Ollie and Venetia scene #saltburn #edit #viral
youtube
Why were people so freaked out by this movie? Barring the fact that I'm a sicko and *miiight* think this scene is kinda...nice...the themes are indicative of very poorly adjusted people doing the same stuff we've seen in teen movies since forever.

I can't argue with this.
It's a problem with western fantasy fiction in general, going back through medieval literature in The Song of Roland and to Herodotus. It is the writer who put all this there. The problems with the text are due to what it's creator put in.
I love a lot of GRRM's work. I love his worldbuilding in many a place. But in Essos the worldbuilding really falls down a lot. It is basically generic orientalist tropes. And he really could have done better there!
i don’t know if these needs to be said but calling Dany’s slaver’s bay arc orientalist is not a criticism of Dany herself. it is a criticism of GRRM, the white westerner writing it. Dany is not responsible for the orientalist tropes that arise here, any more than say, Lyanna Stark et al are responsible for the disproportionate number of childbirth deaths in the series.
and I am aware that the people of slaver’s bay are of many different races, including white! GRRM has said that many times over. but the thing is that orientalism is not so much about race as it is the east vs the west. so whilst the racial dynamics here may be more ambiguous the juxtaposition of the east and the west is not. it’s in the names of the continents: Westeros, Essos. one is made up of familiar western fantasy and medieval tropes, the other is, well, other, and made up of a range of orientalist tropes. it’s in the food, the clothes, the sex, the accents, the religion, the everything. it is there. we have to reckon with that.
and if people are somehow blaming the presence of these tropes on Daenerys herself, that’s very much on them. it is extremely reductive to use these critiques as your pedestal in a stan war. it only shows that you do not even understand the argument at stake here. but if we refuse to acknowledge the orientalism in the story for the sake of defending a white character: that is also extremely reductive.

I actually thought Honest Hearts was entirely about how trying to play the savior role was causing more problems than it solved? Like, the only way to get the better outcome is to listen to the people and NOT Graham cause he’s just interested in being a holy figure and not in actually paying attention to them as individuals outside of his own quest for atonement that they didn’t ask to be part of. And this echoes back in time with the old man’s logs you can find, where his attempt to help by remaining an outsider just led to miscommunication and isolation that never really stopped.
Like, I can see very easily how people could have problems with it. I don’t wanna excuses that. But I also think the story is aware of the tropes and is actively inviting thought and discussion on them.
hello white fallout new vegas fan. I want to play a game. in front of you is a native american. they are going to list their grievances with the honest hearts dlc. you have to listen without interrupting to justify the writing decisions made by the creators. fail to do this or mention the quality of joshua graham's character writing and the bomb collar around your neck will detonate, just like in the hit game fallout new vegas. live or die the choice is yours

In further adventures of "Hollywood should have just asked us," here are a couple ideas that would make for a decent new version of Snow White. Stone and I came up with them last night.
First off, the dwarves are just normal people for that region. By that I mean dwarfism is commonplace in the kingdom, which we see from various side characters and background extras. These seven are normal folks, not Fantasy Creatures.
Also, they're a family living and working together. Our first thought was seven brothers, but why stop there? Doc is old enough to be the dad. Grumpy can be the uncle. Re-envision some of the others to be the mom and a sister or two. Dopey is the youngest kid, still figuring his way around a pickaxe.
And the other idea is about the kiss. If that magic leads to a "time is paused while we have an adventure elsewhere" kind of otherworldly journey, then Snow White and the Prince can get to know each other properly. They can rescue each other from various dangers in whatever dreamland this is, find out they can actually work together pretty well, and only then does the spell release.
You've got to be drift compatible to take down a sorceress and rule a kingdom. The dwarves will help. There are probably magical gemstones from those mines, not to mention lots of muscles from swinging a pickaxe all day. Hi-ho!

A TV SHOW THAT IS ACTIVELY LEANING INTO THE ANYONE CAN DIE TROPE CANNOT BE DOING THE BURY YOUR GAYS TROPE AT THE SAME TIME
people be gay and when anyone can die that means that some gay people will die! this is not that hard of a concept to grasp! I am so sick of this particular line of discourse!

Being Jewish in fandom is weird sometimes because every now and then Jewish hcs have very different implications based on whether the person making it is Jewish or not. This is about Dr.Doofenshmirtz

I charge $10 per 500 words, give or take depending on the subject matter. Below is a list of what I will and will not write. Subjects with an asterisk will cost a little extra!
. These things are good to go!
Fluff: Dates/blind dates, anniversaries, etc.; pregnancy, childbirth, parenthood; slice of life moments.
Smut: Kinks and fetishes welcome! If what you want isn't included below or in my "what I won't write," just ask!
• Vanilla sex • BD/SM, sado-masochism, bondage, etc. • Pet play (kitten, puppy, pony, pig, etc.) • Bootblacking • Voyeurism/Exhibitionism • Cuckolding/Hotwifing * Knives, guns, fire, e-stim, and other edge/plays * Omorashi, watersports, piss * C/NC, intoxication, kidnapping, etc. * Balloon/looning and other niche fetishes * Oviposition * Age/Play, CG/L, AB/DL
Angst: Ilness or injury; miscommunication; break-ups, divorces, separations; forced marriage (to a antagonist/undesired character); death of a loved one.
. These things are a no!
I will never write things involving sexual or romantic themes of corpses, animals, or underage characters. Requesting or attempting to commission any of these things will result in an automatic block and a ban from ever requesting/commissioning from me again. These are my boundaries and I will not entertain someone trying to cross them.

I think Maguire was kinda faulty with a lot of elements of the book, but the whole Fiyero being discriminated against for his skin, him being the one to fall for Elphaba, who is also demonized for her skin...in this essay I will...

I'm both excited and dreading the Zack Snyder Norse mythology series.
And lol, why is blue-ish one of Loki's most recurrent skin colors? (Probably cus of Marvel tbqh). He looks like a night elf in this.

After watching Dororo 2019 I have a few thoughts:
1: Hyakkimaru is adorable. He's just so awkward and sweet at times. Him nuzzling everything is literally one of the cutest things I've seen.
2: I refuse to acknowledge Jukai, Nui, and Tahomaru's deaths. They survived the fire, and started over, together. Jukai and Nui also gradually fall in love because I think it'd be cute for Hyakkimaru's two mamas to get together. Everyone still THINKS they died, so when Hyakkimaru and Tahomaru see each other again it's awkward, and a surprise. I just want the brothers to love each other!!
3: my fiance and I kept comparing the series to Inuyasha. I think it would be interesting to see a crossover between them. I think Inuyasha would throw Hyakkimaru for a loop lol. But a few interactions I really want: Hyakkimaru and Miroku (I like to emphasize Miroku's kindness and intelligence more than his negative traits, and I think he'd find Hyakkimaru interesting, and Hyakkimaru could have some interesting thoughts on both of them being cursed. however Miroku being a bad influence on Dororo is also extremely funny), Hyakkimaru and Kikyo (both are "half" people. He has half his body and is working to get it back, Kikyo has half her soul, and literally can't get her soul back without killing Kagome. Despite typically being quite gentle and kind, especially to children, she's also supportive of Hyakkimaru's revenge. Honestly I ship it and think it would be cute AF for them to get together. I refuse to ship him with Dororo, because she's a child when they start hinting at it... Nah, that's his kid sister.) and finally, Dororo and Rin (a girl their age to play with! They are both tough little girls who may witness horrors but remain cheerful and love their freakishly violent companion. Also the image of them meeting Sesshomaru would be incredible. He's NOT a good demon, but he doesn't gaf about humans one way or another. I wonder if Hyakkimaru would have enough self preservation to NOT try and fight him)
4: I really got the vibe that Dororo is now in charge of, at LEAST that village at the end (especially since she's the one funding the rebuild) and I, personally, think that's hilarious, so I go with it immediately. I want 10000 stories about Dororo being treated like an authority figure while being like 8, I love it.
5: Hyakkimaru, how did you FUNCTION??? He had a PROSTHETIC SPINE??? First of all: how??? I have to handwave that with weird magic shenanigans because WHAT?

Saw someone say severance is beginning to rely on sexist sci fi tropes because what? A woman is experiencing uniquely female tragedies? Being subjected to testing that strips her of her identity and makes her vulnerable. Yeah thats the fucking point
