huh so sam levinson really created jules vaughn only to do her so bad in season 2
i mean, i know that s2 is far by now but i've been thinking about it and honestly, sam levinson does not deserve a character like that. hunter really got her, and all levinson did after the sea blob episode is to say "ha fuck that". like pls, for the love of god, stop this man asap.

I'm really disappointed that the Lassie and Jules subplot in Gus's Dad May Have Killed an Old Guy ended with Jules just... uninviting Lassie to her family Christmas celebrations because he was too awkward and anti-social.
Like, the entire point of her inviting him in the first place was so that he wouldn't be lonely on Christmas, and then HE ENDS UP ALONE ON CHRISTMAS ANYWAY?? When he couldn't socialize the way he was expected to (autism), Jules's first reaction was to not let him come over again.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The important thing here is that it's not even Christmas yet! The first time I saw the episode, I was waiting for something else to happen, for Jules to come up with a solution, but this scene here is just the end of the subplot. She lets him believe that he was "too cool" and that she was feeling jealous, which is still kind of uncomfortable. It also doesn't solve the problem of Lassie not having friends or family to spend the holidays with.
The thing that bugs me the most is that this seems so out of character for Jules. You're telling me that Juliet "gives cupcakes to all the new employees" O'Hara WOULDN'T care if Lassiter was left out? I just know that she would be doing EVERYTHING she could to make him stay and feel comfortable. She put so much effort into his birthday party, she remembered their work-iversary, I can't imagine she would be so embarrassed by him that she would give up on trying to make him feel included. If any of the other O'Haras made a comment or sly remark about his mannerisms, Juliet would shut them down with one stare.
I would have liked it if they had come up with another solution instead of just booting him (Like maybe Jules's nephews are playing with those little green army men toys and Lassie sits on the floor with them and helps them set up historically accurate battles. And they actually find it really cool).
Anyway, I just wanted to see Lassie getting adopted into the O'Hara family and not being alone during the holidays, since he's kind of like Juliet's brother anyway. Maybe the O'Hara family sits down to open presents and Lassie just stands off in the corner because obviously no one got him anything, right? But then Jules hands him a gift, and it is something perfect for him like a Clint Eastwood poster or the Grease soundtrack on vinyl. And he gives her a big hug while holding back tears. And it would still be a while before he meets Marlowe anyway, so maybe for the next few years, he goes over to the O'Haras for the holidays.
This subplot could have been so sweet and heartwarming, and there was a lot of missed potential. I'm not angry, but I think it was a strange writing choice. I know my girl Jules is better than this! :)

Merry Christmas :DD
Tumblr media
Merry Christmas friends! Sorry (again) for the impromptu hiatus. I've been busy with so many big assignments and exams.
Not a lot of progress has been made since I last updated (I'm a little mad at myself for this). I was able to write and sketch some of the interactions but it's still not much for two months. I'm getting back on the grind and hopefully I'll be able to finish the CGs and GUI off so I can focus on sprites and writing. I'm not sure when all this would be finished, at the rate my school is pumping out events and assignments January might even be a stretch. I'll try my best to manage all this and keep you updated.
I can't stress how grateful I am that some of you are sticking around despite the constant disappearances. I really do hope that Heartbeats will be worth all the wait and support :>

So I know we here at Startrekfandom love that "came back wrong but from the pov of the wrong" thing and apply it to many different characters and canon situations and I am far from trying to complain about it (I'm "came out wrong" trope myself so I was always gonna obsess over it) but having recently watched a very important episode (you'll know which one) for the first time I think there's a character who hits both tropes mentioned but llike, intertwined, opposite and subverted, and whom I wanna talk about.
Julian Bashir.
From his parents' pov he's "came out wrong but we got him help and he came back better" while from his own pov it's "came out 'insufficient', was destroyed for it, came back wrong and only later slowly came to terms with his new self tho never the process (justifiably so)" and it's heartbreaking because in a way, he's right! Jules Bashir died! His parents had an intellectually disabled child and decided to eugenics him! Julian is not the person he used to be and while I do love the person he is now, that doesn't bring back who he was! Part of me wishes we could've gotten to see Jules at least once and part of me hopes we never do because my heart would shatter.
This isn't a good comparison but nonetheless one I can't help drawing: it's giving similar vibes to anti-vaxxers. "I'd rather risk having a child who is dead than one who's autistic". Obviously this doesn't map over since Julian is still autistic and the procedure his parents subjected him to specifically targeted his intellectual disability and if any folks with id wanna comment on this I definitely recommend you listen to them over me, but it's a similarity I, as an autistic who has encountered anti-vaxxers again and again, can't help but point out. "Give me a normal child or give them death."
This may have been written about already but there needs to be stories about teenage Julian (after finding out and rediscovering who he was) practicing some good ol' recognition of the self through media. I need to hear about how he would encounter a story about someone who came back wrong (I'm gonna assume there's plenty of "wrong" pov stories floating around by the 24th century) and absolutely weep. I need to see Julian mourning Jules, taking years and years to process his feelings, experiencing guilt about how he, the imposter, didn't deserve to live Jules' life.
Came back wrong from the returned's pov but it wasn't an accident. It was done to you deliberately by the people who claim to love you. And now you are here, piloting the corpse of your predecessor.
Jules Bashir is dead. Long live Julian Bashir.
#i've called julian jules before simply as a normal nickname but i don't think i ever will again. not after this#and knowing that if it had been possible i would have probably gone the way jules did. knowing that at his age i would have gone willingly.#fuck dude i am literally actually crying literal tears irl right now this is not a joke#fuck!!!!!#julian bashir#jules bashir#doctor bashir i presume#came back wrong#star trek deep space nine#HE WAS SIX YEARS OLD!! HE WAS SIX YEARS OLD AND THEY KILLED HIM!!!!#i cannot stop crying i am literally crying and like not even just a little#i cannot... poor julian how the FUCK do you ever come to terms with something like that#and like... julian remembers. he has most if not all of jules' memories and also knows he was murdered simply for not being julian#like how did he cope#(im about to go off on a tangent that will contain censored names for the sake of not clogging those tags if you dont know who i mean hmu)#like this is literally the thing that fucked up j*ran so bad he went on a murder spree isn't it#he remembers the one who came before who was killed. very different circumstances of course esp since tr*ll are expected to replace one ano#another but he remembers this person he remembers BEING this person who was young and simply enjoying life and who died a sudden death and#he remembers the experience of that death as well and how it lead to his own creation. it's not remotely similar ofc but considering that#the only time we see t*rias in alpha canon is in julian's body... i need to lie down for a moment.#and jor*n couldn't cope! he couldn't! it was far too much and the weird thing is right now in this moment i GET it y'know?? like that's#so horrific. and i haven't watched any jo*an episode besides facets yet but do you think. do you think j*dzia told julian about all this an#he nodded along and kept composure and then when he was alone he broke down crying? like julian you're doing SO well ily you're coping and#you shouldn't have to obviously but you do nonetheless!! do you think julian still has something from jules? like i've heard there's a tedd#but i mean jules prolly didn't keep a diary he was a six year old with an intellectual disability it's pretty unlikely he could write but#does julian have drawings made by jules? i'd like to think so but honestly his parents probably threw them out. like they also moved so#sorry i'm just. many thoughts head full. ive stopped crying now but who knows for how long. also i'll have to tag this with my original tag#maybe i should've picked something less silly for when i make serious posts but like what am i gonna change my url as well? don't think so#original posts fresh from quark's pussy#and thats the tag limit folks it's been fun. i had to delete two other tags but my god. anyway. thinking about jules bashir forever & cryin

So I just want to make sure I have it right. If we choose Jules route that means MC and Jules were in like a situationship ?
Yes. Jules was never willing to put a name to it. Jules had never been in love before, thus, the intensity of their feelings for the mc scared them to the core. however you can choose whether you called them out for it multiple times or not. Jules wanted you with them but every question about your status would get evaded. Thats selfish. You can have an outburst about it, walk away, decide to stick around but keep pestering them about it.... There are a lot of variations.

Here's one of Belgium's greatest WW1 Navy heroes and Tintin's dad, Jules Isebaert ❤
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Click for better quality)
𖥑 he/him pronouns
𖥑 Bi 💖💜💙 (but prefers women) and recipromantic 💖🩷💚🤍🖤
𖥑 52 years old
𖥑 5'10
𖥑 His birthday is on August 9 🎂🎉🎊
𖥑 Has severe PTSD and PPD, this poor man... <:(
𖥑 Is from/lives in Belgium, but was born in the Netherlands 🇧🇪🇳🇱
𖥑 He speaks little/broken English, but he also speaks French primarily (all the European dialects), German, and Dutch 🇫🇷🇩🇪🇳🇱
𖥑 Has a mix of a Belgian and Dutch accent, everyone finds it very fascinating <3
TW// mention of amputation
𖥑 Lost his left ear, left eye, left arm, and right leg when he tried to detonate an explosive safely, but he didn't know it was set to go off when he was detonating it and... it was too late. His limbs and eye couldn't be reattached as they melted from the explosion 😔❤️‍🩹
𖥑 He likes watching TV, staying cozy inside, quilting, cats, jazz music, spending time with Tintin, soup, hot tea, pastries, rainy weather, hanging out with Captain Haddock and Skut (on good days) or talking to them on the phone, talking to Styx (my self insert), watching Tintin engage in his hobbies, sitting outside to get fresh air, lavender, and cooking (to the best of his ability)
𖥑 He dislikes dogs (but tolerates Snowy), sharp objects, the ocean, iced drinks, cold foods, chips, spicy things, blood, scary/horror movies, loud music, large gatherings, overly cold and hot weather, pretty much all of Tintin's enemies (especially Allan Thompson and the Captain of the Peary), people who badmouth his friends and Tintin, Bianca Castafiore's singing, being inside all the time, wearing his prosthetics and eyepatch, and any topic involving explosives and barges (these trigger his PTSD severely)
𖥑 Has 2 older brothers that live in Austria (and are Tintin's uncles)
𖥑 He's been a lifelong friend of Skut's and did everything together, but lost touch when Jules got deployed. They're still best friends to this day! ^^ and he met Captain Haddock 4 years after he was relieved of his military duties and he helped him have a more positive outlook on life <3
TW// mention of s**cide
𖥑 Jules is not a man of many words, but when he does talk he's VERY kind and caring just like his son <:) he's extremely family devoted and are the very few people he talks to, and is also super shy. Jules however used to be very cynical and had a bleak outlook on life after what he witnessed when he was in the Navy. Mentally, he's never been the same since. He's been very miserable and developed severe depression, and was even considering taking his own life a year after he left his base permanently. Thankfully his family, friends, and psychiatrist supported him through and through, and he hasn't thought about taking his own life ever since and sees life in a more positive light! 💖 he's not the best at talking to people and is not an angry person, but he's very sweet and has a lot of kindness to offer. ❤️
𖥑 He takes antidepressants and anxiety medication to help make his mood more manageable as well as going to physical therapy so he can walk normally again.
𖥑 He got deployed when Tintin was 14, and wasn't able to see his family for 4 years 😔
𖥑 All of his attached limbs suffered severe nerve damage, so he's unable to feel anything except for his abdomen and face. He even had a stroke when he was 32 :( Even with his right ear, his hearing got severely damaged as well and needs a hearing aid. But at least Tintin can feel his pain since they both have physical disabilities.
𖥑 He never had a job before being in the Navy, but he wants to work at a rehab facility where he can help veterans get their lives back on their feet!

She’s in surgery for her ankle, foot, and wrist, and to check on a pelvic and a hip joint fractures. Should be out sometime this afternoon.
Extended family has been called. Older Sis took it upon herself to handle getting what could be taken from the car. I took Ringo for a walk.
I know I need to make sure Dad and I eat something but it might end up being smoothies tbh, and can wait an hour or so.
I think I might need a nap.

Georges de La Fayette's Reaction to the Death of his Father
La Fayette only son Georges was everything that a father could have wished for. Georges was the perfect picture of filial devotion – to the point where some historians and authors (including me) have argued that George almost lost himself in his devotion to his father. He was named after his father’s friend and parenteral figure, he followed his father into the army and into politics, his fathers believes where his believes. He went to America, first alone as a refugee and later as a companion of his father in La Fayette’s moment of triumph. He risked his life to retrieve his father’s sword and married the daughter of his father’s friend.
While the death of La Fayette was a terrible hard blow to all his children, grand-children, great-grand-children, relatives, and friends, let us have a look at the man who, on this day in 1834, became the new Marquis de La Fayette:
From every side burst forth the sobs of the bystanders, which had hitherto been checked by their religious respect and by their fear of disturbing the last moments of Lafayette. Piercing and stifled shrieks strongly expressed the grief to which every heart was a prey. George Lafayette, his eyes motionless and bathed in tears, remained for some time in a state of stupor, from which he recovered only to address to his father his adieux, that were scarcely audible through the sobs torn from him by despair His wife endeavored to sustain and aid him to support the blow which had smitten him, but, insensible to every other feeling than that of poignant anguish, he heeded not the consolations lavished on him by her tenderness. How noble was his grief! How deeply he felt his loss! And oh! how fervently had he prayed that his father’s parting breath might still be spared, or that his spirit, as it hovered on the verge of eternity, might be joined his own.
Jules Germain Cloquet, Recollections of the Private Life of General Lafayette, Baldwin and Cradock, London, 1835, p. 279.
This scene is utterly heartbreaking to read, and it is not only now, with the distance of almost 200 years, that Georges strong affection was noted. His deep grief and total devotion to his father were already noted by a family friend at the time of La Fayette’s passing:
On the painful occasion which I have just described, M. George Lafayette, the worthy and modest heir of his father’s virtues, presented us with an admirable example of filial piety. He entertained for his parent that religious respect which is usually granted only to the memory of beloved individuals. He knew by experience his high qualities, his domestic virtues, and proved his affection for him by unbounded devotion to his slightest wishes. But if he was justly proud of the author of his days, the General on his side felt the value of such a son, and reaped the reward of the care which he had taken of his education, and of the advice and example which he had given to him.
M. George Lafayette had long attached himself as it were to his father’s steps, had followed him in his travels, and had been witness to his triumph at the period of his last visit to the United States. How heartfelt must have been his gratification, at seeing that great nation confer on his parent such striking and unanimous marks of gratitude: -- at seeing the American people mingle their prayers with his for the happiness and the preservation of the friend of Washington and Franklin! M. George Lafayette, the worthy pupil of Washington, was gifted with a mild but at the same time a firm and frank disposition. He bore with courage the apprehensions by which he was assailed during his father’s illness, concealed from him his anguish, and like a consoling genius never once quitted his bedside. It was thus that he discharged the duties of filial love, -- those sacred duties, a feeling of which has been deeply implanted by nature in every virtuous heart, and the performance of which presents an affecting example at the present day, when respect for old age, love of parents, and the ties of blood, have so great a tendency to be weakened; when a selfish spirit of unlimited and mistaken independence hardens the heart, and tends to produce errors no less fatal than those which were caused by abuse of authority in days of ignorance and degradation.
Jules Germain Cloquet, Recollections of the Private Life of General Lafayette, Baldwin and Cradock, London, 1835, pp. 277-278.
Georges is nobodies first association with the title “Marquis de La Fayette” and while he is not forgotten by history, he forever stands in his father’s shadow. Not only does he stand unjustly in his father’s shadow (for Georges was a fascinating and intriguing person in his own right), no, he stands there completely voluntarily. And while I can deeply resonate with this kind of devotion, I also have to admit, that it is a crying shame that there is not more about Georges, Marquis de La Fayette, as an individual. Not only in relation to his father or famous godfather, not in relation to anyone but himself.
