Imo, Hyperborea was some sort of courting gift or something Boreas gave Apollo. Because here's the thing with Hyperborea:

It's the One Place Boreas does not blow his winds, hence its title of Eternal Spring.

Boreas's palace resides at the southern border of Hyperborea, with gryphons who live in BOTH places.

Three of Boreas's son are PRIESTS of Hyperborea, and serve Apollo when he's there.

Three of Boreas's daughters joined Artemis's hunt (Oupis features in my fic Shattered Minds, btw!)

Hyperborea is literally "over the north wind" in Greek.

Selene- Personification of the Moon 🌙

Selene is said to be the personification of the Moon. Especially the crescent moon which is one of her symbols. This association also makes her apart of the triple Goddess. Selene rides a chariot pulled by milky white horses across the nights sky.

Selene is daughter to Titans Hyperion and Theia and sister to Sun God Helios and Eos the Goddess of the dawn.

She had a number of lovers, falling most famously for a mortal Endymion. She couldn’t bare to see him turn old and so a spell was cast on Endymion placing him in a deep slumber with everlasting youth. This didn’t prevent the Goddess from visiting him and having 50 of his children. (This number represents the number of lunar months between each Olympiad)

Selene has a daughter with Zeus after an affair named Pandeia.

Her weakness is abandonment and is unable to stay faithful to men or Gods.

can i have a summary of your AU? it seems like something different and ORIGINAL for once, focusing on the benefactors and not demonizing them to hell and back like everybody else does

Philosophy Sessions gets its name from an idea for a comic of Moon (while Survivor is still visiting) addressing her relationship with the Anemons (the "Ancients"' species name here) and her own faults like tolerating harm for too long. By herself, she comes to the conclusion that though the relationship/s she had with them were once good, they eventually became rotten and bad for her. She has a session philosophising about it all.

The AU's happenings keep the theme.

The main things happen in a different Iterator group (The Children of Eo/group Epsilon) from the one in-game (Wish for Tomorrow/group Tau, though sometimes it'll be nice for them to pop up and I'm not against making something for them from time to time either), during the time the Anemons still lived. Through characters, I aim to explore the spiritual/religious, philosophical, psychological and sociological aspects of their world.

It's meant to be more of a think-piece than a story, tool for exploration the complexities of anger, sex, attachment, relationship with being alive at all and coping with being terribly hurt.

Currently I mainly work on the worldbuilding through info posts so I have a solid ground to put these softer things on, along with some goofing off with the characters since knowing them is vital for these themes.

If served in a story format, I divide it into four "books": • The Polar War • Biography of a Sparrow • The Ending Chime • Transfiguration

The Polar War is about a war confict between group Epsilon and a group north from them, Rho/Frost's Promise.

It revolves around a "society" vs "society", the reason for the conflict is unclear, the main questions are ,,Why and how can a society preaching these spiritual values get into a war? How far are they willing to go?" with secondary questions of ,,How would the Iterators do in a large violent situation? How would a war conflict work for this world where death is... not really a thing?"

Biography of a Sparrow is about a low karma Anemon in the golden age, from the low castes, Three Sparrows on a Wire. This is the oldest part conceptualized, most developed, with Sparrows being my first Anemon character.

She lands herself a spot in a school for Iterator mechanics, an incredibly demanding job that ends up misplacing her into the high caste. She's also very bad at the spiritual things, the job puts a strain on her relationships with family and her priorities, her Iterator charge falls in love with her complicating things tremendously and her past lives are rather dark, loud in her dreams.

The goal is exploration of the Anemons' social structures and the spiritual concepts as she eventually begins confronting her faults and learning better.

The Ending Chime has a 16 year old high karma Anemon boy, real name secret for now and nicknamed Preacher, for protagonist.

The story takes place during the last months of the Anemons' existence. Preacher is faithful to the spirituality, but despises the religion that has gone corrupt. He was sold to the religious command of the community as a toddler in exchange for his parents being pardoned for having sex with a resulting accidental child. The caretakers, with an actual preacher as a sort of leader, have mistreated him and other given up children. The broken tooth and lip scar he has are from a bad slap from the preacher for questioning the religion when he was 10. That kind of stuff.

During one night of doubt and resentment on the kid's part, Théta, the highest yet forgotten god, contacts him and supports his decision to run away to join a rebelion against all of this. During his journeys we get to know how the society has changed since Sparrows, we get to see spiritual creatures, old corrupt gods and echoes of the past, while also getting to meet more Iterators and getting some lessons from them.

We all already know that Preacher won't get to win, though.

Transfiguration is about Théta stepping down into physical existence as the Saint to free the Iterators from their suffering, specifically about those in group Epsilon. Here, he is joined by the Iterator Biting Notos who lives more as an overseer at this point than the whole bio-computer thing.

They travel together, discussing the ages past, Notos' regrets and conflictions about helping the Saint do its quest and listening to the dying Iterators' last thoughts, last philosophy sessions.

Hi BPP, i noticed in one of your asks about Jikook, you mentioned paying attention to their Vlives and i swear to you that one of the biggest reasons i think Jikook are not just platonic is because of their Lives especially the ones when it’s just two of them. There is this different air around them and you can literally always feel how thick the air is with tension.

I know this might sound a little delulu but i 100% trust my guts when it comes to certain things. I’m usually not very great at catching things at first glance but when someone else catches those things and brings them to my attention, I’m exceptionally good at paying more attention and catching those things many people will miss. There is nothing in the world that can convince me that Jimin wasn’t with Jk in his room during that famous “naked bread Live” where Tae surprised Jk in his room. There is also Hobi’s Live from 2016 where Armys kept asking for Jimin and Hobi went to Jimin’s room and it was clear that they were hiding something or someone. Now this one is debatable as to who it was in Jimin’s room but there was 100% someone there with him as we could literally see a shadow pass by in the tv screen. Another Live that was very telling was the New Jersey Live of May 2019. That Live where Jk started a live and later panned to Jimin. That Live is a goldmine and minus all the analysis, anybody who has a little bit of a brain could immediately tell that something fishy was going on with Jikook. I always laugh when tkkrs also use that exact same Live as proof that taekook were sharing a room because of that statement Tae made about “weren’t we sharing a room”, i mean he came into the room and the first question he asked was, “whose room is this” he literally didn’t even know it was Jk’s room in the first place lol and if they were indeed sharing a room, why the hell will he feel the need to ask Jk “weren’t we sharing a room” outta nowhere? If you live in the same house as someone, do u just wake up outta the blue and ask them “aren’t we living in the same house?” How does it even make sense? If you paid attention you would notice that, just b4 tae said that, there was a cough sound that came from maybe the bathroom or something and Jk immediately asked Tae to stay put while he went to the bathroom and while he was there, you could hear him mumble something offscreen and that is when Tae said that. I always thought maybe tae said that to cover things up or he was just being his chaotic adorable self idk but that Live pretty michconfirmed alot of things for me. Not forgetting how Jk was literally kicking tae outta the room lol.

Almost all of the lives with Jimin and Jk in them pretty much give them away and the lives are my biggest reason for thinking Jikook are/were more than friends. I honestly can’t tell what kind if relationship they have with each other these days but nothing can convince me that those two have always just been platonic. Even if they have never actually dated each other or been in a relationship, i know that they have felt sexual attraction towards eo and have probably acted on it. I mean lets be serious here, why else do you think Jk would visit Jimin’s room multiple times a day, goes there really late at night and remains in there for abt 4 hours at a time “doing nothing” as Jimin said? Especially when he has 5 other hyungs he could visit and hang out with when he is bored. We know he is really close to Tae too so why wouldn’t he even spend some of that time hanging out with him? What is so interesting about any room Jimin is in that he has continued to be obsessed with those rooms for years BPP? Since b4 their debut, we they have always liked spending their nights together. Jk would pile clothes on his bed to go sleep in Jimin’s bed, when Jihope were roomates, it was the same time taekook shared their big living space together yet we found out from Jimin and Hobi that Jk came into their room every single night to sleep there. The one time staff hid cameras in their hotels rooms without telling them, what happened? Didn’t we all see Jimin and Jk getting into Jk’s hotel room together even though all the other members got into their rooms together? Let’s not even talk about Hobi’s bday Live in 2019 when Jimin had to come back to get Jk cuz it seemed like he couldn’t get into his room without him or how during the Live itself he mentioned telling Jk he wouldn’t be able to get which suggested that they were together in the same room before joining the Live.

I dunno combing through footage of all these years, it is crystal clear that there was/is something up with those two. They are just too sus.

He stared back.

Y/n blinked.

He blinked back.

Y/n's mother had not warned her about how awkward small talk could get. She cursed inwardly, wondering what to say to break the silence when he spoke again.

"Is it your first time attending a party?"

Y/n sighed quietly, nodding as she felt her lashes brush against the mask she wore, a dark green satin with embroidered flowers and vines, pearls of different sizes woven into the soft material resting snugly on her features.

"Yes. my lord. Is it your first too?"

He pushed off from the wall. "Not really, no. Officially? Yes, its the fist time I'm attending a party."

"And how is that?"

"You see, no one really cares to see if the youngest son sleeps as instructed when an event takes place."

Y/n blinked, and then the realisation dawned upon her. "You- you're the high lord's youngest son!"

"Oh hush, be quiet. I had to shake off so many people and sneak around to get one breath of relief. You screaming will lure them back."

The faelight glinted off his slightly sharp canine, and a shiver wound its way down Y/n's spine. "I..."

"Its nowhere far, despite what I wish. We'll just go into the gardens and talk. Better than laughing at the everyone's unfunny jokes, don't you think? And you don't have to reveal your identity either! Keep your mask on, and I will never know if you don't want me to."

Y/n nodded hesitantly, worrying her lower lip as she glanced around.

Just before she was about to turn back to the High lord's son, her eyes met her mothers, and instead of reprimand in her eyes, all she saw was stern encouragement as she nodded her head towards the door.

Swallowing, Y/n gestured at the male- what was his name again? Terrance? Thomas?- to lead the way.

"So, you are..." He glanced at her hopefully as he walked next to her through the empty hallways, and she stared back indifferently.

"Rose."

He grinned, mischief in his eyes. "That's not your real name, is it?"

Y/n simply hummed, looking away from him to take in the massive hallways, filled with unnecessary expensive items.

He laughed. "Stubborn. I like it."

Y/n resisted the urge to roll her eyes, following him into the open air or the sweet smelling gardens.

The night passed quick as Y/n lost herself to the fragrance of roses and jasmine, and maybe also in the sound of his voice as it resonated deep in Y/n's being.

And maybe Y/n was mistaken, maybe she was delusional, but she could have sworn she saw him staring at her lips more than a couple of times.

She was just delusional.

Or was she?

The Mother was definitely laughing, knowing that son enough Y/n would be arranged to be married to him.

Selene is the Goddess of the Moon, the personification of the ancient lunar deity in Greek mythology, the child of the titans Hüperion and Theia, the brother of Helios and Eos. The Moon is the planet of the night; it represents beauty, light in the dark infinity. The Moon is usually a symbol of the female principle, devotion, fertility, cyclical nature, and changeability. Aublet’s Selene appears to be at the end of her nightly journey, her back arched, legs and arms wrapped around the slight silhouette of the moon, the sky brightening with the pink hues of the oncoming dawn (brought by her brother Helios). The romantic exploits of the moon goddess with Zeus, Pan and perhaps the best-known story with Endymion, who was given eternal youth and immortality, but at the same time Zeus gave him an endless dream, so he slept until the end of time in a cave where Selene visited him every night, have been told and painted in countless versions during time. Yet, in this work, Aublet seems to be disinterested with narrative conventions, simply placing Selene in a fantasy realm, allowing the goddess' finely painted form to inspire the imagination

I've seen it popping up again, the argument that because Elain and Lucien's names were not mentioned in SF as often as Gwyn and Az, it's proof that Gwyn and Az will be given the next ACOTAR book but.....

In Empire of Storms we have the following:

Chaol - 12 mentions

Dorian - 469 mentions

Nesryn - 5 mentions

Yrene - 0 mentions

Chaol and Nesryn weren't involved in book 5 at all, they didn't even have page time and instead were mentioned in passing. EoS focused on the journeys of the other characters. Yet Chaol, Nesryn and Yrene were the main characters in book 6 despite their absence in book 5. And in book 4, Chaol was mentioned more than Dorian yet SJM still decided to hold off on Chaol's story until book 6.

Gwyn's name is mentioned in SF because she's Nesta's found family and part of Nesta's journey. Azriel's name is mentioned in SF because he's Cassian's best friend and family and part of his journey. The book is about Nesta and Cassian and the people that are closest to them. So.....why would Elain and Lucien be hanging around them often enough to compete for name mentions when they are not part of their found family? When neither is part of the Inner Circle or the story of the Valkyrie's or the whole business with time travel / other worlds? Also, SF was about Nesta learning who she was outside of being Elain's protector, therefore Elain needed to be off page so Nesta could do just that.

It's illogical to think that in SF, Elain's name should be mentioned more than Gwyn or Lucien more than Azriel when neither Elain or Lucien are going down the same path as those in the Night Court and that particular story heavily involved what was going on in the Night Court. Just like Chaol was heading down a different path than Dorian in EoS which is why he was barely mentioned.

But really, even though they didn't have page time, SJM did set up the next steps for both Lucien and Elain.

Lucien commanded Cassian with a word and that's not something that is probably going to go unnoticed by Lucien, he's going to start questioning what's going on with his powers.

Koschei said that he's waiting for Vassa's return (a storyline both Lucien and Elain are involved with).

We saw both Amren and Rhys say Elain is now ready for more and it's time people stopped underestimating her.

We saw Elain ready to take on more and the willingness to get reacquainted with her powers. We saw her remind everyone she's not a child to be fought over or told what she can and can't do

They stationed Lucien in Spring because they're growing very concerned over Tamlin's state and the lack of enforcement of Spring's borders.

We have Nesta telling us Elain's scent is a promise of Spring, that Spring had been made for someone like Elain, that she'd tell Elain to visit Spring if they were speaking.

We have Lucien staring across the continent, setting his target.

We have Nesta wondering if Elain would still travel to the continent but beyond the tulip fields.

We have evidence that black (the Night Court) sucks the life out of Elain.

We have a lot of focus being placed on Elain's wooden carving, it first being the only thing taken from the human lands, then being placed next to a figurine of a goddess though Nesta doesn't want to ask herself why, then on their father's gravestone as a permanent marker of the beauty and good he’d tried to bring into the world. If Elain is so unimportant to the story, then why did SJM spend so much time incorporating Elain's carving into Nesta's journey?

We have Feyre mentioning that they'll help the other sister after helping Nesta while also admitting she'll probably never consider Elain more than a pleasant companion.

We're told Beron (Lucien's "father") can't be held off for much longer and may ally with Koschei (SJM also made it a point to remind us that Lucien had met Elain's father and that Beron slaughtered Jesminda).

We have Elain returning Az's gift after he called her a mistake.

We have Lucien still staring at Elain with longing after nearly 2 years (it's time to put that boy out of his misery).

How is Elain not ready for her story? Nesta started hers living in a run down apartment, drinking and gambling and sleeping around, refusing to interact with anyone or do anything about her powers. There was no major setup as to the direction Nesta would be going with her story, SF gives us way more for Elain than we had for Nesta. Elain is never going to hit rock bottom the way Nesta did, her version of that happened in ACOWAR, but it's clear that she's trying her hardest to fit into a place she doesn't belong and that isn't making her happy. She is ready to find her own path.

And yes, the whole time travel / crossover thing is going to be important for future books but it's not MORE important than Koschei, Beron, Spring, etc. It's simply SJM introducing a new storyline. Just like Dorian's journey involved Manon and the witches, Maeve, etc., and Chaol's involved the healers, and the political stuff going on in that kingdom.

SF was a fork in the road for certain characters with one branching in one direction (Valkyrie's, Illyrians, time travel) and one branching in the other (Day Court issues, Beron, Koschei, Spring). And it's very clear which characters are involved in which branch. So I'm not sure why people continue claiming Elain's absence in SF is evidence of something. The only thing it's evidence of is that she's not sticking around the Night Court and is gearing up for her own path.

Just as SJM paused what was going on with Aelin, Dorian, etc after EoS to tell Chaol's story, she can in fact decide to pause what's going on with the Night Court in order to first tell us Elucien's story and resolve the issues with Koschei, Vassa, Tamlin, Spring, etc.

Is that definitely what she's going to do? No, it's all up in the air and is entirely based on which storyline she needs to first resolve in the ACOTAR world. It all depends upon whether the Valkyrie / Illyrian / time travel is the next step in the overarching story or whether it's the other stuff (stopping Beron, securing Spring's borders, Vassa, the peace treaty, etc). Just because CC3 is coming up, she can still step back when she returns to the world of ACOTAR and deal with Elucien's storylines before leading into Gwynriels. ACOTAR readers aren't supposed to need to know what happens in CC3 for the next ACOTAR book to make sense.

What it is not based on though, is whose name is mentioned the most in the book before it. And just because she introduced new storylines for Gwynriel's book, it doesn't mean she HAS to continue with Gwynriel next considering she's been introducing Elucien storylines for multiple books. Elucien's story has been building for much longer, since 2016.

And yes, Chaol had a bonus chapter but is it not a bit odd to people that Elain has never been given a POV? Rhys had a POV, Lucien was given a POV when Feyre slipped into his head, Cassian was given a Bonus Chapter in ACOMAF and POV in the novella, Nesta was given a Bonus Chapter and POV in the novella, Az was given a Bonus Chapter, Mor was given a POV in the novella. Literally, Elain is the only main character (who is set to have a story) that we've never been given direct from the source insight on.

Not to mention Chaol's pov showed him on a boat heading to the Torre Cesme and his story immediately picked up after that.

Az's pov was on Solstice evening and months passed after. Other more pressing concerns happened after his bonus took place (like Beron wanting to now ally with Koschei since Briallyn is dead and that Mor still can't get the fae on the continent to sign the treaty, things that are tied to the actual plot versus the bonus which revolves around Az's struggles with women). Az's pov was simply introducing who his mate most likely is but that doesn't mean he's ready to actually end up with her in the next book. Just like Cassian's pov during MAF hinted at him having a bond with Nesta but he wasn't ready to actually end up with her until over a year later. Yes Nessian got a pov after Feyre's journey was over but there was still 1.5 books between the introduction of their bond (at least the hints of it) and their HEA. Is it not possible SJM introduced Az's possible bond so that he can get his HEA 1.5 books later?

Plot wise, stopping Koschei and Beron seems to be a bigger concern.

There's never debate that Mor is getting a book before Elain even though Mor had a POV while Elain has not. SJM could have chosen to give BOTH Az and Elain Bonus Chapters in SF and still gone the route of Az getting the next book but instead, she chose to give the second bonus to someone who we know isn't getting another POV (however....both those POVs featured Elain).

It seems very purposeful to me, that we're not getting into Elain's thoughts and I don't think we will. I don't think Elain will ever get a bonus chapter, even before her book because I believe her thoughts are going to be too spoilery. In Elain, the entire point of her character is everyone assuming they know her, that they know what she wants and SJM continues to play off that.

For Elain, I could see SJM sharing a bonus after her book is released, something that took place before but that would have revealed too much if she released it chronologically.

Could Gwynriel still be next? Absolutely. But there are nuances to Elain that makes her very unique to any other SJM character getting a book (like knowing with certainty who her mate is before her book, something we've never seen before) and I think it's important to remember that before assuming that her setup needs to look identical to someone who came before.

And there is a logical explanation for why she isn’t mentioned often in SF so using that as proof of why she can’t have the next book makes no sense to me.

I personally think TK set their own protocols on "visiting" their homes. If they were just seen in public, that means many eyes are on them even after the event. Case in point, the "new" photo of them walking around with Wooga. People stalk them.

They are aware that stalkers are everywhere. So being out in public puts them more at risk of being tailed/followed. I don't think they go to each other's places after being seen in public but would go to their own places to minimize risk. This also happened after their public appearance at Hyoshin's show.

They definitely have ways on getting into eo's places without getting seen but that would be at risk of exposure if they do that just right after being seen publicly.

Maybe JK felt lonely afterwards because it really wasn't the most ideal situation specially after a night out like that, something that must have been huge for them. Plus them doing livestreams, as if to show that "hey, we went our separate ways". JK must have had a fun night but it had to end in a less than ideal way: having to separate ways for their safety against stalkers. I can imagine how that must have sucked tbh, taking a big step going out in public together and enjoying the night with Tae and Wooga, but having to cut your time together short, along with the happiness you felt.

To some that might seem an extreme way of thinking, but I do think it’s rooted into something very real. Aside from the Tkk of it all, we know they have stalkers. Both Tae and Jk have had people come seriously close last year, and those must’ve been very scary incidents to them. So yes, when they’re out somewhere publicly I think they are very much aware that some stalkers and saseangs will take that information and await them at their buildings for when they arrive back home. In the case of Tkk the treat to their privacy that might be is even more of a risk.

I think Jk gets overwhelmed at times. I think he’s pretty sensitive. So a lot of that night might have contributed to why he was feeling off during his live.

Random idea time. So in the post game of pokemon mystery dungeon EO[S/D/T], we get Darkrai as the big bad who was the mastermind behind stuff, but unfortunately never got any backstory of why the hell he's doing this, just that he's doing this so he can have a world of darkness and all that, which is odd since in other stuff he's is told to be more of a neutral or good character then pure evil. Because of this a lot of people have made up interpretations of Darkrai's backstory, so my brain came up with an idea.

Primal Darkrai

Pretty much my idea of this: Darkrai's powers are a too unstable and powerful for him and his body to be able to control, but Cresselia (in this universe) didn't think that he literally couldn't control, that he must not be trying hard enough, it didn't make sense to her since her powers are perfectly fine and most other legendaries' powers too and that Arceus wouldn't have made that mistake. One day Cresselia came up with a plan, which entails that she lies, not usually doing so, but going on, the plan is to keep Darkrai away from others till he gets his powers under control, no one would get hurt and get nightmares, definitely endless ones, and he could focus on controlling his powers. She trusts Darkrai to watch over a time gear, telling him and other certain pokemon have been tasked with keeping the time gears safe just in case someone tries using them for their own gain. Darkrai trusts her since she is his counterpart and one of the few who cares for him and is not afraid of him after all, plus at least he gets to be useful for once, right? So he stays on an island (NewMoon Island) with the time gear, protecting it. Cresselia visits around every other day, talking to him, bringing him something, trying and failing to teach him to control his powers even though he has stated he can't, and stuff like that. But over time visits become longer and longer till she finally stops, getting distracted by other things and slowly forgetting to.

This is where the primal idea comes in: Darkrai would notice that Cresselia's visits are becoming longer apart, but he shrugs it off to just her being busy with stuff from the outside, but doubt and suspicion slowly build up overtime. These feelings seemingly don't do much at first, but the time gear Darkrai's watch over would start to slowly gather them up. Darkrai's feelings would build up as time passes, definitely after Cresselia stopped coming by completely, till one day he decides to leave the island and investigate, only to find that the other gears are still at the tower and that he was the only one protecting a time gear (at the time), quickly realized Cresselia had lied to him, that he's been slowly going crazy on a island for no reason, the small bit of hope remaining shattering. He goes back to the island, the only place he knew to go at the time, most places despising his existence. He was feeling so much at the time, hatred, sadness, fear, betrayal, not even noticing at first that the time gear was cracking under the pressure of absorbing too much emotions overtime, the sounds of it shattering was coming from behind him, releasing the pure raw power and emotions that it had inside of it in a sudden wave that struck Darkrai. He accidentally absorbs it when it strikes him, causing his already unstable powers to skyrocket and his mind to scatter, causing him to go primal. His mind only running on instincts, power, and emotion forms an idea, to spread nightmares and trap every single pokemon inside them. And if he is at his most powerful on nights, definitely nights of new moons, wouldn't an endless night help him to achieving his goal?

And that my idea of a PMD Darkrai with a actual reason of doing evil stuff, and also a idea of a primal Darkrai. I thought of this like 2 days ago and also kinda bad at making fully flesh out ideas so sorry if this sucks. If you also had a idea of primal Darkrai or have a idea on my version of a primal Darkrai, tell me, I would love to know other people's interpretations!

Also fun fact: Primal Dialga is actually dark Dialga in Japan, and if Darkrai's name is technically just Darkdark since its made up from the word dark in Japanese, Kurai, that would mean Primal Darkrai it Dark Darkdark

I'm very passionate about this because barely anyone acknowledges bc

1. they're not tryna seem delusional but this isn't delusion it's literally just acknowledging

3. they think it's shipping but I promise you you can view them hanging around in the background of each others lives as something friends do (not everything Jikookers/ people acknowledge about Jikook is shipping, it's not anyone's fault that u can't see them as just friends stop blaming jikookers for the way u see jikook omg)

near death experience… 

it was after an orchestra rehearsal. irena can't remember if it was her fault for not looking before crossing the road - she can't remember if she looked or not. a car was speeding, going way too fast. she was always afraid of dying, especially before she'd successfully become an egot. the car that hit her quickly drove off afterwards - they left her to die. she just couldn't go that way. it felt like she failed at everything: relationships, upkeeping a family - it felt like her teenage daughter hated her, not hitting her career goals... there was a lot of impact, something had knocked into her and the revving from the engine as they drove away would have been able to be felt if she wasn't in such a state of both mental and physical shock. her power projects outwards but also comes from within, reflecting her experience. she was briefly 'visited' by a member of ceberus corp but there was no reason to believe she was an extra ordinary - perhaps just a very lucky person. still, they would continue to monitor her in the months following.

power… 

it all happened at the beginning of this year. irena's power didn't manifest straight away, mostly because she felt so numb to it all. it started to show when she was experiencing flashbacks of the incident. it started off minute, her hearing warping somehow before she'd pass out she was dampening sound, that was the first sign everyone seemed to miss. it all spiralled from there. the 'shaking' of liquids around her when upset. she was always good at masking emotions but the change within her made it somehow noticeable. breathing eased it. without even realising it, irena was controlling her newly found ability without realising it until she wasn't. there is a potential to be able to bring down buildings but that is dangerous considering she's so new to her ability but also because agents are meant to protect the city, not destroy it. her power is naturally destructive. a child stepped out into traffic and it caused her to stand out into the road, shielding the child and then putting her hand out - it was a risky test and the highly pressured situation made her lose complete control. vibrations not only acted as a shield but quickly crushed the approaching car and driver, the road cracking in the direction the car had been, as an earthquake transpired. the child was unscathed, irena was unconscious - the corp located her before anyone else could. there was now a fatality on her hands. stress lessens her control over it and as conducting is very physical she was advised not to try it until gaining better control - she agreed to this almost immediately and resigned that post.

drawbacks / vulnerabilities… 

her awareness certainly hasn't helped her ability to control it, if anything the stress of it being known to her has made it worse. irena herself is vulnerable if it's triggered, not so much on a small vibration scale but anything more than accidentally breaking a drinking glass makes her bleed from her nose, bruises also appearing on her body as she's not immune to the vibrations herself. in cases of severe stress and/or when a lot of strength has been put into using her ability, it renders irena unconscious.

cerberus corp… 

irena was recruited but initially wanted to hide from cerberus corp. she didn't believe she had an ability and was more than happy keeping it that way. deep down, she doesn't really want to be a 'hero' for anything or anyone but will feign it because she wants to be able to control it. the fact of the matter is that she can't go back to her normal life without mastering that and considering she has no one to teach her, she accepted the offer to join. irena is very much still a rookie and that frustrates her. she's older, she's used to success- the woman has an academy award from composing... she wants to be able to climb up to ranks but that's not something that can be faked seen as her own ability has a very visible physical toll on her. there is a lot of frustration, she does not want to be a level iii. she's powerful on missions but then needs another to pull her out, if required. that doesn't make her much of a team player as she very much keeps to herself and would not currently do the same for anyone else unless it benefited her - the woman's treating it like a game and that's dangerous. although powerful, she's currently too much of a liability. her tactics and planning, however, is excellent, it's just her execution where she struggles. emotions and physicality trigger things from her and while her 'accident' is still fresh in her mind, it's not a good idea for her to be conducting. irena is still working on scores but had to replace her equipment after she damaged it losing control.

codename… 

irena chose the name. it's a character name from the french playwrite, jean-paul sartre's les mains sales (dirty hands), a pragmatic political leader. she's quite pretentious like that and has a very high regard for herself so it doesn't match her power at all. perhaps it gives her away that she doesn't have any intention of becoming a hero that protects the city.

edw spoilers just in case [salutes]

i talked to mags last night about ruyan and tock's indivitual time in elpis and tock has an entirely different time but in ruyans universe i think hades does send a missive back about althaeas familiar like a har har for sending this thing and Althaea, knowing fully damn well she only has one familiar and its Eos and shes literally right next to her, recognizes that something is afoot, but dares not mention it back to hades

no she realizes that someone is lying that theyre her familiar and her interest is IMMEDIATELY piqued, and since she has family working in elpis she KNOWS she would not look out of place visiting, so she BOOKS it there and slips past everyone with them assuming ''oh althaea is here visiting her father''

but she makes sure that hades and hythlo doesnt know shes here, and she immediately deciphers who this mystery familiar is (Ruyan) and understands that she is most certainely either

A) not from this time B) knows something althaea doesnt

so Althaea basically stalks ruyan around elpis to see what shes up to acting as her familiar, all while her actual familiar Eos watches him as well

and i think Althaea puts some pieces together? She doesnt know how, she doesn't know why, and she doesn't fully get where, but she knows that Ruyan must know her, and that Ruyan isn't from here, and so something very, very silly is afoot.

But Althaea also knows that silly little plots like this mean that something very meticulous is happening and must not be disturbed, so Althaea tries not to intervene; but she so badly wants just a moment, and i think in a lull she gets awfully close by to Ruyan and gains his attention and eventually manages to call her over. and IMMEDIATELY Althaea is like ''do NOT tell me anything about you, do NOT say anything i shouldnt know, all i want is to meet you'', and Ruyan realizes that he is in fact standing in front of his fully unsundered self from 15,000 years ago and that she has ''caught'' him in his lying act.

But all she does is get really excited about how for SOME reason, someone or some thing from some where has come here, and she KNOWS about Althaea, and its the coolest thing ever to her! And I think Althaea puts some pieces together and guesses that Ruyan is somewhow connected to althaea in some way, meybe a reborn her from the future, because their aether is exactly the same, but Althaea is for sure that Ruyan isn't any creation of hers. But she's just so EXCITED to see the future standing before her, and she cant stop touching Ruyan's face and scales and hair and the glasses she wears, curious and wondering what the future is like where Ruyan had come from, where people like Ruyan exist born the way they are (points to althaeas ears) and can live without ridicule.

I think the utter joy and delight on Althaea's face churns something in Ruyan's gut, but he promised not to reveal anything or say anything to Althaea she shouldn't know, and even when he tries she shuts Ruyan down and tells her that she must not know, it will ruin the magic of wondering.

Althaea eventually has to return, especially knowing that hades is lurking around and she must not be seen randomly in Elpis after she had missed the chance to come cause she was on an expedition and therefore raise Hades's own suspicions, but i think Althaea Ruyan not by asking a question about the future, but by telling Ruyan one thing, and it's that she hopes that wherever Ruyan came from, and for whatever reason, that she knows that Althaea is rooting for her from the past, and that she hopes that Ruyan enjoys the time she came from and doesn't linger in the past, for to Althaea, living in a past is missing out on the excitement of an unknown tomorrow. She gives Ruyan (essentially herself) a kiss on the cheek, and tells Ruyan that if she wanted to pretend to be one of her familiars she should've made herself an awful lot smaller (especially alluding to Tock, who is lalafell), and then disappears off with Eos in a flash of blue butterfly wings, never to be seen by Ruyan ever again
