I was listening to the Next to Normal Soundtrack which, of course, crossed over with the X Men movie marathon we had in my discord last weekend. This one's gonna be sad. 🥲

The throuple was established pre X2. Scott and Logan are, of course, both mourning. However, they mourn very differently. Logan is no stranger to loss and is able to navigate it while continuing to fulfill his responsibilities. Scott, however, hasn't experienced this sort of thing. Not since his parents. He shuts down and withdraws. Logan tries to pull him out of it. He tries to support him and help him move on but Scott sees Logan go back to teaching, to the daily routine of it all and wrongfully assumes he doesn't see the same Jean shaped hole in their lives. Scott starts hallucinating Jean (or at least thinks that's what he's doing. It's actually Jean's telekinesis but she doesn't know that either because she's so certain she died that day.) and that's when Logan really gets worried. He asks Scott who he's talking to and Scott reluctantly tells him.

"I think it's time you talk to a professional, Slim."

"No! I won't let Charles mess with my head!"

"That's not-"

"I can't lose her again!"

"Look. I get it. I loved her too-"

"Not like I did!"

It's like a knife in Logan's heart and he can't stop the wince.

"Scott..."

"You don't understand! No one understands! None of you had what we had! If this is what it takes to see her again, then so be it!"

"What about the other people that love you? The ones that are still here. What about me?"

"...I..."

"You're killing yourself slowly. How can you expect me to just watch it happen?"

"..."

Scott breaks down. The damn breaks and he dissolves into sobs.

Logan holds him while he cries it out. He let's him just unload it all until he's too tired to keep going. The sobbing is done but the tears keep coming.

"I just miss her so much! How can I keep going when she's gone?"

"Do you think she'd want you to give up?" Logan asks him. "Do you think she'd want us to lose you too?"

Scott knows she wouldn't want that. He knows she would want him to live for her but he doesn't know how. How can he keep going when it hurts so much?

"I don't understand how you can just go back to the way things were like everything's fine."

Logan hugs him tighter.

"It's not fine." He pulls back to look at Scott's face, hold it in his hands. "I walk through these halls and all I see is everywhere she isn't. I see her empty chair at the table. I smell her shampoo on my pillow. Every day, I'm faced with all the spaces where she should be and how empty they are. It hurts." Logan swallows around the lump in his throat. "Losing someone you love always does. But I couldn't follow her even if I wanted to. I have no choice but to go on. So instead, I make sure I honor her in how I live. By taking care of those kids she wanted a better future for. By taking care of the people she loved."

Logan presses his forehead against Scott's.

"By taking care of you if you'll let me. I hope you will. Because I can't stomach having to bury the both a ya so close together. I'm beggin' ya not to make me, Scotty."

Scott tears up all over again, leaning into Logan's palm.

"I won't. I promise. I just don't think I can forget her."

"You can't. You never will. But remembering won't always hurt like this. I promise you that."

It means a lot to me when characters choose to keep living, despite all the horrible things they've experienced, so here's a small tribute to choosing life in spite of suffering, and to two Eggs who made life so much better for q!Quackity and everyone on the Island. ❤️

Pac: Fit, are you raising kids, like, underneath a van and giving them mushrooms??? What are you doing!

Fit: [Stammers] I'm a Florida man, I'm a Florida man!

Pac: Ok, yeah. Ok, yeah, you're a Florida man, everything makes sense now. [Laughs] You are a good parent, you are a good dad.
