i saw a post saying boom was good bc it feels like it could be done with any doctor/companion duo and honestly that was one of the things i felt was wrong with it

#in a show with a title character that could be Literally Anyone and a companion sharing the lead that could be Literally Anyone #i value the little moments that set this duo apart from the rest. ESPECIALLY when it comes to returning writers like rtd/moff #fifteen and ruby felt a little too eleven/twelve and clara adjacent in boom. in both their dialogue and characterization #space babies also landed a little weird at first bc it lifted a bit from end of the world BUT the scenes that fifteen and ruby #had to themselves. like ruby getting covered in snot and fifteen laughing. or fifteen and ruby looking after the Space Babies #or fifteen going out of his way to save the monster bc that monster is the only one of its kind Just Like Him Fr #that stuff is so good and its also something we haven't seen from another nuwho doctor. the vulnerable bleeding-heart empathy #and a dynamic w a companion that is basically 'two troublemakers that just deeply love fun and adventure and getting into trouble together'#oh yeah and also the devil's chord was peak fiction because it touches on fifteen's renewed connection and love for humanity #and marries it to ruby being a musician and how music like any art is the expression of the human soul etc etc #WHAT MAKES A DOCTOR WHO STORY GOOD TO ME IS PARTLY HOW THE PREMISE TIES INTO THE DOCTOR AND COMPANION'S CHARACTERS #IT HAS TO FEEL LIKE IT WAS TAILOR MADE TO THEM. ELSE IT WONT LAND RIGHT TO ME #i hate the take that they should've saved wild blue yonder for a fifteen episode bc #the tension is hinged on how well the doctor/companion know each other. u have a level of it that u can ONLY get #with fourteen and donna who are two halves of a whole soul but have also spent much more time missing the other than knowing them #im not rewatching fifteen's eps rn until a week later when i can watch it w my qpp but #rn i still feel a stronger sense of fifteen and ruby's characters from all the rtd-written eps rather moffat #which like. i get that a lot of that is my personal dislike of moffat's writing style but still #dr who #15 era #dw spoilers

watched the first ep of Dead Boy Detectives today, did anyone also think the dialogue was a bit clunky?

I don't mean it was unwatchable or anything i just feel like it didn't feel realistic the way they introduced the characters and world... It felt like the dialogue was for the viewer instead of an in character thing. We were gonna be introduced to a viewer surrogate within the first few minutes, there was no need to have the characters who already know how the show's world works spell it out for nobody... and then explain it again when Crystal showed up? idk it felt like something I would write (not a complient) 😅

#the line ''we have to hide from death... or she'll get us'' was ridiculous #do you think the boy that's been escaping death since 1919 or whatever doesn't know?!#''we have to hide'' was enough the viewer can put 2 and 2 together and deduce it's bad if death sees them #to then minnutes later have them explain to crystal why they have to hide from death again...#just let the characters adress the camera if you wanna spell it out so easily #or you know... trust that the viewer is intelligent enough to wait 2 minutes for an explanation?#it was mostly just that first few mins of the first ep i think #i didn't pick up on anything else that trully bothered me #but idk it felt condecending dkjfghkdfg or simply badly written #which it was a bit of a let down to have it as a very first impression #i guess i went in thinking sandman and got like idk generic teen show #in the dialogue alone btw i actually really like the characters and the premise is awesome!#it just cuaght me by surprise #maybe it because i'm also watching fallout and the dialogue on that is like very well done and everything is a hint for something later #so i'm comparing it idk #anyways... is it just me? or was it actually clunky?#(don't spoil it past ep 1 pls)#angel talks #dead boy detectives #really liking it so far tho!

I love that there’s an ending to New Vegas where you and Benny are just kinda together? (Not that I would ever…)

You meet up with him, you hey-hey, you don’t kill him. He runs off, leaving that creepy love note. You gain custody of his robo-child. Then you meet up at the Fort and you could make fun of him and be mean, but you could also just like… tell him you had a good time? And he appreciates it? And then if you free him and he survives the game I guess that means you’re dating now.

writing fluff is so hard esp for a character you haven’t written for before + other characters in the fic 😭

#satoru i’m abt to get real acquainted w you in this fic #so far it just all sounds v corny and not at all like how satoru sounds so i need to rework everything #also it’s so hard to segue into another part of the fic or just another paragraph for me so i need to practice FLOW #and NOT make it choppy/clunky #and i also have to find voices for tsumiki & megumi 😭 miki’s is pretty easy she’s sweet & playfully teasing #wanna make megs adorable yet slightly grumpy bc i know he’s mature but i still want a childish vibe for him hmmmm #i’m actually… SURPRISNGLY. having a LOT of trouble w the ‘reader’ themselves #i just can’t seem to find their dynamic w each character yet… hmmmmmm #y’know what i may have to do… keep the beginning part but scrap everything else and start fresh #sighhhhhhhh.#i’m willing to do that though bc this story so far isn’t hitting the way i want it to #and i love the Premise of the fic a lot and want to do it TOTAL justice #like it’s serious business to me 😭 i don’t play around when it comes to this omfg like i HAVE FUN but i want it to be decently written too #gonna need to insert more personality to each character + their DIALOGUE TOO omg dialogue is so fucking hard & speech tags are so blegh #i actually might dream on it tonight and imagine how it would realistically play out in my head and then go back to fic writing #yeah i’ll do that it’s 9:30 pm rn basically so i’ll just dream on it 😭#personal

the cons, for me, as a picky reader as well as being a writer when it comes to reading fics as bedtime (i.e. 1am) stories is: a. the fic is so good I can't stop thinking about it which will then inspire me to continue a WIP or create a new idea entirely OR b. the fic isn't written well or is just not the best (again: for me, miss picky reader) which would then inspire me to continue a WIP or create a new idea entirely. Either way, I'm not getting any sleep so the term "bedtime story" is lost on me bc I'm more wired than ever before

#the only fics that out me to sleep are mine aksksks #solely bc i already know what's going to happen #so the excitement and need to know more isn't there #i'm not trying to sound arrogant or anything #bc my writing ain't shit either #but u know when an idea or premise of a fic #is so soooo promising and has so much potential #but the execution just....doesn't quite hit??#and I mean like #scenes or dialouge or words that throw you off so much #*dialogue #bc u have no idea where it came from #like there's fics I've read where an argument would occur #and i'm scrolling back up like #did I miss a chapter or something???#bc it honestly is just so random sometimes 😭#anyways it's 3am #I should sleep sksksks #ramblings

i read 'the gender of mona lisa' and i feel. both extremely seen and yet incredibly infuriated

#the gender of mona lisa #SPOILERS in the tags but uh #the whole premise is that in this world people dont have a defined sex until they turn 12 #and the main character is 18 and hasn't gotten a sex yet #and also their two best friends (one guy one girl) confessed to them at the same time #and it's a really nice story and dialogue where they're conflicted on what they want to be and why can't they just stay the same #and if choosing either one of their friends means they need to adhere to one gender or the other #there's also a caveat where if you don't choose to a sex (by hormone treatments if your body doesn't present as one sex) by age 20 #then 'something bad' will happen i.e: you die #it's thought provoking and sad at times but also very frustrating. i get the author is japanese and this is very much a sort of reflection #on japanese ideals of sex and gender...and a more open reflection at that #considering how there's a lot of questioning on what DEFINES femininity and masculinity #but i dont like how the author makes it out that not choosing it this horrible tragic thing. and that you can be one or the other #but still have interchangeable feminine or masculine traits which is fine!! be a girl with boy interests and vice versa #and also enraging as hell. like ive seen this rhetoric from terfs where theyre like. 'dont be trans!! just be a lil girly or boyish!!'#the one character that was written who DIDNT choose to be one or the other killed themself which was? really really saddening #and also pissed me the hell off!!! this shouldnt be a punishment!!!!!#man..........oh well. i digress. it was an interesting read despite it all

LOGIC – Along with Coach and Sparks – Flighty and Fingers too, I suppose – they're why you have trouble sitting still for long periods of time. The attention deficiency disorder... Or are they exacerbated by it? I still haven't figured out which is the cause and which is the effect...

REACTION SPEED – Point is, we got zoomies! Can't sit still. Always more to do, more to see, more to say.

YOU – "Are you why my leg is always-"

REACTION SPEED – Bouncing, yep! Fingers tapping, hands flapping, feet moving, words flying- hey, if you had wings like me, we'd never be touching ground.

YOU – "You have wings?"

It is in the works...I've had trouble siting down and putting my mind to anything for awhile but I am determined to lock in for this chapter...which is set during lockdown (haha, see what I did there?)

Well this is what you might call the pitch..or the write up, basically close to final form really:

No, I'm kidding. I do not remember writing the Covid makes you gay thing lol but it will be set in the early months of the Pandemic and kinda filling in the gap from the beginning of the lockdown to before the Election stuff covered in 2020:AYIR. I find that canon dynamic switch insanely interesting, and since this fic is trying to stay close to canon with the addition of *they've been fucking the entire goddamn time* it seems only logical to make those gay wannabe pop star cowboys get drunk on tequila and fuck it out.

I'm glad there are fans of this one out there! It's a lot of fun for me to try and write out their canon dynamic in this way and I've really been jonesing to write my own lockdown fic for awhile now, so as the ideas are bouncing around in my brain I will spew them out onto paper for anyone who's interested in reading

the minute I open my laptop I forget every word I've ever learned and cannot form a single sentence coherent or not but the second I close my laptop synapses start firing and I can come with ideas and entire chapter plots and dialogue at lightning speed but the second I even think abt writing any of it down my brain shuts down again

#i write sometimes #why is this happening???? it is evil. and I do not deserve this.#I am having such a bad time w/like brain fog or whatever rn now too due to *gestures at life* that like #I USED to be able to get an idea and keep it perfectly intact for DAYS. dialogue snippet whole chapter premise. you name it.#I could dream it up and I'd be able to revisit it and then write it days later #now it's like waving at an idea as it shrinks into the distance and I'm not allowed to try document at all or it'll combust #and I just end up staring at a word doc and only getting like a couple hundred words at best in HOURS and it feels so DEFEATING #makes me wanna give up again
