I am so, so glad I tuned into the Olympics ceremony because it was so, so needed. After over a month of the elections, fearing so much the far right would have the majority at the assemblée nationale. This ceremony does not represent the whole of France. Of course, it doesn't say anything about the hijab ban for athletes. It doesn't say anything about police violence. But it showed us what we could be. Maybe it reminded politicians we used to behead them and we could again. It showed us women who fought for their rights and against the system (Gisèle alimy !! Louise Michel !!). It showed us love can be three people in a library. It showed us love can include a non binary person!! And men wearing make up. They had a bearded drag queen live on television for the whole world to see. Piche, I love you. They had many other drag queens!! The main characters were masked and genderless. Running around Paris on the roofs with a torch. Or riding the Seine on a silver horse. (and their hood felt reminiscent of hijab to me? Like. Yeah you can have people not show their face and still care about them)
The president looked so bored. And good for him. I'm glad he had to suffer for over three hours without anything else to do. And not even see the whole ceremony.
Also somehow the rain felt very fitting. Against the elements, the left will prevail!

Marca:
An enormous controversy has been unleashed on social networks after in the middle of the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games a group of 'drag queens' made a parody of the iconic image of 'The Last Supper' and comments of all kinds were made. They were met by very important people in France and the world. Two men joining their lips, 'drag queens' recreating a Last Supper, a transgender model, that was what it was at the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, that included references to the LGBTQ+ community, which upset part of the French extreme right. During the inauguration of the 2024 Olympic Games there were several moments in which people from the LGBEQ+ community were protagonists with the organization's intention to show diversity and inclusion in the most important sporting event on the planet.
[...]
The controversy that emerged continued
However, in a final image, a group of people 'recreated' 'The Last Supper' by Leonardo da Vinci and this generated a lot of annoyance on the part of thousands of people around the world as it was one of the most iconic moments of Jesus Christ. The most striking moment was an artistic painting titled "Festivity" that began with the image of a group sitting at a table, in which were several famous 'drag queens' (Nicky Doll, Paloma or Piche, the latter recognizable by its blonde beard). The staging made one think of the last supper of Jesus Christ with his apostles.
A group of drag queen performers made a parody of The Last Supper during the opening ceremonies of the 2024 Paris Olympics, and that has right-wing entitled Karens and Kens clutching their pearls to spew out anti-LGBTQ+ and anti-drag venom.
Their faux outrage over the performance is just another chapter of the right's anti-drag and anti-LGBTQ+ moral crusades.

Drag Race France queens joined Olympics opening ceremony
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/drag-race-france-queens-joined-olympics-opening-ceremony/
Drag Race France queens joined Olympics opening ceremony
Tumblr media
A group of queens from Drag Race France have helped save the hours-long Paris Olympic Games opening ceremony early this morning (AEST).
Instead of a stadium entrance, the Olympic athletes floated slowly on boats along the River Seine, unfortunately in pouring rain.
But what we’re really here for is the performances, bookended by superstars Lady Gaga and Celine Dion, that took over central Paris’ bridges, buildings and boulevards.
Bringing the all-important drag representation to the ceremony was Nicky Doll, the RuPaul’s Drag Race alum and host of one of the best international spinoffs, Drag Race France.
Nicky hosted a fashion runway segment on a floating barge alongside Drag Race France season 1 winner Paloma, season 3 queen Piche, and Legendary star Giselle Palmer.
The queens first judged a group of models before the queens walked it out themselves, with Nicky performing a number.
Category is Parisian runway realness!

Lady Gaga and Celine Dion headline Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony
Earlier, Lady Gaga opened the ceremony with a French-language performance of Renée Jeanmaire’s Mon Truc en Plume.
On Instagram, Gaga explained the performance and said she was “so grateful” to have gotten the gig.
“I am also humbled to be asked by the Olympics organizing committee to sing such a special French song — a song to honor the French people and their tremendous history of art, music, and theatre,” she wrote.

A post shared by Lady Gaga (@ladygaga)
But it was Celine Dion who gave everyone goosebumps with an incredible comeback performance.
The singer made the hours-long slog through the Opening Ceremony worth it by belting out Édith Piaf’s Hymne A L’Amour (Hymn to Love). She sang the song live from the bottom of the Eiffel Tower.
Celine’s performance was so special because it was her first live gig since her devastating 2022 stiff-person syndrome diagnosis.
As recently as earlier this year, Celine had said she wasn’t sure if she would ever perform again. She opened up about her struggle with the condition in her Prime Video documentary, I Am: Céline Dion, released last month.

‼️DRAG RACE FRANCE SEASON 3 SPOILERS‼️
Just caught up with drag race france s3 and.. CHOICES
Le Filip was robbed all season and the editing made it seem like the judges didn't vibe with her at all when imo she should've won the rusical, she could've won the ball (but i think Misty was also robbed on that episode), and she should've been high for the makeover and not btm3! + i also thought the phone twist was a terrible idea especially on the semi-final. They should've just had the episode be the roast, given the win to Le Filip, and moved tf on!
Even though Le Filip was my favourite all season (alongside Norma Belle), i was on-board with Ruby on the Nail winning the crown because it made sense. She had an underdog storyline in which she clawed her way from a terrible track record in the first half of the season to the frontrunner in the second half. She had a GREAT snatch game (i'm not even french but i still enjoyed her performance and i laughed a lot even when i didn't understand the references). She's funny, had great runways, and is an amazing lipsyncer, essentially an all-rounder.
Come the finale, I think Ruby and Le Filip had the best solo performances of the night (despite half the fandom disagreeing) so them being top 2 made sense to me and even though i still felt bad for Lula, Le Filip just has this energy about her that is so charismatic and loveable that you can't help but root for her. The lipsync for the crown was honestly just alright. I don't think either queen did unquestionably better than the other but i'm at peace with that.
But i just don't understand why they would crown Le Filip when they paid her dust all season? It's not a satisfying storyline when the winner of the season didn't get the flowers they deserved during challenges and was only recognized at the tail-end of the season. It's so out-of-left-field to me. It shouldn't have been difficult to create a winner storyline for Le Filip especially when she was doing so well all season long and she's revered in france's drag scene.
I think the only logical explanation for this flub was that production failed at identifying Le Filip as THE season's fan favourite before it was too late and they didn't expect this level of fan support for her (which i cannot fathom how they couldn't see that, she's so charming). DRF's production also dropped the ball with Magnetica, Norma Belle, and Piche so it seems like they actually need to get better at recognizing potential fan favourites.
Regardless! I'm so happy for Le Filip, she's still a great winner despite production doing her dirty with the edit, and I'm excited for her reign! Despite a mediocre season, the queens still showed out and worked hard to entertain us with great drag and great artistry and for that i am always grateful 🙇‍♀️

24th september 2023 : Today was my first day of periods - I'll let you imagine me going out of my flat and feeling the cramps. I had a pause before sighing lol. I felt anxious 'cause I was on the campus alone, I wanted to study at my uni library ; it got better when I saw my best (?) friend - we know each other for 10 years and shit happened between us, so I'm still confused on how I should call her. I also felt out of space and not connected to my emotions.
I got around a few stuff during the afternoon but did not stay too long, and spent the rest of my day doing nothing lol.
one unit of portuguese on duolingo.
plan the money transfert to my landlady.
make flashcards for psychometrics and clinical psycho.
read articles for the research paper (it was boring ngl).

Drag queen Piche: the issue isnt to represent the last supper the issue for them is that it was depicted by queers via /r/atheism
Drag queen Piche: « the issue isn’t to represent the last supper, the issue for them is that it was depicted by queers » https://x.com/BFMTV/status/1817402211434983571 « The issue is not having taken the Last Supper; the problem [for the conservatives shocked by the representation] is that it is depicted by queers. It's a scene that has been used countless times in pop culture for decades without causing any problems. What bothers them is that it's queers who did it this time. » Small post to stop the spread of misinformation in this sub. The very people who designed the ceremony (Thomas Jolly) and who took part in it (drag queen Piche) confirmed multiple times in the last 24hours that it was a last supper parody. Stop spreading misinformation u/kind_newspaper_1908 What baffles me with the insane take to deny that it was a last supper reference is that it basically means you agree with christian bigots, as it is a way of saying « if it was a last supper reference it would be shocking so i stand and deny the obvious truth by saying it wasnt » We are fucking french, it was a last supper representation depicted by queers, SO WHAT? It has been depicted before, why would it be inacceptable because queers did it ? If you’re shocked by it, it’s a you problem, why would queers be forbidden of representing a famous painting ? ‘Last Supper’ tableau draws criticism
Tumblr media
2024 PARIS SUMMER OLYMPICS
Drag queens took center stage as opening highlighted inclusivity
PARIS — In an unprecedented display of inclusivity, drag queens took center stage at the Paris Olympics opening ceremony, showcasing the vibrant and influential role of the French LGBTQ community — while also attracting criticism over a tableau reminiscent of “The Last Supper.”
Held along the Seine River, the spectacular four-hour event featured global stars such as Celine Dion and Lady Gaga, both considered queer icons.
The ceremony blended historic and modern French culture with a touch of kitsch, culminating in a flotilla of barges carrying thousands of Olympians.
Nicky Doll, known for competing on the 12th season of RuPaul’s Drag Race and hosting Drag Race France , participated in a high-octane fashion runway segment along with Drag Race France Season 1 winner Paloma, Season 3’s Piche, and Giselle Palmer.
Initially, they stood alongside the runway, gazing fiercely at the strutting models.
Later, they joined in, showcasing their own style.
Tumblr media
Le Filip, the recent winner of Drag Race France , expressed their positive “surprise” and “pride” at the ceremony’s scale and representation.
“I thought it would be a five-minute drag event with queer representation. I was amazed. It started with Lady Gaga, then we had drag queens, a huge rave, and a fire in the sky,” they said. “It felt like a crowning all over again. I am proud to see my friends and queer people on the world stage.”
Online backlash
Among their bold performances was a scene that seemed to evoke Leonardo da Vinci’s “The Last Supper,” featuring the drag queens and other performers in a configuration reminiscent of Jesus Christ and his apostles.
This segment drew significant attention — and mixed reactions.
“The [French] government knows what it’s doing. They want to show themselves in the best way possible. They showed no restraints in expression,” Le Filip told The Associated Press.
On the other hand, prominent far-right politician Marion Maréchal denounced the performance on social media.
“To all the Christians of the world who are watching the Paris 2024 ceremony and felt insulted by this drag queen parody of the Last Supper, know that it is not France that is speaking but a left-wing minority ready for any provocation,” she posted on the social platform X, a sentiment that was echoed by religious conservatives internationally.
Tumblr media
“… because decapitating Habsburgs and ridiculising central Christian events are really the FIRST two things that spring to mind when you think of #OlympicGames,” Eduard Habsburg, Hungary’s ambassador to the Vatican, posted on X, also referencing a scene depicting the beheading of Marie Antoinette.
Thomas Jolly, the artistic director of the opening ceremony, afterward drew attention away from “The Last Supper” references, saying that hadn’t been his intention.
Le Filip responded to the criticism of the scene with a touch of humor and sorrow.
“It feels like the words of somebody who didn’t get on the guest list. We could all be laughing together. It’s sad to me, honestly,” they said.
French LGBTQ culture
Tumblr media
Inter-LGBT President James Leperlier was more circumspect, arguing that France still has significant strides to make in inclusivity.
Tumblr media
“We know in the LGBTQ community in France we are far from what the ceremony showed. There’s much progress to do in society regarding transgender people. It’s terrible that to legally change their identity they are forced to be on trial,” Leperlier said.
He also highlighted the disparity in acceptance, saying that the community is not visible in other official ceremonies and “has difficulty being heard.”
“If you saw the opening ceremony last night you’d think it was like that normally, but it’s not. France tried to show what it should be and not what it is,” he said.
The opening ceremony came as drag and the voguing nightclub scene in France has experienced a revival.
Tumblr media
The cabaret club Madame Arthur, founded in 1946 in the ashes of World War II, is one of the world’s oldest continually running LGBTQ theaters.
It opened as Europe was only just beginning to understand the extent of the widespread murder of members of the queer community in WWII and is currently experiencing a massive renaissance.
Drag is not just a pastime; for many minority French communities who feel alienated over tensions arising from divisive politics and scars from the anti-gay marriage protests a decade ago, it’s a statement of defiance.
Many gay Black and Arab youths — especially those from Paris’ less affluent and religiously conservative suburbs — and others who feel a sense of disconnect with French society find voguing and drag events safe places where their identities can be expressed without fear of reprisal.
Despite the backlash, Le Filip believes the opening ceremony will ultimately transcend controversy.
“The message of the show is freedom, and it’s a good postcard for France,” they concluded.

2017 IPF Trailer YouTube Round up
The IPF trailers are finally out which means that we get our best look at some of the (hopefully) upcoming web series in 2017 and beyond. IPF is a funding agency for Canadian digital productions and requires applicants to provide a trailer for their proposed projects. Not only is this a great chance to peak at where the Canadian industry is heading but it also means that us fans get a ton of new content to eagerly anticipate. As your resident Canadian grant writer and business affairs human, trust me when I say that these trailers can make or break the stage 1 portion of an application.
So make sure you like and watch your favourites!
The IWCC-CIWC has done the hard work for me of compiling a list of IPF trailers which you can view here. So thanks to them!
With 66 videos on the list, there’s a lot of content to go through and we’re going to help you out with managing them. I’m going in blind to watch all the trailers once and then, as succinctly as possible, let you know what I think the upcoming web series is going to be about. Trailer only. No youtube descriptions or press or anything. Trailer only.
That’s right. I’m writing premises. What could possible go wrong?
Everything. Succinct is hard when the shows are this great.
