Yeehawgust 2024: Greener Pastures

Saddle up, folks! We’ve got greener pastures on the horizon, because it’s time for Yeehawgust’s 6th year this August!

Yeehawgust features daily art prompts as well as alternative weekly prompts, for those of us who are a bit slower on the draw. Don’t draw at all? No problem! Submit any art at all, be it illustration, comics, writing, fanfiction, photography, embroidery, sculpture, music, or whatever other creative endeavors you might enjoy. All skill levels are welcome, and this can be a great opportunity to experiment with new styles and techniques. 

Maybe you love media like Red Dead Redemption and Fallout: New Vegas, or classic westerns like The Magnificent Seven. You might enjoy the genre, and you’re looking for a chance to make a cowboy AU and put your OCs in chaps and your blorbos in a Stetson. Heck, maybe you just really want to draw horses. Whatever your reason, you’re welcome to join in, pardner!

let's all think about roman literally on his knees at gerri’s feet, begging to be saved. but you can’t be saved from Logan, that’s the whole point, he is a planet of a person he’s a black hole he is every decision already made. gerri tries to get him to see this — there’s no way out, no move they could possibly make against him, because Logan. always. wins. maybe if roman could give her one reason to fight for him, but there aren’t any. it’s pointless. it has nothing to do with roman, really, and everything to do with the harsh reality that Logan is the center of their universe. but all that nuance is completely lost on roman, because in that room he is seven years old again and always. and when she asks how it serves her interests, what she is saying is show me a way out, but what he hears is that she doesn't care about him. and maybe she never did.

Kevin Keith's 27 day hunger strike and the censorship around it

From prison, Kevin planned to manage a publicity campaign to call attention to his hunger strike and his demand for a just resolution to his case, however... the day he started his hunger strike, he was moved to solitary confinement. A prison executive came to see him... 

First she demanded that he hand over all of his documents, his paper, stamps, envelopes and his pen. Then she informed him of a policy change: Prisoners on a hunger strike are not allowed to communicate with the outside world.

Kevin had told his lawyers and some members of the media of his plans, but that was it. I certainly had no details, and Kevin's brother Charles also had no details. Worse, there was no way to contact or even visit Kevin, because he was in the hole (solitary confinement).

Kevin held out for 27 days.

His lawyers came to check on him once a week to make sure he was OK, but that's it.  No media responded to his plea. No celebrity supporters tweeted about his plight. We at Death Penalty Action had no information, and could therefore do nothing.

Even as Kevin drank copious amounts of water, he still was dehydrated. Kevin received intravenous hydration ten times, on the following dates:

February 7

February 12

February 14

Twice on February 16

Twice on February 18

Twice on February 22

And we had no idea.

Kevin says he found a spiritual benefit to the experience, but he stopped when the prison doctor warned him that he risked damaging his kidneys. They threatened him with being transferred to the hospital, restrained, and force-fed. At that point, he decided to end his hunger strike.

Kevin Keith is still waiting for Governor DeWine to act on his request for executive clemency. As you may recall, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against him back in November. It is unclear what additional legal avenues he has available to him.

@atlas--mothh Insane take 😭 I think Doran's failures are meant to illustrate the same thing Ned's are, that to seek justice in a fundamentally unjust system that rewards its greatest monsters is never going to work unless the system itself is reformed, not that the brown people should've shut up about their family being murdered and need to die because they have evil genes 😭😭😭

yeah lmao, this really is just another like "weird about Dorne" moment to me. I think the Ned comparison is particularly apt - obviously al of the patriarchs are in conversation with each other, but much more than the others, Ned and Doran are in conversation with each other. In many ways, they're both sort of the "best" you can expect from a patriarchal ruler and a lot of the story is about examining the massive flaws they have despite being the best fathers in the series. They both utterly fail their daughters, they both fail to prepare their sons. They are so stuck in their grief and fear that they wait and wait and wait until it's too late to do anything but die. they keep too much to themselves, refuse to lean on the support systems they have that want to help them, they both have this flaw of weaponizing patriarchal structures against the women in their lives while not using that structure to benefit themselves when they really fucking should. they both doom their own marriages because of the events of the rebellion. they are gentle, and kind, and hard, and compassionate, two of the only characters who come out against child killing while partaking in the child hostage system without examining the ways it is flawed. they try, so hard, but they fail before they've even started because they start too late.

but SOMEHOW. doran is doomed by his evil genes from 150 years ago and ned is doomed by his actual actions. um. no, not quite.

i posted the only doodles i liked of my trying to refine her! there are like... other proto genevieve designs but i didnt like em as much to post...

my issue is i can only focus on the development of an oc once a decade AND ALSO my ocs arent ever meant to have a solid plot bc im bad at writing and just play with em in the dollhouse of my mind so there's not much!

but she is like over 40, trans, has been divorced twice, has a child, she's #weird. if you or someone you know has ever said something like "i want to chain him to the radiator in my basement i want to see him be trepanned" thats how she feels about talon.

they arent REALLY like will and hannibal especially since im torn on how things should go (i want them to have! a happy ending...but i always do that...should i go in another direction for once etc)

but the vision is definitely there. they're both mean and strange and she's meaner and stranger but they do love each other. as of typing this (bc my oc plans shift all the time) she absolutely like. betrays him and crosses the boundaries of an already mentally emotionally fraught guy several times and he always crawls back... idk !

changes all the time. i think the posts i have in both their tags are the best way to describe her + their dynamic atm
