Meg McCaffrey reclaiming her personhood by being unapologetically herself is so beautiful, and I truly do believe she might possibly be the best female character Rick has written for the Riordanverse.

Of course that's entirely subjective, but her personality is so different from the other characters we've seen - and for good reason! Meg has been a weapon for almost her entire life, so she clings to every chance she gets to be a child while she's away from Nero. When you compare her to characters like Nico who've been forced to mature the moment they were thrusted into demigod life, it's such an interesting change of pace?? We barely see that!

And I think that's why it takes a little longer for people to warm up to her. I can understand that, we're used to characters putting their personal wants and needs aside to be soldiers. It can be a bit jarring to see Meg, who's introduced for the first time around the same age that Percy was when he debuted in TLT, act so differently despite having been apart of the mythological world for so long.

But I think that's why I'm so fond of TOA. It deviates away from the formula in so many different ways, but the narrative decisions for both Meg and Apollo are incredibly rewarding to read in full. They're two completely different people (if we're going off surface-level observations anyway) and they bring out the best in each other despite that. With him, she can just be Meg :)

What is your opinion and thoughts?

I don't really have any thoughts on this one? ¯\_(._.)_/¯ I personally don't think it'd do much - Poseidon, particularly like Mycenaean Poseidon (who is "Earthshaker" Poseidon, who we know is Percy's dad), is already associated enough with the Underworld. I mean, Mycenaean Poseidon pre-dates and is functionally Hades, so it feels a little redundant? You don't really get anything new and special out of it that you can't already excuse with Percy's preexisting heritage. It doesn't even particularly make him more powerful, since we're told in TOA that older forms of gods are more powerful anyways, so Percy being son of Mycenaean Poseidon specifically already does that for him.

Also I just personally prefer to lean away from hcs about adding extra legacies into the family histories of the rest of the Argo II crew or similar hcs like that. I feel like it can really easily take away from part of the heart of the series emphasizing how mortals can be just as important and special as demigods if not handled well. I also just find it more fun to think about how mortals interact with the mythology side of their world in the Riordanverse, cause the integration of their universe is kind of a major appeal of the series. I also just have a personal headcanon that children of Hades/Pluto and legacies of them are extremely rare, since Hades/Pluto has minimum none and maximum like, four maybe? mythological kids. So, yknow, keeping that pattern. But at the same time it probably makes me a bad person to ask for thoughts about a hc like this specifically.

You could theoretically double-down on the Underworld themes if you really wanted, but at that point you might as well just make it a godswap au probably? Cause if you go legacy of Pluto + son of Mycenaean Poseidon you functionally have Pre-Hades + Hades DLC, which just kind of ends up Hades^2 and that's a little awkward. Other option would just to be keep him descendant of Mycenaean Poseidon only and emphasize the Underworld stuff from day 1 and make it into a whole thing about different historical/regional/etc forms of different gods and how those roles shifted over time and stuff which is a topic I adore and think is really cool and has a lot of meat to it.

But again you can do whatever you want forever. I'm not the boss of you. I don't know.

physically i am 20 but mentally? im 12 years old being diagnosed with adhd getting recommended this book and kicking and screaming in the woods to the lightening theif musical, falling headfirst into greek mythology which would change my life forever and make me study archaeology, i am crying at being understood for the first time again, seeing myself in a book, I am roleplaying online pretending to be connor stoll, i am begging for a bright orange teeshirt for my birthday so i can run around and pretend to be in camp half blood where i am finally normal.

this means everything to me, pjo is such an important book series and seeing it come to life, seeing it be more widely available for those 12 years olds who were me, this is everything. and i am so happy.

I don't think we talk enough about the seven putting a goddess in a stable. So here is my offer:

The seven begin putting people in the stables much earlier and continue doing so throughout the three books.

Narcissus is the first and Eco voluntarily gets on the boat but they keep forgetting about her constantly.

Phorcis and Keto? to the stable.

The dolphins escape but Chrysaor goes to the stable.

Sciron? to the same stable as Chrysor, his turtle begins to follow the Argo.

Pasiphaë? to the stable

Triptolemus and his snakes? to the stable

Cupid? To the stable, Jason kicked him there.

Khione, Calais and Zetes? To the same stable, the three of them together.

Nike? To the stable.

Kymopoleia? She climbs up voluntarily to poke Keto and Forcis with a stick.

I know there are many more people and gods that the seven encounter that deserve to be put in the stable during their adventure, but I'll leave it here.
