Meta Writers Asks! - 1, 7, 11 and 24 ❤

! ! ! ! DARLING HELLO AND THANK YOU! 1. Tell us about your current project(s)  – what’s it about, how’s progress, what do you love most about it?

- Pomegranate’s my main project right now in terms of fic writing, but I’ve been working on a tv concept for a little while! It’s about a middle-aged trophy wife whose husband leaves her for a 21 year-old boy after she finds out he’s blown all their savings on his findom kink. She welcomes the opportunity to reclaim her lost years and live out her twenties again, but she’s gotten to an age where she’s no longer regarded as sexually valuable by society and finds herself a victim of invisible woman syndrome.  Meanwhile, neither she nor her husband are interested in raising their 3 kids while they go through their respective middle-age crises...forcing her husband’s boyfriend to take over the role of homemaker despite having gone to school with the kids in question.  She destroys a total of 2 cars in the pilot episode and fights a clown in the second episode. 

- Pomegranate’s always my baby, though. I love it and the inability to talk about plotting for the sake of steadily revealing the plot is one of my biggest stresses in life.  I haven’t written a fanfic in years, so it feels amazing to be able to explore canon character psyche and portrayal, and to sort of just dump this odd oc protagonist who everyone hates into the fray. So much fun.

  7. What do you think are the characteristics of your personal writing style? Would others agree?

- I feel like a tell-tale sign of my writing is shortened phrasing. Unless I’m working on world-building and character thought, my prose tends to be quite concise.  These days, that might be up for debate, though, given that word count per chapter is increasing with each instalment. 

- I LIKE to think that my humour is present when someone’s reading something of mine. Something in my dryness that gives me a voice skewed enough for a reader to think “Logan definitely wrote this”. That’s the dream.

- My dashes, and my overuse of italics for stressed speech. Probably the overuse of periods as well. I just fucking love synonyms. 

11. What do you envy in other writers?

- I do envy the processes of other writers. Along with the speed of their output. Sometimes I wish I didn’t have so much tunnel vision and that I could have more confidence to write prompts that don’t make me feel like I’m spoiling something about my main works. It looks like so much fun and I love reading these when everyone does them - I just can’t seem to do it myself. 

- Short fics and oneshots are a big envy of mine! Even 75k into Pomegranate, I’m still writing scenes and thinking “this character development is occurring way too early”, whereas another writer will be able to do the exact same thing in under 5k and make it totally believable. 

24. Would you say your writing has changed over time?

- My writing ebbs and flows. It honestly depends on the piece itself. I tend to uproot my entire style for the sake of what I’m writing, and I pride myself on some ability to mimic versatility like this. It helps, given that I really enjoy using different writing styles for different character POV. I get lots of practice covering a few bases at a time like this.

(Be honest!)  - Right now, I’m sitting on 4 fan works, not including the prompts I still need to get around to finishing! - Pomegranate’s the only project not trapped in scene-breakdown stage, though. 

 7. What’s the last thing you read that made you cry?  - Number 7 can be found answered here!

18. Do you have a fic reading/writing routine?  - I try to establish a routine for writing to aspire to every day, but ADHD is a fickle bitch and sometimes I can get through a chapter in a day, or be stuck re-writing the same sentence for a week.  - Thanks to screenwriting, I’ve found I have a habit of writing Pomegranate a bit like a TV series with very formulaic plot beats. Character action and dialogue comes first, and then I bulk out with thought and reflection. That second part takes the longest, because I’m so, so used to not being allowed to describe what a character’s thinking that it feels like I’m breaking the rules. Writing John’s been an amazing help for that, though. It’s so much fun, taking a walk through his brain. - Whenever I finish a chapter, I don’t look at it for a day afterwards, and then the day after that, it’s time to hack away at it with fresh eyes. - I always go through the same process of spending the day editing, updating without a care in the world, and then proceeding to panic an hour later because I posted the chapter at 8pm Melbourne time and the rest of the planet is asleep.

I've been shipping since I was a little kid, but the oldest I can remember was Jack and Rose from Titanic (I used to watch the movie at least twice a day).

When I really started messing with fandom communities, the first fic I read was Sakura and Kakashi from Naruto (why????) and the first one I wrote was Ichigo and Rukia from Bleach. I'm still proud to say it had 29k readers on Nyah!Fanfiction and it was the top #1 read from that site for a few weeks.
