Lifespan (accessible vers.)
Have you read the Premise of his sandbox already? The basic Setting Info? If not, please click here! You should read them first!
Tumblr media
Since the Great Reveal, Humans have developed expanded lifespans. This is believed to be due to acute exposure to magic in high concentrations during the events. Following a short period of illness, most found themselves with additional resistances to certain disease types and ailments; healing and recovery of physical injuries and ailments, by comparison, take less time. The improved resilience alone immediately opened up new medical possibilities in terms of treatement and surviveability for those already suffering from conditions, disorders and other afflictions caused by changes in the body.
In general, Humans now live approximately twice as long on average.
Extended lifespan puts Humans on par with many other creatures in society, and has profoundly affected quality of life in areas like education, career possibilities, and family; as well as other areas of societal structure and foundation.
Here is a list of some races and their general lifespan averages, for comparison. This data is still in the early stages of assessment, and considered to be skewed greatly due to lack of official documentation and much of the evidence being currently unverifiable. The ranges listed here all considered to be approximate.
In Years
Humans: 170-180
Demons (across many types): 250-500
Elves: 500-700
Vampire: N/A; there are few records for how long certain vampires have lived, or their causes of death
Orcs: 250
Dragons: 500+
Naga: 800
Fae: N/A; not much is known about the lifespan of Fae. There also seems to be a large difference between the handful of Fae who decided to stay behind after The Great Reveal, and those visiting from beyond the Veil.
"Chimera-Types" (Harpies, -taurs, Satyrs, Kelpies, Sirens, Kitsune, etc.): 700
Most other creatures hover at lifespans between 200-400 years **NOTE: There are direct correlations between magical potency and rate of reproduction, as well as lifespan and rate of reproduction. Races that tend to live longer have very low rates of reproduction outside of medical assistance, which is heavily regulated.

here it is! welcome to connor dewar 101 the other slides are under the cut!
you may have to zoom in to read them! i was doing my best with the space i had!
Tumblr media
his family lives in winnipeg now but he still visits the pas in the summer! in his becoming wild (which you can find on youtube), he talks about his love for clearwater lake which is located northeast of the pas!
Tumblr media
also in his playing career, he has made it to the playoffs with the wild twice, and has worn jersey numbers #52 and #26, and reportedly will wear #24 with the leafs.
Tumblr media
there is definitely more statistical info about him that i don't have on here that you can find if that type of stuff interests you! he is labelled as a defensive forward, occupying the center position, and usually plays on the bottom six. he was also on the penalty kill for the wild and typically had defensive zone starts.
Tumblr media
to get a better feel for his personality than what i can give you here, i recommend watching his becoming wild video and also his podcast episode on wild on 7th (both can be found on youtube, and the audio version of the podcast can be found wherever you listen to your podcasts). feel free to skip through until the part where he comes in but it's a good video where a lot of this stuff was learned!
connor dewar, you were a mn wild staple and i hope that playing for the leafs treats you as good as it can! leafs fans, i hope this was a satisfactory source of connor dewar lore and that you will cherish him like we have! 🩷

They also did a podcast together, but it was a very painful watch/listen. But it had some fun moments like:
Connor staring at Kevin whenever Kev is talking (okay that was is specifically for ME)
Connor being surprised Kevin has never heard of Annie (the musical)
Connor also rolling his eyes when Kevin mentions Saskatoon
Also they’ve been described as the hawks; Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar. Which I haven’t been normal about the day I read that (and for the life of me I can’t find the article)

new babygirl unlocked!! and he has HAIR!!!!!!
Tumblr media
[ID: Photo of Los Angeles Kings prospect Aatu Jämsen in his Pelicans uniform. His hair is backlit to almost seem white, and streams out from under his helmet. /. End ID]
oh my GOD!!! new babygirl indeed... its giving barbie its giving goldilocks its giving hair on a my little pony toy... !
Quick notes on Aatu Jämsen. i am quite endeared. he is exactly my type of hockey guy <3
Plays RW! Drafted 2020, round 7, 190th overall. Before signing with the Kings, was playing for the Lahti Pelicans. Bit of a late bloomer, but he's tearing it up lately!! Probably why he got the nod from LA.
Per EP Rinkside, "Players with Jämsen's creativity are a rarity in Liiga. In a league where systems and team-wide strategy are at the forefront, Jämsen stands out with his puck skills and a flair for the dramatic. He's a legitimate dual-threat weapon in the offensive zone, and has also made some slight improvements to his physical game; a necessity if he wants to try to conquer North America next season."
So he's known for being very flashy. Quick, soft hands. Creative. Highlight reel stuff. GOATED on the shootout, apparently always trying crazy dangles in game... I'm SURE this type of prospect will be fine in the LA Kings system (<- lying but hopeful!! aslkdaskjl)
Here he is bullying the shit out of NHL24 champ/youtuber/ex-goalie Eki in the shootout. he yells "KUCHEROV" in triumph at one point after scoring on this guy who (checks notes) laced up skates to play goalie 2 times in the last 4 years - and i think that's so fucking lame and deeply charming.
and I am not surprised at all; he is VERY popular in the Finnish league.
Last month he got into a fight with Tampereen Tappara's Otto Rauhala. VERY unexpected, he's not a fighter at all. Rough google translate from this article, cleaned up a little by me:
Interviewer: What happened there? Jämsen: I don't know. Interviewer: So would you say Rauhala started it? Jämsen: You could say. I didn't appreciate his check in the first period of the game. Nothing more than that."
This is whole exchange is SO funny to me. what happened? he doesn't know. but if he had to say? then that guy fucking started it!!! but that's all <3 LMAO
Tumblr media
HE MOONLIGHTS AS A RAP MUSICIAN. HELLO. His stage name is KIDJAM$EN kjlasdkljadlak HELP..,, here is one of his songs set to a short looping montage of Pelicans hockey players.. i think its a playoffs hype song??? I cannot understand a word of it. it DOES bang though!!! He plans to pursue music as a career if hockey doesn't work out. jumping from one risky career to another with no fear honestly go off!!! faith trust and pixie dust <3
everything about him i can dig up is like He's SOO flashy. eccentric. strange creachture. He bleaches his hair to get it that light. he did it to imitate Otto Salin, per this article. The picture is worth a thousand words tbh:
Tumblr media
the fucking. LV sweater. the sunglasses. the coy look up at the camera. okay!!! cunt !!! <3
In the same article: he got very serious about nutrition and exercise last season after coming back from a break and getting BLASTED by his coaches for being out of shape. from the sounds of it, this dressing-down triggered his current meteoric rise? He was nawwwt taking his conditioning seriously before this. Since then, he's gained weight and become stronger, and has dedicated himself fully to going pro!
same article again: he's the scion of a hockey family - and god isnt that always the story?? His dad played for the Pelicans. his brothers Juuso and Vili also play hockey. The three have distinct play styles like a cute little set <3 Juuso the goal scorer, Aatu the playmaker, and Vili the GOON!!!
ough MIDDLE CHILD ALERT!!! it all makes SO much sense now....
Due to his flashiness on-ice AND off-ice, he naturally is a lightning rod for criticism. ice hockey is notoriously conservative as a culture and everything about him goes against this. Jams... Jammie... Jammer... idk what to call you BUT. your swag too different your slay too cunty, they're trying to kill you but you wont let them!!!!!
it seems instead of pivoting and making himself more palatable, he's only doubled down. i love and support him for this. if anyone has been on my blog they know i enjoy my guys with big personalities just as much as i love the quiet/underrated ones.
in conclusion, WELCOME TO LA. YOU ARE PERFECT FOR THIS TOWN, GORGEOUS <3

so this post by @icebluecyanide greatly brings to attention how the majority of languages in the world don't have gender marking for pronouns, though the list in it is pretty limited. it's understandable not to know these things depending on what languages you speak or are exposed to, and the reblogs (while they do have the spirit) are a bit confused. science education however is my passion so here are some visualizers and clarifications on gender in languages!
first, a look at gender marking in pronouns.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
as pointed out in the post, it is uncommon to have gender marking in pronouns - only about 30% of languages do it, while the vast majority of languages omits the distinction. you'd be forgiven for finding this surprising! gender opposition in pronouns is common in european languages, with africa being another prominent area for gender marking. gender distinction in pronouns is usually sex-based (masculine and feminine and sometimes neuter(s)).
next, to address the confusion in the reblogs! the last reblog spoke of number marking in pronouns, or "the amount of subjects". they mention differentiation between two or more subjects (dual-plural) and whether the speaker or listener (or both) are included (inclusivity-exclusivity). grammatical number and clusivity vary in languages, and even more distinctions exist than mentioned! but as they are separate from gender, i won't get into them here.
one reblog by @assuming-dinosaur states that english is "highly unusual among languages in having grammatical gender align so precisely with the social concept of gender". they also mention multiple interrelated phenomena related to noun class/gender systems. clarifications:
languages vary in how grammatical gender/class is assigned to nouns - some languages assign gender solely based on the meaning of the word (e.g. "woman" is feminine), or additionally based on form or pronunciation (e.g. all words ending in "-a" are feminine).
"gender" in linguistics means a system for categorizing nouns, alternatively called "noun class". while these systems can have significant overlap with the social and cultural concepts of gender/sex, as mentioned in the reblog, there are lots of systems whose criteria for noun categorization are unrelated to "natural gender". in addition to sex and pronunciation as factors in assigning grammatical gender, grambank features factors such as shape, animacy and plant-status.
modern english does not, for the most part, have grammatical gender, so it's a bit silly to compare its pronouns to languages with wider-reaching gender systems. as stated above, the masculine/feminine/neuter distinction in pronouns is very common worldwide. and even in english, the alignment isn't 100% precise - e.g. ships and churches may also be referred to as "she".
many languages have a gender system that utilizes multiple factors for noun class assignment. of languages with gender systems in wals's sample, a majority include some sex-based distinction. all non-sex-based systems in the sample were based on some kind of animacy, most often human vs. non-human, or animate vs. inanimate. there's plenty of variation in what is considered animate, though! (in sumerian, for example, humans, gods, and statues (sometimes) were animate, while slaves, among others, were classified as inanimate.)
and yet, after such a long ramble on gender systems, let us remember that languages with gender/noun class systems are in the minority.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ending on this lovely map demonstrating on one hand how common it is to not have grammatical gender, and on the other, the variety of existing gender systems!
all maps and articles linked here are from wals, the world atlas of language structures, as well as grambank, two wonderful typological databases. wals's language sample size is quite small, but the maps and articles are still very useful and informative for typological comparison. for a larger sample size visit grambank! here's their article on gender in third person pronouns and sex-based noun class systems.

I made this Pride Month primer for work, and thought y'all might enjoy it, too. It's meant to be just the VERY BASICS, and does not cover everything. Feel free to ask questions, though I'm not an authority. There are lots of other great resources out there!
Transcript below:
Pride Primer
History:
Pride started as The Stonewall Riots, which began on June 28, 1969 when New York City police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay club located in Greenwich Village in New York City. This served as a catalyst for the gay rights movement in the United States and around the world. (from History.com)
Purpose:
Pride is a protest against those that oppose the rights and freedoms of the LGBTQIA+ community
Pride is a statement: LGBTQIA+ people have always existed and always will
Pride is a reminder to never take our rights for granted
Pride is an opportunity to educate and liberate
LGBTQIA+ Definition
Lesbian: Women who are exclusively attracted, sexually or romantically, to other women.
Gay: Umbrella term for homosexuality and/or
men who are exclusively attracted, sexually or romantically, to other men.
Bi: A person who is attracted, romantically or sexually, to two or more genders.
Trans: A person whose gender identity does not match with the gender assigned at birth.
Queer: Umbrella term for anyone whose sexual or gender identity does not match established heterosexual norms.
Intersex: A person born with a combination of male and female biological traits.
Ace: Umbrella term for a person who does not experience sexual and/or romantic attraction to anyone.
Plus: A catch-all for all other related identities in the community.
Sex and Gender
Biology:
Sex is generally defined as male, female, or intersex, dependent on chromosomes, hormones, and reproductive organs. As complex, biological organisms, humans can and do exist anywhere within these metrics. Intersex individuals are as common as being a natural red head. For example, PCOS is a genetic condition that is considered intersex, as it affects a person’s hormones in development. Sex is biological, gender is a social construct, and varies from culture to culture.
Identity:
CIS: A person whose identity matches their assigned gender at birth
Non-Binary: An umbrella term for someone whose identity does not fit in the male/female gender binary
Trans: A person whose identity does not match their assigned gender at birth; they may or may not take steps to physically match said identity
Everyone has pronouns. Some common ones are: he/him, she/her, and they/them.
Attraction
Sexual and Romantic
Attraction has two components, sexual and romantic. A person can be any combination, and some of the most common types are:
Heterosexual/Heteromantic: exclusively attracted to the opposite gender
Homosexual/Homoromantic: exclusively attracted to the same gender
Bisexual/Biromantic: exclusively attracted to two or more genders
Pansexual/Panromantic: attraction without regard to gender
Demisexual/Demiromantic: attraction ONLY with a strong emotional bond
Asexual/Aromantic: no attraction for any gender, no interest in a romantic relationship
For example, a person may be asexual/heteromantic, meaning that they have little to no desire for sex, but are interested/open to a romantic relationship with someone of the opposite gender.

Setting Info (accessible ver.)
[IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN KNOWING MORE ABOUT WHAT LIFE IN THIS UNIVERSE IS LIKE, THIS IS THE RIGHT PLACE! WHAT YOU'LL FIND BELOW ARE DESCRIPTIONS OF THINGS PEOPLE ARE USED TO SEEING AND INTERACTING WITH IN THIS SETTING.]
Tumblr media
Every Day Life
a summary
Obviously, culture is different across locations and people, but this is going to be a broad stroke sort of description centered mostly on the Big City that is the main focus of the sandbox. For a more in-depth look at "other places" and general culture, feel free to click the links at the end of each section below.
OVERVIEW
Day to day life for most is a mix of technology and magic present in almost every major city and accessible when interacting with public-facing tools and inventions even if not owned privately. Interactive holograms, clothing and material charmed for durability (or simply made of more durable materials) abound, though some come with a cost that isn't always accessible. Potions are regulated in a similar manner to medicine depending on the effect. Generally, financial class can be determined by where a person lives and the degree to which technology is present in their private life. Magical ability also plays into personal comfort, as sometimes capability with magic can make up for more expensive comforts in one-off circumstances.
Most of the persisting world infrastructure is modeled on pre-existing Human standards, though some things are augmented to take into account changes resulting from the The Great Reveal (what people call the event involving the merging of planes and large influx of magic and magical creatures to Earth in 2014). The event was not altogther a peaceful one, and there was systemic damage to cities and civilized areas that had to be rebuilt. Many major cities are unrecognizable from previous skylines. There are new islands, fault lines, mountain ranges, and some ecosystems have been forever altered for both better and worse due to the influx of magic and its effect on the earth. There are many locations that have still not been explored to the fullest, even if the most threatening dangers have been subdued; doing so is quite a lucrative (albeit risky) career path.
In general, buildings and locations are human-sized; more often than not, non-humans Glamour themselves when out and about for the convenience of others (certain body heights and shapes are outlawed in public, for example). This goes doubly or triply for slaves while out in public. There are some locations, districts, neighborhoods and grounds that are large and/or cater to the natural sizes of some creatures, such as demons and weres (those with 'blood curses'), but they and their perimeters are clearly marked and cost is certainly a factor in occupying these coveted spaces. It's very expensive to commission a building for these purposes, so many of these places are leisure resorts or businesses that cater to peoples of specific race or culture, to boast comfort and accomodation. (However, there are regulated limits for these as well, depending on certain factors like occupancy numbers, potential for collateral damage, etc.). While there are exceptions for calamitous events and self-defense, the cases in which someone could get away with this (especially in a public space) is extremely rare.
Due to the influx of population of other races and peoples to Earth during The Great Reveal, cities often have "Upper Levels" or "Islands" added to them to accommodate more people. These are floating districts that are akin to suburbs; they house some of modern architecture of the age in the form of homes, apartments, parks and office building. The style of these buildings are more modular and glossy. Actually owning real estate is a matter of wealth or extraordinary luck, and owning a home rather than staying in a massive apartment building is a slightly lesser flex.
Slaves and services rendered by them (under the eye of watchful masters) are pervasive, especially in the upper and lower most echelons of society. They are a class defined (using that term loosely) by four circumstances: 1) those captured during The Great Reveal, proven to have had intent to cause harm to the planet and its citizens during that time, 2) off-spring of those creatures, 3) those who "agree" to enter and be registered as slave status voluntarily, (unfortunately, this often includes children whose parents or guardians abandon or sell them), and 4) unprotected illegals; for these reasons, it's fairly rare to see Humans sold or traded on the market. They represent amassed wealth at least and are symbols of status at most. The acquisition and distribution of them are regulated, though not much else is (regarding personal treatment). Many fill service jobs and service families and estates, and usually regarded as an invisible part of the backdrop of life. They are a very controversial topic, of course, and they deserve their own post. It should be noted however, that worldwide, slavery systems are sometimes coded differently socially, and occasionally this causes culture clashes.
There's no shortage of vices to be found, of course, and the integration of magic and tech has been the catalyst for some interesting engineering with just about anything that can be imbibed. Clubs are lucrative, especially for elitist Masters who want to mingle with like-minded people and drown themselves in decadence while they flaunt their status. It's possible to find ones for any sort of theme or vibe. Some leisurely retreats are in fact segregated depending on the services that they offer, as there are some intoxicants that are either too potent or deadly for Humans to consume.

this is. probably a very personal question.
Is it worth it? Transitioning? In spite of it all?
Completely, utterly, and absolutely. I’m one of those ppl who knew i was trans since i was like 8. I found out when i was probably 13/14 what transgender meant, but recoiled from it because i could not imagine a world that would accept me or where i would be happy with the result. At 15 i met my first other trans person, and they became my friend and partner and the first person to ever know i was trans. Being around them, known by them, was such a colossal psychological relief and source of joy unlike anything i had known before. It made separating from them after graduation all the more excruciating to lose that one person i had trusted with that truth.
Sometime over the next two years i came out to my Mom, but nothing really changed, and i had more or less resolved to rot and die under the identity i had been born into. I let my undergrad studies chew me up, neglected all but the most necessary body maintenance, and spent every moment outside work or class buried in video games or books. At some point something snapped out of place, or perhaps back into place. I knew i didn’t want to die like this. I wanted something more for my life and my flesh than being a half dead servitor stocking yogurt. I wanted to transition, and however slowly, however long it took, that’s what i resolved to do.
It took a while. I had no real finances, no privacy, and little independence. I was coming from a white low-self-expression, high-control household. I “messed up” while base coating warhammer models one time and gave myself black nails. My dad berated me about it for days before trying to pin my hands down and sand the paint off (didn’t work, thank you automotive primer). When i was ~22 i got my ears pierced, basically the first permanent part of my transition, and i had never known as much joy as i did driving home knowing the pain was a step of permanent progress. Around this time 2019/2020 i started being out online, more vocal about being transgender as opposed to just having a relatively inexpressive fandom blog with no info beyond my name.
When i was 24, two years ago i came out to my dad, and a week later i left for grad school halfway across the country. I had an apartment all to myself, and my own source of income. I spent my spare change building up a wardrobe of new clothes that i actually liked. I got my first year of grad school done mostly without anything remarkable. Went to some queer events at my school. Found a partner. Got loved to bits for a while. Re-came out to my parents over the summer, and this time it stuck. Started HRT that fall, 2023. Came out to my classmates and coworkers and was rewarded with support and acceptance. Lost the partner. Devastated. Resolve to get even hotter and cooler. Smash out 3 piercings and a tattoo inside a week. Develop personal fashion sense. Attend research conference. Get better at makeup. Go to some concerts. Increase HRT. Tiddy Arc. Buy bra with a supportive bestie. Start weekly therapy. Increase HRT. Cosplay at a major convention. Schedule another tattoo. More HRT. Bra no longer optional. Present day. Tattoo on Wednesday. 90% of progress packed into the last year or so. Undeniably hotter, happier, and more self-expressive than anything in the last 24 years prior.
Transitioning is more than worth it, it brings me so much relief and joy every day no matter how shitty my day is otherwise, and while i have known doubt, i have never for an instant known regret.
There is still time🖤🏳️‍⚧️💕
