I have been wondering about the talk you have with Hans after sleeping with Rosa.

Hans doesn't seem to be all that jealous in that scene, but it could also be him hiding it well behind joking around.

I wonder though as Sam seems to make him more jealous by just breathing in the same room as Henry.

Also I am wondering about the line Hans has at the end of that conversation :"Do you think she saved her cherry for some knobhead from Skalitz?"

That line always amuses me as I'm thinking "Oh so just like you Hans?"

Oh this is fairly easy to answer, actually! Loads of factors at play here:

Rosa is a woman. As I mentioned here, heterosexuality is the "expected" thing here and something Hans would have made his peace with by this point. He expects Henry to sleep with women and to want to sleep with women. (I reckon he would get worse at this nonchalance after they got together if Henry decided to be a dick and kept sleeping around. I don't think he would do that, but some people might choose to characterize him that way.)

Part of this is also copium. Pretend you're not at all interested in your bro by being overly interested in his sex life to prove how straight you are. Obviously.

He asks for. So. Many. Details. How to tell your bro you want to imagine him mid-coitus without telling your bro that you want to imagine him mid-coitus!

Did you notice how Hans seemed to almost brighten when he found out that this most likely wasn't Rosa's first time? Like that lack of exclusivity is such a boon to him because it means there's nothing deeper there.

Along the same lines, I can almost guarantee he'd be so much worse about it with Katherine. Because Katherine isn't a noble shackled to the expectations thrust upon nobility and could therefore be with Henry. He knows just as Rosa does (and just as Rosa tells Henry after their romance scene) that Rosa could never be with Henry romantically.

There is one more thing to consider, which is of course that Hans isn't the only romance option. This could easily have been thrown in to please those gamerbros who hate the fact that Hans is a romance option at all.

As per the comment in the replies, devnotes state that he is actually jealous of Rosa and wishes he had been in her position.

It's no surprise to me that Hans felt so uncertain after they fucked and why he was so glad to have the reassurance that Henry offered him after, why he felt the need to lay down implications of more between them than just sex in their end conversation. He doesn't want Henry to think that he'd be like Rosa, just interested in getting her rocks off and then moving on in the name of realism. Even if his cock is shackled, he wants Henry to know that his heart isn't.

okay, but, like, THAT'S how you do a villain story. in the FIRST scene, you watch him shoot a man in cold blood. the show tells you right away "this man is not a good man".

but then it gets you to sympathize - look at how much the world has stepped on him. look at how terrible the whole of gotham is. and even when he kills more people, does more terrible things, you still root for him. because it's fun to watch someone be terrible to terrible people. you root for sofia too, because if anyone deserves revenge its her, but you're rooting for both of them somehow.

and then the show tells you "when he was a boy he killed his brothers". but even still, you want to see what he'll do. the show is called the penguin, you want to see the penguin rise. when he lets his mother's finger almost get cut off, you pity him. he's a sad, broken thing. how could he be anything but bad? but he loves, so there must be something else there.

but then. but THEN

the show always told you: "this is the devil". but you thought, maybe the devil can make hell a little more bearable for some people. the devil is so often nuanced, sympathetic, complex. maybe he's like that.

you're wrong. there's nothing good within him and YOU rooted for him to succeed. you wanted to watch the destruction. and now you have to live with the consequences of thinking, even for a second, that he could be redeemed.
