Percabeth - 9/10. love them loads, but could have gone without the judo flip + other odd behaviors that are only seen as “cute” because the sexes are flipped, otherwise they’re great

Jercy - 1/10. i can see potential i guess but also there’s just a lot of better options for both of these characters imo, plus i see them as bros

Valgrace - 10/10, to storm or fire the world must fall, best friends to lovers, no notes

Solangelo - 2/10. i can see…the potential. their “significant annoyance” scene gave me the warm fuzzies as a 14 year old looking for rep. but oh my god how they’re written in canon sometimes is just so bad, it ruins fanon for me as well. not to mention the one-dimensional-ization done in order to amplify the “grumpy x sunshine !!!1!” trope. however i will say Some solangelo fans understand that they should Both be freaks (and in that AU it’s a respectable 8/10 from me) and the ship has fantastic fan artists

I think the way harper's trauma is depicted in s1 is really raw and beautiful. this show gives everyone the space to be messy and her spiraling after her bodily autonomy was taken away is very realistic and imo good to see. that being said I need girlie to get some therapy and form a healthier relationship with sex asap.

I am once again uncomfortable with a show about minors having so much explicit sexual content. whyyyyyyyy is this allowed

writers go to jail for the missy/spider plot. he spent all of s1 being such a vindictive asshole to amerie bc she rejected him and then he was publicly shaming missy (albeit thankfully w/o naming her) for the same reason. he's incessantly misogynistic and racist. he also had the idea of the fraudulent accusation of mrs obah sleeping with a student bc he wanted the slt classes cancelled!!! and fueled the reactionary bullshit that voss was trying to start. like whyyyyyyyy are the writers trying so hard to redeem him I'm sick of this (if he actually sticks to his speech in 2.08, I'll be thankful tho. I still won't like him lol but at least he won't be making everyone else miserable anymore)

ppl hate dusty too much. like yeah he undeniably was in the wrong for his part in starting the rumor about mrs obah and amerie. but imo he's put in more effort to altering his behavior (as seen by him being a safe person for darren to go to) than ant or spider and both of them were involved too and I don't see ppl at their throats like they are for dusty.

I live for chaos and drama so the malakai-amerie-rowan triangle was soooooo fun (altho I wish there hadn't been the extra drama with the rowan being "bird psycho". just stick to the love triangle messiness. also do not get me started on rowan threatening malakai WHAT WAS THAT why did the writers do that 😑 anyway I want rowan back in s3 and making amends w the ppl who were collateral damage in his revenge quest against amerie)

also re the love triangle mess, it seems like the writers are intending for amerie/malakai endgame and I do like them but I feel like the show did gloss over amerie's repeated boundary violations (which honestly was also a problem with her dynamic w harper in s1 too, like girl you have to let people come to you instead of badgering them into talking to you and trying to force them to confess things). like everyone repeatedly told her to give malakai space as he was processing that he was bi and she just kept hovering and trying to force him to open up. like.... girlie please he just needed some time to figure out his feelings.

sometimes the show wants to treat the women as #girlbosses when they actually do things that are really fucked. like I don't hate harper, but the speech she gave to embarrass dusty at the basketball game was really gross and the narrative treats it as epic and her standing up for herself when she and dusty took advantage of malakai not being sober and the fact that he was in a bad headspace after just being attacked by that cop. also the writers act like dusty deserved this just bc harper thought he was acting weird after the threesome like...... is he not allowed some time to process his feelings about a new experience??? like..... how did the narrative treat this as a #girlpower moment what the hell

the demonization of mental illness is pretty uncomfortable. we only really see the symptoms of harper's dad (and presumably rowan) when they are actively being a danger to people. like mental health issues that cause ppl to see delusions doesn't equal that person being violent but the show kind of ties their anger/violence to their mental illnesses... which is another reason as to why I hope rowan sticks around for s3. let's see more of him being soft while still acknowledging these symptoms.

amerie going back to save rowan is one of my fave moments. like she has come such a long way from the girl who aired out everyone's personal business :')

Honestly, I fee like a lot of Osemanverse fans treat the books rather unequally. Let me explain.

I'm going to make a ranked list of all of Alice Oseman's books/series in order from most loved to least loved (based on my observations in social media and the availability of different books). I hold no biases in this list, since I have read/watched all of them. Only observations and some opinions.

Heartstopper. I'm pretty sure most people who have heard of the Osemanverse heard about Heartstopper first. You can find elements of this series everywhere, from all the webcomic platforms like Webtoon and Tapas, to the physical books in bookstores and libraries, to reposts of favourite moments, to the piles upon piles of fan-art and, of course, to the Netflix adaptation, which had immaculate casting and has already been green-lighted for two more seasons. I think this series deserves to be high up on the list - after all, the representation is casual and exemplified in the right places, nothing feels forced, the love story is healthy, but no so perfect that it's entirely unrealistic and the characters all have their spotlight moments. However, I feel like the series sometimes overshadows the other books, which I find interesting, considering this is the only book/series that is centred around a romantic love story.

Solitaire. This is probably the most well-known YA novel for a couple of reasons. One, it is the debut novel, the one that is praised in the front cover of every other Oseman novel, with the familiar phrase 'The Cather in the Rye for the digital age', so most Osemanverse fans have heard of it. Two, it's the novel that ties in with the Heartstopper story the most, by far, especially considering that the main character of Solitaire, Tori Spring, is the older sister of Charlie Spring, one of the main characters in Heartstopper. Three, its depiction of mental health issues, particularly Tori's implied depression, is healthy, realistic and educational. Overall, it deserves the love it gets, especially considering how dark it can get compared to Heartstopper.

Radio Silence. Honestly, I think that this could be tied with Solitaire in some cases - it was, after all, the book that first introduced me to the Osemanverse. It doesn't link with the Heartstopper universe as much as Solitaire, but it does focus more on Aled Last, one of the side characters in Heartstopper, and one of Charlie's friends, although it appears that the two drift off before the events of Radio Silence. I absolutely love this book for two reasons. One, the amazing relationship between Frances and Aled, the two main characters, never goes beyond anything platonic, showing that a boy and a girl don't have to be in a romantic relationship to thrive together. Two, it's the first book in the Osemanverse that shows explicit ace rep - better yet, demi rep - for Aled, which was so nice to read even before I began questioning if I was aspec. I love the cameos it gets in Heartstopper too, especially with Aled in the same shot lol.

Loveless. I'm so mad that this book is so far down the list, but I understand that's because it's the latest one. Firstly, PLEASE READ IT!!!! It follows the first-person perspective of Georgia Warr on her journey to discovering that she is aroace. This book has done wonders for the aspec community in giving them awesome representation and increased attention from the rest of the community, because yes! we exist and yes! us being aspec doesn't mean our lives are sad and lonely and YES! not all love has to come in romantic form!!!!! The fact that Oseman was alluding to their own uni experience in this story is just so amazing! Secondly, it deserves so much more attention in the Osemanverse fandom. Oseman put her whole heart and soul into this book and we are gonna love it like it deserves!!!

I Was Born for This. And now, we come across the book with the least amount of copies sold, available in the least amount of places and talked about the least in the fandom, despite it literally being about the fandom (eyyyy). This was the only novel I had to buy because it wasn't at my library (edit: it is now but it wasn't before) and none of my friends had it, but it is so good and criminally underrated. I understand every other story has something going for it. Heartstopper has impactful rep, Solitaire is the debut novel, Radio silence has Aled and the Universe City and Loveless has aroace rep. However, this book deserves love too!!! It focuses on the chaotic mess of fandoms and the impact it can have on the* artists behind the content, because gaining fame doesn't automatically make everything better, in fact it can make thing worse, like with Jimmy's anxiety. The story also having a muslim MC is also really awesome to see, especially since I haven't read many books with prominent muslim MCs (should probs change that soon lol). Anyway, this book is so so good and you need to read it somehow aaaaaaa!

Anyway, this has been sitting in my drafts for a year now and everything beyond the *asterix has been written today, but most ideas in this still stand. Most of the low-ranked books focus on queer people just existing without the plot being carried by a love story (no hate to the latter but i would like to see more of the former too). Anyway, it's time for the post to be brought into the world, especially considering Heartstopper season 2 coming up in August (yayyy!!!).

What did we learn today, kids?

Give all of a creator's work a chance, not just the most popular one! You will discover many gems!

As one of your Black followers it makes me really feel a type of way that you’re constantly bringing up Black people when you’re talking about Helion and Lucien. I get you want your rep and that’s totally valid but the way you constantly express that desire comes off as you being angry at the black community for wanting some more rep, too. And that’s fucked up.

We can headcanon different things and that’s okay, but what’s not cool to me is you telling people that we’re in the wrong for having our own headcanons (especially when they’re representation related). You have a difference in opinion and that’s your business, but the least you could do is keep Black people out of it. You don’t have to say “why do people always say he’s Black” “he’s not Black” etc etc when you’re talking about this — fight for your rep and keep us out of it.

Your issue should be with SJM for failing to adequately portray race in acotar, NOT with people for wanting helion/Lucien to be Black. Do better.

I never ever want to come off that way, especially to fellow people of color. I can see how the way I speak about this frustration of mine can come off that way but please know, it is never my intention ever for it to be read that way. For that, I am sorry. I really do apologize for ever making you feel like that and this is a general apology to any other friends/followers where my frustration has made them feel that way. Please know that is never the case. Ever!

My frustration is always directed at SJM first because her lack of writing POC characters well leaves us in spaces where we feel unseen. My other big frustration is with readers (many times white readers) who have a very specific idea of race and start pulling out their color charts and telling me, a woman of color, that the way I think of Lucien and Helion isn't correct. My issue becomes with how over the years those types of fans don't listen to a woman of color straight up telling them "Hey, there are other sides to this! There is more than one way to view this character!" I've been vagued about how I view Helion even though it comes from a place of trying to give room for other interpretations of this character. Since knowing that the artist who worked with SJM to create the coloring book aimed at a Persian-inspired Helion, I will always view him that way. To me, that is canon. He will always be a brown man to me. To me, he isn't black, and when people come at me for saying that, it feels like we're erasing one POC in favor of another. You may like to view him and headcanon him as black and you should absolutely feel comfortable to do so but it also shouldn't be at the expense of Middle Eastern rep. For example, to me — it is clear as day that Tarquin and many of the people of the Summer Court are black with no questions. Helion is not because dark-skinned doesn't always equal black. We all want to feel seen in our favorite stories and I would never want to make people feel like I'm trying to sour that for them but I also don't want people souring it for me.

My other issue becomes with readers (again, many times it being white readers) who headcanon both Helion and Lucien as black, stating it like it's fact, and then trying to make those who don't make Helion/Lucien a specific shade of brown or say that they don't see them as black feel like they're wrong. The one thing we can all agree on is that they're not white but we also have to remember, race isn't viewed the same way everywhere and that above all else, is the message I want to get across whenever I bring him up. People of color don't exist in one way or have one specific look or one specific shade of "brown". Let's be real, SJM is a white woman, and her "golden brown" is like a super tan white person lol. But also, tan is a color people of color have. There's this one family I always use as an example because they're half arab and half white but those kids straight up look like redheaded white kids lol. And it's not just about skin tone (though this is always what comes up first). It's also about drawing these characters with Middle Eastern features that don't happen. My frustration always comes down to how color/race is discussed with this one lens without considering how, outside of the US/Europe, people do not see it the same way. Especially when it's white readers trying to tell people of color what shade of color these characters should be. People don't like to consider that Lucien is "white-passing" but that is a thing in many cultures because people of color can still be light-skinned.

Your "do better" at the end feels a tad condescending and this ask feels overall a little rude but I want to give you the benefit of the doubt that you're truly trying to be helpful and coming from a place of friendship. I hope you extend me the same grace knowing that anything I've said is all said from a place of love and understanding. I think in general, we all can do better, especially fellow POCs in the fandom, to uplift each other and give each other space to be/feel seen.

And because this is a topic discussed by quite a few people in the fandom on tumblr/discord today specifically, I want to make it very very VERY clear — I am not being vague about anyone. I am not trying to target anyone with this response. This is not meant for a specific person or group of people. These are my overall thoughts because I've been in this fandom space for years and these conversations keep happening.

I am 100% trying to come from a very respectful place with this response because I know that these kinds of conversations can be awkward and uncomfortable for people. Please know, that my intentions are never to harm or make anyone feel bad but I hope people also extend that grace and understanding to me and my perspective on it. I always want my blog to be a safe space and welcoming for everyone. This fandom and the people in it have been a significant part of my life and joy for so long so it's important to me that none of this is taken in any negative context. I have seen like zero movies with adult metalheads, where they were serious characters and not just cartoonish joke of a character. Bit sad. 😥😤

I agree that there needs to be more of them. There's not a large pool of movies or media that give metalheads a fair(ish) take, BUT... I do have some stuff I wanna share that I love, and while some of it can feel cartoonish, it's not without its deep cuts either. Let me plead my case...

Airheads is a movie I will die for. It's got mother fucking Brendan Fraser in it, and it has one of the only roles that Steve Buscemi has played where I kinda wanted to fuck him... Adam Sandler is fine in it, too, oddly enough. And it's just a totally underrated movie I feel like everyone has heard of but rarely watched.

Lords of Chaos flew under my radar for many years until my best buddy @gomakeawaffle forced me to watch it. It's quiet, heavy, metal as fuck, and does an amazing job of telling about the band Mayhem. The aesthetics alone are worth the watch.

Okay, Deathgasm is cute and fun, and I'll die on this hill. I've seen so many people get into this movie, spot the preppy blonde and turn it off. Like... if they had just watched another 15 minutes, they'd see that chick turn into a metal-loving battle maiden wielding a fire axe against demons. It's hilarious and adorable, and it's just plain fucking fun. It's also probably got the best metalhead rep of them all.

Wayne's World... enough said... (That Alice Cooper Scene. LOL)

Is Brutal Legends over the top? Yes. Is it stupid? Yes. Does it have an amazing soundtrack? Yes. Is it a love letter to all metalheads everywhere? YES. This game is the fucking shit, and it's still fun a fuck to play now as it was on the 360. Eddie is just... ugh, such a fucking charmer (how can you not love Jack Black too??)

I've been watching Metalocalypse since it first aired on Adult Swim, and I even got to meet Brendon Small (the voice of Nathan Splosion) while I was doing B-roll for Adult Swim Fest in my hometown in 2010. It doesn't have a very decent ending, so like... if no one's watched it, be warned going in. They canceled it, then came back and tried to wrap it up with a long final episode that was pretty meh. Every episode is basically a loose plot followed by a song number and a blood bath, but there's some fun behind-the-scenes manipulation plot that's a blast as it goes on. Also... GILFs... and a spikey codpiece...

Alright, Onward has nothing to do with metal, but it's got one of the most lovable metalheads I've ever seen. I feel like Barley is a culmination of every metalhead I knew in high school. Fuckin' dork, lovable, just are unapologetically themselves. Also, Gwendoline does have a sweet-ass paint job.

I mean... Stranger Things really had some rough times, but Eddie Munson stole everyone's hearts, so like... Hnnnn, he's just utter perfection, right down to the musical high horse he charges into battle on. XD

Class consciousness overkill? Too woke for their time, anachronistic; bad indigenous rep bc they have taken on the colonizer religion and also technology and magic. Also I didn't research the patterns on their clothes enough or choose any one culture to base myself on, I just made my own fantasy culture adding onto CR lore ( adding more nuance to CR lore).

And as Liv pointed out, they have an extremely badly calibrated love and friendship care bear beam xD The little guy (gender neutral) just spills out people's shit in the gentlest yet most brutal ways possible, and then just look cute and like, no one ever gets mad at them. They do think that being adorable and whimsy will get them far -- they know very well how to be serious and gloom, but you catch more flies with honey. Please protect me I am small. Also, can you give me a hug? -puppy eyes- Little shit knows exactly how irresistibly sweet they are.

Also, they fit the "child-like, innocent, uwu asexual character" trope. And not only that, an ace character whose backstory touches heavily on the matter of sex. I'm pretty sure a lot of people would come for my neck (others would relate, I hope. I try my best to handle this with utmost care and proper narrative weight, like everything else in Tarlyn's story), so like, yeah, oof.

Problematic little guy would get canceled or infantilized by the fandom.

Finally, they smoke tobacco. Like, everyone has to have an irredeemable flaw, amirite?

That being said, I'm currently writing an original story where I've decided to include a deaf/hoh character and I'm wondering if you would be able to point me in the direction of any educational materials I can use to write him correctly and respectfully? Or, if nothing else, any of your favorite Bakugo fanfictions that treat his deafness particularly well that I can learn from?

Hey! I'm sorry for the probably late reply. My messages... never tell me when I have them. (I'm told it is a common problem) I am more than happy to chat with you via dm's to help provide information. But let me say now, there is no one solid way to write your character correctly. It will vastly depend on a number of factors. If you are looking for a fun resource book I can recommend a book titled "for hearing people only"

But even this is just a general guide. (I have this book and I am Deaf myself. But not all Deaf experiences are the same. So it was still useful for me)

Factors to consider for you character include,

Us this a fantasy world or a real world. Do their parents know sign language. Do they know sign language? Do hearing aids or cochlear exist in your world? Did they attend a Deaf institute, were the mainstreamed, or fully homeschooled? This plus more factors into your portrayal just to begin. But I can tell you right now, if your Deaf person cannot hear well enough to communicate verbally, do not give them some magical aid that allows them to suddenly communicate perfectly. That just erases the fact that hearing loss IS a disability. (Though we prefer not to call it that. It is a culture.) But in the context here as a hearing person you must be aware of the things that it affects and that you can't magic them away or you will be written off as bad rep. Read through my blog there is a variety of writing advice there. Also, if you can get a copy, I enjoyed this fantasy story of a Deaf medieval character,

It was given to me by my ASL teacher when I despaired over reading material that understood what I was going through. (Bless her) a fascinating look into what it might be like in a fantasy setting. Look for art and stories by Deaf people and read it, look at it. Try to understand the grief and the pain and the struggle and the joy and the delay. Then when you write a scene, ask someone in the community, preferably who is similar to the circumstances you are writing, read over it and give feedback. I've studied Deafness from a medical, psychological, governmental and cultural angle. I know a lot. But not everything.

Thank you for the video! A very astute analysis of the show’s change over the years, and how marketing played into it. As someone who has been seeing TdV on and off for fifteen years now (but mostly Hungarian-Viennese-Russian branch), it really did strike me when I saw it again after a long pandemic break a few days just how “predatory gay” trope the Herbert scene is. I guess the world was a bit different back when I was in my teens, and we were just happy to get *any* overt representation there, but that bit didn’t age well, and there sure seems to be little point to Herbert in the show at all.

That said, I always saw this as a complex story about hedonism and human nature without a protagonist, or, rather, letting the audience pick the protagonist, which is not always a bad thing. My main qualm with the show going against the theme of freedom is how passive Sarah is during the escape. For a girl who is more of less defined by agency, who manipulates so skillfully, she sure does not have much agency during the ballroom sequence. Her wants are so clear throughout (*translation dependent), but are completely absent in that moment.

Anyway, please do more videos. I am *very* curious to hear your thoughts on SE.

At the risk of going into a ramble...

When I was a youngish teenager, a group leader at a summer camp I went to sang Totale Finsternis and mentioned it was from a musical, which piqued my interest. I watched some clips from Youtube and they didn't really hold my interest at first, not at all... not before I came across what was probably this video. And then this one. And then this. I didn't speak any German at that point but I was so intrigued (as someone who loved musicals, was obsessed with fanfic and absolutely devastated at the lack of canon lgbtq rep in the types of historical/goth mainstream media I liked - it was 2016). So it's literally Wenn Liebe that originally got me into the show, even though my views on it have done a complete 180 after I grew up and started to look at what was actually going on ajfkkslf. I still think that some of the portrayals are a bit less... well, cruel - Máté Kamarás' Herbert is very earnest for the most part, which makes the portrayal feel more genuine, like the character is more than a parody, even just a little bit.

But it's still an uncomfortable scene and it's uncomfortable that the fandom reaction to it is so overwhelmingly positive even now 😅 Canon divergent fanfic is one thing (I definitely know the feeling of being so starved for lgbtq rep that you just rewrite the story to be able to have a ship), but a lot of people's takes even for the canon show amount to "he secretly likes it", which... 😭 My take still is that a lot of people ship it just to get Alfred out of the way of Krolock x Sarah. And that's annoying ahfkdk, where are the Alfred x Krolock x Sarah fics (Krolock isn't my favourite character but like, that has more canonical basis than alfbert lol)

I agree that Sarah just completely loses her agency for post-bite Tanzsaal, which is a somewhat odd choice! And I think a hedonism reading of the story is really interesting and checks out - in my video I mostly skipped over Chagal and Magda because it's a Can of Worms, but they definitely reinforce the idea that it's the central theme.

Hello! I have yes. Yeah most 1D questions are annoying now lol! Well. This is gonna be a little bit long but please read till the end to understand my point of view. Things are still shady to me. I mean first he left to be a normal 22 years old with Perrie (whom he'd been seen cheating on a couple days before and obviously the sun got the exclusive). Then it was bc of anxiety and he needed time to himself. Then it was coz 1D wasn't for him and the music wasn't his thing and he didn't get along anymore with some of the boys. Now, on top of the boys getting sick of each other, it's mainly bc he wanted to be the first to go solo (implying he knew the end of 1D was coming and/or that at least one of the boys was planning to go solo). He said people didn't want to sign a contract but we all knew the boys weren't signing with syco again. Also the narrative was that H asked for a hiatus, everyone (except Zayn apparently) trusted him it'd only be a break but then he signed with the azoffs whom he'd been close to since like 2013. Also idk if you remember but Zayn actually left on March 19th to go back to the UK to rest bc of stress. So then.. if his plan was actually to leave to go solo, why didn't he leave just then and there? Why make it sound like he was coming back after the Manila and Jakarta shows if he knew he was leaving for good? As you can see, there's been several different versions for him leaving over the years.

But anyway there's still many things I don't understand. First, why had the boys already shot promo adverts etc without Zayn around 5/6 months before he left. If Zayn didn't actually leave bc of anxiety (he didn't mention it as a reason on the podcast) but bc he wanted to go solo first, why didn't he stay for the rest of the Asian shows and then wait after the Dubai show to leave? In interviews and on twitter he'd said he was so excited for these shows and that it meant a lot to him to go there and the Muslim fans were so excited to see him. So why couldn't he do these 3 more shows before leaving? Now you might say, maybe he was so sick of everything that he didn't think he could even perform anymore and felt the urge to get out of there? But then... How come Simon Cowell and his label/team, who are known to make their artists perform while sick, while injured and mentally and physically unwell (as seen with 1D, Little Mix, Rebecca Ferguson etc) and known to give their artists meds and all kinds of things to force them to perform, suddenly decided out of the kindness of his heart to let Zayn go in the middle of a tour esp the last tour before the end of the band? Now people could say Cowell let him go and then sabotaged him later on with a smear campaign and blacklisting but you're telling me... Zayn, who was seemingly the only one to notice what H was doing, didn't realise Cowell would stab him in the back? After all these years being treated horribly? Or that he preferred to sacrifice lots of money (breach of contract) and his public image and his music being sabotaged for god knows how long, bc he couldn't wait a few more months? There were only several months left of tour so why not hang on until then? Why did Zayn have to leave to go solo when he could've still released solo music first once 1D ended? And if he could leave so easily then why didn't Harry leave the band to release music? Why didn't they let Liam leave the band or at least rest for a while when he was on the verge of a nervous breakdown? Also why did Pillowtalk come out under Simco, Simon Cowell's company? Why were the 1DHQ reps with Zayn at the Asian Awards? And why did the narrative with the boys change so much with the boys and Zayn saying they still talked and loved each other, then they didn't and phone numbers were changed, then they made up, then they didn't talk anymore etcetc it was inconsistent for ages!

So yeah anyway there are many things I will never understand when it comes to Zayn leaving. And I've seen my fair share of band members leaving various bands/boybands/girlbands and I've never seen so much shadiness lol.

As you've probably noticed on this blog, I have a tendency to read things I really like really fast so-

I just finished reading all of Loki: Agent of Asgard, and oh boy!

!SPOILERS OF COURSE!

I didn't really know what to expect story-wise going into it, I've never read any of the other Loki comics so I wasn't really sure what to expect, of course I've watched all the movies and sadly the show. My main reason for reading it was the art style, I really liked his character design (loads of gender envy there, and he's cute) I also remembered that this was one of the genderfluid Loki comic points of reference that people talked about when the whole show stuff happened, so I really liked that.

I've been on a bit of a Loki angst streak lately fanfic wise and I really didn't expect the comics to deliver me with those same feelings, but oh god they did. The story itself I found a little confusing at points, I think it's one of those stories I'd benefit from reading again, they also referenced things that happened in the wider canon, which I don't know or follow, they'd make helpful points of reference to other comics which I think is really useful if I did want to understand it more, I wouldn't say it needed a wider understanding of canon, but I'm obviously not sure how much of a bearing which events had on canon etc but I don't think effected the story at all.

I really liked the moral story of it, I thought the message of not fitting into a box was very appropriate for Loki and will also be a very important one to tell, I definitely found it quite insightful for myself, I really liked the ending and oh boy the very height of the story is definitely worth every moment.

I would definitely recommend, especially if you've been disheartened by the Loki series

I liked how they let him have a phone, and I also really appreciated his black nail polish, which it seems all the Loki's wear

Ok let me see if I can get my thoughts into some kind of order on this lol 

I mean to use the most egregious offender as an example, let’s talk about Good Omens s2. Like we come from s1 and the book which operate on a huge scale of time and across the globe with world ending stakes, even when it’s focused on Tadfield or London. There is a whole cast of characters outside of Aziraphael and Crowly with their own motives and agendas that intersect with each other and you can imagine existing before and after the story being told. Then we enter s2 and they’re all gone. God is gone. It’s Aziraphael and Crowley, Gabriel (and Beelzebub), and their neighbors who exist purely to be a Functional Couple oppose A+Cs dysfunctionality. This is kind of the first sin of fanfiction in this case, the world gets smaller and shallower and so do the characters within it. It’s all just feels like props and dressing to get two characters together. The whole Gabe and Beelzebub thing? The only reason I didn’t “see it coming” is because I thought there was no way they would just rip straight from the crackships of AO3 because I have READ THAT PLOT BETWEEN THESE CHARACTERS TWENTY TIMES JUST LIKE THIS. 

Gomens s2 and also the other big recent Gay Shows, Our Flag Means Death and What We Do In The Shadows, really fuckin abuse fanfic tropes to death in more specific ways too though like - a sassy lesbian couple to set the oblivious gays straight, a will-they-wont-they with completely forgone conclusion, everyone is a shy sensitive guy even when they’re ruthless killers everyone is kind of stupid and woobie and seconds from crying all over their soft little love interest, everyone talking in this self actualized therapy speak - SO much very direct TELLING and the SHOWING is just eyecandy, fanservice. The second sin the formulaic predictability and the third is prioritizing fanservice/shipping over storytelling. 

Because that’s the main thing I think? These shows - which I wanna be clear I liked at least at some point but have gotten really disappointed by as they continue - feel like they don’t have a story to tell. They’re just vehicles to get a Gay Couple together, regardless of character consistency or the way more interesting things implied going on in the world around them, and they just shed more and more detail and quality and idk variety? as the main ship’s relationship progresses and the world narrows further and further. It becomes boring, one-note. 

And to cover my bases here I don’t want to be misconstrued as believing these things can’t be or aren’t also true of straight romance shows (or movies, books, whatever) because I think we’ve all seen plenty of Boring Straight Romance, and I am being somewhat generalizing for the sake of what brevity I can accomplish here. But I think the noticeable thing with specifically these new queer romance shows is that they are being aimed at and HEAVILY pandering to yknow 18 - 30 year old chronically online fandom queers because people like Niel Gaiman and Taika Waititi and whathaveyou have witnessed first hand (and made a lot of money from) the absolute frenzy this AO3 donating demographic with go into over this exact kind of content. 

In short, people figured out you can make more money off of really dedicated weirdos with bad taste than you can writing something with depth and substance.

Not everything can be as good as Homestuck I guess!

okay, i wanna start off by saying that your chart in general screams "binnie stan" to me 😂 just looking at it superficially, i was like "oh yes this makes sense" lol. but here you are baby ❤️

your ascendant in leo:

acendants in leo are soooo much fun to be around. whether you're more extroverted or introverted, you probably have a knack for making people feel "seen" or special. you're also likely realllllly good at being able to find at least SOMETHING in common with anyone you meet, and you're able to go off of that. leos get a bad rep for being "self centered" etc etc, but i just don't agree. to me, leos are just very good at individuality. when people meet you, whether you realize it or not, people likely remember you as someone unique in one way or another.

this is a great ascendant to have (regardless of with changbin or not), BUT i think this is a really good match! i def think changbin would be drawn to those qualities.

your sun in cancer:

cancers bring such a loving energy into the world and really do want to heal the deepest parts of people's souls. you likely channel this into your personality as well. you're probably very sweet & kind, but with that leo placement, and just the general nature of cancers to get hurt easily, you could actually be a bit guarded on the outside. there's the possibility that people may even be intimidated by you or just completely misunderstand you until they ACTUALLY get to know you... and when they do, they realize they've met a super warm and caring person.

in a relationship with bin, you'd be able to provide a lot of love and affection that, let's be honest, binnie loves. you probably understand this and will be willing to give it to him. he also brings passion and fun into the relationship, which makes you feel loved and taken care of as well. one thing i will say though is to be careful that this doesn't turn into a co-dependency situation. it could be that changbin NEEDS to keep hold on you so that you will fill his need for adoration and assurance. and as a cancer, you like to feel needed. so it COULD be a problem if you don't work on it.

this is one area that will have some upsides and some downsides. i think on one hand, you will both be able to bring new persoectives to each other. on the other hand, you both do have fundamental differences in emotions. with your emotions, you tend to be ALL in. you have gotten comfortable with emotions and knowing that you feel them strongly. this isn't exactly the case with bin. in fact, he may struggle with it from time to time. this is something you'd really have to work with him on.

your mercury in cancer:

with both mercuries in cancer, it's likely that even if you do have differences in who you are as people, the way that you go about thinking about and communicating it to the other is the same. so usually, you do really understand and are receptive to where the other is coming from. the only problem i see here is that cancer tends to be a gentler sign- no one would really be forcing you to talk about the hard things in a relationship, which could lead to some troubles moving forward.

your venus in gemini:

you are probably a super fun person in the bedroom, and i see that being a good thing for binnie, although you MAY have to introduce him to things at times. bin is probably a guy who hasn't explored many kinks. he probably is more dominant in the bedroom, but that's about it. gemini is naturally curious, so it wouldn't surprise me if you wanted to explore a lot of different fun activities. i think this would be good for bin to be pushed to branch out and explore different options, but you would be the push he needed. he may actually be hesitant at first, BUT, i think with your matching mercury cancers, you'd be able to communicate with him that it's about bringing you closer and connecting more, which i do think he'd be open to.

Understanding Gender Identity (article with a long list of definitions, go through and tell them what to start with to understand you and the situation better; there’s a beginning part too, though I feel it’ll be too confusing to start them off there)

Transgender Brain and Gender Identity (article discussing some improvements in transgender research and providing hope for trans people’s future I’d think, it’s a little wordy and an excellent read methinks)

GC2B (for my AFAB friends, this is probably the highest quality chest binder you can get and wearing a thin top under or wearing it inside out should help with any sensory issues, also since it’s made by fellow trans mascs they know how to not hurt our bodies; transitional gear is an excellent way for a loved one to support you if they can afford it; DO NOT go a size too small, don’t even risk it, they don’t work the way bras do)

Transguy Supply (also for AFAB friends, this I mostly trust for packers and packing boxers, and again transitional gear is an excellent way to support you if it can be afforded; do your own research for packing so you and your loved one are on the same page or at least you’d be able to let them know)

Menstrual Boxers (last one for AFAB friends lol, specifically for y’all who menstruate; this is such a dysphoria reliever for me as it feels like men’s underwear and I don’t have to really worry about “protection” for a little while, they also have regular “girl” boxers that can help you find a middle ground of sorts with the person you’re coming out to for a bit, just to ease into it)

Bra Resource (now for my AMAB pals, unfortunately I’m not skilled here as I myself am a trans man so I want to do my best here anyway: here is an article written by a trans woman with her bra experience and has varying other articles that I’m hoping will help you and a loved one out to pick one out for you as, again, transitional gear is an amazing way to support you if they can afford this type of gesture)

Tomboy X (from compression tops to packing boxers to adaptable bras to gaffs, y’all are set to go with just about everything here they do their best to relieve everyone’s dysphoria—def look at the reviews for things for a better judgement)

TransTape (skin-safe “tape” that can be used for packing, binding, and tucking; I think binding with TT is safer than with a binder since it’s not actually compressing, don’t quote me on that though; READ THE INSTRUCTIONS before use, please don’t hurt yourself)

Reminder that while it’s not your responsibility to do all the education for them, it’s important to push them in the right direction, at least to give them reliable sources. Make sure to look at the sites, read the articles, and watch the videos either before your coming out or do this with them so you can pick and choose what you want to narrate in your own experiences. Stay cool and be safe! Feel free to reblog with other sources, tips, anything you want to add!
