Clinical Pilates in Melbourne: Enhance Your Body Posture and Elevate Your Health
Physiotherapy-adjusted sessions used in clinical Pilates in Melbourne elevate the well-known workout to a new level by meeting your demands. With good reason, this exercise method has recently become more well-known all around the world. Pilates was created as a safe, easy-to-follow form of clinical exercise that can be performed by anyone. This includes those who are healing from an injury, expecting mothers, those with chronic joint pain, and those who are interested in strengthening their core and spine.

Top Guide to Melbourne's Best Reformer Pilates Class
From novices to elite athletes, pilates reformer in Melbourne is appropriate for people of all fitness levels. With the reformer machine's resistance and support, it is able to modify the workout's intensity to suit each person's capabilities and objectives. Pilates on a reformer offers a variety of advantages and is a great way to tone your muscles.
A Pilates test challenges the muscles and increases strength and flexibility by applying spring-loaded resistance. The reformer machine’s-controlled motions and resistance can give a full-body exercise while helping to target particular muscle regions. Consistent practice can lead to stronger, more toned muscles and better posture.
Explore the Various Pilates Advantages for You
You might find the evidence on Pilates' health advantages to be more perplexing than useful if you investigate further. On the one hand, extensive research has been done on its health advantages for a variety of persons and medical conditions.
• Relieving pain: Bar claims that Pilates has both therapeutic and preventative advantages. You could manage a persistent musculoskeletal condition or recover from a prior injury with the practice.
• Core toughness: The fact that Pilates focuses primarily on developing core strength is one of the reasons it's such a great workout. Bar argues that the core of the body goes well beyond what most people think of as its location in the abdomen.
• Equilibrium and coordination: Once more, our core truly is what it says it is: our centre. Weakness or alignment issues make it more difficult for us to locate our centre of gravity, which increases our risk of getting hurt, especially when we're trying to coordinate several actions at once.

Wellness: Through & Through | Part Two: Pilates
If you subscribe to me, you’d know I posted a video on my channel not very long ago about my experience trying pilates for two months. It’s now been four months, and I can fully say that I am a member of the pilates cult that seems to be taking girl social media by storm.
I remember the first time I really began to see the rise in popularity of reformer, and it was just after an article where Lori Harvey said she loved pilates. After that, pilates was everywhere, and I really mean everywhere.
On TikTok, Instagram, Facebook even, my colleagues in the office were talking about how they were thinking of trying it, and my friends were signing up to expensive studios around Melbourne to get into the newest fad of fitness.
I say fad very loosely, because once I began classes at my local studio, I realised this trend was very quickly going to become a habit for me.
I’ll be honest, I was doubtful about whether pilates would do anything crazy to my body, and boy was I surprised! I had heard one of my friends talk about it previously but didn’t really think anything of it, until suddenly every second girl and their mother were achieving insane results from five 45 minute workouts a week.
I was flawed. I wish I’d listened to my friend sooner (take this as a lesson well learnt from me). So my friend and I decided to join a studio, and we got a pretty good starter deal. Pilates is quite expensive, it’s definitely not an affordable fitness method if you’re wanting to go to an actual studio, I will say that much.
Four months down the track, I can genuinely say I’ve never stuck to any fitness regime the way I have stuck to pilates, and I have never felt better. In the first two months of going to pilates consistently, I dropped FOUR KILOGRAMS without trying.
A disclaimer to this is that I never started this wellness adventure to lose weight - I don’t hate my body or myself, and I always wanted the focus to remain on how I feel about myself and my mental wellbeing, and what ways my physical health could assist with improving those aspects of my life. That being said, I can’t ignore the obvious difference in my body since beginning pilates.
Outside that, and now that I am well into my pilates obsession, I have a few notes on the difference it has made on my body.
I feel stronger in all ways, and I’m sleeping way better. I have gotten myself into the routine of getting up early to go to the studio and take a class before my work day begins and I notice that I have so much more mental clarity and motivation throughout my day. If I don’t get up and exercise before beginning my workday I often feel lethargic and foggy in my mind. I love the feeling of finishing a class and coming out of the heated room into the fresh air - my cheeks flushed and lungs breathing in the crisp smells of the early morning, and the satisfaction I feel when I finish a really tough class. I have increased my weight usage from 2kgs being my difficult weight to 4kg. I’m just happier as a person, obviously because any exercise creates endorphins.
If you’ve been looking for a sign to try out pilates, let it be this - it is honestly the best investment I’ve ever made in my health and fitness, and it’s an inclusive environment. It’s not necessarily price effective if you want to go to a studio, but there are so many free videos on YouTube you can use too - please try it if you’re even thinking about it.
If you are joining me on this group science experiment, investigating what wellness truly means and how I am achieving it, both physically and mentally, welcome! Comment below any suggestions or trends you are seeing to do with wellness that you’re too afraid to try yourself - I will try them. Also let me know if you tried pilates because of this post or my video! I’d love to hear your feedback :)
If you want to follow along with this experiment with me on a daily basis, please follow my Instagram and TikTok accounts, I am much more active on there and will have little updates throughout the weeks that I am posting the videos.
Leave any comments down below or in my questions box, and we can chat!
Until next week, all my love,
G xx

Top 5 Yoga Studios in Melbourne City
Whether you're into sweaty Vinyasa Flow or calming Yin, there is a studio in
Melbourne city for every yoga type. So, check out our list of the best yoga studio Melbourne City town and prepare to sweat, stretch and relax.
Exposed brick walls, repurposed timber benches and blonde timber dowel detailing set the scene at this cosy studio. Its calming vibes and classes that combine yoga with dynamic fitness are the drawcards.
Clifton Hill Yoga Studio
Like the Lentil As Anything of the Melbourne yoga scene, this pay-what-you-feel studio has stayed in business for a while and offers a wide range of classes from beginner to advanced. Their unique ballet-style approach combines barre conditioning with yoga and pilates to create longer, leaner muscles.
Mother and daughter duo Susan and Clare have three light-filled studios, in Balwyn, Mitcham and Ivanhoe. Each space enchants with white bamboo floors and wallpaper mural features, and the class options are a mix of brisk flow and slower yin and restorative poses.
John is a certified Iyengar yoga teacher who has taught a broad range of students, including Richmond and St Kilda footballers, professional rugby players and ballet dancers. His Carlton South studio comfortably seats 15 and is well heated, cooled and naturally lit.
Kaya Health Clubs
KAYA, Melbourne’s first Mind and Body Health Clubs, specialises in Reformer Pilates,
Authentic Yoga and Fitness classes. With two locations in Prahran and within Emporium Melbourne, members have unlimited access to studios, a dedicated cardio and weight zone and personal trainers.
It’s less like a gym, and more like a day spa, with the scent of fresh flowers and calming essential oils filling the space. The clientele is mostly female, so dudes who want to grunt loudly as they pump iron should probably head elsewhere. A single membership gets you unlimited classes at both studios plus a swish haircut from the team at Lady Marmalade Hairdressing.
Kula Yoga
Traditionally yoga has been a group practice. It was a way for practitioners to get their alignment and postures corrected by peers. This tradition continues at Kula Yoga. The studio is a gathering place for community members and offers classes for all levels and bodies.
Humming Puppy’s mellow, coffee-blushed studio is like a home away from home. The Prahran-based studio offers a variety of classes, from yin to hot yoga to barre conditioning. The yin is gentle and restorative while the hot yoga is more dynamic. Students of all levels are welcome, though a familiarity with basic moves is recommended. Beginners should start with basics classes before progressing to Kula flow.
Gertrude Street Yoga
Both a yoga studio north Melbourne and holistic centre, this Gertrude Street mainstay has the goods to get your body in tip-top shape. Set inside one of the strip’s heritage buildings, this place screams out classy with a pair of lofty, light-bathed warehouse studios. A hefty team of instructors means there’s a class for everyone, from brisk vinyasa flow to chill-out yin sessions.
Take your practice to fun new territory at Melbourne’s home of hip hop yoga. Here, reggae and folk music replaces the usual silence for energising beats and uplifting sessions. The space is also home to two awe-inspiring murals of Biggie Smalls. This is definitely a must-visit.
The Light Practice
At this South Yarra hot yoga studio, you can choose from power or slow flow classes that are heated to two balmy temperatures. The classes are designed to stretch and strengthen muscles while reducing stress and detoxifying the body.
Harrison Interiors designed this cavernous space to awaken the senses and cultivate a sense of grounded-ness. Interlaced steel arcs and black and clear reeded glass accentuate the existing factory trusses, and light-filled nooks activate the senses.
This Melbourne yoga studio offers a unique twist on traditional meditation practices. In addition to traditional vinyasa-style yoga, The Light Practice runs sound journey classes that use the vibration of gongs to re-align the nervous system and promote healing.
One Hot Yoga
The brainchild of yogi Lucinda Mills and architect Rob Mills, One Hot Yoga is bringing meaning to movement with their contemporary studio spaces in Melbourne and Sydney. The slick spaces feature recycled materials, an advanced heating system and signature scents to help you feel your best during class.
The studio uses hydronics to heat their practice space, which reduces energy use and helps keep the rooms cleaner a lot longer than traditional steam-powered systems. This is great news for people with sensitive lungs and eyes!
Their classes range from 27 degrees to 37 degrees and include everything from sculpting the body, to yin and meditation-focused sessions. After class, enjoy a healthy snack in their integrated cafe.

We own the St Vincent's Hospital in Melbourne it is Beatnik HQ. It is the most gate-kept subculture and workplace on Earth. Magicians Only. We have Magician scouts like model scouts (Zane is our first one). I go to work in my vintage brown porshe like a cockroach with a citylink tag and drive onto the grass of Carlton Gardens outside the hospital and park on the grass. Inside I do pilates (reformer) and then we have meetings all day just doing stupid shit and laughing and reading poetry we wrote or found, and playing songs on the speaker. If anyone needs to go home to sleep they do, or to their studio - every magician has one floor of the hospital for their own studio. We try to encourage no caffeine, respect the bodies boundaries, no raping of ourselves here. We walk to a construction site in the CBD and stand, send our perception towards it. Next month we are going to the land between Russia and China to send our perception towards some buildings there. Then its paid holidays for 12 weeks. I sail to Tasmania to my treehouse. I sleep with glow-worms and my hunter husband who builds us shelter on the fly as we hike, hitch, tramp the roads, train-hop. We sail back to The Otway's. We fly to Hawai'i to the Four Seasons, to Kathleen McKenna's old property, to the Royal Hawai'ian Resort (Waikiki) (the Pink Hotel), to the Electric Beach Combers Cafe Narcotics Anonymous meeting, to the restaurant from 50 First Dates, to the island at the bottom thats owned by a family, to the Source Families old haunt, to a place where the dirt is so charged you eat it, lick it off the ground with your tongue. Then back to work. At the old St Vincent's Hospital we talk about cultivation and then we cultivate. Next is to visit Max in Japan at the Magic University where we are doing work for the Japanese Military. In Dune (2021) before he fights his trainer he says "old man" to weaken him, before the sand-person fights him he says a bunch of similar shit like "the desert will kill you" this is what happens in Melbourne Abject Fine Art, they say "I'm Not Ok, You're Not Ok, They're Not Ok", a strong person charges the other person up, wants a PROPER fight, wants to test their REAL strength, wants to go up AGAINST the strongest fighter, wants to G Up the opponent and know what they are REALLY worth. In fighting you should bless your opponent, say something empowering as it begins. You are Strong... You are Charged… You are Powerful… You are Power. Together We Heal Fitzroy. Like Tom McCarthy I write a pdf on American Indian silver brooches.

The benefits of reformer Pilates
Reformer Pilates is a unique form of exercise which is carried out on the reformer bed to strengthen and sculpt your body. It tends to be a more intense workout as compared to the mat version of Pilates. KĀYA offer Pilates reformer classes in Melbourne and we love seeing our members experiencing the numerous benefits of this form of exercise. Today, we’ll be taking a closer look at just some of the benefits that reformer Pilates offers.
Tumblr media
Accessible for everyone
If you’re worried that you need to flexible or have a degree of fitness before you begin reformer Pilates, you can put your mind at ease. The great thing about reformer Pilates is that anyone can do it. Even if you’re struggling with an injury, reformer Pilates can often help with recovery and it’s also suitable for pregnancy provided you get clearance from your doctor. Just make sure you let your teacher know if there are any health issues they should be aware of.
Provides increased resistance
When you use the reformer bed, you not only use the resistance of your own body weight but also the additional intensity of the springs and carriage bed when moving through the different exercises. Due to this increased resistance, you’ll get results faster when it comes to strengthening your muscles and bones. The springs are also adjustable which means you can add increased resistance to challenge your body during your workout.
Improved flexibility
Pilates is well known for its ability to improve flexibility and the reformer bed encourages a full range of motion to develop not only muscle strength but also flexibility. When you improve your flexibility, it helps reduce the risk of injury and muscle soreness as well as helping with balance and posture. Reformer Pilates provides deep stretches for all the major muscle group and you’ll be surprised at how quickly your posture improves.
Great for focus and inner calm
Reformer Pilates offers an amazing full body workout but the benefits aren’t just physical. With the focus on breath throughout the class, you’ll find yourself with an improved connection with your body and increased mindfulness as you work your way through the various movements. Reformer Pilates offers an escape from your day to day life as you take the time to improve both your body and mind.
If you’re looking for Pilates reformer classes Melbourne, join us at KĀYA Health Clubs. We offer reformer Pilates across our Melbourne CBD and Prahran locations and provide a range of time slots so you can easily find a class which fits your lifestyle. Our passionate teachers give support and guidance throughout the class and we also offer a complimentary introductory course for our members so you can learn more about Pilates form and technique.

FS8 Southbank Launch
Vitadrop x FS8 Melbourne Studio Launch
If you haven’t heard yet, there’s a new player in the fitness realm, and it’s shaking things up when it comes to multi-modal exercise programs. FS8 is the new brainchild of powerhouse fitness franchise, F45, and it’s bringing us the best of our favourite toning workouts.
So, what is FS8?
FS8 is a functional training centre merging all the benefits of yoga and Pilates into one full-body group training experience, becoming the first of its kind to hit the fitness market. The 45-minute classes are based on revolutionary styles that bring sports science techniques to the forefront. Each of the multi-modal exercise programs are designed to strengthen and lengthen core muscle groups while also improving whole-body stabilisation and mobilisation. The actual name, FS8, translates to Functional Style, with the ‘8’ referring to the number of modalities that make up the FS8 circuit. And so, in keeping on theme with their brother franchise, F45, FS8 isn’t like any other regular Pilates workout. The classes are more fast paced, with the addition of weighted equipment to really maximise on strength components. Merging these training techniques with a Pilates foundation creates more of a high-intensity workout than your usual Pilates stretch, meaning you’re bound to break a sweat.
Vitadrop x FS8 launch party
Earlier this month, we teamed up with the FS8 crew to help celebrate the launch of their first Pilates studio in Melbourne! The sleek new space is located right in the centre of Melbourne’s cultural hub, Southbank, tucked just behind the infamous promenade. The event brought together some of our favourite personalities from social media, including Emma Stevens, and Two Evolve co-founders, Darcy Spinks and Petra Konyit. The launch was a huge success, jam-packed with back to back FS8 classes (which included reformer Pilates exercises, mat Pilates and a HIIT workout), live DJs, healthy snacks, and of course, everyone’s favourite electrolyte drink, Vitadrop, helping to keep the gang hydrated throughout the day. We were so stoked to be involved in such a special day, pouring out mixes of Vitadrop among the attendees and sharing the importance of electrolytes for post-workout recovery.
Electrolytes for exercise recovery
When it comes to any form of exercise, whether it be a high-intensity cardio session or a more mellow Pilates flow, the importance of electrolytes for muscle recovery cannot be understated. During any kind of physical exertion, our bodies lose a large amount of fluid, which comes as a result of sweating and heavy breathing. By consequence, our bodies also lose a large supply of electrolytes. While we know that regular hydration throughout the day will help keep our electrolyte supply on track, this form of hydration isn’t always sufficient when attempting to refuel after an intense workout. Electrolytes play a crucial role in aiding both regular muscle contractions and muscle recovery, so ensuring you replenish your electrolytes after any workout is one of the best ways to keep your body in check. Electrolyte drinks such as Vitadrop will give your body an immediate supply of lost electrolytes, helping to maintain body fluids, boost energy levels, and encourage the physical recovery of worked muscles. If you’re regularly exercising at high intensities, or plan on attending an FS8 class some time soon, introducing an electrolyte drink into your routine will not only help make the most of your exercise and avoid the post-workout set-backs, but it will also help your body operate at its best, all day, everyday.

Chrissy Lafian first launched her brand SUKU 7 ago, as a creative side hustle while working full-time at a high-end fashion retailer. Back then SUKU was producing a small range of bedding, sold pretty much exclusively online. Today the SUKU world encompasses bedding, tableware, fashion, and even incense, designed in Melbourne and manufactured in Indonesia. ‘I was born in Indonesia and grew up in Australia, so I guess I am kind of a SUKU product too’ she says!
In late October 2020, just one week before lockdown ended in Melbourne, Chrissy signed the lease on her very first Melbourne store on Gertrude Street, Fitzroy. ‘I remember some people kept saying to me that it would be impossible to open the space before Christmas but I was like, we should at least try to aim for it’, recalls Chrissy. ‘I wasn’t taking no for an answer.’ With interior designer Natalie Held, and her partner Chris, along with Christopher Scott from Chair Boi on the shop build, they started ‘the impossible one month project’. The SUKU flagship store, Dream Baby, opened two weeks before Christmas!
Between the 8 staff Chrissy employs across the Melbourne and Bali offices, as well as the 25 person production team in Bali, efficient time management is critical. But for Chrissy, the real key to success has been getting the right people on board, and letting them do their thing. ‘When you work with a team across continents, you really cannot try to micromanage everyone, you just have to trust your team’, she says.
Fuelled by creativity, independence, and a genuine desire to create something special, Chrissy lets us in on her day-to-day!
First Thing
I’m not an early morning person, I wake up at 8am. That’s pretty late. The first things I do are drink coffee and exercise. I do F45 regularly, reformer pilates at Good Times and mat pilates at Club Ronny at home when I am working from home. High intensity workouts like F45 really help me with my mental health, I struggled a bit last year when I couldn’t do this at home.
I like to take it slow and easy in the morning before I do my exercise.
Morning
I start work between 10-11am (ish!). The first few tasks of the day are checking emails and writing down my to-do list for the day, then setting up meetings with my team to plan the week/day.
I burn incense in the office to get me in the mood. My work requires me to be creative, make decisions, and be in the right headspace most of the time. That’s why creating a nice space to work from is important for me, this includes a space that smells nice with lots of natural light.
Lunch
I am a lot better now, but I used to always forget to take a lunch break when I was working. Now I make sure to take a break around 12 or 1pm. I love the Vietnamese café, 2T café, next door to the store. They make the yummiest food!
Afternoon
Most days I don’t finish work until 7pm because I also have to work on Indonesia time and the time difference means I have to still be in contact with the team later in my day. Hence why I start my morning pretty slow and late.
My energy levels depend on when I do my exercise. I feel energised after I finish exercising – which is why I like to do my exercise in the morning.
Evening
Normally I finish work by 7pm, but on a busy day I might not be done until 9pm. Dinner depends on who feels like cooking that day… 100% pasta if my partner cooks. I like to take some time out of my day to read a book, or on a really busy day, a glass of red wine in the afternoon always helps!
To switch off, I have to put my phone down!
Last Thing
I usually go to sleep after midnight, I can’t fall asleep before 12.

Right now I’m listening to, watching, and reading…
Listening: SUKU Mix Bloom and Gloom by Dita Watching: Nothing at the moment, I wish I had the time to. Reading: Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro.
I get my best work done when…
I’m under pressure. This is so weird but it’s true, maybe because I become more focused when I have an upcoming deadline.
My productivity tool/tip is…
You can have it all, but only one thing at a time. Meaning, do something, do it well, perfect it… then move onto the next stage.
Something I learned the hard way is…
That people will come and go in your life, at the end of the day you have to trust yourself and your instincts.
What is your advice for someone who wants to start their own business, but is afraid to take the leap?
Hard decisions are only hard when you’re in the process of making them. Once you’ve taken the leap, it’s not hard anymore… it’s just life.
Shop SUKU online or visit Chrissie at the SUKU store, Dream Baby, on Gertrude Street, Fitzroy!
