Pausing the Magic
For the last year I have been blessed to have a letterpress studio at The Fold in Bransford. I have been printing magical cards, prints, posters, bookmarks etc, and running workshops. But my funding is coming to an end and it’s not making enough to sustain itself and me, so I shall be closing on the 7th July. I am making as much stock as possible so I can keep selling online…

My baby Guqin have been kitty certified 🐱👍😂
She was really clingy this morning, wanted to be in the workroom with me (it's noisy and dusty in there so usually her and my teacher's doggo don't like to go back there). I'm impressed this little one seems undaunted by the sound of loud machinery, the saws and sanding machines, she didn't even flinch.

Typography Tuesday
Last month we presented some printer's flowers and electrotype cuts from from Printing from Metal and Wood, handprinted in 1985 by English type and printing enthusiast Mark Arman at his Workshop Press in Thaxted, Essex, in an edition of 145 copies signed by the author/printer. Today we display some of the diverse type specimens from this book.
The subtitle of the book is, Using Hand Presses and 18th & 19th Century Types, Blocks, Electors, and Decorations; The Story of an Obsession with Printing. The content of the book is clearly idiosyncratic to Arman's approach to printing. He writes:
In Paragraphs on Printing, Bruce Rogers said 'The best printing follows traditional lines because printing is a conservative as well as a preservative art.' By making this modest collection of types and blocks, and illustrating them here, I have accepted this principle. Some biographical details, and a few personal anecdotes have been included, for they help explain how printing became an obsession, and why this book had to be printed. It is hoped it will give some pleasure.
Our copy, another donation from the estate of our late friend Dennis Bayuzick, once belonged to the printing historian Richard E. Huss and bears his bookplate.

Fun fact! You may think that the Chaos Knight Ruinator is new kit, but extra-heavy flamers, multiple missile systems and assault drills have been options for loyal knights of the Imperium for some time. Anything is, as long as you're playing with your heart.
Remember, don't ever let anyone tell you that your 3d printed Knight weapons are against the rules. They're just a kit Games Workshop hasn't gotten around to making yet.

So I made a Blood Angel Captain with Jumppack I am meant to be doing DnD painting but I didn't. I did this. Custom head, backpack, arms and pads. I really like how it came out. Don't often say nice things about my own work... Yes I have noticed the wings look like Goldar. Ha.

The Aragorn Collection
Tumblr media
My collection of 3D printed props used by the character Aragorn from The Lord of the Rings.

The ranger sword/sheath, elven knife, and coronation crown were all purchased from BigFredsCustoms on Etsy.
The shard/hilt of Narsil, Evenstar pendant, Lorien brooch, and Ring of Barahir prints are all free on Thingiverse and/or Printables. (I can't remember where I found all of them, but I know I didn't buy them)
Everything was painted by me. The sheaths are slowly rubbing off the blade paint but they complete the look so whatever ya know.

GW doing another price hike, and pushing their luck with nonsense like selling a limited edition Guard command squad for 80 usd. In contrast, a Real Grade RX 78 Gundam kit, totally push fit, injection color plastic and engineered to perfection costs 56 usd. A box of 5 pre assembled Battletech mechs was on sale for 38 usd from a US flgs I randomly found in less than 2 minutes.
You would think after the mass interest generated from SM2 GW would try to entice new hobbyists and collectors. Not gouge the existing customers with FOMO and utterly insane pricing for 32mm minis. The reason 3D printing is so massive, either from people printing their own or buying printed alternatives is the price. Especially crazy with the economic uncertainty that is global.

Here are some arrangements of printer's flowers, a few electrotype cuts, and a wood engraving from Printing from Metal and Wood, handprinted in 1985 by English type and printing enthusiast Mark Arman at his Workshop Press in Thaxted, Essex, in an edition of 145 copies signed by the author/printer. Arman writes:
The purpose of this book is to illustrate and use different type faces , to experiment with those of the 19th century which today would be unfashionable, and to re-create an interest in those wood blocks, fleurons and electros, which were in use at the turn of the century. It is a book concerned with styles of printing and design which are no longer popular, but it is a book which owes its very existence to the author's delight in printing, type, layout and design.
Our copy of this book is another donation from the estate of our late friend Dennis Bayuzick.
