A beautiful portrait of Peter Lorre in "You'll Find Out" (1940), a comedy drama hijinks & music film with Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi, and Kay Kyser and his band. Watch it here.

Ignore me, I wanted to draw the medical malpractice gang in 17th century Dutch clothing. In order: Dr Gogol as a surgeon from the guild of surgery, dr Lorentz as an upstanding member of the local militia (he's not allowed to be flag bearer after the… incident), dr Einstein putting the 'barber' in 'surgeon-barber' (he's holding a copper bowl in his hand that was used for washing hair as well as catching blood), and professor Fenninger looking sharp as ever

So I checked the poll, and to my surprise it came out on a tie between obscure Lorre and the Medical Malpractice Gang.
Tumblr media
So I decided to make one more drawing in honour of April Fool's yesterday:
Tumblr media
Dr Gogol is such a fun person to prank

Medical malpractice gang as magical girls. Possibly the sailor scouts but it can be any. I feel like Herman would enjoy the poofy frilly magical girl dress <3
I curse you anon for putting this idea in my head because it wouldn’t let me go until I drew it.
Tumblr media
Noooooo Arthur it makes bad deals
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I've never really watched many magical girls stuff except Symphogear and the occasional Sailor Moon episode so I don't know if these outfits are magical enough but I damn sure had fun drawing them

Types of soup you'd give to Peter Lorre characters/Parodies. They all deserve a soup unique to them!
Hmm very good question. Starting with characters:
Polo would like tomato soup with a grilled cheese sandwich(with the crusts cutoff). He puts two extra spoonfuls of sugar in the sauce. It's simple and sweet, just like him!
Fenningers fancy so he probably eats consommé, a soup I can't conceive of someone eating for any reason other than to feel fancy. Cairo probably would too tbh, but I prefer to imagine him having better taste A.K.A. something very spicey like a nice Tandoori soup or something
Herman would enjoy vegetable soup with a lot of turnip and carrot
Arthur and Cornelius would both enjoy pea and ham soup, but Lorentz likes his with the peas whole and thick cubes of smokey bacon, while leyden purees the peas and substitutes ham with slices of Bavarian wurst
Now for Parodies:
Slappy enjoys clam chowder with seahorse milk. Slippy likes it too, but she's more of a stew girl and prefers shrimp gumbo
Ren is also a consommé enjoyer
Booberry invented his own "desert soup" using the flavoured milk left over from a bowl of his cereal as a base. He likes a good French onion soup aswell though
Hugo loves a good egg drop soup with plenty of scallions

What peter parodies would each member of the medical malpractice gang adopt?
Tumblr media
I feel like Einstein would adopt that Tweety Bird Peter Lorre impression from that Looney Tunes short Carrotblanca. Lorentz and Laszlo feel like they deserve each other. Dr Gogol with dr Lorre from Hair Raising Hare, and finally I think Karl Fenninger and Yetch would be a fun pairing!

Medical malpractice gang babysitting.
For some reason I can see one of them going in depth about organ trafficking when the kids start misbehaving.
When it comes to the one who could actually get along with kids (when he remembers not to be creepy), the answer might surprise you!
Tumblr media
Of course, Gogol might get carried away and tell kids about organ transplants and surgeries, but only because he’s passionate about the subject. As for who would do such a thing deliberately and with malicious intent? The answer wouldn’t surprise you at all!
Tumblr media
As for the other two: dr Einstein is too afraid of kids, and dr Lorentz isn’t interested in them because they don’t have any money.

Back when I first became fixated on petes films I was really keen on the idea that Fenninger and Cairo were the same person

Idk why, probably cause they were among the first few films of his I saw?

Despite their name, the medical malpractice gang sure seem like nice, interesting people~
Would they ever have movie nights or game nights together? I would love to see these guys play Monopoly or smth like that lol
Tumblr media
Game night! I think monopoly would be banned because Arthur would keep hogging the bank and getting the others to pay way too high mortgages, but considering there’s four of them, Bridge might be a gang favourite. They can play together and talk shop (horrifying medical practices). Poker seems like something Fenninger would be too good at, and Lorentz would be losing way too many bets.

Maybe a silly question, but do you have any specific headcanons for how the medical malpractice gang are related or came to know eachother?
Not a silly question at all! And sorry I only just now got to answering you!
I've toyed with different headcanons with these four idiots. One of my favourites is that they're related but they have no idea that they are. To me that's the funniest one! As to how they met...
Gogol and Fenninger definitely met in Paris. Fenninger trying to run whatever criminal enterprise he has on his mind together with his accomplices/cronies/friends/lovers and Gogol, because, well, he lives there. I imagine they came across each other in a café and first pointedly ignored each other until doctor Wong or Prince Saliano loudly started commenting on their appearances and how they look like each other.
Arthur and Herman definitely met each other in the good ol' US of A, with Herman and Jonathan on the run and ending up in that podunk village run by Arthur. Hell, they might even be staying over at Nathaniel's old inn with Nathaniel trying to recruit the two for one of his experiments, Jonathan plotting to kill the old professor, Herman trying to stop Jonathan, and Arthur barging in with a 'what's all this, then?' Also I imagine Jonathan trying many attempts on Arthur's life simply because he's a sheriff. Also Arthur is completely clueless to Jonathan's criminal status.
Fenninger met Herman in Heisenberg, Germany because they went to the same medical school and Fenninger dropped out to live a life of crime, and because I think that would be funny. I just like the idea of Fenninger being sent there as a young lad by his rich parents to make something of himself (and because he refused to join the military like any good Viennese of higher standing should) and meeting Herman as a nervous student doing his goddamn best to make it through.
As to how they all met the others? Fenninger and his gang are on the run after the whole Kay Kyser incident and decide to lay low in the countryside, coincidentally where Arthur and Nathaniel live. There they come across Jonathan and Herman who recognises Fenninger as that cool rich kid who was always copying his answers in class. And Gogol...? He was at a conference in New York when his taxi got hijacked by this gang of idiots (Herman, Jonathan, Fenninger, Saliano, Mainwaring) on the run and gets recognised by Fenninger!
By that point I simply imagine them just constantly bumping into each other in the most unlikely places and in the end just resigning themselves that they are somehow cursed by fate to constantly see each other and making the best of it.

Peter Lorre character related questions I think about a lot
•Did Herman let Elaine go on purpose when Jonathan made him take her to the cellar?
I've always wondered since not only does Herman seem so hesitant to harm her, but neither of them seem like there was much of a struggle between them while they were in the basement. Plus, with Elaine not escaping till after Mortimer and the aunts showed up, it's possible Einstein heard their voices upstairs and saw it as an excuse to let Elaine go without Jonathan being able to just throw her back in
•Was Hans Beckert telling the truth about not being able to control his urge to kill and feeling disgusted with himself for his crimes?
Perhaps it takes away some of the films complexity, but I'm partial to the idea that Beckert isn't as haunted by his actions as he claims to be. I feel like the only negative emotion about his crimes Beckert displays before he's caught is a fear of getting caught and every step he takes in finding a victim seems intentional and done in a sound state of mind. Not to mention, as others have pointed out, the letter he sends the police and infamous mirror scene make it seem like he enjoys his reputation as a killer
•Was Roderick remorseful for murdering the pawn broker?
I wanna say yes because he's one of Petes few leading man characters and there are enough moronic critics from around the time who vastly overestimated how much of a villainous character Rod was just because he was played by Peter Lorre and killed someone. But if I'm being honest, I don't feel he was all that guilty, at least not after the night of the murder. Again he seems more frightened of being caught than guilty to me. But on the other hand he's obviously shown to be sensitive and compassionate in general in the film so perhaps its just unrealistic to assume he wouldn't feel at least some guilt for taken a life? I really go back and fourth on this one
•What is Professor Fenningers real name?
I've guessed Moritz Veidt in the past
•What is Mr Munseys first name?
I've heard 'Henry' here and there as a potential first name for Prentiss, but I don't believe I've ever heard one for Munsey. I personally like Rudolph Munsey. 'Rudy' to those he's close with
•Is Cairos hair naturally curly?
I prefer to assume it is, but it works either way for me if you have an interesting enough HC about why he chooses to curl his hair
•Who is the Emily, that Dr Lorentz mentions a few times?
I feel like I heard someone suggest that she's Arthurs sister once, but I prefer to imagine she's Arthurs maid or housekeeper. Specifically a very underpaid, world-weary, unlucky, chainsmoking one who hates her job and Arthur and Arthurs cat(who hates her back and goes out of her way to make Emily's job harder) and Arthurs crazy boyfriend and the bickering straight couple that lives in Arthurs crazy boyfriends attic and her life
Well that'll do for now. Feel free to add more questions or throw your two cents in about any of these. Or don't. You're your own person with your own agency. I assume

What if the medical malpractice gang would be a commune? How would their rooms look like?
A commune? Like this?
Tumblr media
In all honesty, I really only see Lorentz and Billings as being the kind to live in a rural commune, Gogol and Fenninger seem way too much like city slickers to even entertain living together!
But supposing they did, then Lorentz and Billing would definitely go for, what I as a European think is a traditional American style - we're talking painted wood, nice, sober, wooden furniture with little decoration, maybe a few lace doilies here and there, cut glass mirrors and fine little crystal glasses and pitchers to drink some good gin. Karl Fenninger is a modern (1940s) man. We're talking steel tube chairs, art deco is out, new objectivity is in. Industrial sobriety, glass tables, primary colours. He'd have a state of the art player and he'd be very distressed if anyone touched his vinyl collection. Modern art. Not that sell-out called Picasso. But definitely a Man Ray artwork. Or a statuette by Giacommetti. ‘You wouldn’t know him. Very promising young artist.’ A 1940s hipster, if you will. Herman and Jonathan would be a bit of a mix. They'd both be rather kitschy, but Herman in a German way, and Jonathan in an English way. Jonathan: porcelain dogs, lace doilies, perhaps even a little chandelier from the ceiling. Herman: porcelain plates and ballerina figurines, silver pitchers. Their room would be a nightmare to Fenninger, filled with bric-a-brac and souvenirs from all the places they committed crimes in. Also none of their furniture would be new - literally stuff salvaged off the street and from the dump, worn out. And then we have Gogol… Gogol… well, I mean the guy's practically a goth. A small organ in the room, a distressing amount of potted plants, most of which are exotic carnivorous ones, a love for dark wooden furniture with twisted legs (walnut). He'd be driving Jonathan crazy with his music. Oh yes, and not to forget the extensive poetry collection, as well as the 'exotic engravings' (victorian porn)

If the medical malpractice gang were cats what breeds would they be?
Tumblr media
I can’t help myself, I can only see dr Gogol as a naked cat
Tumblr media
Dr Lorentz is a tuxedo cat purely on the basis of how he dresses himself, and for some reason I can’t stop seeing Nathaniel as an orange cat
Tumblr media
Jonathan as a deeply protective scrawny tabby, Einstein as an adopted black smudge kitten
Tumblr media
I can’t help it, all I can see Fenninger as is a silver marten rabbit. It's black, it’s elegant, it looks like a photo negative, voted most likely mammal to smoke with a cigarette holder 10/10

I don't know if you're interested in animation memes, but have you heard of the sad cat dance meme on YouTube? It's only gotten popular recently and I thinks it's really cute~
That said, I'm not asking if you're interested in making it, but do you think anyone in the medical malpractice gang would be willing to do this dance if asked nicely??
I think seeing any of them in cat ears while dancing this way would be adorable ✨
