ah yes, dean winchester the character who is allll subtext and must be read beyond the surface level to understand anything abt him says something subtextually gay (you wanna go out in a blaze of glory and kiss about it) and then proceeds to do something subtextually gay (does something offscreen w/ a symbolically phallic object)

Monsterfucker mutuals and Hellraiser mutuals we need to absorb and discuss The Emperor situation in Baldur's Gate 3. I have mixed feelings so far from the spoilers I have, but then I do not have direct experience playing the game. May or may not play it for myself at some point, but I want the meta analysis on this one more than I want to play it tbh.

I love it actually when people combine a primarily non-related popculture thing to an academic interest of theirs. what if we view this story through a lense of Roman Republican Historiography symbolism. What if we take this simple premise and dig deeper into it with real biology about the certain types of flowers. It's grand.

you know what's drove me up the wall for like two years is this one post where someone's like "why do christians keep associating the forbidden fruit/original sin with sexual immorality!! it had nothing to do with that in the bible!!" like. christians don't associate the forbidden fruit with sexual sin. that was entirely a connection made up by loosely christian/culturally-christian pop culture

A journal spread I did about my past life as the Maid of Mensis on Tumblr live last night.
The text is hard to read (tho that’s mostly intentional) so here’s a trascript:
Today I was stricken by a past life, the Maid of Mensis I was. Maid of the School, tender of wounds and tangled ties, mangled and wrangled by cutting words and broken hearts. I tended to many a heart but the one who mended my heart was none other than the Lady herself. I... was not just a servant of Mensis... I was her handmaid. Loyal to the princess, yes I was. Evelyn was her Knight but I was her Handmaid. Handmaid to the princess, what love and tenderness must there have been, to spend morning till dusk server her as her assistand and confidant in her studies and lessons into the wee hours of the night. OH how I yearn for such a life again!

i can't form proper words but like the whole lollapalooza performance telling his story, with the setlist tying all the same themes together from his (almost) whole discography, the way he made a point to show his duality and how he's an incredible artist showing different sides of him, his mind is so fucking interesting
i wasn't even there but i can't stop thinking about that concert, i can't even imagine how you feeling
literally like right down to the set list and the narrative within the performance. weaving together the thesis of both hope world and jitb to further elevate jitb’s message and purpose. and just how well the two pair despite their different sounds is a testament to how brilliant and consistent hoseok is in delivering his points like the dots just keep connecting and i dont even mean to be dramatic but being able to see it live was just so eye opening as to how moving hoseok is as an artist and performer and just how much his work means to him. it’s one thing to listen to the line « my work makes me breathe so I want more » it’s a whole other to hear him scream it on stage like there’s already so much that we can look at and tie together on our own but honestly I don’t think it even begins to hold a light to what he has going on in that pretty brilliant head of his

Why is it that the more I look at Lang Shilong the more I’m getting Yang Jian from Lotus Lamp vibes from him??? Idk I just feel like so much of his motivation centers around filial piety/孝 but not in a Liu Chenxiang way, just specifically in a Yang Jian way

Someone asked me why Buffy is my favorite show and I had to stop myself from writing more than this but this is what I said…
1. Despite its complicated history (the creator turned out to be an abusive asshole) it’s one of the first mainstream successful examples of smart feminist genre tv and it laid the groundwork for everything that has happened since.
2. The show is brilliantly written and uses metaphor so successfully they teach college classes on it. Every episode / monster / dilemma Buffy and her friends face are a parallel for the real life struggles of teenagers.
3. Sarah Michelle Gellars performance across the 7 seasons of the show is a masterclass in acting.
4. It featured one of the first truly fleshed out lesbian relationships on network tv in the US and THE first wlw kiss between committed partners on prime time network TV. I remember the news covering it right after it aired.
5. Season 6 is to date the best depiction of depression I’ve ever seen in any media ever. It’s unflinching, raw, uncomfortable and hard to watch. And having that to watch when I was 13 was really crucial.
6. The way the show built pop culture references into its DNA had such a cultural impact that it’s responsible for turning “google” into a verb.
7. The makeup, fashion, and hair was simultaneously trend setting and a deliberate part of the story telling. You know what’s happening with certain characters based on the colors they are wearing for example.
8. The musical episode was one of the most successful musical episodes of a tv show at the time and it started a trend that tv shows still follow today.
