"Morningside Park, a beloved neighborhood park in Miami with sweeping views of Biscayne Bay, will soon pilot an innovative approach to coastal resilience.

BIOCAP tiles, a 3D-printed modular system designed to support marine life and reduce wave impact along urban seawalls, will be installed on the existing seawall there in spring 2025. BIOCAP stands for Biodiversity Improvement by Optimizing Coastal Adaptation and Performance.

Developed by our team of architects and marine biologists at Florida International University, the uniquely textured prototype tiles are designed to test a new approach for helping cities such as Miami adapt to rising sea levels while simultaneously restoring ecological balance along their shorelines...

Ecological costs of traditional seawalls

Seawalls have long served as a primary defense against coastal erosion and storm surges. Typically constructed of concrete and ranging from 6 to 10 feet in height, they are built along shorelines to block waves from eroding the land and flooding nearby urban areas.

However, they often come at an ecological cost. Seawalls disrupt natural shoreline dynamics and can wipe out the complex habitat zones that marine life relies on.

Marine organisms are crucial in maintaining coastal water quality by filtering excess nutrients, pollutants and suspended particles. A single adult oyster can filter 20-50 gallons of water daily, removing nitrogen, phosphorus and solids that would otherwise fuel harmful algal blooms. These blooms deplete oxygen levels and damage marine ecosystems.

Filter-feeding organisms also reduce turbidity, which is the cloudiness of water caused by suspended sediment and particles. Less water turbidity means more light can penetrate, which benefits seagrasses that require sunlight for photosynthesis. These seagrasses convert carbon dioxide into oxygen and energy-rich sugars while providing essential food and habitat for diverse marine species.

Swirling shapes, shaded grooves

Unlike the flat, lifeless surfaces of typical concrete seawalls, each BIOCAP tile is designed with shaded grooves, crevices and small, water-holding pockets. These textured features mimic natural shoreline conditions and create tiny homes for barnacles, oysters, sponges and other marine organisms that filter and improve water quality.

The tile’s swirling surface patterns increase the overall surface area, offering more space for colonization. The shaded recesses are intended to help regulate temperature by providing cooler, more stable microenvironments. This thermal buffering can support marine life in the face of rising water temperatures and more frequent heat events driven by climate change.

Another potential benefit of the tiles is reducing the impact of waves.

When waves hit a natural shoreline, their energy is gradually absorbed by irregular surfaces, tide pools and vegetation. In contrast, when waves strike vertical concrete seawalls, the energy is reflected back into the water rather than absorbed. This wave reflection – the bouncing back of wave energy – can amplify wave action, increase erosion at the base of the wall and create more hazardous conditions during storms.

The textured surfaces of the BIOCAP tiles are designed to help diffuse wave energy by mimicking the natural dissipation found on undisturbed shorelines.

The design of BIOCAP takes cues from nature. The tile shapes are based on how water interacts with different surfaces at high tide and low tide. Concave tiles, which curve inward, and convex tiles, which curve outward, are installed at different levels along the seawall. The goal is to deflect waves away from the seawall, reduce direct impact and help minimize erosion and turbulence around the wall’s foundation.A

How we will measure success

After the BIOCAP tiles are installed, we plan to assess how the seawall redesign enhances biodiversity, improves water quality and reduces wave energy. This two-year pilot phase will help assess the long-term value of ecologically designed infrastructure.

To evaluate biodiversity, we will use underwater cameras to capture time-lapse imagery of the marine life that colonizes the tile surfaces. These observations will aid in documenting species diversity and habitat use over time...

In the coming year, we’ll be watching with hope as the new BIOCAP tiles begin to welcome marine life, offering a glimpse into how nature might reclaim and thrive along our urban shorelines.

I have ascended to the level of nerdy knits where you spend a solid year modifying patterns, knitting prototypes, and learning to design cable knit patterns in order to make wrist warmers with the Doors of Durin design from The Lord of the Rings: A Musical Tale on them 😂 No regrets.

As a huge Gimli fangirl, I'm very excited that I finally succeeded in replicating this design, which is featured both on the doors and on Gimli's coat in the show! Kudos for the original design to the incredible Simon Kenny! 🙏

I saw people draw stars on this cloth and at first I thought it was a headcanon or sth, but NO, there is actually some sort of stars and moon pattern on it!

- the bow she's wearing as a bracelet is actually Huggy's. Kissy lost hers in the fight with the Prototype, so Huggy gave his to her

- Kissy didn't lose her arm because the plan to blow everything up wasn't set in motion

- however her right eye was so badly injured that it went blind. Kissy now wears an eye patch and she doesn't like it when someone draws attention to her scars

- oh and i draw tails on them optionally. Idk they're just funny monkey creatures to me

Also I've found out today that Kissy canonically has a soft spot for drawing and writing, and my heart melted

Actually I may or may not have told about my project so Imma tell again!

So for those who dont know, Im studing becoming a cobbler! So I make and maybe repair shoes and other kind of leather products too (havent really decides that)

SO. Im currently on a pattern making course, which has been quite tedious and tiring work, cause gotta make sure verything is exactly and not off by mesurements (just eikä melkein in finnish xD)

Since I started my school and also Im a submas fan, what a better way to merge my interests and make their shoes! The original, butlermas and sygna suit ones!

Not gonna lie... they have been causing me quite the headache in terms of how to turn them real workable shoes but still having the submas vibe. I started from the "easiest" aka butlermas shoes... by easiest I mean that i dont have to think about boot mesurements which is an another can of worm...

anyway, in a way I can comfortably that submas shoes as is are ass. Like they do not work as shoes. Which is causing me pain because on top of thinking about mesurements and stuff, I still have to design them to be workable. For drawing purposes I they are fine but wearable... nah.

Like, the og ones are missing a piece of a sole? Butler and sygna ones are better, cause they have that curve like normal ones. No visible seams? ...ok I let that bit slide cause when drawing shoes, you dont really think about them being wearable. Just that they look cool and all.

BUT. Luckily I have found something for the buttler shoes which look EXACTLY how they would be, if they'd be wearable! Which is def helping me. But behold!

These are exactly how I'd imagine the shoes to be, and my teacher also agrees this design being good for the shoes! Of course, the image ones will look diffirent from my pattern and prototype but the pretty spot on right?

Here is the quick comparison. Red line is the og, while blue is the "realistic" one. Quite the diffirence, right?

So far havent done much, but so far it looks nice! First Imma just do general patterns and see do I need changes, but when the time comes, I will make them for my legs spesificly! ...and maybe someday for others but we'll see.

Even if Ingo and emmet has the same shoes, I'll be making Ingo's cause white is not really the nicest color to work with. Plus I prefer them being darker color to soo xD

Making a big Typhlosion plush

Shamelessly copying my story posts from instagram as I thought it’d be fun to document the making of my big Typhlosion plush on here, too!

Like with all plush whose patterns I make from scratch (and even those for which I already have a pattern) I start with sketches and some simple design notes. I initially wanted to make the Hisuian version, but since it has some tricky markings and I like both versions very much, I started off with the original Johto version. (in retrospect a very good decision because the way I had the markings for Hisuian plotted out wasn’t good at all lol)

The paper models are very rudimentary but they do give me a feeling for the shapes and if pieces I designed actually line up the way I want them too. I don’t have any 3D programs so I do it all with models like this and then on to fabric prototype(s).

okay walk with me here but since carmen drew pants designs just think about him and his girl talkin' about fashion design. even looking through magazines and such and being "critics" of the clothes and how the models are styled.

and telling him that she makes her own clothes??? he'd die. like actually probably burst at the seams (no pun intended) if his girl told him that. and then he begs her to show him her prototypes and patterns for her clothes and he's listening so intently to her words and what she is saying -- because he's so in love because of her. everything she does makes him crazy, but this makes him insane, more insane than he normally is.

he just cant process how someone can be so perfect and be so much like him - to an extent of course - but he loves that his girl loves fashion as much (or more than) he does.

i can and probably will elaborate this if u yell at me because this has been on my mind for ages.

patterns used was by monpatterns (on insta and they have their own site too. got mine on Etsy tho) for the base of these but faces are designed by me and painted with fabric paint. I do seal the paint by ironing it.

making another pair of these but gonna attempt to use the machine bc I'm more confident in my ability of sewing with it... so I will have a pair for myself besides the prototypes. but I'm also making Dr McCoy.

anyways, if anyone else is interested in these I might make a listing for them on Etsy as a made to order item in the future! depends how quickly I can get them made with the machine and how nice they will come out that way. we shall see.

What’s your favorite thing about Rung?

Either design wise or character wise.

I think he’s delightful and very interesting and you are who got me into the character

Oh I need to slowly get back in shape, using Rung as a slow door lever ahah There are several types of characters that I like and Rung's type holds a special soft place in my heart, took some time for him to beat his way through to there Design-wise I actually prefer many other characters, Rung is very pleasant to draw but something in his design still seems strange and off to me, but orange color in him is what I would never change I am yapping under the cut, which I do very rarely and almost always I read characters wrong, so don't look at me and don't bite me XDD

Character wise ~ I have a clear pattern of choosing my one favourite character who gives me a peace of mind: "loser" who gets beaten up by life but they still love their life and little things in it and keep pushing for us to find out how many traumatic layers under their smile is. They act passive in this life and try to not get in problems but problems find them and they have to finally act to deal with it because it is on the way of their calm life or events go against their world view. (Counts on fingers favs: Rosemaine from Ascendance of a Bookworm, Xie Lian from Heaven's official blessing, Shen Qingqiu from the SVSSS, Charlie from comic "Humor me", Kim Dokja from Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint, Prince Myshkin from "The Idiot" by F.M. Dostoevsky, now Rung got added which I didn't expect XDD)

I've been scrolling some plots that are made with Rung, usually they orient around Rung's depression episode because he kept too much in himself, angst rotated around him getting forgotten which is very much yes. But he canonicaly is scared non the less and even more to forget someone. This is the most scariest thing for him - to forget someone like people always forget you. He never changed his look while others kept adding new kibbles and so on because he is fascinated by the nature of their creation. He can't appreciate enough how they were born with iridescent metal and moving gears that made them alive, with the spark beating where their heart is. I honestly can imagine him as a highly altruistic person once he went online who likes to create memorable things that he personally encountered with his hands. Not shutting up about that particular piece of the pillar and what a gorgeous angle it has, telling compliments every random transformer passing him by. He might have been a handicraft master before he got interested in psychiatry to make sense of himself. He had a patient he was very close with but he died and he kept the negligence a secret because otherwise he couldn't be a psychiatrist anymore. He loves people, he loves to help them, he grew up through many events we never saw for him to be able to forgive anything. Transformers are highly social beings and being left alone is almost identical to being dead. Rung is still alive because he found a place where he won't be left alone for plenty of time, just like Swerve dealt with his problem but Rung has a stronger character when it comes to this. *sigh* Rung has so many things in him that could be rotated more interestingly outside "forgotten" angst. He likes to pretend that he is a good character reader, beside the fact that he is a psychiatrist he could be tangled in some manipulation machinations. He could be a mysterious undercover revolutionary in the Functionists Universe if he wasn't trapped that time. He knows 70-80% of the Cybertronians and they don't even know he exists, most of them were his patients, imagine if he wasn't a good character, something happened, well congrats he can get half of the Cybertron into a trauma shutdown with his data, and he would have enough tools, he was making controlled flying prototypes of arcs, he clearly could do more advanced accurate little things. I don't even talk about his "advanced quirks" like immortality. If he could control it even if he is clumsy and losing a limb damn much hurts, he could get out of so many situations. Imagine escaping out of somewhere by relocating your body parts, or only the head to get out.

I dearly love him as a sweet and calm character, I need such characters more in my life when I need to calm down, at the same time I love when such characters do something that can lead to their death out of stupid (but important for them) purposes XDD

QUANT BLITZ PLUSHIE COMPLETE!!!!

I am so happy with him! The base pattern I used is by the wonderful @dollphinwing but I designed the hair entirely by myself!!! It took several prototypes but I am so happy with how he came out!!!

The embroidery was done by hand, and for the first time for this type of plushie I used the sewing machine for most of it! YAY!

Next up are his pajamas - these are temp ones ("hospital gown" for new plushies 😉).

It all started with....

Julie coming up with a new game, but this time, she was certain that it'll be the greatest of all of her games. She asked Wally to design a sports uniform without explaining anything other than wanting the same design from one of Mia's storybooks she had been reading once in a sleepover...

...Wally didn't argue, and neither did Mia. She helped Wally out with the design, painting, and sewing a blank white shirt to look exactly like the picture in that storybook.

After finishing the prototype, they showed up again to Julie to see if they managed to make the design she asked for. Luckily, Frank was near, standing next to Julie... as he exclaimed:

"This is a Baseball uniform!" looking at Julie, puzzled.

Julie, who never asked, looked back at him, all excited and bouncy, listened to Frank's explanation regarding baseball. Once she took it all in, her excitement for her new big game became overwhelming.

The lair was quiet, save for the soft hum of Donnie’s lab equipment. Earlier, it had been alive with energy, laughter bouncing off the walls as you, April, Casey, and the turtles played games and ate way too much pizza. But now, everyone had retreated to their respective corners to sleep.

Everyone except you.

The fire was everywhere, roaring and relentless. You could feel its heat, hear its crackle as it devoured everything in its path. The smoke burned your lungs, making it impossible to breathe. Voices screamed your name, but you couldn’t reach them—couldn’t save them.

You woke up with a sharp gasp, sitting bolt upright. The air in the lair was cool, but it felt suffocating against the sheen of sweat on your skin. Your heart raced, pounding so loudly in your ears you barely noticed the tears streaming down your face.

You rubbed your hands over your face, fingers brushing against the scars that marked your skin. The burns—visible reminders of a night you could never forget. A night that had taken everything from you.

You didn’t notice the soft footsteps approaching until a voice, gentle and laced with concern, broke through the silence.

“Y/N?”

You turned to see Donnie standing in the doorway, his bo staff in one hand and a frown creasing his brow.

“I heard you,” he said, stepping closer. “Are you… alright?”

“I’m fine,” you said quickly, your voice shaky and unconvincing. “Just a bad dream. Go back to bed, Donnie.”

But he didn’t move. Instead, he set his bo staff aside and crouched down next to your bed. “That didn’t sound like just a bad dream,” he said, his voice quieter now. “Do you… want to talk about it?”

You hesitated, your hands clenching the blanket tightly. You’d never told him the full story. You’d never told anyone, really. The scars on your body were explanation enough for most people. But Donnie wasn’t most people. Or turtle...

“It’s just… memories,” you finally admitted. “Of the fire.”

His eyes flickered to your scars for just a moment before meeting yours again. “The fire that…?”

You nodded. “That took my family. I couldn’t save them.”

Donnie’s gaze softened further, and he sat down beside you. “Y/N, it wasn’t your fault.”

“I know,” you said quickly, though the words felt hollow. “It’s just… it always feels so real. Like I’m back there again.”

He was quiet for a moment, and then, without a word, he reached out and placed a hand on your shoulder. The gesture was small, but it grounded you.

“I can’t pretend to understand what you went through,” Donnie said, his voice steady. “But I can promise you this: you’re not alone now. If you ever feel like the memories are too much, I’m here. You're my boyfriend, and I don't want to see you suffering because of this, thinking you can't tell me anything. I'm here for you.”

You looked at him, the glow from his lab casting soft purple light across his face. “Thanks, babe.”

A small smile tugged at the corners of his lips. “It’s what I do. Emotional support genius, at your service.”

Despite everything, you chuckled. “Is that an official title?”

“It is now,” he said, standing up. “Come on. Let’s go to the lab. I have some projects I could use your input on. Distractions are an underrated coping mechanism, you know.”

You followed him, grateful for the excuse to leave your nightmare behind.

You followed him to his workstation, where he rummaged through a drawer before pulling out a sleek, circular device. “This,” he began, holding it up, “is a prototype I’ve been working on. It’s designed to help regulate stress responses.”

“How does it work?” you asked, curiosity momentarily overriding your anxiety.

He smiled faintly, the excitement of explaining his invention clear in his tone. “It uses biometric feedback to monitor your heart rate and breathing patterns. When it detects elevated levels of stress, it emits a calming frequency.”

You raised an eyebrow. “So, it’s a stress-busting gadget?”

“Essentially,” he said, handing it to you. “I haven’t tested it much yet, but… I thought it might help you. Especially on nights like this.”

Your chest tightened, but this time, it wasn’t from panic. “You made this for me?”

“Well, I made it for anyone who might need it,” he said, his voice dropping into his usual awkward ramble. “But yes, I had you in mind specifically. Your well-being is—uh—important to me. Very important.”

The corners of your mouth lifted into a small smile after kissing his cheek “Thank you, Donnie. Really.”

He cleared his throat, clearly flustered. “It’s what I do. Genius inventor and, apparently, boyfriend extraordinaire.”

You chuckled softly, reaching out to take his hand. “You’re definitely both.”

Donnie squeezed your hand gently, his thumb brushing over your scarred skin without hesitation. “Y/N, I can’t erase what happened, but I’ll do whatever I can to make things easier for you.”

“I know,” you said, the weight on your chest lifting just a little. “And i love you for that.”

The two of you stayed like that for a while, the steady hum of the lab filling the silence.

More Gundam Indra and N°3/Marleen. I drew over parts of both Zowort and Pharact to settle on a design that gives that "inebtween" prototype feel - using technology the company had already developed but adding something new on top that's not quite finalized yet. Unwell ramblings below, as usual.

FP/A-67 Indra was developed as a test prototype for the GUND format, including the Corax system - the MS comes with 6 stun beam GUND bits, which were later implemented into FP/A-77 Pharact. 12 more bits were added to the latter MS to achieve denser attack patterns in effort to make it a combat-ready MS.

Due to the increased number of GUND bits to control, higher output armaments and the permet link not being optimized for her brain implants as it was in Indra, N°3's seizures returned 8 times out of 10 upon reaching permet score 4 in Pharact and eventually outside the MS as well. Because of the toll the data storm was already taking on her body and not being able to pilot the Pharact reliably, she was "discontinued" and sent back to Peil's research facility. The position of the company's main test pilot was passed down to N°4.

Festival of Lights�� A 'USB Stick' Sparkle Motion WLED driver ✨💡🔌🌟

To wrap up this year, we're doing 8 days (maybe!) of light-filled designs. We started with the Sparkle Motion Mini

which can drive thousands of shimmering RGB LEDs. Next, we were going through some of our NeoPixel samples today and found some "LED Christmas light kit" with star LEDs, its basically these stars

with a little USB plug that has IR, a crummy mic, a tactile switch to cycle modes manually, and a tiny microcontroller that turns the LED selections to different patterns - kinda like this:

The idea is cute - but the implementation could be improved with a lil sparkle motion

! we made a PCB that would fit into the same plastic enclosure but with an ESP32 instead. it's got an IR receiver, ICS-43434 I2S digital microphone

gpio 0 button in the 'right' place, 5V 2A fuse, USB-serial converter for uploading/debugging, and two level-shifted outputs. We can probably get the case in quantity or have this be a 'DIY replacement' that folks can use to make their existing setups WLED/xLights friendly.

As we draw near our first year of starting the shop, I look back and can't help but be amazed by the quality improvement. Art changes with time, repetition, and practice. Never be discouraged! Every art piece is an adventure!

Very first Monkie Plush prototypes.

This was before I had invested in an embroidery machine. Mouths were hand stitched before I knew how to properly do so, and the eyes were iron on t-shirt transfers that were hand painted. However the material would crackle or flake off when bent.

When I invested in the embroidery machine, I took the painted designs and uploaded them to simplify into embroidery patterns.

The overall shape of their snouts, etc is wonky as I was still learning how to fit the pattern together. (Thats not the camera angle, they are genuinely lopsided). Such is the nature of early prototypes.

My latest plushies that shipped out earlier this week. Featuring the embroidered eyes based on the original painted designs. Mouths are now uniform in shape too, I still hand embroider the midline (some plush designs don't have it, so I kept it out.)

I also managed to find a shorter faux fur for the heads, reducing the chance for awkward shave marks. Though I still have to hand shave the bodies. Otherwise they'd be looking like colorful Wookies.

my ranking of the seven deadly sins' designs in terms of personal preference. WARNING: I am not nice to Asmodeus or Beelzebub. All simps and stans have been warned. 👇

1. Leviathan (Envy)

Rating: 8/10

I feel like the hate for her is kind of unfair, considering she's the first character we've gotten (or at least the first I've seen) that has two heads and despite being a conjoined demon she's quite cohesive while outlining the differences between her halves. I understand finding her design underwhelming, but before her there was Lucifer (who has the most basic design of them all) and then Beelzebub (whose only interesting feature are her lava bits) so I'm not sure why people are harsh on her like she's the first underwhelming one.

Anyway, I gave Levi an 8/10 because for the sins I don't typically like to fully judge until their demonic form is shown as well. I also feel like it would have been nice to see her be a bit bigger in her base form- not to the extent of Satan's size, but maybe a bit larger than Asmodeus or Mammon.

2. Satan (Wrath)

Rating: 10/10

Dare I say, this portrayal of Satan is kind of iconic. You can see the similarities between him and imp-kind, but he's not designed to just look like a giant imp (which is what most media does if it's not making him a sexy red human with horns). His size is what I'd expect it to be- really, it's nice to see a Sin that actually cares to stand out from its denizens in some way. Him basically being a giant dragon was a good choice.

Despite his rating being higher than Leviathan's, I didn't list him as first because I like looking at Leviathan more.

3. Belphegor (Sloth)

Rating: 4/10

I didn't really pay much attention to her when she was on screen, but her little details stood out to me. She only gets four points though, because not only was I unable to get a look at her full design but what I gauged from her outfit wasn't very impressive. Also, I'm not really that attached to the concept of her character. None of the sins really have roles except to maintain order within their rings I guess, but seemingly all Belphegor does is sleep.

Still, her unique details and coloring does count for something.

4. Mammon (Greed)

Rating: "eh."

Mammon goes right in the middle because I feel completely neutral on him. I know what the general consensus on his design is- too green, too patterned. But I personally can't really think of anything I'd change about him. Even knowing what a letdown his demon form is, it doesn't really impact me– I guess because by the time we got to his demon form being revealed, I was already desensitized.

5. Asmodeus (Lust)

Rating: 2/10

Definitely one of the most annoying designs in the show. I started skipping most of his scenes in S2 because I hate looking at him and his ugly-ass suits that do absolutely nothing for his figure. And as for the matter of his figure, he's just a big, disproportionately buff guy who was given the prototype design for Stolas' head. If Asmodeus wasn't built like a bird on steroids I'd probably like him better.

6. Beelzebub (Gluttony)

Rating: 3/10

Her design has some things I like– namely her ears and the lava hair (when it's under the lighting depicted). The problem is, it just doesn't give 'sin'. She fits in with her subjects too much (and no, I don't think that applies to Leviathan on the same scale).

Her outfits are really bad too. I mean, I get her basic outfit- she's a party girl- but it's basically Loona's regular outfit. She couldn't have had something a little more glam-rave? And the outfit she wore in 'Mastermind' is so random- it feels like she brought it at the last minute from a costume store, not like it's something she'd keep in her wardrobe.

The other issues with Beelzebub, from her not really embodying her sin (her and Mammon should have swapped) to her whole design feeling like another way to snub fat people out of the Vivzieverse (yes I know not all fat people are gluttonous and that gluttony doesn't just refer to food, but it's just so convenient that the embodiment of gluttony- whose whole thing is food- has a lava stomach and can't gain weight) make it really hard to like her overall.

7. Lucifer (Pride)

Rating: 1/10

He's just a disappointment. His outfit fits the circus theme Vivienne was going for, but it's negated by literally no one else in the show following that theme except Beelzebub and her crappy court costume. And personally? I would have made him look a little less angelic considering his current status, but I don't know enough about fallen angel lore (both irl and in the show) to debate if him looking so non-demonic makes sense or not.

The only reason he gets a single point is because he's still better than the absolute worst design in the show, which to me is Loona's demon form. Whoever cleared that needs to be banned from making executive decisions in this show.
