Thistles on Phyllis Friday
When thinking about my wedding bouquet, I always knew I wanted thistles in it. Not because I'm a particularly prickly person - but simply because I love them. They remind me of Scotland, the place of my dreams. And they display the beauty of the unusual.
People told me it was unusual to put thistles in wedding bouquets. I insisted. And upon closer inspection, after my wedding, I realised that I had followed the example of our darling Elsie. I'm so glad I stuck with my thistles after all.

‘Babar’ Heir And Author Laurent De Brunhoff Dies At Age 98
‘Babar’ Heir And Author Laurent De Brunhoff Dies At Age 98
“Babar” author Laurent de Brunhoff, who revived his father’s popular picture book series about an elephant-king and presided over its rise to a global, multimedia franchise, has died. He was 98.
De Brunhoff, a Paris native who moved to the U.S. in the 1980s, died Friday at his home in Key West, Florida, after being in hospice care for two weeks, according to his widow, Phyllis Rose.
De Brunhoff was the eldest of three sons born to Jean de Brunhoff and Cecile de Brunhoff, a painter. Babar was created when Cecile de Brunhoff, the namesake for the elephant’s kingdom and Babar’s wife, improvised a story for her kids.
“My mother started to tell us a story to distract us,” de Brunhoff told National Geographic in 2014. “We loved it, and the next day we ran to our father’s study, which was in the corner of the garden, to tell him about it. He was very amused and started to draw. And that was how the story of Babar was born. My mother called him Bebe elephant (French for baby). It was my father who changed the name to Babar. But the first pages of the first book, with the elephant killed by a hunter and the escape to the city, was her story.”

Fanzine Friday #29: Mythellany (1981-1984) by the Mythopoeic Society
From the editor, Gary Myers:
This is Mythellaney [sic], a magazine for fun and for fantasy. Mythellaney is concocted by people like you who love reading about beasts, armor, princes, and then, (hopefully) writing about them. The magazine is not very large at present. Our goal is to grow to include not only stories by our readers, but also top professional talent. To help increase our circulation, a $25 dollar gift certificate from Dragon's Hoard Bookstore will go to the reader giving us the most paid subscriptions for our next issue (see details below).
I and those who have worked with me on this issue hope you will find a laugh and a dream or two in it. There are cartoons, a crossword puzzle, and several stories we think you will enjoy. One is written by Phyllis A. Karr and those of us who enjoyed Robin and Queen Deraniel will be glad to meet them again in the Transalt Amulet on page 4. Ed Egan's tale I will let you discover for yourself on page 10.
Fantasy is an arena for adventure, for a revel in ideals of courage and loyalty. In it we are free to explore the very hearts of things. Our modern world exacts a dreadful toll on the body, mind, and spirit. (Smog destroys the first, TV the second, and materialism the last. ) Fantasy is a refuge and a reaffirmation that man is more than the sum of his parts; he has a place in creation and a purpose in living.
This magazine was created by those who believe in all the good things made possible by other worlds and other times -- a new loving, a new laughing, a new hope. As one of our writer's observes: "Come share the experience.
The Browne Popular Culture Library (BPCL), founded in 1969, is the most comprehensive archive of its kind in the United States. Our focus and mission is to acquire and preserve research materials on American Popular Culture (post 1876) for curricular and research use. Visit our website at https://www.bgsu.edu/library/pcl.html.

The 267th Annual Banquet in celebration of St. Andrew’s Day was held on Friday, November 17, 2023. New York’s original Scottish evening celebrated the best of Scotland with honored guests from far and wide.
The presentation of the Mark Twain Award, fondly referred to as the “Sammy,” was made to our Honoree, internationally acclaimed actor, Phyllis Logan.

More questions and answers from Riley Farmer, the editor of the G5 My Little Pony comics, on Twitter! Note that she has stated that she will not be answering more questions until "maybe next Friday".
Part 1 of this post
The main G5 My Little Pony comic series "will last 5ever probably". There will be more One-Shots and miniseries after Camp Bighoof, which will conclude in December.
She is not at liberty to discuss the future of Make Your Mark.
Misty will be debuting in the comics soon! "I just want to see her exploring her freedom and powers. I'm curious to see how she'll change, and if she remains awkward and shy."
There are plans for characters like Alphabittle, Sprout and Phyllis to appear more often, and "they'll all probably show up eventually". (Alphabittle has yet to appear in the comics.)
"I wish Zipp was less suspicious [of Misty]! I'm excited to see them grow as friends."
In her opinion, the wackiest or weirdest MLP crossover would involve "something super dark". "Like, imagine the Dark Knight meeting Fluttershy. But then again, Adam West Batman and Pinkie Pie would be fun… I think Star Wars would be a difficult sell."
Her favorite ponies are Pinkie Pie, Izzy Moonbow, and Pickle Barrel (Natalie Haines's OC, not the pony from Rainbow Roadtrip).
She can't draw, so she doesn't have a favorite G5 pony to draw.
"All of my artists are remote! From all across the world."
In an artist portfolio shown to IDW, it would technically be sufficient to include storyboards and animatics as "sequential artwork", but she'd "prefer to see actual comic samples if you want to do interior art work".
