Is it okay

if I just sit with you?

Words will only confuse us

in a way that

silence never would.

Our shuddering breath

All

that

we

feel

yearns

to

go

outside.

Outside

our

windows

our

far-reaching

hopes

are

soaked

up

by

the world

that

expands

from

inside

out,

widening

with

our

shuddering

breath.

her deepest desires

in vivid detail.

She just disguised it all

as a distant dream.

that we keep close to our hearts.

We guard it

and protect it,

so it can't escape,

so we don't have to lose hope.

At some point,

all the reasons why you're waiting

finally fade away.

Only now,

you're decades older

and all you have to show for it

is your fear.

The surgeon sliced me open

and took my ailing organs,

which amused me

because I didn't think

I could get any emptier.

If I put as much energy into my life

as I did into making you laugh,

perhaps I could be something one day.

I want to run away

to Paris, or Spain.

It's just that I'm having a lot of trouble

getting out of bed.

No. I can't tell you what is wrong because I can't articulate the hollow feeling inside me, the echo chamber of doubts and fears.

Of course, it still hurts

when I think about it.

It hurts because I cared.

But moving on

feels so much better

than holding on.

I thought if I put you on paper

that I was strong enough

to keep you at arm's length,

but every time we talk,
