since you just talked about noah schnapp, i really wanted to add something because i am in the st fandom and recently i do see some pushbacks (mostly people who are fans of his character) against the bullying and harrassment he is subject to. while i feel relieved about that, i just cannot shake off the unsettling feeling in my gut whenever i see some of those people preface their defense with something along the line of "he was a stupid kid, he made a mistake" or "he is jewish he doesn't know any better".
just yesterday, i saw a post about this issue and these are some of the comments in the reblogs (word for word): "noah was raised jewish and likely adopted the zionist viewpoints from older people around him, which is commonplace in children raised around certain views." "The hate over a then 19 year old being mislead and brainwashed by pro Israel propaganda is absolutely insane" "While his statements did have problematic things in it in my opinion it was more because of ignorance than actual malice and he needed to be educated and not attacked like that"
i'm not sure if it's my place to speak on this because i'm not jewish and i was pretty much ignorant about antisemitism for like the first 20 years of my life. in my country, whenever we talk about jews, it's either in relation to the holocaust (i remember very clearly that it was only a section in a very generalized lesson about ww2 during my history class. we never dived deep into this subject because world history was not really prioritized compared to lessons about our local history) or that jews are smart. hell, i never even heard anyone refer to israel as the jewish state and mostly as a middle east country whose people managed to turn a desert into a habitable thriving land. the last two years have certainly shaken my worldview up a lot and ngl i have grown somewhat hardened over any overt antisemitic remarks and behaviors, but there is something about those comments above that just stucks with me - the way they sound so casual when being dismissive and disdainful towards his Jewish upbringing and belief. i wonder if it's just me being oversensitive these days or that i'm more attune to these casual dismissive acts as i didn't grow up with all sorts of degrading beliefs about jewish people instilled into my brain.
sorry for this incoherent rant. i also happen to be an eurovision fan so seeing the way that fandom treated yuval, then the dc shooting and then this… i just have a lot in my mind and i really don't know how to articulate it coherently. i'm so sorry for what is going on and how the world dismisses Jewish and Israeli people's pain and suffering. no matter what, i'll stand with you guys and words cannot express how much i admire your solidarity, determination, and the amount of attention you guys have towards each and every hostage. love ❤️
no, you’re not over sensitive. those comments are disgustingly antisemitic.
I’m not surprised from the st fandom, given my own horrible experience as a jewish person in that fandom years ago. to my knowledge, Noah has not changed his views in any way, so to say he was “just raised like that” in a sense is way off and disgustingly ignorant. it’s all truly phrased as if being jewish in and of itself is problematic regardless of zionism status.
it’s easier to pick up on these days simply because the bigots have gotten louder, more honest, and doubled in number. they’re not playing coy or saving it for a private gc, they’re just saying exactly what horrible things they think right up front and they’re proud of it.
thank you for your kind words. we really do deeply appreciate anyone who supports us, especially with everything going on.

Egyptian reversible Sand/Rocks Camouflage
To preface, I believe the “sand” and “rocks” monikers to simply be a colloquialism amongst western collectors and camo enthusiasts, I haven’t found a reference that cites any first hand Arabic documentation.
Thought to have been introduced in 1956, during the period of rearmament in Egypt following the Suez Crisis, production continued until the 90s with great variation, likely due to disparate small-batch manufactures and the ebb and flow of Egyptian martial priorities. Both camos are most often seen in a reversible configuration; each are a separate print (likely because otherwise the dye would bleed onto the reverse side) and then sewn together to create a double-layer garment. The “sand” pattern is a clear derivative of WW2 era German SS Platanenmuster, albeit with somewhat less shading and a more concise palette. The “rocks” pattern is a single layer print, the brown splotches arranged spaciously over the base khaki cloth. Such uniforms were associated with elite units of the Egyptian Armed Forces, such as the El-Sa’ka commandos, as well as being exported to nations like Syria, Yemen, Libya, Niger, and Sudan. The pattern was also utilized by the PLO PLA and PFLP in their struggle against the zionist regime during the 1967 War and Naksa period.
I learned about this pattern quite recently while doing cursory research on the historical martial garb of Palestinian resistance factions and it wasn’t until today that I found a sufficiently clear reference photo. Unfortunately, like a lot of militaria from outside of the NATO sphere, it’s prohibitively rare in the west and I don’t expect to ever discover an example in person. I love the minimal, two-tone simplicity though, and while I aspire to reverse-engineer and print more complicated patterns (which will be a project post for another day), I definitely want to attempt to recreate this one once I have the materials. If anyone can dig up any reference photos of this camo in situ with the PFLP or PLO, please hmu.

pls delete the pic you recently uploaded with mein k*mpf it’s really not good to post about it openly especially in a time like this
I explained that I don’t support that ideology in the post at the end of it. And I think what people don’t understand is that the edition I have tells the story of WW2, with pictures of that disturbing time, it is a way to expose the horrors that happened and the narrative that lead a man to pursue them, it doesn’t support it nor glamorise it. Before the text is a preface explaining and showcasing the historical context. I believe that is important to understand the words that dominate and made so many horrible and hateful things happen, so you can understand the narrative behind it and never repeat it again.

If you had to write a Spider-Man x DC crossover fic, how would you do it? Plop Peter in the middle of one of the iconic DC cities because of multiversal shenanigans, or would you blend things together so that Spidey would feel like a natural part of the DC setting?
Would Spidey remain a NYC-bound hero, or would he be slinging webs elsewhere?
Well to preface my answer, I need to reiterate that the primary advantage Marvel has had over DC from the start is being able to position itself as a response/deconstruction to whatever DC's putting out. DC started back in the 1930's and Marvel really only emerged as something recognizably similar to the Marvel we know today in the 1960's when Stan Lee joined the team. DC was shaped by WW2 and Baby Boom/Cold War Era patriotism, while Marvel emerged at the beginning of multiple massive counterculture movements and a superhero genre on the decline. Basically compare the Justice Society of America being conscripted to fight a domestic fascist threat during WW2, happily hooking arms and shaking hands and congratulating each other all the while, with the Fantastic Four, a loving but squabbling family who get their powers by pure cosmic accident and are now juggling their newfound powers with their still-flawed relationships and now supervillain threats.
This is also why Spider-Man, who in my eyes is very much the heart and soul of the Marvel universe is, in himself, a deconstruction of Superman. He's vulnerable where Superman is invulnerable, he can swing a web but he's very much subject to gravity, he's lean and scrappy rather than musclebound, he has to continually contort himself in the air and to his environment to get around rather than just smashing through it, and his characterization is very much based in the inherent instability of adolescence whereas Superman is positioned as this very stable, moral presence. Right off the bat Spider-Man is defined by a mistake, by his selfishness resulting in the death of his Uncle Ben, and he's later further defined by the death of Gwen Stacy, which is also Marvel saying to DC, "Hey it's not just monster of the week over here, our characters can grow and change and DIE." So like... even though I definitely put myself in the DC camp more than the Marvel camp, I can absolutely see Marvel's appeal.
As far as putting Spider-Man into the DC universe goes, honestly that would depend on what my overall goals for the fic would be. If it's just a silly "ooh what if Spidey met ________?" then Pete's probably getting isekai'd, but--and okay this might be cheating because it's Jack Kirby, haha--I'd be interested in seeing NYC-based Spidey basically getting hit with the Fourth World saga. He's just a Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man and he did not ask for a fucking SPACE THEOMACHY dropped into his lap! So it would be less of dropping Spider-Man into the DC universe and more of taking a massive chunk of the DC universe and making it Spidey's problem. And then he and Mister Miracle can be fwiends and Orion can pick him by the neck so he makes a squeaky toy noise and Barda can hold him in her big strong arms and he can dangle behind Lightray by a web going "Wheeeeee." Also I think him interacting with the Forever People would be hilarious as well. Spider-Man is not equipped to deal with invading Apokoliptian forces but then a bunch of Space Hippies show up and just fucking Voltron together into a Huge Guy and Spidey's just like, "I've met some polycules in my life, but this is ridiculous!" but probably something more clever and Spidey-ish.
Mostly I'd be interested in seeing this because of the aforementioned argument of Spider-Man as a deconstruction of Superman. While Kirby initially wrote the Fourth World saga as its own almost standalone/spin-offy thing within the DC universe, Darkseid quickly became recognized as a part of Superman's Rogue's gallery in the greater pop culture eye--largely thanks to Superman: TAS. Like, yeah, a lot of the time Darkseid is positioned as the big cosmic threat to the Justice League as a whole, but it's Superman who usually ends up in the solo rounds with the guy.
Tumblr media
I feel like this way Spider-Man would basically be positioned as the guy who ultimately has to help the New Gods acclimate to earth and this way the whole massive Apokolips/New Genesis cast Kirby set up in the Fourth World saga wouldn't end up scooted off to the side in favor of the Justice League, which is basically what happened to them in the overall popular reception of DC. Spider-Man would need Mister Miracle, Big Barda, Lightray, Orion, and the Forever People's help in defending New York from Darkseid and his goons, and they, in turn, would need Spider-Man's help in understanding life on Earth.
Spider-Man: Behold! The Bacon Egg and Cheese!
The Forever People: *awed* Ooooohhhh
I feel like it also works because The Fourth World Saga was Jack Kirby's way of incorporating a shit-ton of counter-culture into mainline DC really really quickly, so you already kind of have this meshing of DC and Marvel vibes.

OH DAMN OKAY— THINK ABT WHAT U WANT ME TO DO NEXT OKAY
tw talks of ww2, abuse, and other sensitive topics
UHHHHH ILL DO WALBURGA BC U WERE TALKING ABOUT HER EARLIER
I hate her, I'll preface this with that, but I'm just diving into her character and how she became the way she did
we know almost basically nothing about her, besides her relationship to Sirius and reg, and what she kinda did
but like her when she was younger
but first, we've gotta analyze the time period and how that affected her values
Sirius was born in 1959, and if we estimate Walburga was somewhat young when she had him (seeing as she was probably betrothed) so let's place her at having Sirius in her 20s maybe like 23-25
so that means she was born around 1934 at the very least (In this scenario)
and while ww2 is going on for the muggles, don't you think it'd be a perfect time for blood supremacists to kill a bunch of muggles and halfbloods without getting caught?
I'd think so
So like the black family being who they are, had engrained it in their children from a young age that anyone that wasn't a pure blood was automatically beneath them
and as a child who was extremely wealthy due to her blood, why would walburga find an issue with that? not to mention she was very smart, which seemed to even further prove her parents point
she was the top of her class, cold and calculating, but knew how to be diplomatic
everyone either adored her or hated her, usually both
she was destined for greatness, to be a prominent figure in the wizarding world, but sexism would never allow things to be that simple
she was able to get a job at the ministry of magic at the young age of 19, it was never seen or heard of before, for someone so young and talented (and a woman) to get that job
the same job Orion Black wanted. Orion was never far behind his cousin when it came to grades, prominence, or anything else, but he was always second to walburga
it was always walburga this, Walburga that, and Orion— knowing his whole life he was to be married to her— was ready to cash in on that vow and take Walburga's job away from her
this is how, in the 1930s for certain jobs women were forced to resign if they had gotten married, and I feel like this would have been especially true in the wizarding world
so a few years after getting a lower level job at the ministry than walburga did, he brought up the topic of marriage to his parents, spouting stuff about how they should get married now and try to have kids now before it was too late, and before walburga's prominence withered
and they agreed. so that next year after they turned 22, Orion and walburga were married
needless to say, walburga was PISSED but she knew it was useless to protest getting married, so all she asked for was one more year at her job and one year to plan the wedding
which meant she had 2 years to postpone the wedding, hence why they got married at 22 and not 20
But even then, Walburga knew it was Orion's jealousy that did this to her. doomed her to be a "submissive and inferior being"
She wanted to be ahead, to show how much better she was than everyone else, not stuck inside a house taking care of kids
which is where Sirius and regulus come in
I would like to preface this by saying she was never a good mother in my mind, but she wasn't as gung ho as abusive at first
she has Sirius when she was 23, and regulus when she was 25
She was just neglectful at first, not taking care of Sirius more than the bare minimum, and even then, sometimes she didn't do that
Sirius mainly taken care of my house elves, barely seeing his mother for the first four years of his life, and if he did see her, she was curt, dismissive, and short tempered
but she never physically hurt him
that wasn't until regulus came along. Regulus' pregnancy was much harder on walburga than Sirius', which only pissed her off more when he was born
Sirius, being only a toddler when regulus was born, was the object of walburgas newfound wrath
he would be left without food for periods of time, threatened when he cried, and more
but it wasn't until he was 4 that the punishments upped. with age came a stronger body, and a stronger body meat it could sustain more damage
that's when the beatings started, it would be a slap here an there, instructions to use corporal punishments in his tutoring if he was wrong, getting hit in the knuckles with rulers if he cried
Sirius got most of walburgas attention at this point in time, since Sirius had asked kreacher to keep regulus away from their mother as much as possible
when Sirius was 7 and regulus was 5, the cursed started. the unforgivables
every year spent in that house was one more year walburga got more bitter, more angry. and she couldn't take it out on her husband, so who better and more vulnerable than the kids?
she ground the teachings her parents taught her as a child into them, to extremes, with punishments if they didn't obey
the first unforgivable she used was when little Sirius had asked her why their bloodline made them better than everyone else
and without so much as an answer, she used her first crucio on Sirius
the little boy writhed in pain and a part of walburga couldn't help but enjoy it, seeing him in pain
it was payback, revenge for the life they took away from her. making them feel only a portion of her pain.
but if she couldn't do it herself, she would mold her children into everything she was supposed be and more, and would make sure they wouldn't stray
which is why Sirius leaving destroyed her so much. Sirius was very smart, he reminded walburga of herself when she was younger, but he always always went against what she wanted and she couldn't stand it
she believed that the more harsh she got, maybe he would finally fall into line, to let her live through him
he was her only way out, even if by living vicariously through him
but then he left. he put a stain on their family. she despised him. how could her son betray her like that when he was destined for greatness?
She couldn't fathom it. she allowed herself one mistake, one slip up. she wouldn't mess up again. she'd get it right with regulus.
she was harsher on regulus than anyone could have ever imagined, and Orion didn't even care. He had what he wanted, his high up job and an heir, who cared about the disowned son now?
Regulus, having no one left to protect him faced the full force of walburga, and obediently fell into line
he was the perfect heir, at least on the outside. he was smart, but not the way walburga wanted him to be. she wanted another sirius, but had a regulus
she made sure he studied, and was at the top of his class. if he wasn't, she made sure he knew what would happen
and when Voldemort arose, she made sure he was on track to joining the death eaters
walburga was elated she was finally going to get what she wanted, but then regulus died. she was crushed, a shell of her prominent, assertive self after that. because once more, she was so close, and yet gotten her dreams taken from her
Even the fact that Orion(the person who took everything from her)died that same year couldn't bring her back to herself
she died years later, alone in the house she was trapped in

I'm gonna preface this by saying that I know that Games Workshop are not fascists and that Warhammer 40k is openly intended to be a criticism and parody of fascism and other forms of authoritarianism
However, GW has still kinda stumbled into a similar issue that The New Order did, that issue being what I'm gonna call The Problem of the Reasonable Fascist because pretending I'm doing something clever makes me feel special
So, The New Order: The Last Days of Europe is a mod for Hearts of Iron 4 set in a timeline where the Axis won WW2 and things are to put it lightly not going well
Over time, the setting's lore has gone through a bunch of revisions, with a pretty big one being the removal of Esoteric Nazism as a distinct ideology group
In early versions of the mod, there was Fascism (ie. the ideologies practiced in real world Germany and Italy in during WW2) and then there was Esoteric Nazism, which was basically Batshit Insane Fascism, which takes Fascist ideology in darker or downright bizarre directions (eg. A vaguely 40k-inspired Russian Imperial Cult that believed that Alexei Romanov was still alive and would return once the country was "cleansed") and represents some of the worst possible excesses of Fascism
These ideologies still exist in TNO, but were moved into the same ideology group as the non-esoteric fascists and went through revisions because the developers concluded that when you have groups like the Order-State of Burgundy wanting to trigger global nuclear war so True Aryans will inherit the Earth (ie. the ending of the Turner Diaries), the 3rd Reich seems a bit less crazy
That's what I'm referring to as the Problem of the Reasonable Fascist, the way some anti-fascist narratives are written can create something so over the top that it accidentally makes less extreme forms fascism seem not as horrible
40k runs in to this same issue due to the way it handles characters and the pre vs post-Horus Heresy Imperium of Man
The Imperium of Man in the 40th millenium is a theofascist hellhole so incomprehensibly vast that the death of billions each day to keep the war machine running isn't even a statistic, it's a rounding error, but it's also repeatedly presented as an empire in decline whose existence is a mockery of the Emperor's vision, which runs into the exact problem I'm talking about
The pre-Heresy Imperium was authoritarian, xenophobic in multiple meanings of the word, and openly hostile to any schools of thought that wasn't their own, but in comparison to the post-Heresy Imperium, it was a golden age, and those who fought in defense of it are generally written as pretty reasonable even though they're still authoritarians
Hell, the Horus Heresy happened in part because Horus saw a vision of the 40th millenium and thought that was the Emperor's end goal
The bar is set so low in the modern Imperium that if you aren't the kind of zealot who shoots someone for stuttering during prayers, you are basically treated as a pillar of rationality by the audience
Again, GW and its writers are not Fascists, but this is an interesting phenomenon I've noticed

tell me about your ww2 men
ohohoho you have no clue the can of worms you've opened >:)
my primary fixation at the moment is Band of Brothers but I thoroughly enjoy the other HBO war shows (The Pacific, Masters of the Air) and other war media because what's more fun than taking the bond that men form while in their most desperate moments and turning it into something gay!
Band of Brothers is about the 101st Airborne Division and their tour of Europe (specifically Easy Company) My top ships at the moment are Winnix and Baberoe (though there are SEVERAL more but that would take hours to get into). Also gotta preface because I know you haven't seen it. I am NOT shipping the actual dudes. Just their fictional counterparts (though a lot of the stuff irl men did was suspicious as hell...)
Winnix is Dick Winters and Lewis Nixon who are basically polar opposites. Dick grew up in rural Pennsylvania to a Mennonite mother, never drank, humble family, you get the vision. Nix was super fucking rich, went to Yale, had family homes in New York and California, spent his youth traveling Europe, and was an alcoholic. Despite them being polar opposites they became best friends and spent the entirety of the war side by side. Like. riiiigghhhtttt. suuuureeee. you're not in love. basically every guy that wrote about them was like "yeah i had no clue why they got along they were nothing alike" anyway they defo fucked in a foxhole
Baberoe Is Eugene Roe (medic hehe) and Edward "Babe" Heffron. There's an entire episode that centers around their dynamic and Eugene's role as a medic. The entire episode Babe is getting more and more frustrated that Gene won't call him "Babe" (like everyone else does) and is instead calling him "Heffron" or "Edward". This episode takes place during the Battle of the Bulge so it's pretty dismal and Eugene is just becoming more and more distant trying to disassociate from the horrors of battle and watching men die. Babe's friend Julian ends up dying and he feels guilty because they promised each other that if either died they would collect his stuff and bring it to his mother. Babe is unable to get Julian's stuff so he's really fucking torn up. Eugene quite literally feeds him chocolate and then cuddles him in a foxhole???? because that's a normal thing to do right. everyone cuddles their homies in the foxhole. The episode ends with Babe and Eugene sitting together in a foxhole while Eugene patches up a cut on Babe's hand (I can't even begin to unpack the significance of the bandage he uses but trust me there's more gay levels to this shit) Eugene calls him "Babe" finally which Babe is very excited about "Hey, Gene, you called me Babe!" "I did? when?" "Just now." "Babe. I guess i did." "Heheh! Babe." "Heffron. Watch the goddamn line" Also Eugene is from Louisiana and Babe is from Philly so they both have silly accents that I love
Beyond like making them gay and shipping them I do actually just think the story is very compelling and admirable AND it's a beautiful show. Like from the cinematography to the writing, acting, music. It's so good. There's a reason it holds up 20+ years later
i could literally write paragraphs but i won't subject you to that torture

We Need To Talk
>"Ah! I can't wait to see what's in the -critical tags!" >*People being harsh to critics, stans or proshippers.* >*Remembers that Stans and Proshippers contain children* >*Realizes my previous statements didn't mean jack shit involving when the Cherry Situation began.* >*closes Tumblr.* >*Reopens tumblr.* >*Post is created.*
Hey, critical community? Y'all really haven't understood have you? 90% of the posts are not even critical against the show, 10% is.
I know it's ironic since I make up 5% of the 90% but come on now, what the fuck.
I'm gonna say this for the record, I am not going to bat for anyone here, I am saying this from a victim of grooming at the hands of something I would not name.
There is a lot of Critics (Not naming who, if you know this is about you. Do not answer, do not rise to defend yourself. This will cause more issues.) that have a problem with talking about Proshippers that comes off as being borderline aggressive or treating them like they are literally that one guy in WW2.
Do not.
Most Stans are Children Most Proshippers are children.
Preaching about how bad they are is NOT gonna change a damn thing and I am TIRED of seeing this unrelenting hate for a community we can choose to ignore. If they want a space, let them have their own. If they co-exist in a bubble. Don't burst the bubble.
Making a post talking about how "Erm, this [random person] is wrong!!11!!!" is poking the bear, the harassment I see people receieve is the result of putting these children on blast and they are responding in the ONLY way they can.
Proshippers are abuse survivors, victims of grooming or an unrelated thing. Children are children. They don't know better. If you openly call these people out or claim with charged language on HOW their works are disgusting, it's causing harassment to these groups.
The world will truly be a better place if we all just ignore each other and stop calling this shit out.
In little over a year there's been:
Stolitz discussions that will remain the same, and forever stay the same.
Harassment/Charged posts against proshippers/stans that NO ONE actually calls out but blindly agrees (No, just because you called out someone for saying Viv deserves to be SA'd doesn't mean you don't call out people who use charged language in the critic community.)
Infighting/Refusal to handle things in private or research it seems.
Claiming someone's [Thing A] without properly realizing the source came from someone less then reputable.
Taking low rent shots at [Popular Critic] because it's [Popular Opinion.]
Now, this is not causing any storms or issues within the community. I just want to point out the lack of accountability because it seems whenever someone calls this behavior out, someone on anon seems to call the person who holds this community accountable out.
Look man, if you want a peaceful space to discuss your hatred or criticisms. Maybe DON'T continue to rise to the bait when faceless anon makes a post.
Also let's preface, children who lash out against you on Anon don't understand why their tastes are bad, you responding to them in a harsh or making posts that seems hurtful will only show that they are not welcomed. You can say something nicer or explain in a polite tone why they are not welcomed but making so many posts telling people the same shit is just overkill. (Again Ironic coming from me, but if I get called out for it, so can they.)
So now, here's the thing I think is happening. None of you care for Proshipping/Slur Discourse/Racism/Etc Etc because you don't apply the same metrics to people who ALSO do it in your circles. If you cared so much about [Thing I am currently arguing about.] you would actively denounce it. I hate when people say "Oh but I am not the guardian of this person."
But you are towards any other adult/child who proships? Like bro, be honest. Does it matter? Does it really matter (Again this is NOT towards anyone recently. This is a term I see a lot of people use to avoid taking other people to task.)
At this point I am convinced neither of the community gives a horsefuck about what they are saying and they shittalk just to shittalk because the notes I see on [Highly debated topic] = bad completely convinces me you all are note farming.
PLEASE; STOP BRINGING AWARENESS TO PROSHIPPERS AND STANS/CRITICS. Unless it's a EMERGENCY WITH EVIDENCE they are harming people. STOP. TALKING. ABOUT. IT.
I don't care if Maywater34242 writes edgy Stolitz fanfictions or Uno3432 writes Lolita Fanfiction that is sexualizing shit, it's because I DON'T LOOK FOR IT. I see it on my timeline and I go. "Ew, how disgusting." block and move on, I don't make a OP Thread about how this person is a PREDATOR and my claim is I made it the fuck up.
PLEASE.
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.
BLOCK, MUTE OR JUST STOP BRINGING ATTENTION TO SHIT THAT NO ONE CARES ABOUT.
If you read my post and still want to argue about it on Anon then it misses the point, no one has to listen to what I have to say. But if people want to actually see less shit like this, push back against people and hold them accountable. The reason why we don't see people be publicly held accountable is because we're sending the taking tasks asks IN INBOXES rather then making a throwaway or public posts. This would do something.
P.S. You can't claim someone is harassing you in Inbox anon with the name of the person which it's soooo easy to actually fake being someone, you can send yourself asks and attatch - CriticalPerson to it and then claim you received the ask. Someone else can do it, if someone is larping as me and sends you an ask. THINK, CRITICAL COMMUNITY THINK! THAT'S NOT THE PERSON YOU THINK IT IS.
It feels like this community lacks self awareness or understanding that people want what's best, but pushing back and refusing to listen to others breeds miscommunication and endless shitting up threads and blogs and I am tired of seeing grown ass adults claim they care about children only for them to harass a community... Filled with children.
You are the same exact people who call Viv and Co out for their behavior when this is the same exact behavior you guys exhibit. At least I have an excuse (Arrested Development and deteriorating mental state.) I am convinced on what SB said was true involving people seeing themselves in people, if you A-Log the fuck out of a community you have the same exact traits and behaviors as the person you stalk, and you constantly have to prove or show how bad it is.
if you have a problem with someone, block them. DNI/BYF's ain't shit because how the FUCK are you gonna know who is coming at you if you don't seek this shit out yourself? Right, because you think a honeypot is gonna work. Nah, I don't have you as that purple button where the follow is, so I am NOT gonna follow some list long thing (It's gotten to the point where PEOPLE on this site and beyond make joke lists, they see us as jokes.)
So if you want a space you gotta fucking get off your ass and do it yourself. Anons and the asks you receieve can be the SAME people you don't want interacting.
Also, if you go out of your way to interact with people that's on your DNI (I.E. Pedos or Proshippers.) then you do not care about your own boundaries, it goes two ways.
Me? I don't care, I am from 2004 era internet, I think this whole shit's fake and gay. I do respect my mutuals because they actually are reasonable. So Ily guys.
And to easily butthurt people, this is just something I find exhausting which some people have been telling me in private on how annoying it is, I am just sharing this with everyone.
And again, if this applies to you, chances are, it doesn't. If you automatically assume, that means you are self-aware and instead of doing right you continuously complain about it. Do better. Community call this shit out. Be the change you want in this world.

its def smth to keep in mind while reading, esp since brideshead is now considered one of The british-country-house novels (part of why saltburn is so compared to brideshead! the director said that brideshead was one of the books in that "genre" that served as reference for saltburn); the note abt the house being a sort of museum nowadays also reminds me of orlando (by woolf, 1928) vs orlando (film adaptation dir. potter, 1992) - a key setting of the story, the great house (an ancestral british home in the countryside, orlandos home) ends differently: in the 20s novel, orlando lives there with her husband. in the 90s movie, the house has been turned into a 'museum', orlando can only visit it from afar. def interesting, the way the british country house changes pre and post ww2!
also "a panegyric preached over an empty coffin" is interesting to keep in mind - waugh approached writing abt nobility w the mindset that it was basically gone - half mourning, half idolising. kinda reminds me of nick carraways approach to gatsby in the great gatsby ;; anyway i think this is interesting bc off the top of my head, most recent media abt the wealthy/nobilty is either satirical/critical or fluffy/idolising with no real teeth to it (rwrb, bridgerton?), or somewhere in between (whatever the fuck was going on in saltburn) ! so yeah this'll be refreshing ig for me ?? idk where im going with this.
also "these ancestral seats which were our chief national artistic achievement" makes me laugh a little when i remember charles, the narrator, becomes a painter, particularly of noble houses. like hmmm there's definitely something of the author in this narrator 🤔
i feel like i should have a third point and i can't think of any. um. oh yeah the prologue! I like how it starts with charles looking back at the military camp as he leaves it, its not a particularly striking first line but it def establishes that, well, charles has a thing abt looking back at places he can't really return to - a thing about revisiting places, you could say [studio audience boos as the drums chime sadly[
it's pretty bleak at the start tho; during my first read i probably wouldn't have gotten past this if i didn't have my pencil w me (the promise of being able to scribble jokes in the margin if it remained boring) (it did not remain boring, btw). ig that'll make the introduction of brideshead more striking?
i am very excited about this reread <3

how do I put this
I want to preface this with
NOt every Jewish person is a Zionist. You can be antizionist and hate antisemitism
A lot of horrible people have always used free Palestine as a dogwistle. They never liked either Jews or Palestinians
I do not like the violence, of course I don't
I dont know why I'm sitting here on my bed texting on Tumblr what MY opinion is on this war. Like I know anything or have any authority on the matter.
I am a 21 year old American. I live all the way across the sea on another continent where a country full of colonist war-profiteers pump out tons of pro-isreal propaganda.
Case in point the famous"we would need to make an Israel" speech.
I can only impart what I know from my experiences.
I've been in BLM protests and seen with my own eyes how horrible the police treat the protesters and how the news twists it in their favor, depicting them of being bloodthirsty violent rioters and when they can't in any way rationalize that they at least say there was "wrong on both sides".
I've researched propaganda, particularly blood lible in order to understand how people condemned Jewish people and perpetuated theofacist nationalism.
I've seen the ridiculous double standard we have for violence. Why do we only cry "violence isn't the answer" when someone who doesn't benefit the profit of the state does it but in any other case they were acting alone or defending themselves or "the cycle of violence is complicated and theirs nothing we can do about it"?
When Russia invaded Ukraine , claiming it was there territory actually and that they were freeing it from terrorism, we were record breaking levels of fast to call Putin out on his bullshit. In an unpresidented display of across the table unanimity we agreed to fight Russia. We also still viewed the Russians as victims and not as a monolith.
We associated it with the other times we've faught in Europe. WW1 and WW2 , times we have glorified to high hell and back as the war the USA taught valiantly in single handedly and definitely did nothing wrong. It was the last time we faught a unanimously "good" war. The Nazis were evil and we killed them...we definitely didn't join the war late. Inspire gas chambers and sell them tanks...and uh...what we did to Asia....well uh...we had too, war is messy and we picked the greater good. Now shut up before I send you to the principal and finish up that 5 page report on WHY we did the right thing when we dropped that bomb... And that other bomb.
When Israel invaded Palestine , claiming it was their territory actually and they were freeing it from terrorism ...we sided with them and stood by for 75 years as they became that theofacist ethnonation . They committed a genocide, they nearly erraticated the Palestinians. How many babies do you think died in their holy war?
Then word gets out that some of them killed babies in retaliation. I'm yet to see any evidence of this but it instantly got the whole UA up in arms . They viewed the entire rebellion as the same. All of our anti propaganda training just whent out the window in a second. Where's the "they were acting alone" or the "liberation is messy" or the "wrong on both sides "?
No. I don't condone war. There is no such thing as good war. It's always fucked.
But I find it insanely hypocritical, entitled and audacious to even use the word "condone".
This is an excellent example of people getting angry only when people fight back.
It would be remice of me to tell these people "yes I know they started it, but don't you dare try to end it, just sit there and take it because violence is wrong even when other people do it".
Who the hell am I to say anything?
At least I'm philosopically consistent. Are you? How do you neutralize the contradictions the government makes about violence?

had a movie marathon of both indiana jones and the dial of destiny & mission impossible dead reckoning part 1 and yes, in a bid to revive my account i will be posting movie reviews of BOTH movies. will link the mi7 review above!
let me preface this by saying that i have NOT watched any of the previous indiana jones movies, but i do know that the indiana jones character is a cultural icon that has shaped the history of movies. (as well as the iconic soundtrack, of course)
so walking into the theatre, i honestly expected a movie about archaeology, and an action movie about archaeologists, people hired trying to gain back stolen / looted artifacts for display on museums, and maybe a little parallel to a lesser known form of cultural theft that is still very prevalent in our world today through artifacts smuggling.
never would i have expected to only be 1/4 right with my guess. as the movie opened, showing the action scene between indy, basil & the nazis, immediately i was hooked as the storyline involved some form of history. never would have thought this movie would do it all, from going on a global chase, to ww2, even going back in time to meet FREAKING ARCHIMEDES IN PERSON.
and i'm sure that most of the characters on indy's side have actually appeared in the previous movies in the franchise, and the actors have reprised their roles. yet the story doesn't fully depend on it, making it easy for new watchers like myself to still be able to follow along the plot.
final rating: 7.2/10, good movie jam packed with action scenes. however, certain plot lines seemed ridiculous, like letting teddy (a freaking kid) fly a plane, going back in time to see ARCHIMEDES
also i thought we we're going to see more of indy's whip action because it's literally his go to tool, no?

so total derailment of this that is aimed at USA people specifically, but there's this fun thing called the Legal Tender act of 1863 where 'greenbacks' (our paper notes of today) were declared legal tender.
Theres a lot of history to be talked about that Im not gonna deal with but basically the USA was running out of coins at the time and really needed a cash system
Legal tender, now what does that mean? (preface im not an economist or a lawyer so no quoting me. i am the man on the street corner screaming)
Legal tender is a technical term !~~ and it should be on all the paper money Americans have. It is defined as: coins or banknotes that must be accepted if offered in payment of a debt. It especially means that the government is declaring that this money, is money!! despite not being backed by gold/silver coinage. And it has to be accepted for all debts private or public aside from imports but shushhh I'm focusing here. (depicted below, my main man George Washington and the legal tender note circled on his left))
Tumblr media
so technically if someone says, Hi! this ice cream is 5 dollars. and you offer them a five dollar bill for that debt, legally speaking, they have to take it as the currency you are paying with. They cannot insist that you pay with gold equivalent to that amount. There were a few legal cases about payouts where it was reinforced that greenbacks are legal tender (and a scuffle with the supreme court that was resolved later but also shush)
Now where my brain is angy. the places that insist you have to pay with card. I hate them. Sorry a bit biased here. I like cash. it feels more real to spend and also it will always work. No possibility of a chip malfunction or your account being over-drafted with my nice crisp 5 dollar bill!~
And Im talking a brick-and-mortar sort of place for this. and yes I understand the pandemic shifted a lot of stuff. But also. My money should still hold value. The government has it written as legal tender, and thus able to cover my debt. so I'm not sure how these places are getting away with saying it cannot cover my debt. and if they cannot handle cash at their business, I'm gonna be a little mean and say maybe they cannot handle business.
It puts so many problems out there to have all money only be digital. that I'm not going into because, derailment, and also my personal finance course I took a while back will force me to reread stuff. Back to the original point!
Im not sure if anyone has taken these businesses to task over their card only policies. and if they did, its prolly still in the court system nowish. I personally think that the stores should lose for refusing to let the debt be resolved using legal tender. (@ me if there is a legal case, I'm bad with modern news)
But hey! I might be wrong about everything and legal tender means nothing!
(side note, a lot of modern us economics was shaped around 1863ish and again during and post ww1 and ww2, funny how wars do that ey? Also also I'm sorry for my rant. hope it helped someone~
...
I should not late night post.
having cash is like having secret money. like whos gonna find out i’m buying tacos with this crisp $20 bill??? not my bank account, that’s for sure

Atp i don't know if i shoul speak in english or in portuguese, i don't know if i misunderstood but you don't understand it? So, Cabo Verde anon here, and i don't want to offend you but i don't think you know the real history of this country. First of all, almost no one from here wanted independence and in fact it was outside pressure (as usual from the US mainly) that made Portugal do it, despite the fact our situation wasn't like Angola or Moçambique at all. You see, the only reason we had our independence but Madeira and Açores didn't was because, you guessed it, we weren't white like them, and all of these regions wanted to still be part of Portugal. So basically the though process was "they're black so they aren't part of Portugal anymore" you see how shitty it was? It doesn't help that outside our country the narrative was made by certain countries (again mainly the US) trying to dictate what Portugal should and shouldn't do anymore. Like it definitely didn't respect the people's wishes.
Hiiii!! You can speak whatever you want on here, but I’ll mainly respond in English cuz I don’t want to fuck up what I say, sorry abt that🩷also wanna preface by saying a lot of my information isn’t just from relatives but by CV historians as well. They also grew up in colonial CV
I agree with you, but I also disagree that “almost no one wanted independence”. Ik this sounds so stupid bc I haven’t have the first hand experience, but almost all of my relatives on my dads side that I know are old enough to remember pre independence CV. To say most people, including those who struggled at the hands of the Portuguese regime, including my father, is insane to me😭. I will say however PAIGC definitely had a ton of western (or better yet USA) influence so yeah I agree again with you on that point. But you cannot tell me that CV’s unstable ass economy alone under Portugal was not reason enough for independence. And we cannot ignore that many Cabo Verdeans helped Guinea-Bissau with their own revolution, bc the reality was that they were living up a DICTATORSHIP. But yes I’m aware of the racist reasons that aided in independence.
According to my father, the “people’s wishes” did and still do depend on the persons situation and also the island which they reside on.
Anyways yeah I agree with you to some extent, and maybe my father and relatives are all biased but idk the horrible things they told me about their upbringings (some during and after ww2) have given me a base for my opinions.

That reblog rlly resonate with me as an italian cuz a lot of ppl that voted for Giorgia Meloni where in thier 20s
The worst part is that Giorgia Meloni herself might have been brainwashed and manipulated as a teenager herself.
Long story short, after WW2 a lot of fascists fled to the MSI party and became Neo-Fascists in order to reintegrate themselves in society and maintain their beliefs without being punished or condemned for that. Due to the fact that the next decades in Italy were characterized by a more socialist oraginazation, the Neo-Fascists of the MSI understood that they have to find a way to attract the youth so that the image of Mussolini could still be preserved even many years after his death. And because Lord of the Rings was the most famous book series for teenagers and young adults at that time they searched for an italian edition of Lord of the Rings prefaced by the fascist philosopher Zolla, who considered Tolkien to be an adept of Fascism and tried to include him and his written works in his ideology. In this way, they were able to use Lord of the Rings as a way to camouflage their real ideals and beliefs. 15yo Georgia Meloni was part of the younger generation that got attracted by these ideas and joined the MSI, to the point where she considered Lord of the Rings to be not just Fantasy by actual sacred texts.

I watched a documentary on WW2, and every single mention of the Soviet Union is always prefaced with demonization and even appropriating "The Asiatic Hordes" rhetoric.

K rewatched it and I believe it even more now cause even before that bit we had lines like "our neutral weapon industry" indicating the swiss may say they're neutral but that doesn't stop them from producing weapons and stuff
And they preface the bit with a tongue in cheek line "like the swiss eurovision is [...] strictly neutral" when the swiss have always claimed neutrality (and have been military wise) but also always willingly profited from the wars see e.g. gold business during ww2
But maybe I'm just delulu and want it to be like that cause I like the hosting so much idk
Okay but maybe I want to put it into a good light cause I like the hosts so much but the "good or brutal" line seemed to me like it was actually critizising the hypocrisy of the EBU somewhat or at least as much as they could with the EBU breathing down their neck
Plus being commentary how the swiss are always seen as neutral but how that neutral position is built on the ignorance of brutal acts and stuff
