukas’s arms wrap around Philip and pulls him close. “I'll admit, I was scared that since I didn't know you were a Demigod, I was scared of falling for you and the thought of us not working out.” “Well,” Philip shrugs, “apparently I am.” He lays back across the paneling of the docks. “So how do I figure out which God is my Dad?” “They have to claim you, their symbol will appear above you.” Lukas tells him. “Come on, we should head back.” He offers his hand and pulls Philip up. Quickly leaning in to steal a soft peck on his lips. They're heading back hand in hand when a smaller kid, with a tool belt that must weigh nearly as much as him stops them. “Hey, you Lukas? I'm Harley.” He asks before pausing to introduce himself as one of the mechanical God’s kids. Lukas nods and of course asks about his bike. “Yeah, we're almost done, thing is we have to remake one part and that's gonna put us a bit behind in it.” “How much longer?” Philip asks and Lukas shushes him wrapping an arm around his shoulders. “Least till tomorrow morning, I mean we have Nyssa our best at auto part reconstructor forging it. She just needs her time.” “Well thanks,” Lukas sighs, “come on, we can use the phone in the Big house to call Helen. Tell her we ran into some old friends of mine that want us to stay and hang out.” ---- "Yeah I'll text you if anything changes Helen." Philip replies into the phone. "Lukas? He already told his Dad, he's cool with it too. Bye." After the call Philip steps back out from the kitchen and into the living room . “So now what?” “Might I suggest taking Philip to the training grounds.” Chiron offers. “I think it would be wise for us to have Philip try and pick up a little sword play before we send you off.” “I-I don’t, I don’t play with swords.” “You sure you don’t?” Lukas snickers behind Philip. “He has a point though,” He says quickly before Philip can react to his previous statement, “Just a bit of hacking and slashing. I think you can manage that.” Philip sighs, but gestures for Lukas to lead the way. When they reach the small arena, Nico is in the center of the right running drills alone, Will is seated off to one side, a scroll draped over his knees. “Hey,” Apollo's son beams, “you guys alright?” “Yeah, Chiron said he wanted me to come try sword fighting.” Philip gives, Nico's noticed them now and joins the group. Will nods after eyeing Philip up for a moment and walks over to the rack of swords. “This one feel okay?” Will asks. “I'm a little bad at sizing and such with swords, healer not a fighter, but I have to make sure my siblings get the right sizes for their classes. I'm a lot better at sizing bows, but they don't seem your style.” “Naw,” Lukas smirks, “he's better off shooting with a camera than anything else. I've seen him try.” “This ones fine, I'll make it work.” Philip answers his face tinted with blush and Nico nods. “First things first,” Nico begins explaining the basics and showing Philip how to grip the sword, the correct stance, and then a basic swing. Will and Lukas watch from the sidelines as Philip seems to struggle with the motions. “Any ideas on a parent yet?” Will asks. Lukas squats down next to Will as he pulls the scroll back into his lap. They watch Philip’s sloppy attempts at strikes. “No, he never felt or seemed like one of us.” “Are you really the best judge of that though?” Will asks. “I mean you haven't been around other Demigods much.” The Healer explains. “I...I do have a theory though. I don't like it and I know he wouldn't either.” Will cocks his head a bit at Lukas studying him quizzically. “Mom told me that I would be in love with someone who's father she was entwined with.” Lukas looks back up Nico and Philip were facing off. He could see the frustration in Philip's eyes, but he also saw something else. “Shit.” Will looked up and began watching in awe, Nico clearly had the upper hand, he was pushing Philip back swing for swing. “Wait a minute.” Will gasped. He watched Philip's movements as they changed, beginning to mirror Nico's exactly. “How is he doing that?” They'd swing and the metal would clash. Nico began looking a little surprised himself. They jumped apart in synch. “His eyes…” Lukas whispered. Philip's eyes had a soft red glow to them. He wasn't letting up and became more aggressive, using Nico's moved against him. Nico jumped back and raised his hand, a skeleton emerged with a shield, blocking the other teen. Philip did the same, only to no effect. Above Philip there was red glowing symbol of a crossed sword and spear with a helmet over their crossing points. “Ares, his Father is Ares.” ------ So yeah, I went with ares cause if I continue this on I have a few ideas ✨✨
