ੈ♡˳·˖✶ — NANAMI x FEM READER
Gojo sets you up with your future husband in the middle of English class.

tags — Gojo’s annoying ass, stay at home husband Nanami, title from manga of the same name
Tumblr media
“Honey, I’m home,” you call.
Immediately, Nanami comes to the door clad in his pastel yellow apron with little ducks. It matches his hair and complements his pink dish gloves perfectly.
“I’d hug you but I’m a little dirty at the moment,” he says.
“Who cares?” You wrap your arms around him to his spluttered protests.
When he falls suspiciously silent, you look up to see what’s wrong. You follow his soft gaze to the ring on your finger, your arms still looped around his neck.
“You know I hate owing Gojo anything, but I really am grateful for this one,” he says, leaning down to kiss your cheek.
It is thanks to Gojo that you got married, after all.
In high school, Gojo Satoru was a menace who loves meddling in your love life. He treated you like a little sister, which meant he was also comfortable doing whatever he wanted to you without consequence.
You should’ve known better than to trust him, but he piques your interest when he asks, “Hey, you know Nanami from our econ class?”
“I do not dream of labor Nanami?” You ask.
“All jobs are shitty, this is just slightly less shitty Nanami?” Chimes in Yuki across the table.
“Even when I’m asleep the only thing I think about is money Nanami?” From your side, even Utahime is interested in the conversation, a rarer occasion than a eclipse.
“That’s the one!” Gojo beckons you closer. Of course, you stay right where you are, because you don’t trust him. He crooks his fingers at you again, coaxing, “Come on, come on. Don’t you trust me?”
“Absolutely not.”
“Fine, have it your way,” he says, rolling his eyes. Then, at a volume completely unnecessary and loud enough for everyone within a five mile radius to hear, he all but yells, “You would like Nanami! I’m setting you two up.”
You would slap him, but he’s faster, catching your arm like he anticipated the blow. He probably did.
“Gojo, what the fuck?!” You hiss.
“Shhh, I’m doing you a favor! My two most boring friends, one ambitious, one indolent - you two are a match made in heaven.”
You squint at him. “Isn’t Nanami the top of our class? He works harder than anyone else, I don’t know what you’re saying.”
“Okay, but it’s not because he wants to. He hates working, he just wants to live comfortably. You see where I’m going with this?”
You really, really don’t.
“God, do I have to spell everything out for you? I really am a blessing to you poor-“
“Gojo.”
“Fine, whatever! Let’s do the math. You want to become a CEO or something, I wasn’t really paying attention when you told me about it. Nanami wants to be a live in housewife who’s only job is to cook, clean, and love his partner. One plus one equals two, he can be your housewife.”
“I can be what now?” You refuse to turn around, like if you can’t see him, he’ll go away eventually.  He must’ve been summoned by Gojo’s annoyingly loud volume.
Gojo has no such shame. “Perfect, I don’t even have to go looking for you! I’ll leave you two to it. Use protection or actually don’t, so you can give me godchildren!”
He dodges your attempt at murder for the second time and skips off, humming to himself. You’re never speaking to him again, you resolve. Nanami’s presence looms at your back, stiff and uncomfortable. How do you break the ice?
“You…don’t have to be a househusband,” you offer. That is not the way you wanted to start your introduction, but for some reason your mouth won’t stop moving no matter how much you beg yourself to shut up. “We can be double income, if you want, but I’m sure I can make enough for both of us.”
You’re silently begging the ground to just swallow you up to escape your earthly torment when he laughs. It’s a pretty thing, not like bells or wind chimes as the books describe, but beautiful nonetheless.
He smiles down on you as he says, “I’m okay being a househusband if you’ll have me.”

Rain hadn't made its appearance this month; worrisome for a city like Gotham where rain seemed to be a permanent fixture.
You couldn't remember a night without rain in the past three years, or such a hot morning for that matter. So this was a first in a long time, therefore you were somewhat unprepared.
It was your fault for not checking the weather app the night before and it was the climate's fault for not giving you a truce. Although if you were to go there, we all knew the actual people responsible for the changing climate — for most problems, to an extent.
You left the bed slowly, trying not to make noise. Damian was awake already, probably training, yet you didn't want him to know you were too.
His help was always welcomed, and treasured, and he gave it with joy and ease. You hadn't imagined he would be as thoughtful or patient — you knew him to be kind, definitely nicer than he pretended to be, but this was different.
He took it so seriously, too, consulting people whose actual job was to be caregivers had been his first move and you were a tad ashamed to admit it shocked you. A part of you had wanted him to do it, but you expected him to simply read a book and go from there. And read he did, but he didn't stop there; you didn't understand how at the time.
You understood why: he loved you. But the how was elusive with everything he had on his shoulders. It would have been so easy for him to simply pay somebody to take care of you and go on with his routine, but it seemed that the thought never crossed his mind.
Showers were a little easier now that you lived with him and got to use a bigger bathroom. You tried not to rely on the shower bench too much in the mornings, partially scared you would get sleepy too early.
Damian was back from training by the time you were about to choose a pair of shoes. His hair was damp and apart from his shoe-less feet, he was ready for work too.
"You should still take a jacket."
"I hate carrying things around."
He pinched his nose. "I will take it with me, then." At your questioning look, he added, "I will be picking you up from work today."
"You don't have to. Caroline likes driving me home."
Caroline was your favorite coworker and it wasn't just because she would eat lunch with you and drive you home from work. She was just pleasant to be around, never overbearing when it came to your symptoms, and the only one who kindly woke you up after your scheduled naps.
Damian sat next to you on the grey loveseat. He picked up the top you had decided against and folded it, something you had never been able to do without a surface. "I just want you to be ready for Friday."
"I am ready, Damian."
"Fine." He leaned to kiss the side of your head.
════════════════════════
You sometimes wondered if driving was really all that fulfilling. It seemed stressful from the passenger seat. Or maybe those were your nerves speaking.
Turns out you weren't ready for your medical appointment on Friday.
"Do you want me to go in there with you?"
"I think so."
You knew how lucky you were that you had a partner who was willing to do this, somebody who cleared his schedule for your comfort. Damian must have been aware that doctors took him more seriously than they did you, or that they only believed the things you said once he corroborated them or added more details.
He opened the door for you and offered his hand to help you out of the car. You took it without a second thought, not trusting yourself or the wonky pavement underneath.
Damian rested his hand on your lower back, steadying you as your wobbly legs carried you into the building.
Bouts of pain generally made their appearance when you had appointments. Out of stress, the doctor explained. It made sense, but along came drowsiness and you wished you could simply skip one appointment or two from time to time.
Of course you never said as much. It would be pointless, honestly; Damian would simply force the doctor to see you at home and the same stress, drowsiness, and overall tiredness would keep their chokehold on you.
You always spoke more when Damian was there, and when you struggled to remember something, he filled in the blanks. He carried your tracker with him, and the diary he had started on his own for good measure. The doctor always asked if he was taking care of himself too — you used to hate the question, seeing it as a reminder that you didn't really do a good job taking care of him in comparison to what he did for you; it took a long tearful conversation with Damian for you to understand he would always ask for attention if you weren't doing a good job at providing it.
"We have different needs," he had said in that incredibly infuriating yet attractive matter-of-fact tone of his.
The elevator traveled up smoothly, barely rattling when it landed on your floor. Damian let you out first and as quickly as you crossed the doors, his hand was already back on your body. It was almost a reflex of his, he did it even when you weren't in pain, a simple 'I'm here'.
You sighed in relief as you kicked your shoes off. As comfortable as they were, they were still restricting. Damian put the keys on the console table and before you could sit on the bench next to the table, he wrapped an arm around you and coaxed you into your shared bedroom.
The sheets had been changed that morning. The faint aroma of fabric softener lingered just enough to avoid a headache. Your sleeping clothes were neatly folded on the bench in front of the bed, with the basket Damian always kept full of snacks and where he hid notes for you to find.
His notes varied from encouraging words to doodles. with fragments of poems in between both extremes. You had taken the habit of texting short messages to him in return, sometimes silly things when you knew he would have a stressful day; other times reminders of how much loved him.
Your text chain would be incomprehensible for anybody but yourselves. You liked them. You liked that despite everything, you had that silly thing to laugh about, something mundane just for you and him.
Eyeing the clothes, you twisted your mouth. Your back was killing you. "Would you... help me?"
Damian dropped his cell phone onto the bedside table, still unlocked, white glare signaling he was in the middle of drafting an e-mail. "Hold onto something."
You did so, letting him take care of the rest. Not only did he take your pants off, which was the most painful part of getting changed this particular day, but guided your legs into a pair of cotton sleeping shorts one by one. You didn't even ask him help with your top yet Damian gently sat you on the bed and instructed you to lift your arms so you could wear your matching set.
Both of you undid the bed, he let you arrange your pillows to your need and only went back to pick his cell phone back up once you assured him you were comfortable. He handed you the remote, placed a bottle of water near you, and sat on his desk chair to continue whatever it was he was doing.
Your eyes grew heavy about 10 minutes into an episode of a show you started the past week. You had hoped you would hold on a little longer, maybe until Damian had to go.
"I will be back soon," Damian announced softly, prescription in his hand. "Do you want me to bring anything?"
"Some kind of dessert?"
He approached the bed. You braced yourself for a chastising reminder that you ate too much sugar sometimes. Damian leaned in and kissed your temple. "Take a nap, beloved, get some rest. I will wake you up when it's time for dinner."
════════════════════════
Some days, a dull ache woke you up, and trying to move became a whole odyssey. Breathing exercises worked well enough to give you the drive to try it again, but that didn’t mean you were always successful.
Others, you left the bed just fine just to find yourself needing to lay down an hour or so into your day.
Today, the sun was up in full, threading into the bedroom through the only slither left by the curtains. You had already texted your boss earlier to let them know you couldn’t go to work. You didn’t know if they had answered already or not.
You could hear pencil against paper, meaning Damian was sketching near the window.
“You’ll be late,” you reminded him.
He didn’t stop sketching as he answered, "I’m not going. My girlfriend is more important than a stupid meeting."
“Bruce—”
The mention of his father made him sigh, interrupting you. “He wishes for you to feel better soon.”
You grumbled. Both of them were as stubborn and you weren't about to waste your energy on fighting either of them right now.
“Do you want to change position?”
“I want to pee.”
Damian dropped the sketchbook and the pencil onto the sofa and walked toward the bed. Wordlessly, he helped you up and off the mattress.
You slowly made it to the bathroom, turning the light on just to be sure you wouldn't fall.
“Don’t close the door.”
“I know, Dami.”   You had been here many times before. He was always helpful, if not a little overbearing when it came to movement which you understood and often made things genuinely bearable.
Back on the bed, you drank water from your bottle.
Damian gave you that look that meant he wanted to say something yet knew it wasn't the time. You decided not to ask and laid down once again.
He handed you the remote in case you wanted to watch something, but the only thing you wanted was to sleep for a day or two.
Such an urge wasn't new, but you were kind enough to yourself not to ignore it when you could barely leave the bed.
"You should eat something."
There it was.
"Later," you pleaded.
You could almost hear him deflate. Still, Damian kissed your cheek and went back to the sofa, letting you try and get some sleep.
He would insist again later, no matter what you did, and you would probably get away with just having a smoothie. But you kept that to yourself, not only needing sleep out of tiredness but as a manner to pass the time.
Damian knew as much, he also knew there was nothing more he could do right now to help so he and his stubbornness focused on the sketch and only paused to watch you breathe.
════════════════════════
Panic coiled in Damian's stomach. Waking up to an empty bed at 5:00 in the morning was not only uncommon and worrisome, but one of his worst nightmares.
He always feared you would wander around the condo in the middle of the night only to fall asleep in an uncomfortable place or position, perhaps in pain, or both.
He padded his way along the hallway and checked the home office first. Your untouched desk, still donning the big water bottle he got you so you wouldn't use homework as an excuse for dehydration, wasn't as good of a sign as he hoped.
You weren't in any of the other bedrooms, nor the training room. He considered calling your parents, and as if you had visited them in the middle of the night; it wasn't insane to think you would miss your family. Yet his stomach sunk at the mere thought.
Had he done something wrong? Everything had been just fine before he left for patrol, you had even joked you would be awake waiting for him this time even though both of you knew you wouldn't last more than needed. He never expected such things from you, he didn't need them, a part of him didn't even want them because they would mean putting your health in jeopardy.
Damian found you in the kitchen. Sat on your stool, with your head tilted to the side and your mouth half-open, you read something on your phone.
He cleared his throat, but it didn't have its intended effect and you jumped. Your tired eyes bore into his and Damian almost sighed out of relief.
"Is something the matter?" he asked.
"It's Nicole's birthday."
He hummed. "You told me yesterday."
"I'm making her a cake. We have everything I need. Well, that's not true, but I can order everything else when the store opens and—" you interrupted yourself, frowning. You didn't like the way he was looking at you. "What?"
Inhaling deeply, he leaned his elbows on the island. Your eyes were on him and he would rather die than admit he was scared of upsetting you. He should have been past it, but he didn't know what to do sometimes. He couldn't simply forbid you from doing things, no matter how easy it might have made some situations in the long run.
"Wouldn't it be too extraneous?"
"Damian." Your 'are you fucking kidding me?' tone did nothing to placate him. "We have a stand mixer."
Right. The bulky ugly thing in the corner. He didn't mind having appliances on the countertops, no matter how bad they looked, it made things easier for you and that was all that mattered. He just specifically found the stand-mixer ugly.
"Just don't lift the bowl," he said, doing his best to not sound defeated. Your face lit up like a child who had just gotten just what they wanted for their birthday. "Call me when you're about to pour the batter. I'll do it."
Damian heard you opening and closing drawers and cupboards as he trained and although he paid more attention to the changing sounds than to what he was doing, he ended up drenched in sweat.
On his way to take a shower, he caught a snippet of the song you were humming as you moved around the kitchen and he could only hope your good spirit could last at least until noon.
The difficult parts never bothered him, nor doing the bulk of the work around the place. It wasn't like he did everything, the cleaning service came three times a week and you always left things as tidy as possible. But even if he had to do it all, he wouldn't be bothered.
He felt normal like this, useful. He liked doing things for you just like he had liked doing things for his mother when he was a child. Back then he thought that was what a man was supposed to do, protect, and provide to an extent. He didn't seek gender affirmation anymore, and he knew now he hadn't done anything for his mother out of a manly instinct; he simply loved her.
Much like he loved you albeit in a different way. Damian couldn't fathom himself without loving you, without being there for you. He had been born to fight and he had been reborn to care for you.
It wasn't always easy, he was the first to admit it. He didn't know what it was like to be in your shoes, he had no idea the kind of pain you were in or how heavy the fatigue you had to bear on your shoulders felt. He just hated that he couldn't take any of it away, that as much help as he could give, there should have been something more to do.
He grew tired sometimes. And you were oh so sweet about it, telling him to get some rest, pretending you didn't need help to get out of bed in the middle of the night just so he would go back to sleep. But Damian only slept well when you were comfortable, when things were normal to the standards you both had accorded.
At first, he had planned on being as strict as possible, to take care of everything so you wouldn't have to do anything. It didn't last. He couldn't live with the guilt that washed over him every time your face fell when he stopped you from doing something.
Learning to compromise had been the hardest thing he had done. And now here he was, about to bake a cake with you because it was your best friend's birthday.
He would do anything you asked him. It was a well-known fact about him. That meant indulging you sometimes, accepting things his brain told him weren't a good idea.
The loud stand-mixer greeted him back into the kitchen. You had a spatula in your hand, attention solely on the rotating flat beater.
"What were you going to do if I weren't here?"
You didn't speak until the mix was fully incorporated and the mixer was off. "Use a spoon."
"A spoon."
"Yes. Scoop little by little..."
He chuckled. "You are precious."
════════════════════════
"Take a break."
Damian had already walked away from you when you lifted your head to face the doorway. It wasn't an uncommon interaction. If you could call it as such.
Before you could even think to stand up, he was back with an unbreakable glass full of water. He set it on your desk, knowing full well you got nervous when people handed you things.
"I'm never finishing this," you sighed in frustration.
He stared at you, then at the glass. Once you picked the glass up and took a sip, he spoke, "Is it too difficult?"
"I can't focus. I'm not even halfway into the stupid paper, but I feel weird."
"Weird?"
"Like there's static in my head."
He nodded as though he understood. You both knew he didn't, not really.
"When is it due?"
"Monday."
You knew what he was thinking, 'What kind of professor would ever do that?' and the answer was quite simple: your least favorite professor.
Instead of asking anything about the awful faculty member of your college, he said, "We could do it this weekend."
"I'm not letting you do my homework."
"I have no intentions of doing your homework. I will help you focus, you will do it yourself."
"I had plans for our weekend."
He looked at you as though you had grown a second head. Plans weren't really a thing for both of you, not in the strict sense — a routine was needed, and medical appointments were non-negotiable, but apart from that, the mere idea of making plans was avoided.
"That movie you said looked interesting is on VOD. I thought we could watch it."
He visibly relaxed. Crisis averted. "We can watch it once your homework is done."
"You have things to do at night."
"Before patrol, beloved." Damian put his hand on your shoulder, leaning into your personal space to rest his head on top of yours as he continued making plans, "We will do your homework then take a nap, have lunch, watch the movie..."
You welcomed his touch, pressing your back to the chair just to have him a little closer. "Yeah?"
He hummed, nuzzling into your hair. "It will be a good weekend."
════════════════════════
Damian ignored your greeting as he crossed the bedroom to enter the bathroom. You heard the water running and decided to let it go, going back to the notes you had taken earlier. You had a note-taking system now, after many trials and errors, but that didn't mean things always stuck.
In all honesty, you were doing your best not to fall asleep. Between the sound of the water and the cozy blankets you were under, the words started to jumble. Your heavy eyes were begging to close and you almost gave in, but the bathroom door opened and Damian caught your attention again.
He sat on the bed, glanced at your notes, then turned to the side to put his phone to charge.
"Bad day?"
"Terrible."
"Do you want to talk about it?"
"No." He laid on his back, facing the ceiling.
You couldn't help the sigh that escaped you. "Is there anything I can do for you?"
"Just be here."
You removed your notes from the bed. "I'm here."
He shifted to rest his head on your shoulder. The conversation was over. The awareness that came with living with him was different from anything you had experienced before, and his vulnerability was different than anyone else's.
You didn't think he was scared of it, not when it came to you, but he wasn't fond of it either. It wasn't difficult to see why. But you liked how it manifested, almost as second nature.
You almost cried the first time he swallowed his pride and admitted he couldn't understand what you were going through. He saw it, he paid attention to it, but he couldn't feel it. And it was so worth it, enough for you to understand truly what you meant to him.
If Damian was somebody else, or if he loved you any less, that would have been the first and the last time he admitted to not knowing everything.
You took his hand, bringing it close to your face. You kissed his bruised knuckles, careful not to move the bandage.
He sighed. Damian shuffled on the bed to lay on his side, head on your shoulder as he let you hold his hand for as long as you wanted.
Putting your free hand on the back of his head, you buried your fingers into his damp hair. He nuzzled into you, barely humming to assure you he was comfortable.
For the first time in your entire relationship, he fell asleep before you.

Can’t Make Any Promises pt.2
a/n: once again i just kind of got carried away with my writing but for all my peeps that wanted a second part
Tumblr media
Trevor
Jamies sister had left, leaving him to be the one to tell his best friend what exact he had just asked of his older sister. Not that it really mattered because she had said yes for the first time in all the times he had asked. Plus it wasn’t a secret that Trevor had been crushing on her, he never hid his flirting even when Jamie was around but he wasn’t sure if Jamie understood that it’s not just his usual flirty self that he was pretty sure he had actual feelings for her.
When Jamie pulled in Trevor definitely felt slightly more nervous than he had a hour back. “Hey man, did my sister pass by?” Jamie asked and Trevor nodded his head. “She sure did, she already headed out but actually I did want to run something by you real quick.” At that Trevor cleared his throat, the nerves coming up. “You asked her out on a date again, didn’t you?” Trevors jaw dropped a little. “She told me all the other times you did. I’m guessing she finally gave you a yes?”
Trevor just nodded his head, was his best friend about to hate him now. “I mean I’m cool with it but if you decide you don’t like her and break her heart we’re going to have a problem.” Well that was comforting at least but Trevor wasn’t really worried about that. Now he just had to get ready for this date.
Readers P.O.V
You knew that Jamie wouldn’t be too bothered by it. Your brother had actually told you a few times before to give Trevor a chance and your only excuse was the age thing which shockingly he also did not understand. Maybe it was a guy thing. Anyways now you were getting ready for this date and you had to admit you were a little excited about it even if that small insecurity was still sticking in the back of your mind.
When there was a knock on your door you knew it was time to go and you had decided on a casual but cute outfit since it was just dinner and a movie. When you opened the door you were a little surprised at the fact that Trevor was there holding a small bouquet of flowers. “I stopped and got these for you. If you’re allergic or hate them though I can just toss them.” There was an edge of nervousness to his voice and you thought that was cute. “No, they’re beautiful thanks.”
The dinner had gone a lot better than you expected and you two talked about a variety of different things. It was actually pretty nice to talk to Trevor one on one without your brother there. The conversations were a lot less about hockey which you slightly appreciated. You had to admit this was one of the best dates you had gone on in a long while. The movie part was just as good except you craved talking to him a little more but because of the movie you weren’t able to.
It was pretty disappointing as the night came to an end because it had been a good time and now you were both standing on your front porch. “So any chance there could be a second date?” Trevor asked and there was a hopeful gleam to his eye. A small sigh left your lips “Trevor this was really nice but this still doesn’t change where we are in life. You’re young and you still have your party phase left and I’m just not there anymore, I’m more in the stage of settling down.” You wished that it could be a different story but you knew it wasn’t.
“Who says I’m not ready for all that same stuff. I had to grow up fast and I’m not some college kid. I have a secure job, I pay all my own bills, and I’m not looking to be out at some frat party every night. It’s a four year difference between us that’s it.” A sigh fell from your lips again and you knew he meant every word he said. “If you’re serious about it, I’d like to keep seeing where this could go.” You whispered to him and a small smile filled his lips. His hand went gently to the side of your cheek “Can I?” He asked and you nodded your head. He leaned in and gave you a gentle kiss before pulling away. “Maybe tomorrow you can come over? I’ll cook us both dinner. Your brother already has plans so it’ll just be the two of us.” You nodded your head a second time, looks like there would be a second date after all.

I just have so many opinions on how teaching, specifically, would be way better if we didn’t try to make one adult manage an entire classroom.
Picture an elementary school, kindergarten through fifth grade, with, for the sake of simplicity, one class per grade. The way this is normally done, you have a teacher and maybe a teacher’s aid per class, and if the teacher can’t come in you bring in a substitute who isn’t attached to that school and who only works when someone calls in sick.
This is absolutely wild. That sort of thing makes perfect sense for college students who can manage their own lives, it makes no sense whatsoever for five years olds, many of whom are also going to spend all afternoon in after school care and not actually get one on one adult attention until their parent/s are off work. And if your parents suck or are exhausted after working all day? Sucks to be you!
Kids spend the hours of a full time job plus commute time in these institutional environments. It’s not good for people! People talk as though school is good for kids’ social skills just because they’re in proximity with other kids, but schools are highly artificial environments and it’s not normal or good for kids to not really get attention or advice or emotional support from anyone older who’s got life slightly more figured out. For hours at a time, days at a time. Kids need an adult’s full, caring attention now and then and to get it about things that matter to them, not just things that matter to the adult. And schools as they are now make that more or less impossible.
And of course the working conditions are brutal for the teachers. The work can be relatively rewarding because you’re working with kids and you know it’ll make a huge difference if you don’t show, but it’s demanding as hell and there’s a lot of pressure to not call in sick unless you absolutely have to, and there’s no time and you spend a lot of time being a disciplinarian rather than, you know, teaching.
What if the same school, instead of having six teachers (one per grade), had eight or nine? Six teachers each assigned to a specific class (although I imagine it’d be fun to switch it up now and then, and probably better for the kids so you get some year to year adult continuity) and two or three floaters. One’s with say the kindergarteners in the morning before recess (while the kindergarten teacher does some lesson planning or something, or maybe they co-teach if the kindergarten teacher would rather do that), the first graders recess to lunch, and the second graders from lunch to the end of the day. On a normal day. But maybe the first grade teacher has a headache that isn’t going away, and he could push through it but he doesn’t really want to and he especially is worried the pain might make him short tempered and he doesn’t want to lose his patience with the kids. So the floater goes “cool, what were you planning on doing?” and the first grade teacher either passes on the plan or suggests something else, and gets to go lie down in a dark quiet room for a couple hours.
(Would this cost more? Yes, almost a third again or half again as much. (Not quite that much because under the current system you do need subs sometimes.) Is it not worth it though?)
Now picture this. Two or even three teachers per class. I imagine a lot of current teachers would hate the idea of having to split a classroom, but I imagine there’s way more potential teachers who could work in a system like this who can’t function under the current one. For one, it lets you split up roles more, maybe one teacher is great at getting large groups of kids to sit down and pay attention so that teacher can do that, and the other teacher/teachers can focus on what they do best, which might be eg explaining fractions in a one on one context so that the kid who is really just not getting fractions can understand them. You know, teaching. And it would allow for a lot more diversity in subject matter teaching and style of teaching in one setting; maybe one teacher prefers lecturing but manages to do it in a way that gets the kids to listen and be interested, like the teacher is revealing ancient secrets to a select few. And another one is really good with setting up learning-by-doing situations. And one has a gift for making up silly songs that get the kids engaged and help them remember things.
And maybe you also have one counselor per classroom, one person whose job it is to look out for learning disabilities and the like and to look for why a kid who’s acting up is acting up and to be available when someone’s having a bad day and needs someone to talk to or conversely is so excited and happy that they really can’t just sit still and listen until they’ve had a chance to share why they’re so happy.
And surplus teachers would still be good in the grades where kids go to different classes based on subject. You’re teaching social studies, but you’re the one who really loves getting into ancient Egyptian and your partner teacher is the one who really likes covering current events. You’re teaching math, but you’re the one who loves math conceptually for it’s own sake and your partner is the one who’s good at typing it to the real world. Or you’re good at explaining things in a way that work for some of the students and your partner is much better at getting those other students who are just lost and frustrated with your approach. And any time a student just doesn’t want to be in the class, they can go to one of the professionally trained counselors or one of the community ambassadors who don’t have to have professional training (beyond, like, this is how we do things here/this is our sexual abuse policy/whatever) but can keep a kid company and keep them out of trouble when the kid doesn’t want a counselor but also just can’t stand being in the class another five minutes and also legally can’t be left without some sort of adult supervision. And if the teacher really doesn’t want a specific kid in the classroom for another five minutes because the kid is acting up, the teacher can kick the kid out without it being a disciplinary thing. You’re not in trouble, but you also have to leave the classroom until you stop being disruptive.
and if the teacher has a headache and doesn’t want to be around any kids, well, you have a partner. And if both of you want to be out, well, there’s got to be someone in a different class who can step out for a bit.
This would cost so much more than the current system.
But wouldn’t it be worth it?
And as a society, would it actually cost us more? We have more or less the same number of adults capable of working full-time professional jobs regardless of what they’re doing. If there were somewhat fewer adults say working to add short video features to social media apps or find new ways to squeeze money out of people playing mobile games, and instead in schools working with kids, would that be a bad thing for society?

Please for the love of god how do u get a job at the library (also is your url stormblessed as in Kaladin bc FUCK YEAH)
First of all: YES Kaladin is thee character of all time he is my everything and Brandon Sanderson actually personally told me that he is aroace. So.
Second of all: OKAY I’ve got you friend. So getting a job at the library is largely going to depend on what kind of job you’re looking for. Unfortunately the more higher-paying full time jobs are going to require some degrees (usually a Masters in library science aka MLS) BUT there are way more options if that’s not feasible for you.
The easiest job to get at your local library is probably going to be a page position, though they’re sometimes called other names. These are your employees who check in books, organize them, and re-shelve them, as well as pulling holds and doing other odd jobs around the library (every library has a slightly different structure, so some duties may be distributed differently in your area!) Sadly it pays basically nothing, less than most fast food jobs, but literally anyone over the age of 16 can get hired and you need no experience or anything like that. It’s a great position if you’re not a people person (there’s very limited interaction with actual patrons!) Plus lots of people start from here and work their way up the proverbial food chain in their library. You’ll find lots of these positions open basically all the time because the turnover rate is so high, and it’s great if you’re looking for an easy, relaxing, low-stress part time gig that gets you real experience working in a library.
If you want a step up from pages that still doesn’t require a degree, your next option is a circulation assistant. These are the people who work the front desk (in adult or children’s sections), answer phones, help out customers, and deal with collection stuff that’s above the pages’ access/pay grade. Most of these positions are part time but some are full time! It pays more than pages- still not that much but depending on how many hours you work and which library system you’re in it can all depend. If you’re more open to customer service but don’t want to deal with food or retail it’s a good option, and it’s another stepping stone to higher positions with the added experience!
I would also recommend seeing if your local library has any special programs it houses that are hiring. Mine for example has a Makerspace area that has a 3D printer and cool machines galore, and those programs sometimes have full-time jobs available that don’t require a degree. Plus it’s a lot of fun.
(I will say that sometimes “””networking””” can be the key to getting hired in a library system. If you’ve been around the library a lot, whether it be volunteering or interning or working as a page or just being a memorable patron, if you know everyone’s name and are familiar with how the system works, it gives you a HUGE boost in the eyes of librarians. They also have a tendency to hire people just based on vibes, so if you’re just a super nice courteous cool person chances are you’ll get the job.)
Full time, higher paying jobs like reference librarians usually require an MLS but sometimes you only need a bachelor’s degree. It all depends on your library system. There are also soooo many different departments in the library that I’m not quite as familiar with (IT! Maintenance! Technical & collection services! Local history! Outreach! ILL! Children’s! Programming!) So if any of those are what really floats your boat I’d suggest doing a little research and seeing if it sounds like you!
Above all, the first step you can take is to just go to your local library’s website and check their job postings. It will (hopefully) give you way more accurate information than I’ve just rambled on about and give you a good place to start!
I wish you lots of luck, my friend. If you have any other questions about libraries I will do my best to answer them.

Survivor (Final Rose)
One of the more... complex statistics to interpret in countries like Vale was the unemployment rate.
Technically speaking, it was possible for almost anyone to get a job, provided they were willing to take risks.
Can you walk? Can you see? Can you carry a gun?
Congratulations and welcome to the Vale Frontier Corps.
Simply put, nations like Vale needed soldiers to deal with Grimm. The cream of the crop were the Vale Elites. They were basically special forces, not unlike the specialists employed by Atlas. The Frontier Corps was less about individual skill level and more about warm bodies and weight of numbers.
Put enough people with enough guns behind a wall and have them shoot at anything that vaguely resembled a Grimm, and you could deal with most of the random murderous crap that tried to slaughter its way through the frontier.
It was a win-win situation.
The unemployed earned a pay cheque, and the frontier got the defenders it needed to consolidate and possibly even expand.
Admittedly, that wasn’t always the case.
Sometimes, the murderous crap that showed up wasn’t the usual lesser Grimm rabble. Maybe instead of a couple of Beowolves an Ancient Beowolf showed up. When that happened, well, you’d better pray you had something more than the militia or the Frontier Corps around. Otherwise, you’d have a burnt out settlement and a whole heap of bodies.
On the upside, anyone who died serving in the Frontier Corps would put a permanent dent in Vale’s unemployment rate. After all, you didn’t count as unemployed if you were dead.
And there was always the chance of promotion. You could go into the Frontier Corps scrawny, illiterate, and ignorant as a rock. They’d train you, teach you whatever you needed to kill Grimm and handle a weapon, and put money in your pockets. And if you were good enough, if you lived long enough, if you showed that you were worth keeping alive, they’d keep training you, keep teaching you, keep putting more money in your pockets.
And one day you’d wake up as a captain in the Vale Infantry and wonder how the fuck that happened.
Or maybe you’d end up at Beacon and wonder, really, really wonder, how the fuck that actually happened.
“She’s kind of like a rat,” Diana said. “And I don’t mean that in a bad way.”
The dark-haired girl hunched over her food in a corner of the cafeteria was almost as scrawny as she was. She was practically inhaling her food while looking about furtively, almost as if she expected someone to try to take it away from her. Whenever someone passed by her table, she would palm the bread knife she’d taken as if preparing to stab anyone who tried to reach for what she was eating.
“I really don’t think you should compare people to rats,” Ruby said. “Although I can kind of see what you’re getting at.” Ruby paused. “Who is she? I don’t remember seeing her before.”
“Special intake,” Diana explained. “It’s second semester, so they’ve added some extra students. Ozpin wants me to keep an eye on them, see how they adjust to Beacon.”
“What do you know about her?” Ruby asked. The girl gulped down a full glass of milk and immediately reached for another glass that she’d prepared earlier. Her green eyes flickered over the cafeteria, eyeing up potential threats. Ruby quickly looked away, but Diana just smiled and waved. The girl hunched over her food even more, as if sensing the bottomless pit of hunger that was Ragnarok. “Diana, don’t just stare!”
“I’m not staring. I’m being friendly. Plus, she’s not stupid. She knows she’s going to be watched. I might as well let her know that I’m watching her. It might get her to relax and ignore the other three people that Ozpin has watching the newbies.”
“...” Ruby really wasn’t one for skulduggery and all that, but she supposed it made sense. Transfers from one academy to another weren’t unheard of, even to Beacon. But special intake implied something else, most likely unique circumstances. “I guess.” "Anyway, to answer you questions, her name is Erimentha Hill.”
“Hill?” Ruby’s brows furrowed. “As in the default name?”
Diana nodded. Orphans whose ancestry could not be identified were generally given placeholder surnames until they were old enough to choose their own. Hill was one such name. “Yep. She’s seventeen, and she used to live at an orphanage in southern Vale before she aged out of the system a year ago.”
“Wait... she would have been sixteen a year ago. Aren’t people allowed to live in orphanages until they’re eighteen?” Ruby asked.
“Technically, the age of majority, as it applies to orphanages and other public services, is sixteen in some parts of Vale. She could have tried moving to an orphanage somewhere else, but it’s unlikely they would have taken her. Based on her records, she struggled quite badly academically, showing little aptitude in any of her school subjects other than physical education. Because she didn’t want to end up on the streets, she volunteered to join the Frontier Corps.”
Ruby’s jaw dropped. “But... but that’s crazy!” The Frontier Corps was not a place for a sixteen year old. It was where the destitute and desperate went when they had nowhere else to go. Then again, based on what Diana had said, that kind of described Erimentha pretty well. “Did she at least have her Aura unlocked?”
“You think she’d go there if she could unlock her Aura? Of course, not. If you can properly unlock your Aura in the hunter sense, the regular army will take you, no questions asked. She didn’t unlock her Aura until half a year ago.”
“...” Ruby cringed. “How did... how did things go?”
“Well, she made it through boot camp pretty well. However, the settlement she was in was attacked pretty heavily not long after she was assigned. More than half of the Frontier Corps in that settlement were dead within a fortnight of her arrival. Reinforcements were dispatched, including multiple hunters, and the settlement was eventually salvaged. However, the campaign took three months, involved hundreds of casualties, and led the deaths of almost every single one of the original defenders. By the time it stopped, she was one of only five survivors from the original group.”
Ruby put her fork down. She no longer felt like eating. “Holy shit...” She wasn’t one to swear, but she wasn’t sure what else she could say. “It gets worse, doesn’t it?”
“You better believe it does. She unlocked her Aura and awakened her Semblance when the settlement came under attack again. And by attack, I mean an SSS-Tier Grimm showed up and started wrecking everybody’s shit. I’m talking exploding buildings, corpses everywhere, and the sort of firepower it would take to level a city. You might have heard of the incident. It was reported on the news as the Rosedale Incident.”
Ruby nodded slowly. The Rosedale Incident was the closest the frontier had come to being breached on a large scale in almost three years. The Grimm responsible had slaughtered its way through the Frontier Corps, the regular army, and several teams of hunters before being confronted by her Aunt Lumina and killed in a battle that had resulted in property damage that could be seen from space.
“She was on the frontlines for that fight. She was there when it started, and she was there throwing supporting fire down when my Aunt Lumina killed the Grimm that led the charge. The words bad ass do not even begin to describe it.”
“Yeah.” Fighting a SSS-Tier Grimm was insanely difficult. There were very, very few people on the planet who could do that and live, never mind win, and Ruby knew most of them. For someone to unlock their Aura and awaken their Semblance in battle against one and then actually live and contribute meaningfully to the fight was insane. “She must be really tough.”
“She is. I looked into her service record more closely,” Diana said. “It doesn’t look that impressive at first. She barely survives just about every mission she gets sent on. But that’s the thing. She survives. It doesn’t matter how hard the mission is, she always seems to find a way to survive. She might not be academically gifted, but she has the mind of a hunter, the sort of ruthless, maniacal cunning and ingenuity required to fight and survive against vastly superior opponents.”
“What are her powers like?”
“Her Semblance is codenamed Survivor. Basically, it’s a hyper-adaptive Semblance that is geared toward developing a diverse power set to help her survive. More importantly, it also allows for rapid increases in overall Aura abilities.”
Ruby’s brows furrowed. “Wait...”
“I know what you’re thinking, and the answer is yes. The closer she comes to death, the faster she grows. Moreover, she tends to develop powers - as in multiple abilities - to help her survive the situations she finds herself in. It’s not Ragnarok,” Diana said. “But it’s close enough that my Aunt Vanille ran some tests. Nope. Not related. But based on the progress she has already made, she will almost certainly hit SSS Tier in combat, provided she doesn’t get killed along the way or her Semblance doesn’t have a much lower cap than we’re hoping for. She’s at Beacon because they want to see how far they can push her.”
“Limitations?” Ruby asked. Adaptive Semblances were prized for a reason.
“Although her Semblance allows for a highly diverse power set, the powers themselves are individually much weaker than what a specialist would have. Let’s say she fights Yang a lot and Yang beats her almost to death repeatedly. She’d probably develop some sort of damage absorption or forcefield ability, not unlike what Yang has. However, it won’t be anywhere near as good as Yang’s. Her Semblance is called Survivor not Copier or Conqueror. It’ll be good enough to help her survive but not much else. The thing is if you throw her at Blake and Blake spams clones to murder her a bunch, she’ll probably develop some way to deal with that. Throw her at Jahne, and maybe you get a way to deal with mental interference. You get what I’m saying?”
Ruby nodded. “I do. But versatility matters, right?”
“It does. At the moment, Erimentha would be a D-Tier threat. That would make her one of the weakest students at Beacon. She currently has five distinct abilities via her Semblance, and each of those are equivalent to the Semblance of an F Tier threat. Let’s say that trend holds. By the time she is a SSS Tier threat, she’ll have an absolute crapload of abilities, but they’ll only be BBB Tier abilities. That doesn’t sound that scary at first... until you realise that she’ll have access to all of those abilities at the same time.”
Ruby’s eyes widened. “She can use all of them at the same time?”
“So far? Three at once, but that number will likely grow. And that means she can combine them, and we both know that even relatively weak abilities can be completely absurd under the right conditions. You could have a BBB Tier ability to create fire, but what if you paired that with a BBB Tier ability to create oxygen and a BBB Tier ability to amplify explosions? Suddenly, you’re levelling buildings and remodelling the landscape.”
“So that’s why she’s here?” Ruby asked. “They want to see how far they can push her ability.”
“Yep. If you want to get beaten almost to death in different ways on a regular basis, Beacon is the way to go.” Diana got up. “Wish me luck.”
“Wait, what?” Ruby blinked. “Why?”
“I’m going to say hello.” Diana began to amble toward Erimentha.
Ruby got up too, paused, hemmed, hawed, and then decided to just follow Diana.
“Greetings, fellow student!” Diana said, stopping in front of Erimentha and idly catching the butter knife the other student had thrown at her head. “I have come to keep you company.”
Erimentha just stared at her in disbelief. “What?”
“You looked lonely, so I thought I’d stop by.” Diana grinned and reached into her pocket before setting several candy bars on the table. “I also come bearing gifts.”
Erimentha pocketed the candy immediately. “I guess you can stick around...” She paused and looked about again. “So... you know how this place works, right?”
“I do.”
“Fill me. It gives me the creeps.”

Author’s Notes
Unlocking Aura is a colloquial way of saying that someone has mastered their Aura enough to actively use it in combat in the way a hunter would. It can be a gradual process or a sudden, often instinctive, evolution. Although all civilians can and do use their Aura to some extent, not all of them will be able to consciously use it the way hunters can.
Survivor itself is not related to Ragnarok. However, its similarities have led many people to take an interest in it. Erimentha comes into Beacon with five abilities, none of which are very strong yet, but together they provide her with a surprisingly decent power base, especially since she can grow her Aura and skills faster than most people. Those five powers are:
Minor regeneration
Minor accelerated combat processing and learning
Minor physical enhancement
Minor threat sensing that is not limited by line of sight
Minor pre-cognition that is limited to perhaps a second ahead of time
Individually, none of these powers is especially strong, but all of them are useful. Taken together, you already have someone who is difficult to hit, can heal when hit, and can rapidly learn how to better deal with an opponent. Since she can have three of these active at once, you can already see how annoying she would be to fight.
Give her better training, weaponry, and so on while throwing her against people who are stronger than her, and you could very easily get someone extremely deadly. That’s what they’re going for here.

I am 24 years old. So far, being in my 20's I have learned quite a bit. First off, you think you know anything about life, you're wrong. Especially when you are just becoming an adult.
Second, your 20's will not be the best years of your life. Literally everyone lied about it. Being an adult sucks, and it doesn't get better. You just learn to manage it better.
Your 20's are just your era to actually figure out what you're going to do with your life and who you are as a person.
Here's what I have learned so far about life and myself:
1) Coffee is my addiction and I have no plans on getting rid of it. If I could, I'd replace my blood with a cold brew.
2) I'm worth more than I have ever thought, and I only learned this because others valued me less than I should have been.
3) Milk is expensive. Gas is expensive. Paint is expensive. Existing is expensive.
4) No matter how appealing it is to hit someone, I would NOT thrive in jail. Even if they deserve it.
5) I have serious issues letting go of things. Physically, or emotionally. I hold grudges. And I keep shit I don't need. I actually have an entire box of shit from people I hate that I refuse to get rid of purely because I want to burn it, but I have no way of doing that safely unless I go up to my family cabin which is a hour away and has other members of my family there pretty much all the time and I'm not about that.
6) I want to be an extrovert but I genuinely hate people and I don't think that will ever change.
7) I got drunk and ate an edible once before a work Christmas party for a job I got laid off from a week before and went as a plus one for someone. Apparently people were highly concerned about me because I was talking so much.
8) People genuinely don't give a shit about what you're doing. More often than not, they find you amusing or slightly annoying. And they go on about their day. Do the weird thing you love, because it makes you happy. Even if you get weird stares. It's worth it.
9) I like cleaning and having things clean. But I hate having to clean. Having a clean space has scientific research behind it, stating that it helps improve your mental state. Do I know this very well? Yup. Do I actually keep my shit clean? Hell no.
10) Your mom will tell you that you're an adult and don't need a mother anymore and then when she wants you to do something you don't want to do, she will say, "I am your mother" to get you to do it.
11) My mom is the coolest person ever because she will vape THC with me (medical purposes duh) before bed and then sit on the balcony and laugh and giggle while staring at the stars with me. It is one of my favorite things to do with her and I really hate the fact that winter doesn't allow that.
12) Your shitty job that doesn't pay you a livable wage genuinely doesn't give a fuck about you. You can get better jobs with little to no experience that pay you well and offers decent benefits. Just quit applying to anything that focuses on customer service and the like.
13) Everyone is dead inside in Walmart. Everyone.
14) Promoting people who are being rude in stores (looking at you Karen) to use their words and ask for what they need is either going to get them to behave like an adult or royally piss them off. Either way, it's hilarious.
15) If you're starting off with nothing and money is tight, the dollar store has literally everything required to start up your kitchen.
15a) do not buy a can opener from the dollar store. It will break every time you use it. Spend a few extra bucks and go to Walmart or target.
15b) thrift stores sells random bundles of kitchen ware for like $2. I once found a $400 set of kitchen knives for $8 that just needed sharpened and CAME WITH THE SHARPENER.
16) If you can't afford to do something nice for yourself every once in a while like go get your nails done or a new pair of sneakers or whatever floats your boat, buy yourself that nice expensive toilet paper. Your booty deserves the best and it's relatively cheap compared to the other things you can't afford but love.
17) You can work on improving yourself, even if you don't have a therapist. Start asking yourself the hard questions you don't want to answer.
19) It is okay to be upset. It is okay to be angry. It is okay to be sad. It is okay to express them. What isn't okay, is forcing everyone to feel your emotions and make them everyone else's problems.
20) I have no idea what I'm doing most of the time, and I'm not sure I will ever really know but it's a vibe.
21) Remember to relax your shoulders and your jaw.
22) I am actually a pretty good looking person, but I prefer to be comfy and wear 'unflattering' things than to cater to other people's images of beauty.
23) Space heaters are way cheaper than using gas to heat your home. Electricity is cheaper than gas. Candles can also be used to heat but aren't as effective, but can be used if you have no power.
24) know your tenant laws. Record every conversation with your landlord, or office people anywhere you rent. They will screw you over just because they assume you don't know your rights. They differ for each state but they are there to protect you from sleezy landlords. Which is 99.99% of landlords.
25) Feeling crappy? Make sure your basic needs have been met. Food, water (not coffee), hygiene, sleep, and attention. That will probably solve your problem.
I had a whole point to this post today. I don't remember what it was at this point. Stay safe y'all, and take care of yourself ❣️

5:20am thought about him a little, but it hurts so much less now. I know my worth ❤️ also, my tummy hurts from that burger ig, but I will persist 🫡🧑‍🍳
Physical pain/ discomfort once again is being associated with wanting to be comforted emotionally really. If my stomach didn't hurt so bad, I probably would've slept soundly through the night. Plus the stomach achy feeling I think my brain confuses with anxiety/ nausea feelings, even though I think it's just my diet. Better diet = better physically = better emotionally/ spiritually.
My back really hurts too, so there's something else contributing to the generally anxious feeling.
8:41am I want to start waking up earlier I just need a good reason why tbh
4pm! He called me wow I'm kinda surprised bro it's like he was just waiting for a chance to get away from her 🤣 lmao. He was talking about getting a second job bc I guess this one is not giving him enough hours/pay welp. He still obsessed with how he looks and all he does is work, sleep, and go to the gym so what's new ig 😂 girly you already know you're straight so don't let anyone knock you off course 👑 haha he couldn't keep up so he left now he's trying to copy your grind 🤦🙄 he literally couldn't handle having a woman more successful than him that's literally balls crazy 😳
Anyway just got out of work so I'm a free woman! Going to change into my chill outfit and go soak up some sun! Oh and I also got free Thanksgiving lunch at work so yay! Let's keep the good vibes goingggg :)
8:23pm I have a fucking huge bag of kettle popcorn and I'm actually watching silence of the lambs now lol. Also PLEASE stop buying lobster from food trucks it's not WORTH IT. Pro tip I just need to learn how to do that at home 😂

I think I need a chiro.
My back has been at least part of my migraines for years. I need my insurance info to know if it'll be covered. I don't mind if all they can do is manual adjustment or whatever.
My girl cat woke me up this time; she was mad that I'm hogging the new bed all to myself. My boy was having seemingly the time of his life sitting on the corner quietly, not moving, the hours that I slept.
I'm so bummed that I didn't, at the very least, like, get the spilled ink cleaned up or something.
I didn't get to take all this garbage out--I got several larges boxes with the mattress and the pillows, plus the desk garbage, the regular garbage, and the used litter all need to go out. It's just been so goddamn hot out after work and it's three flights down hhhhhhhhhrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhh and I haven't needed to take out the household garbage for years so it's definitely an adjustment.
Maybe if it's so difficult to do during work, I should try taking just some of it tomorrow before work. Just some. Plus, if my migraine relieves, it'll be good to get outside. I meant to today, since garbage takes up so much more of the space proportionally. You couldn't pay me to go outside with a migraine. You never realize how much light actually gets through cloud cover until you have a migraine--it's worse when there is no cloud cover.
I was so desperate for steak today, I ordered dinner. The medicine didn't want to be neighbors with fries, so that's all I got to eat before it came right back up. The meal came with crab and a roll, and butter sauce, so naturally, I made a sandwich! That I didn't get to eat.....I had to put it in the fridge. I think I'm going to make a solid grocery run this weekend, get some cheese for my stuffed rice balls aaaannnndddd......idk, maybe frozen chicken? A bowl of cut fruit? I feel like I need to justify being a fancy bitch and buying cut fruit, but look, I'm one freaking person. There's no way I'm eating a whole pineapple, and a whole cantaloupe, and a whole honeydew melon, plus a whole pint of strawberries, a whole pint of blueberries, and a whole pint of raspberries and/or blackberries--that's generally the fruit mix I purchase. First, that's like, ten times more money than I would spend for the bowl. Second, ten times more food than I would purchase and reliably eat. The fruit bowl is proportionally more expensive than the fruit itself, but the overall investment is less money and less waste. It maths. Plus, naturally, I'm buying more ensure. I should get some granola bars to snack on, maybe some more applesauce packets, definitely some rolled oats, more oatmilk. I have to set aside some money for another smoothie box.
Now that I'm up, the neighbors are back at it with their obscenely loud music at nearly ten in the evening 🙄. Somebody went off with a drill as I was laying down and I groaned and they seemed to stop, so I appreciate that.
My sister was like "stop staring at screens" and I'm like "that's literally how I pay the bills". Now she's arguing with me that I don't have good screen hygiene: look. I have matte screen protectors on my phone and tablet, currently my only devices. The monitors for work are matte. The last time I had a migraine at work, I turned down the brightness to 25%. The brightness on my phone is regularly about 25% or less. My phone and tablet also have yellow adjusters that cycle throughout the day. I'm doing the best I can. I really believe it's more, I just got this mattress. My back is probably fucked from sleeping on the couch and piles of blankets. Plus, I've always had back issues--I first really noticed them...... what was it, 2017 when I got my first ever sitting-down job? I had another incident in 2018, after sitting on a cement floor for what my body thought was too long.

My daddy thinks I find him boring because I have so many problems with paying attention to him when we talk on the phone and sometimes in person... but like... that's not the case. I genuinely want to hear and process everything he says, but I'm so easily distracted and my mind jumps from thought to thought that I can't get sometimes even half of what he's saying.
I talked to my mom about it and she suggested that he ask me questions and keep me engaged. He asked if he should condense what he says and I'm like... I said "it's fine, I'll just try harder to focus." But the harder I focus on focusing, the less information I actually process. Next thing I know, I've zoned out for ten or fifteen seconds.
Like... I do this with my mom too. All the time. She said she recognizes when I'm distracted or zoning out, and has learned not to take it personally. Which I appreciate...
Idk, if I'm on the phone with him and I turn off all the lights and it's at night, I have a better time managing focus because visual stimuli aren't there to distract me. It helps but it isn't a fix.
At my old job, they wouldn't make me a cashier because they didn't think I could sit still and focus on the job. They worried I'd wander off and get distracted... which is absolutely fair tbh.
I think my ADHD (predominantly inattentive) has affected me a lot more than I realised. Like... I actively have to work hard to focus on literally any conversation I'm having. It isn't natural or easy for me. It is a challenge.
I'm constantly forgetting and misplacing things. I lose my phone all day every day. I forget to do things I tell myself over and over that I need to do. I forget to pay my bills so my mom helps me. I forget all of my therapy homework. Hell, sometimes I forget to eat and drink water.
Like, I'm surprised I did so well with D&D. Like, I think it was on part because I was very interested in D&D and the creative aspect. Plus, the DM is always engaged. Now, playing more as a character, it is very hard to stay engaged and I find myself instinctively going for my phone or losing track of what's going on. It doesn't help that it is online and not in person.
As a kid, my dad definitely kept us engaged and I love the roleplaying aspect of DND. It kept me interested.
When it comes to video games, I mostly find that my attention is best kept in shooters. They're fast-paced, they're stimulating, they're engaging. I love RPG's but I'm realizing that I'm constantly getting distracted and all the time need to re-read journals and check maps or I get lost, frustrated, and quickly bored. Like, I'll read the journal, close it, forget what I read, and then reread it again. Sometimes three or four times before it really sets in. I get really into a game at first, often times, but find it can be nearly impossible to actually BEAT the game. I have an entire library filled with games I started but never finished. If they were too complicated to learn quickly, or too difficult to progress and get that dopamine hit, or too long, I'd get bored and give up then go back to what stimulated me.
So... back to my daddy. I think I'm genuinely falling in love with him. But like... I hope the ADHD med I'm taking will help me focus better on conversations because that's a real issue. At my job, I'd be given instructions, and then around 50-70% of the time, I'd get distracted and forget what I was doing before I got from A to B, even if I constantly repeated the instruction in my head.
I honestly was so upset about my issues, that I literally went to my doctor and had my brain scanned for brain damage. But there was none... so...
Back to daddy. He said he'd try to meet me half way, which is so thoughtful. I'll try to lower distractions, and he will try to keep me engaged. I think that will help.

Deeper Blues | Yandere Merman x Reader
Yandere Merman x Reader
Tumblr media
⚠️[Warning: Yandere behavior and mindsets, general discard for civilian employees, violence, and death ]⚠️
You had been working at the Marine Magestics Company for a while now. Of course never really advancing past your position as an errand (girl/boy) you just kind of did whatever was asked. Because of that you happened to know how exactly to do everyone’s jobs so when someone got sick or oddly put out of commission you were summoned. You were almost certain some less than legal stuff went done here on an everyday basis. But what exactly were you supposed to do? If you left you’d not only lose the great pay for minimal effort but you’d also lose the ability to live without this company breathing down your neck. Plus where else are you going to get free trips to an aquarium like this.
“(Y/n)! Hey glad you could make it! I was sorried for a second that you would turn me down.”
“You're my boss, it wouldn't exactly be wise to do so.”
“Right. Anyway, here are the contracts you have to sign for this new position.”
“And paycheck?”
“Yes, yes the new paycheck. “
You bent down to a nearby crate to finish your reading and signing.
“Hey, this says a whole team ended up dying...What is the job again?”
“Ew you actually read that? Well fine just come with me, it’ll be easier to explain.”
Your boss led you past a multitude of safes and security measures before arriving at a tank big enough for an Orca surrounded by computers and testing equipment. For a moment as you neared the thick glass you saw nothing until you caught the blur of something swimming. Looking longer you eventually are able to make out what looks like a merman with teeth sharper than blades and eyes black and soulless-looking.
“This is what needs monitoring. This thing has killed off some of our best scientists with some kind of poison.”
“So you want me to take all their places.”
“Not exactly. We’re not willing to have to send another stack of millions to your family. You’ll just have to watch it. Monitor it. Feed it. Or don’t I honestly don’t care, just don’t die.”
At the same time you were given so much responsibility and yet none at all. You opted to use a shirt-gun to deliver this thing’s food. Looking over the now deceased scientist’s notes described how it was most likely a male, understood them to some degree, and had a strong dislike for the shocker. As expected they were conditioning him with electric shocks; no wonder he retaliated. You told yourself this would be your last result. In the hours of boredom where you weren’t allowed to have your phone books and random games were your entertainment. Sometimes you sat and watched him round his tank indefinitely.
“Hey, do you ever get bored of that?”
He stopped his speedy swim to turn and look at you. You perked up from your resting place. “Would you like that if I brought something?”
He continued to stare at you as if frustrated you broke the monotony of his routine. From there he slowly started back his circles around the tank.
True to your word the next day you brought a sinker, chucking it in the water. When he started trying to eat it though you realized he probably didn’t know what this was. So for a while you would try to use the devices inside to show videos of people using this toy. Sometimes he acknowledged it but usually he was too focused on whatever uses he wanted. One day though he did leave it on the only platform connected with his tank. Against your better judgement you scaled the stairs armed with only a fish. When you reached your foot to slide the toy to you, he appeared. Splashing and flashing those crazy teeth as he seemed to aim for your face. Anticipating this you smash the fish into his mouth carrying it through to push him back into the water, running back down when you had the sinker. It spooked you for a week, you couldn’t look at his curious gaze from the tank without being reminded of the sheer terror. But from time came growth and you went back up to the platform staying the furthest away and dropped the sinker once more. You turn to walk away but the splash of water on your back makes you stop. Looking at the settling water the sinker was returned. From there things got alot better.
Playing this game with varying toys and energy you found that this put you on better terms with the merman, who didn’t mind coming to the surface when you would drop a sinker or two. It became like muscle memory doing this even as you sat on the platform reading a book casually throwing the sinker. It was bliss, like having a new dog.
“I’m gonna kill it!”
The entrance of your sanctuary was brushed through by a disheveled man that had a knife. How he got past the safe you had no idea. All you knew was that this man was charging up the steps where you were sitting and the merman was hanging off of. You tried to speak to the man but all that happened was that you were lifted by the back of your shirt by this crazy man who was getting closer to the tank.
“Please! Mathew don’t!” Your boss had arrived with backup but you knew they wouldn’t make it before you got thrown in. Before you did, the man held you to his chest with one hand as he made a cut on your cheek.
“You’ll make a great sacrifice.” The force at which you were launched into the water burned the side of your face but the pain pailed in comparison as the water unpreparedly entered your lungs. Thanks to your swimming lessons you were able to cling to one of the sides of the tank. Inching along the sides you tried to ignore the splash of red that seemed to be spreading in the tank. It was a lot harder to ignore the bits of tattered clothes floating around the bloodied waters on your arms and hands; you began to panic. If those were in tatters than his flesh... You had begun to hyperventilate and let out a scream as it felt like something floating by nudged your back. Frantically you swam to the platform letting armed guards pull you out and to the hospital.
Thankfully they weren’t entirely heartless. Paid leave, paid medical bills, you were even offered to meet with the company therapists. Your boss had worriedly expressed how you’d never have to come back in again but you were both proved wrong. Apparently they had resumed testing on the merman and you were a key piece. Somehow they had gotten footage of you two playing and they figured you were their best way to go.
Seeing him again nearly made you faint he on the otherhand put his hands to the glass and the black of his eyes shrinked to the pupil of a yellow iris. He was what looked to be smiling, wagging his tail excitedly. They shoved you in a wet suit and pushed you into the water immediately triggering an even worse panic attack. Floundering helplessly the merman swims to your sinking body seeing that you can’t breath wraps his arms around you swimming to the surface, you were unconcious. When you awake you are floating in the tank with a warm hand on the small of your back. When you turn around the guards sit relentlessly calling out to you.
“They can’t reach us on this side of the tank. They can’t shock me either.”
The smooth sultry unfamiliar voice made you stop the back floating to shred water for yourself.
“You-you can talk?”
“Up until recently. Yes. My turn. What do they call you?”
“(Y/n). Yours?”
“You can call me Vain.”
—------
He’ll admit as soon as he saw you walk in and press your face to the glass he planned to eat you. You were just so much smaller than him and just out of reach doing whatever baseless things you were doing. When you continued to feed him with the gun that shot the fish he was getting irritated. He needed to eat a human and soon. It was becoming too hard to maintain his sentience, his intelligence. A trade secret of his people: the eating of a human for at least six month will result in losing the features. The only reason he lasted this long was because of his status but that wouldn’t matter if he didn’t get his hands on a human soon.
When you began your game he didn’t understand and he tried to figure it out. A sign that he wasn’t completely lost. This was great. Your human game had staved off the reversion only for a little while. When you first went to retrieve the toy and he nearly got you; he cursed himself he meant to speak but in an animal instinct opportunity to strike had appeared. From there he only meant to silently indulge in your presence so that you wouldn’t be hurt. IT almost felt if he somehow got closer to you his sanity wouldn’t escape him but with the only human left he figured he’d rather not try it. This was the best he’d felt in awhile. That is until that human came.
The entry of the insane human destroyed that peace. Hurting his new human and then trying to attack him. It was wonderfully convenient that this human was practically offering himself to be eaten. Now he’ll admit he was a little crass in devouring the corpse leaving hardly anything but he just totally deserved it. What he didn’t like was after filling his belly with the intruder he wanted to speak to you but your heart was going crazy. He wanted to hold you and show that he could talk, but the scream you let out when he went to support you. You were overwhelmed, he had read about this. So he let himself only monitor from a distance while you made your way back to the platform where the violent humans scooped you up.
He was purposefully letting his instincts run wild. You were gone and he was being poked and prodded at. He knows how the scientific method works. If he acts out enough they’ll bring you back no matter how hard you scream, they were just like that. When it finally worked you were in his arms and sleeping so peacefully. This felt right. He intended to make sure this would happen often. At least up until the Summer Solstice.
—-------
“We are relieving you of your work in this field.”
“Wait, what?”
“We’ll be moving you to work with the porpoise section. Speak a word and you know what happens.”
They shoved a box of all your things into your chest and pushed you away. They wanted to keep it subtle, escorting you out when they were authorizing a tarp to cover the tank. You went quietly, that's all you could do. Nodding at your apologetic boss who had been forced to take a back seat on intervention from the government.
Living out your days as though you’d never met Vain was kind of sad but it wasn’t awful. You could finally go to work without being triggered into another emotional breakdown.
You were paged like the rest of your coworkers, albeit last, but you figured this was some evaluation of some kind. But when you got on the call pleas of a guard asking for you to come. You were hesitant. Something wasn’t right but curiosity was an itch you just had to scratch.
When you arrived at the now opened safe and undone security doors you were almost ready to see blood pooled everywhere in some massacre-like way but you didn’t. Instead there was a man wearing a really exotic sparkling see-through suit with flowing white hair with red tips. They seemed to be packing a bag, you went up to them tapping them on the shoulder they turned around revealing glowing yellow eyed and a toothy smile.
“Hello (Y/n)! I’m so glad you could make it! We have to go soon.”
The stranger grabbed onto your wrist pulling you out the door.
“Wh-what!? Who are you?”
For a moment the man seemed to falter but recovered pulling you into their chest holding you close.
“It’s me, Vain! I know I look a little different now but-”
“Vain!? Your-you have legs! How?!”
His grip seemed to get tighter and his smile seemed forced.
“Something I didn’t tell you about me is that we have to eat humans to keep sane and sentient in general. Lucky for me I’m part of the royal family which grants me the power to switch from a tail with whatever I want. Only as long as I eat enough so-”
“Y-you ate them!?”
Suddenly there was a prick of pain in your arm and you could no longer stand up straight. Falling into the waiting arms of the merman you tried to get out your question “A-re yo-gon eat me?”
Laughing heartily he hoists you into his arm, bridal style. He kissed you on your forehead, your nose, and then your lips. You really shouldn’t have taught him what that was.
“No darling. Not you. I’ve chosen you to be my mate. I can’t wait until we get home.”

Mie, I’m begging for some Jean college au bf hcs - im literally so down bad for this man and the way you write men is just 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻
Absolutely, not a problem 😌 I saved this ask as a draft a while ago when you sent it, sorry for just now getting to it. Anyway, I love Jean with my whole heart, best boy, best boyfriend <33
King of forehead kisses, and not even just because of his height in comparison to yours; he just likes it. He likes the feeling of pressing his lips against your skin, and making you feel safe.
Brings you tea or coffee however you like it every day without fail. If he can get it to you in the morning before work/school then he’ll do that, if not he’ll meet you some time in the middle of the day to drop it off. Your own personal courier just for drinks.
He… has a thing for long(er) nails. He loves the feeling of them against his skin, even if you’re not scratching to apply pressure—just you holding his hand them grazing his skin is enough for him.
That being said, he will pay for you to get your nails done. Actually, he’ll pay for… almost anything you want, but the nails benefit him as much as they do you so feel free to ball out.
He never blowdries his hair because he doesn’t... know how to do the back of it. You did it for him once and he hasn’t stopped thinking about it since, but he’s also too embarrassed to ask you to do/style it again.
On the subject of hair, he does do his best to style it and take care of it, but he’s a sucker whenever you play with it. Sometimes he feigns like you’re messing up all his hard work, but he’ll literally crane his head into your touch. He loves it.
The first time he lays on top of you and you run your hands through his hair... top 10 most euphoric moments of his life. He tries to fight off the sleep threatening to take over him, but it’s futile. Give it 15 minutes at most before he’s knocked out like a baby.
Dogs love him. Anytime you’re in a park or just taking a walk and there’s a dog around, it’ll come up to him and he looks adorable leaning down to pet it. He loves dogs, too! So he’s always happy to stop and pet them. He’d be a 10/10 dog dad.
Has your name saved in his phone with two hearts at the end. Do not point it out.
Loves taking pictures together and if you guys are on a date, he’ll ask someone to get a picture for him. He just likes having them to look back on (and to send to his mom, later).
He doesn’t mind painting classes or videos or tutorials, but he hates paint by numbers kits. He claims that they have no sense of color theory and that it takes the originality and fun out of painting. Not to mention the quality of the paints isn’t great to begin with; all of which he takes very seriously.
It’s pretty cute actually, to see him get worked up over the paint kits. He claims that painting and drawing isn’t even something he takes “that seriously,” it’s just a hobby for him (one he’s insanely good at); but in moments like these, you can tell that he’s way more into art and art theory and history than he lets on.
Huge movie guy, from animated movies to martial arts movies, Jean is usually willingly to give anything a watch at least once. When he’s high, he can go on about his favorite directors and art styles and movie details for hours if you don’t stop him. It’s super cute. Just don’t bring up Moana, because he’ll start crying.
Arm around the shoulder kind of boyfriend for sure. It’s a casual way of keeping you near him and letting everyone know that you guys are together. Plus it allows for him to easily pull you into him for a quick forehead kiss when needed.
Listen. If you hug his arm, he’s on cloud nine. He tries to be nonchalant about it but he’s about three seconds away from his eyes rolling back in his head it feels that good to him. Bonus if you lean your head on his bicep a little—then he’s a goner.
He takes his bagels very seriously and believes that both you and him deserve nothing but the best quality bagels. He’ll grumble if a bakery gives you guys a less than favorable one and make a note that taking the long route to get to his favorite place is much more worth it.
Always makes you walk on the side furthest from the cars. If he notices you’re not, he’ll just shuffle behind you until he’s shouldering the street and you’re on the inside.
He grew up on a kind of modern ranch situation; not exactly all the way in the countryside, but not isolate from the city, either. Because of this, he knows how to ride horses, take care of smaller farm animals, tend to plants, and yes he knows how to use a lasso. You wouldn’t know any of that though, because he never ever talks about it. The only way you find out is when he takes you to visit his mom’s house for the first time, and she asks him for a hand around the place.
(He’s got a cowboy hat, too, but refuses to put it on. He got it when he was, like, nine, okay, leave him alone).
When he thinks you look tired, he’ll wrap his arms around your shoulders to hug you. It’s usually followed up with a kiss to your head, and a promise that you guys will go home soon and get food on the way.
He’s a really good cook. He just understands and flavors and pairings really well, so he doesn’t need a recipe to make something that tastes good; he just kind of knows what to add to get the balance he’s looking for.
Naturally, he’ll cook for you. Especially if he finds out that you haven’t eaten all day/in a long time. He doesn’t care if it’s 11pm and it might seem excessive to make steak and potatoes with a side salad at this hour, he’s gonna do it to make sure you eat, and you are going to sit there and watch.
He also bakes pretty well, though he isn’t as experimental with his baking as he is with his cooking. He usually sticks to what he knows, and it’s not cupcakes and brownies and cakes; he’s better at croissants, and cheesecakes, and canelés.
Dating Jean means getting along with his friends. If you guys didn’t know each other before you started dating, be prepared to be ambushed by Connie and Sasha (after Jean stops hiding you away and gives them the green light lmfao). Neither of them waste time with the small talk and formalities; straight into mini golfing and beer pong. They make you feel welcome right away.
Sasha always teases that you’re too good for Jean, and that she might just steal you away for herself some day. Sasha is also Jean’s main confidant, so she really knows just how much he loves you, and yeah, she teases him for being lovesick, but really she’s happy for Jean. And proud of him for facing his feelings like this.
Connie adores you, and you know he trusts you when he starts going to you for advice/help. Could be anything from schoolwork, to what color he should get his new shoes in. He’s also the one who, surprisingly, you have the sentimental talks with about your relationship with Jean. It’s easy to overlook, but Connie loves Jean, and he’s come to love you too; he just wants you both to be happy, so he’s there to listen when you need it.
Jean waits outside of your classroom after you’ve had a test or presentation, usually with a drink or a snack, or the promise of taking you out as a treat. Always tells you he’s proud of you, and is there to comfort you if you think you didn’t do too well.
He does not shut up about whatever major you’re in. It could be the same as his; it could be the complete opposite as his. He thinks it’s so sick that you’re doing it, you make it look cooler, you make it look better, and he’s certain you’re the smartest person in your program.
He’s pretty serious about his studies, too, so he’s always down to study with you in the library whenever you’re both free. More often than not, he shows up after you, usually with food or extra chargers. He greets you with a kiss on the forehead, and asks you how you are while massaging your shoulders gently. If it’s been a while since you took a break, that’s the first item on the list, after that, he gets to work and stays with you until you’re ready to go, even if he doesn’t have as much work to do.
He always sits across from you. This goes for when you’re in the library, or out to eat at a restaurant; Jean loves sitting across from you. He gets to see your face the best that way, and he adores looking into your eyes when you talk.
He’s not... not a morning person. He’s not up at 6am ready to grind, but he wakes up before noon; let’s say 10am is his happy medium. That being said, if you wake up before him, regardless of the time, there’s a 9/10 chance he’ll lay on your back and tell you to hush so you guys can sleep for 10 more minutes.
If you’re (close) friends with Eren, Mikasa, and Armin, Jean is... happy you’ve got people to rely on, but, “Of all people on the planet, you put your trust in Jaeger?” He acts so bitter (because he is), but deep down inside, he’s glad you have Eren to rely on if you need to.
(Also, you have to humble him and remind him that he and Eren aren’t all that different. If you like him, why wouldn’t you get along with Eren, bye).
Turns out though, that it’s not Eren who threatens to beat him up if he breaks your heart. It’s not even Mikasa, although, her threat goes without saying; it’s Armin he’s terrified of.
The last time Armin hated someone, it was this guy in your program, who happened to share a few mutual classes with him, too. Jean never knew the full story, just that he’s pretty sure that kid dropped out the following semester.
If you have a job on campus, Jean usually doesn’t show up while you’re working (knowing how embarrassed he would be if you did that to him), unless you work the night shift and it’s dead. Connie, however, does show up; usually in some kind of crisis (“Please help me, I don’t know what the fuck APA formatting is and this is due tonight, please, please, please!!”). Your coworkers actually thought Connie was your boyfriend for a minute. That’s when Jean starts showing up more lmfao.
He makes it a point to go on a scheduled, night out, kind of date at least twice a month. He knows life gets busy with school and work and midterms, but he always makes sure you both set side a time to take a well-deserved break and be with each other.
He’s the romantic type, so these dates are pretty swoon worthy, too. Drive-in movies, nice dinners, classy art exhibits, Jean plans it all. On that note, he really likes planning dates; he just doesn’t like talking about them with his friends beforehand.
All in all, very romantic, very precious boyfriend. He’s always thinking about you, what you need, and how he can help you out. You’re one of his main priorities, and he just wants to treat you right.

Word Count: 4,974
"What's up with Y/N?"
Eijiro stepped out of the locker room with a towel slung over his shoulder and made his way into the kitchenette where Mina was chugging a bottle of water before getting back to her patrol. His eyes were trained on their mutual friend out on the patio, pacing.
You had your phone pressed to your ear, the high neck of your hero costume unzipped to your collarbone and he noticed your gloves discarded on a chair.
"No clue." Mina shrugged. "She got back from patrol and she noticed a bunch of missed calls from her mom. She's been out there, flailing on the phone for the last fifteen minutes now."
The three of you had met in your second year at UA when you transferred into their class and were quickly accepted by their little squad of friends. You were a bit quiet at first but quickly found comfort in the group. Eijiro had grown especially close to you when you both interned with Fat Gum.
Late nights traveling on the train back to school, a few close calls while helping patrol, and days spent playing cards while you both healed up in the hospital left plenty of time for Eijiro to get to know you better than most. It was how he knew you had a pretty bad relationship with your family, why you hated returning home for the holidays almost as much as you hated any and all forms of tomatoes.
He considered going out there just to see if there was anything he could do but before he had the chance, you were sliding the glass door open. "Oh, good, you're back." He offered you a bottle of water for your throat that he assumed was sore after that argument. "I- um- can I borrow you for a second? Alone?"
Mina snorted a laugh. "If you guys wanna bang it out on the counter you can just say so. I gotta go to work anyways."
Eijiro threw the towel at her as she left the room leaving you two alone. "What's goin' on?"
You hoisted yourself up on the countertop while he leaned against the fridge. "You remember my cousin's wedding that's happening this winter?"
He nodded. He vividly remembered the both of you getting waste a few weeks ago when you were filling out the RSVP and accidentally marking 'plus one'. Then you ran around trying to find White Out but he'd told you if you didn't find a date or have a significant other by the time of the wedding, he'd just go with you.
You argued that your family was bat shit crazy, had more money than they could spend in their lifetime and because of that, they were among some of the rudest people you knew, and you didn't want Eijiro or anyone else around that.
The thing was, Eijiro already knew that and was still okay with going. He came from money too. A lot of it. His family was just more welcoming than yours, the wealth never really going to their heads. But, he reminded you that he'd ran into enough people like those in your family that he knew how to handle them. You finally agreed to let him accompany you, leaving the plus one box checked but the name line blank.
"Well, my cousin just found out that surprise, she's pregnant! And, obviously, she can't have a wedding while seven months along so they've decided to move the wedding up to this weekend."
He nearly choked on his own spit. "This weekend? As in four days from now?"
"Yup! Saturday at 4 in the evening. Oh! No one's supposed to know she's pregnant either. So, I'm just supposed to compliment her on how flattering her dress looks, how thin she is," Your hands strangled the water bottle between them, "And I have to find something flattering to my figure because my mother has seen me in my hero outfit and she's so glad I wear a mask because if anyone knew her daughter ran around looking like I do, well, it'd ruin her!"
You massaged your temples circling back to the actual point, "Anyways, I just wanted to bitch for a sec and let you know you're off the hook since four days is just a little short notice and I told her my plus one wouldn't be able to get the time off that fast."
He pushed off the fridge. "Well, wait, hang on! I'm not letting you go in alone to deal with them! Hell no! You need backup!" You looked almost taken aback by his abruptness, "Yeah. I can work this out. Is the wedding at the same place it was supposed to be or has it moved?"
"No, it's still that fancy lodge in California. I was planning on leaving Friday morning and then coming back either Sunday night or Monday morning since my mother insists I go to their brunch the following day. But, Eijiro, I already have this weekend off..."
"Denki owes me a favor or twelve. He's supposed to be off this weekend too, I'll just see if he can cover me."
"And if he can't?"
"Then..." He pressed the back of his hand to his forehead, "Y/N, am I feeling warm to you? I think I might be starting a fever!"
You folded your arms, shaking your head, "Thought you said lying isn't manly."
"Technically, correct. But, what would be real unmanly is for me to let you deal with your family's bullshit all alone." You watched him closely, "To be honest, I'm sure we could just explain you had a family thing come up and asked me to come along for moral support. I don't really think anyone would think twice about it. Hell, you took a few days off to console me when my turtle died suddenly!"
"Eiji, you refused to eat."
"And you brought me my favorite dumplings! Same thing!"
You might have shaken your head at him but your arms opened wide. The telltale sign you wanted affection. He walked forward, consuming you in a tight hug. Your arms latched around his neck, face buried in the hollow of his throat. "You're the best."
"I just do what I can."
>>><<<
You should have canceled. Instead of Eijiro faking sick to get out of work, you should have faked it with your mother so you didn't have to go in the first place. You crumpled to the floor of your bedroom in pure frustration amidst the twenty or so outfits and dozen pairs of shoes you'd thrown out of your closet trying to find something that your mother would deem appropriate.
It wasn't your fault you had a fuller figure. You worked out, ate right, not to mention your job kept you very active, and yet your, hips, ass, and breasts were by no means subtle.
Your mother had also insisted on the dress being floor-length and modern, "Do try not wearing all black. It's a wedding, not a funeral. And, get your hair looking natural, please." And, just like that, 70% of your wardrobe was out the window!
"It's open!" You called from the floor when the doorbell rang.
"You really should lock this." Mina tutted, walking through the door with a bag full of takeout.
"I do. At night."
"Honey, it's 9 PM."
"Night like bedtime."
Mina just rolled her eyes and walked into your tiny kitchen. "I see the dress hunt is going well."
"I actually figured it out!" You got off the floor, careful not to step on a heel as you made your way to the pink haired woman, "I'm just gonna go in my birthday suit. I figured, my mother made my body technically therefore she can't disapprove of it. Because, you know, she's never done anything wrong in her life!"
Your best friend snorted out a laugh and passed you the take-out container stuffed full of stir fry. "you're a wonderful person, you know that?" You loved the fact Mina didn't even have to ask what you wanted.
"If you'd just move closer to work then you could pick it up yourself and I wouldn't have to bring it to you."
"Too expensive." You declared after a mouthful. "You pay almost twice as much as I do per month and I just don't see the point. I have damn near the same amount of space you do for half the cost!"
You adored your small one-bedroom apartment. It was perfect. Right above a bakery that you visited each morning after your run and a little balcony that provided you with the most stunning view of the sunset.
"You and Kiri, I swear." Mina just shook her head and curled up with her food on the loveseat. "I thought he'd end up with the biggest house out of us all the moment we started making that real Pro money. You've seen his parent's house. It's massive! You could get lost in that place!"
Eijiro's place was barely bigger than your own. He lived in the same condo he had since you'd graduated UA, claiming it was perfect for him in each and every way. But, you knew that he donated a sizable amount of his paycheck every month to charities, the same as you. With savings to spare, neither of you saw the point in hoarding it and therefore the small condo was all he could afford with what he actually kept.
"Just don't understand how a guy that big can live in such a tiny little space. At least with you, it's you know, physically feasible."
Eijiro's bedroom was barely large enough to fit the king-sized bed the man needed to sleep comfortably and even then, his feet were dangerously close to dangling off the bed. And, as if the man's ears were burning, your cell phone went off under a pile of discarded shoes.
Shark-E: Figured out your dress situation? If not, I'm just gonna pack like ten different ties and hope for the best.
You: Yeah! I totally did! I'm just gonna wear this birthday suit I got and call it a night.
You chuckled at your own joke all over again. Watching the grey ellipses appear and then vanish, appear and vanish again. After a third time, you took pity on the man.
You: Joking, Ei. I still don't have it figured out but Mina's over so, hopefully, she can help.
Shark-E: Gonna give me a damn heart attack! Seriously, I wouldn't put it past you just to see the look on your mom's face. Tell Mina hi and good luck to you. I vote the dress from the Hero Gala two years ago.
You: Hi from Mina. Can't. Too much boobs.
Shark-E: You take that back right now! There is NEVER such a thing as too much boobs!
You chuckled to yourself, putting your phone down, and then finished off the last of your delicious dinner, thinking about the dress Eijiro mentioned.
You wondered if maybe there was a way you could make the thing work but it was so very low cut. So much tape had been used to make sure no slips happened but damn was it worth it! The beaded bodice with the sparkling long sleeves, gods, how you loved that dress.
"I'm inclined to agree with our shark boy. You're busty, who gives a damn. You looked hot as hell in that dress."
"My mother, that's who. As much as I'd like to not give a flying fuck what she thinks, for some dumb reason, I do. On top of her telling me that the amount of cleavage I would show would be vastly inappropriate for a wedding, she'd also say the way it hugs my hips makes them look too fat."
Mina rolled her eyes. "She's such a piece of work." Pushing herself up, she held her arms out to you, wiggling little pink fingers for you to take. "Come on then. Let's get you sorted."
"What about that one you wore to the charity art thingy with Kyoka last winter? The one with the silver top."
"Silver is too close to white." You called out from within your closet.
"What! Not true!"
"You know that. I know that. Every person with two brain cells knows that, which is why most of my family does not know that."
"Fine..." She whined and started sifting through the opposite end of your closet. "Oh, what about this?" Mina waved about the blue and green plaid skirt that made up your uniform from your middle school days when you lived in America. "Please try this on. I'm begging!"
You were pretty sure it wouldn't even go over your thighs anymore.
"It's got a better chance of fitting you!"
Mina threw it at you anyway. Slipping off the sweats you wore, somehow, someway, you were able to tug it on AND get it zipped, barely. It no longer covered your ass but you still enjoyed the way it swished around when you wiggled your hips.
"You could be fulfilling so many people's fantasies right now." Mina mused.
You pulled the skirt off and sweats back on, throwing the former back at her. "Yeah, you can take it and go fulfill Hanta's fantasies if you like. Not like I've got anyone to impress." You pulled down a dress you bought on sale a year ago but Mina was quick to dismiss it.
Too puffy, she said and then held up one that was from Momo. "I needed to get it shortened and I don't have time for that now."
"Wait..." She hummed and dropped the Momo dress. "I know what it should be!"
Mina hurried through the closet, grumbling about not finding it. "Just tell me which dress and I can tell you where it's at."
"It's that one you got for grad night and then you got sick and couldn't go!"
"Mina, Mina I can't wear that! That's actual vintage, not like, made-to-look-vintage!"
"But it's so elegant and has that off-the-shoulder sleeve thing. The wedding is at a damn sky lodge! It'll look so pretty in the snow! Ah! Found it!"
She yanked up the long, elegant gown from the garment bag you'd never removed it from. There wasn't a single wrinkle in the burgundy fabric. It looked just as beautiful as the day you found it in that second-hand store, on a mannequin with gaudy stage jewels that you just had to buy so the look was complete.
You ran the back of your hand over the velvety fabric, soft to the touch. "It'll be too tight now. If I was the same size I was at graduation-"
"Bullshit!" Mina cut you off with a dismissive hand, "You've got hips now. We aren't 18 anymore! It's not like it's some clubbing dress. And I bet no one would say a damn thing about your figure if they knew how easily you could crush them with those thighs!"
A smirk tugged at the corner of your lips. Without quirks, you gave every single one of your classmates a run for their money in hand to hand. Most were fairly easy to beat. You could usually take down Eijiro in about five or six minutes and Katsuki in half the time. Funny enough, it was Ochaco that gave you the hardest time.
"I'll consider it. But help me find something else just in case."
>>><<<
It was another two hours before you finally agreed on an a-line, empire waist green and gold number that had been the bridesmaid's dresses for Tetsutetsu's wedding. Mina thought they were a crime the first time they had to wear them, she had no idea what you were thinking.
That's why the moment you were preoccupied with trying to find yet another dress for the Sunday brunch, Mina pulled out her phone.
You: DO NOT, under any circumstances, allow Y/N to wear the green dress. She's bringing two because she can't decide. Red is the winner!
Jaws: Aw, come on. If she likes it, let her wear whatever she's comfortable in. She'll be under enough stress already.
You: Kirishima, it's the dress from Tetsu's wedding. The one that looks sparkly baby food.
It took him a second to respond.
Jaws: Alright. Understood. I thought you guys looked good but damn, she hated that dress.
You: We all did.
Mina looked at the message chain again and couldn't help but asked, "Are we just gonna ignore the fact that you and Eiji are flying all the way to America, last minute, to attend a wedding together, even though you're not together?"
"We've flown to the states before."
"For work!" She sat up eagerly. "This is different, Y/N! This is a date and not just a, like, casual date but a wedding date!"
You poked your head out of the closet. "No, it isn't. This is a friend helping another friend who stupidly mismarked an RSVP." You corrected very plainly but Mina wasn't one to give up so easily.
She whined, dragging out your name, "You guys have been doing this thing for ages. Why do you have to be so stubborn about it all!"
"What's that supposed to mean!"
Mina started ticking off points on her fingers. "He was the first person you opened up to at UA. You saved his life when he was busy saving Katsuki's life second year. You spent all that time interning together, became sidekicks together. Went to America together for three whole months, ALONE, and you honestly expect me to think there's nothing between the two of you!"
The truth of it all was simple really; 17 year old you had a massive crush on Eijiro Kirishima. He was sweet, always listening to you, providing comfort when you needed it, and always encouraging you to push your limits. He was bright and honest, a little slow in the head from time to time but that made him all the more endearing.
He was also head over heels in love with Katsuki Bakugo.
It was why you never made a move. Never spoke a word of the feelings you harbored. You didn't dare to cross that line with him because you couldn't ever hold a candle to the explosive man.
In the three years Eijiro and Katsuki spent together, your brain finally started registering Eijiro as just a friend, nothing more, and certainly nothing less. You thought your heart had followed suit but it was becoming more and more apparent that wasn't the case. Because the night he showed up at your door, tears in his ruby eyes, every lock you put on your heart broke open.
The same way you couldn't hold a candle to Katsuki, Eijiro couldn't hold one to Izuku. You knew exactly what he was feeling even if you never intended to tell him. Too overcome with fear. If Katsuki came back... that'd be it. Eijiro would go back and you wouldn't even blame him!
Still, the redhead consumed a decent chunk of your heart though, you couldn't deny that after the three months you spent together in America, gathering intel on a smuggling ring, living in the same apartment. The groggy, 'good mornings' when his voice was still scratchy with sleep, hair falling in his eyes. The late nights bandaging wounds and killing cheap bottles of wine while watching terrible American reality shows.
It was those bottles of wine that did you in on your second to last night in America. Supplying you with courage and draining your sense of reason, allowing you to crawl onto his lap, into his arms. You could still remember the pressure of his lips on yours, those sharp teeth gently dragging along your lower lip.
Scared hands tracing the curve of your ass before taking handfuls to squeeze. The laugh that came from you was unlike anything you heard before, something so genuine that you couldn't reproduce.
How it felt when he lifted you up and took you to his bed, laying you down taking his time removing your clothes, and watching with awe as you pulled away his own. The way he looked over top of you, his hair a curtain of red around you just before you closed your eyes, gasping while he filled you.
You also remembered the guilt that crept into your head during the wee hours of the morning, the doubt that was louder than the snores coming from behind you.
It made you slip from under his massive arm, gather up your clothes from his floor, you tucked the blanket around him, and pressed a kiss to his temple before padding out of the room.
You told yourself you'd talk to him about it if he brought it up, but he never did. Not the next morning, or night, not on the plane ride back home, nor anytime since. It was a memory you'd hold close to your heart, one you wouldn't let slip away or share.
"There's nothing there, Mina. We're just good friends is all." You lied with a smile on your face, something that had become surprisingly easy to do.
If only you knew that Mina saw right through it. That Mina already knew the truth of it all.
>>><<<
It was nearly one in the morning when your phone rang. The goofy picture of Eijiro with face half painted at a festival a few years back never failed to make you grin.
"It's a little late." You answered by way of greeting.
"Don't pretend like you were anywhere close to sleeping, you little night owl."
Chuckling at the nickname that had followed you since high school, "What's up, Eiji?"
"I was going over flights. You said in the office that you wanted to leave on Friday?"
"Yeah. I have patrol tomorrow and I didn't find any flights after 6 PM so, Friday is the earliest."
He was quiet on the other line for a moment. "Yeah, you don't have patrol tomorrow, or work at all for that matter."
You sat up a bit straighter in bed. "Um, yes I do."
"No, you don't. I called Mina, asked her if you'd mind taking that shift for you and, since she knows what's happening, she agreed the extra day for travel would do you some good. So, she's covering you tomorrow then you're off work until next Wednesday. As for me, thanks to all that overtime I put in when Denki, Kyoka, and Hitoshi got married, the three of them are splitting up my days so I have until Wednesday too."
Eijiro sounded impossibly proud on the other line, you could almost see the smirk on his face. "You've got this all planned out, don't you?"
"And a bag nearly packed. Just need you to tell me what ties to bring."
"Gold, burgundy, and black."
"Thought your mom said no black for you?"
"She said no black for the wedding. She said nothing about black at the brunch!"
You couldn't wait to put on the tea-length dress that had been a favorite for years. Satin with a lacy top and, best of all, pockets.
He let out a rumbling laugh that fell off into comfortable silence as you laid back in your bed, lights still on, the room still a mess. You tapped the speaker icon and laid the phone on the pillow right beside your head, listing to the various sounds of Eijiro moving around.
A door creaking open, a hanger clattering against another, and a zipper. "And just like that, I'm all set."
"Don't forget your passport or hero license."
"I have one in my wallet and the other in my backpack."
You swiped up on your iPad, off Netflix, and going to google, lazily searching through flights. "So, did you find any good flights since you've clearly been looking?"
Another chuckle, "Eijiro, why are you laughing?" More stifled giggles had you sitting up in bed again. "Just tell me a site you were on. They're just flights, what's so funny?"
"There isn't a site."
"You said you were checking flights."
"And I was... on my family's jet."
"Eiji! No! No, no, no! That is supposed to be for their business or hero things! My stupid cousin's wedding is neither of those things!"
"Relax, Y/N. My family has multiple and they don't have any business trips planned right now anyways. I already cleared it with my mom. Seriously, I just mention your name and she's likely to let me have it for a whole year at least. Plus Todoroki's is back up in working order so the agency is covered too."
Damn, why'd he have to be so good at planning from time to time! You'd completely forgotten about the second jet his family had. Always opting for the larger one since the few missions they needed it for required them to bring fifty or so heroes along.
"Besides, if we fly private, we can land at an airstrip closer to the venue and won't need to drive four hours on top of a ten-hour flight."
"Alright, okay, thank you but, let me take care of the rental car, please. It's the least you can let me do."
"Deal. I just have one more question for ya."
"What's that?"
"Wanna leave tonight?"
You nearly dropped your damn iPad in shock. "Eijiro! What the fuck has gotten into you! It's the middle of the night!"
"I'm excited!" He boomed, "I haven't had a vacation in months!"
"I hate to break this to you, buddy, but this isn't going to be a vacation. You really shouldn't get your hopes up. This isn't going to be a good time with laughs and fun memories... my family, they just, they aren't those kinds of people."
"But we are." He stated matter-of-factly. "If they want to have sticks up their asses then let them! We'll have a good time on our own, laugh and make fun memories! So, what do you say, Y/N? I can be at your place in fifteen. I just gotta put shoes on and grab my keys..."
"Wait, hang on. Are you forgetting that we need someone to, oh, I dunno, FLY THE PLANE! Actually, we need two someone's, can't forget about a co-pilot!"
He hummed happily and you rubbed your temples. "You, you have a pilot and a co, don't you, Eiji?"
"Mhm! There is a company we use. Two can be at the hanger in an hour and every hour after that. I just have to make the call and get the flight plan approved which will be done before I even get to your house."
There was literally no reason to say no. You had mostly everything packed, nothing you needed to get from the store, all you had to do was put on pants and pack up your hygiene bag and you were ready too. Maybe getting there quicker and getting the whole thing over with would be better than staying home dwelling on everything.
"Better put your shoes on."
The glee in his voice, that was enough to make this whole thing worth it, "I'll see you soon."
>>><<<
Eijiro reached into the backseat and plopped a bag down on your lap the very moment you were buckled in. "Had to make a pit stop." He explained.
"It's after two in the morning, where'd you have to..."
"Just open the bag and don't complain."
You found it filled to the brim with all your favorite snacks.
"I'm sure the plane will have a bunch of snacks we can raid but I know for a fact they don't have these." He held up a pack of cookies and creme flavored pocky that had been his favorite for as long as you'd known him, quickly followed by your favorite flavor too. You also found a massive bag of gummy worms and jolly ranchers.
"So, what you're telling me is our teeth are going to rot by the time we land? Not that I'm complaining."
You ripped open the bag of ranchers knowing that was what he'd go for first and sure enough his hand dove inside just as he pulled away from the curb. You could hear his dangerously sharp teeth biting through the rock candy like it was nothing while you still rolled one around your mouth.
Eijiro asked you about the resort you'd be going to, wondering if you'd been there before or what other stuff you guys could do when you weren't dealing with your family. "I figured we could fly back Monday night or Tuesday morning, you know, just play it by ear in case there was anything else we wanted to do."
More than anything, you wished you could just leech a little bit of that excitement from him. The glimpses of his smile you caught as you drove under the street lights made your heart ache.
"What?" He asked with that wide smile of his. You'd been caught staring, red-handed.
"I, uh, I just don't know what to tell you."
You could see the subtle change of his grin, watch as it softened and his hand came to rest on your thigh. "Hey, it's gonna be fine! And if we run into them while out doing stuff, you can just avoid them or hide behind me!" At least hiding behind Eijiro is an easy thing to do, damn mountain of a man.
His thumb slowly brushed back and forth. "'S gonna be okay. I'll beat 'em up if they're assholes!"
You snickered at his Katsuki impression and let the drone of the radio fill the air around you both. Enjoying the silence the rest of the way to the hanger with Eijiro's hand atop your leg.

There's a Chat in OM where Satan shows concern over Beel because he saw Beel talking to himself, crouched down in the garden, which Beel later reveals to have been him talking to a very frail plant he found because Mammon told him that talking to flowers helps them grow.
And what I adore about this is that it shows things about the brothers involved that we don't always get to see in the main game, or that are sometimes overlooked for the funny hijinks.
- Beel notices incredibly small details. The flower is small and hidden enough that Satan initially thinks he's talking to himself. He doesn’t actually see the plant at all. And Beel is the tallest brother, so it's not as if his height would be any help to him noticing something on the ground that's small, hidden, and frail, especially when he’s doing a task like watering the garden. That’s just a job to be done, and most people would pay more attention to where the water’s going and how much there’s left to do than they would to each individual flower. He must have been paying genuinely close attention to his surroundings to even notice it to begin with.
- Beel's care for things extends even to nature. He talks to the plant because he wants to help it grow. It's just a small, dying flower, one of however many there are in the House’s garden; there’s no reason to fret over it when there’s probably plenty of other flowers around it, and maybe even flowers of the same species.
But Beel’s genuinely invested in bringing it back to health. He’s seen this tiny, sickly, insignificant flower, and his first thought is to make it better. It's why he later clarifies the situation to MC, asking for more help, because the flower hasn't shown any signs of improvement.
(Very quietly, it makes me wonder if part of the reason he does this is guilt. Maybe Beel just doesn’t like to see things that are dying.)
- Despite how the brothers act towards Mammon most of the time, Beel fully takes on his advice. He spends days talking to the flower because Mammon told him that's something that might work, and it's only when the flower hasn't gotten better that he seeks more help.
At no point did he question this advice. At no point did he think that the “scummy” second-born would say something stupid, or irrelevant, or unhelpful. Mammon told him to talk to the plant, and he so did.
He says that he asked because Mammon was nearby, but at any time he could have just walked right past him, found someone else, and asked them. He could have completely ignored the fact that Mammon was there - especially considering how little the brothers tend to think of his ideas, to begin with - and found someone “more competent”. But he didn’t.
Which means he genuinely has no issues turning to Mammon for help. He genuinely thinks Mammon can give competent advice.
Out of all the brothers, Beel is usually the best when it comes to their overall treatment of the second-born, so maybe that isn’t surprising - but he can be derisive as well.
So it's nice to see, in a situation where it was just the two of them, without the antagonising influence of the others, Beel show he's more than willing to listen to Mammon as a voice of authority and knowledge - especially over something he's worried about. He respects and trusts what Mammon says, and believes it.
- Mammon saw Beel worried over a plant - something small and insignificant that has no greater purpose in the world and hosts no real interest for either of them - and gave him the best genuine advice he could.
Mammon likely doesn't actually know how to care for sick plants, but wanted to try and give Beel something to work with. We know he cares for his brothers deeply - almost (if not exactly) to the point of self sacrifice - so it's not a stretch at all to say he probably suggested talking to the plant in full seriousness, hoping it would help Beel.
It's a common piece of advice, after all. I've heard people say it all the time, from the most amateur gardener to the most professional; talking to your plants keeps them happy and helps them grow.
The bit that really gets me about it, though, is the fact that Mammon... knew it? Out of all things, you'd expect him to care about gardening the least - and to suggest talking to a plant even less. It goes completely against his image, but not against what we know of Mammon as a kind and caring (as well as emotional) demon beneath the facade.
Him, in a similar position to Beel, crouched down low and out of sight to murmur quietly to a plant he thinks needs an extra boost, is well within the spectrum of things Mammon would do but deny doing if caught.
And I just think it's sweet, imagining him passing on advice he's used in the past over a similar thing he might have done to try and help his clearly worried little brother.
- Satan, in a chat with Solomon and MC, shows genuine care and concern towards Beel.
His first instinct is to ask MC and Solomon if they might know what’s going on. He’s noticed a pattern of behaviour that’s unusual for Beel - “sitting out in the garden, mumbling to himself”, to quote him directly - and once it’s gotten to a point that he’s worried, he asks if anyone else knows what’s wrong.
It shows a fair bit of forethought, too. Satan didn’t immediately assume something was up, didn’t immediately dogpile on Beel; he let it play out, keeping a close eye, until it went on for long enough that he thought it might be something bigger. He’s often shown as being thoughtful about how others might react to things (at least, when he’s not enraged), but it’s interesting to see the actual depth of not only his caring, but his understanding of emotional states and how to handle them.
Satan isn’t heartless. If he notices something wrong, he’s very likely to approach the person in question (or people he trusts) with his concerns in a very gentle manner explicitly to avoid overwhelming them. He actively cares enough to pay attention to the people around him, and to notice when someone starts acting differently.
This is especially sweet when it comes to Beel. The brothers have a tendency to treat Beel as the big, gentle giant who doesn’t have a worry in the world except for what he wants to eat. He’s quiet, complains little, and shoulders so many burdens in stride that they often overlook his struggles - if they’re even aware that they exist, because Beel loves his family so much he tries to avoid troubling them.
The fact, then, that Satan not only noticed, not only inquired about his health, but then - when Solomon and MC suggest that maybe Beel’s stressed out and bottling up his emotions - openly says this:
Tumblr media
Just shows so much love. The game sometimes overlooks just how much Satan loves his family, but this? This shows it, without a doubt.
- Satan messages the chat with Solomon in it.
This surprised me when I went back to look over the conversation; I genuinely remembered it as him talking to Levi, for some reason. Beyond that, if you asked me who I thought it’d be that he questioned for information regarding Beel’s health, it wouldn’t be Solomon that immediately jumped to mind.
In this situation, you’d think it’d make more sense for him to ask MC and Asmo (who he’s shown to have a very close and affectionate relationship with), or maybe MC and Belphie (who would probably be the first demon anyone should go to regarding Beel, and who Satan definitely gets on with).
As far as I’ve seen - which, admittedly, I’m not caught up on any of the Human World events from the main game beyond spoilers I’ve looked up - there’s not a lot of, if any, interactions between Beel and Solomon? Most of them are Solomon trying to give Beel food, and Beel trying to foister that food off onto someone else because Solomon’s cooking is one of the few things he can’t stomach.
So maybe it says more about Satan’s relationship with Solomon. Looking back through the chats, Solomon feels comfortable enough with Satan to outright ask him if he’s kissed MC (in the chat where Luke overheard Satan and MC talking about K.I.S.S.), and Satan doesn’t react negatively even though it’s a genuinely personal question.
Likewise, Satan, when furious over one of his dramas, immediately turns to the chat with MC and Solomon in it. He explicitly states that he doesn’t know what to do with the feelings he’s got left over from the cliffhanger, and wants to talk it over with the two humans. Which is interesting in two ways:
+ It shows that Satan is comfortable enough when angry to go to Solomon and MC, confident that they won’t actively make it worse (which is always possible when it comes to Satan’s Wrath once it’s ignited).
+ It shows that Satan’s more than happy to talk about how he feels in front of Solomon, and actively engaging him in that discussion. Yes, it’s only over a drama, but you don’t often turn to someone you don’t trust when you want to vent over something you’re passionate about.
There’s a fair bit of trust between them, I think, regardless of how either of them are typically viewed. Plus, the chat’s called Cat (3). It’s almost definitely just a pun, but the fact that a chat with Solomon and MC in it is also named after the one thing that can soothe Satan from an outright rage (as we’ve seen both in OtakuFM and in the main game) is interesting in what it implies about their relationship with him.
So, back to what I originally pondered: why did he go to Solomon and MC when he was concerned about Beel, and not Belphie (Beel’s twin, most likely to know what he’s up to) or Asmo (who lives at the House and is absolutely more likely to have seen Beel in the garden)?
He trusts Solomon and MC enough to take the matter seriously, with discretion.

Henry at 9 vs Henry at 19
I was tweeting about this and I figured a post would be a better idea, since more people who actually give a shit about Ted Lasso are on here - basically I’m more and more thinking that “Ted Lasso” did a real disservice to Ted’s characterization by making his son so young.
Because we’re meant to sympathize with Ted being away from his son, stranded to a certain extent in England while his family is in Kansas. And I do, a LOT; the scenes where we see Ted struggling to keep a connection with Henry are heartbreaking, and I 100% teared up during the Christmas ep where Ted’s isolation was made so plain. It is a legitimately sad thing!
But I’m always distracted from this plotline by the fact that... well, by every conceivable standard, Ted’s a shitty absentee father for no real reason, other than “the show would end if Ted went home.” But IRL? I don’t care how many fucking cookies Ted bakes, I would hate him on sight for choosing a (very well-paying, to be sure) job over being present in his son’s life for years at a time.
I know there are tons of parents who have to leave their children behind for better prospects, for money and a home that will give those kids their best chance. But Ted had a very nice job in Wichita, one that would likely take him back even with him quitting the year previous because holy shit he got them to the championships his first year. He has no real reason other than money to stay at Richmond after that first half-season; and from what’s implied in the second season, he doesn’t go home at all once Richmond starts up again, nor does Henry and Michelle come to visit him. That sucks! Ten months of just... not being around for your kid sucks!
Plus, I do find it kind of weird that Ted and Michelle have their first child in their mid-to-late 30s, when it’s implied that they’ve been together since college (or possibly grad school). I was raised in the Midwest — in the outskirts of a mid-sized city, with most of my friends being from the towns surrounding — and not a one of them started having kids later than mid-20s. For a couple who’ve been together that long, fifteen years into the marriage is a bizarre time to decide to try for kids.
Which is why I really wish that they’d gone the more realistic route and had Henry be in his late teens or even early 20s — the same age as a lot of Ted’s students back in Wichita and a good chunk of his players in Richmond. Because then you would’ve been able to give Ted those same worries about being a good father, being absent from his son’s life, but in the context that makes Ted’s move to the UK actually defensible — Henry would be in college, or starting his first adult job (or both!) and generally expected to have less parental involvement in his day-to-day.
Plus, it frankly would be way more interesting. Henry’s character now is just a blank slate; we know he likes Legos and that’s kind of... it. He doesn’t seem to be reacting at all to the divorce or to Ted’s absence; but a 20-year-old son whose parents have split after God knows how long watching them drift apart? That would be a REALLY interesting character, even if we only saw him as often as we see the 9-year-old Henry. He’d have opinions about how Ted is handling his new job, about his baking, about how cool Rebecca is, about how his dad should never try to drive in England, etc. It would be a relationship instead of a prop.
Anyway now I want to write an AU where everything’s the same except 19-year-old Henry is doing his study abroad year in London and trying to get his dad a date because Mom’s already engaged to a very nice lady from Lawrence and Dad really needs to stop losing the divorce this embarrassingly.
