A beautiful friend I’ve encountered outside while having a smoke. I believe it’s Porcellio Spinicornis but feel free to let me know if that ID is incorrect!

Some wild P. spinicornis i saw at work today. i've only seen this species one other time years ago, so i'm happy to know where another group is. they seem to have cute subtle color differences between individuals, and some are yellowy, like the ones below i saw another day.

The size difference between those two females Porcellio spinicornis I collected earlier today, with their pouch full of mancae, makes me wonder if it's a genetic mutation to be bigger or if it's just age difference? Most P. spinicornis here are the size of the female at the bottom but with our winters, most don't live more than 6 months. So the bigger one could be older? I mean, I would have my answer in a year since I started my own little colony.
Any speculation are welcome!

Was weeding and found some friends!
I found three different types, but by the time i went and got my camera there were only these guys still about. I think the others got scared and tunneled into the dirt.
I'm not sure what species this is, I will update if I find out!
I used a Sony a 7 3 with a macro lens to take the pictures.
edit: they are Porcellio spinicornis!

Porcellio spinicornis
Brickwork woodlouse
5 of November 2022 — New York, USA
Originally native to Europe, this species has become naturalized in North America. It can be distinguished from other woodlouse species by the dark ‘face’ and the dark almost-line it has running down its back with yellow mottled patterns on the sides of it. This pattern reminded someone of brickwork which is what inspired the name. They are nocturnal, and eat decaying plant matter. Unlike isopods in the family Armadillidae, brickwork woodlice cannot roll up into a ball.
This little friend was found in the restroom and released outside after I took pictures haha

@pangur-and-grim @mad-hare y’all had me missing keeping invertebrates, and then I saw some cool isopods while gardening today… so now I have at least 3 species from my backyard chilling with me in the office/plant room!
We have:
Tumblr media
Colorful speedy McGees (Porcellio spinicornis)
Tumblr media
Large Round Bois (Armadillidium vulgare)
Tumblr media
Chill Plain Dudes (Trachelipus rathkii)
ID is from Seek, but it looks like these match up! Getting confirmation through iNaturalist. They were all found in a shady rocky area by my house, so I set up the terrarium in a similar manner.
I was pretty surprised at the iridescent spots on some of these guys! Very pretty little guys. And the Porcelios are FAST.

Was checking in on the Isopods a day later and got some nice photos :)
Starting with the P. Spinicornis who are so easy to photograph

Next, the A. Maculatum "Zebra," these guys have been very active about their new enclosure now, used to just hide all the time. These guys are also easy to photograph.

Lastly, the P. Laevis, these guys I had to go no hand light as the more transparent the isopod the more sensitive to light they are and they just scatter soon as it's on them. My dim room light ended up being enough tho!

The last photo is super cute with a juvenile and a tiny lil baby munching on some food together.
