The use of low sub-perceptual doses of psychedelics ("microdosing") has gained popularity in recent years. Although anecdotal reports claim multiple benefits associated with this practice, the lack of placebo-controlled studies severely limits our knowledge of microdosing and its effects. Moreover, research conducted in standard laboratory settings could fail to capture the motivation of individuals engaged or planning to engage in microdosing protocols, thus underestimating the likelihood of positive effects on creativity and cognitive function, We recruited 34 individuals starting to microdose with psilocybin mushrooms (Psilocybe cubensis), one of the materials most frequently used for this purpose.

Once maligned for their psychedelic properties, magic mushrooms are increasingly attracting attention for their same mind-altering potential as a therapy for a wide variety of mental health issues. Yet surprisingly little is known about the diverse neurological effects of the fungus's psychoactive compound, psilocybin, making it difficult to predict how the drug might ultimately benefit the community as a medicine. A study led by Washington University School of Medicine psychiatrist Joshua Siegel tracked brain changes in seven healthy adults before, during, and after taking a high dose of psilocybin, identifying disruptions in connectivity that persisted for weeks in some areas of the brain.

A visual scale of what 1g mushrooms might look like. Spoiler Alert: use a scale always. Potency can vary even between 1g of the same variety, or between 1g dosages of different varieties. This is why I recommend folks to grind up their mushrooms and take in a capsule, tea, or edible form. This will help make dosing more accurate. Trying a new variety? Start lower. Mush love, Be Safe At The Parties!

Funguary Feb 29 - Cryptic Magic Mushroom - Psilocybin
I finished! And I actually managed to do a mushroom per day. This one was for some reason the absolute hardest, and I'm not happy with how it turned out, but there you go. Sometimes the muse just doesn't want to provide you with anything at all.
I interpret the magic mushrooms as being related to fairy gates. So here's a satyr arriving, ready to...do perfectly innocent things. As satyrs do, of course. I gave him a softer dadbod because honestly, same.
It's been a long time since I've done art in a disciplined way, trying to do some every day. I've got a lot going on - a job, a kid, a chronic spinal disability, a mini farm, major depression and anxiety, animals to care for, all the rest. So getting here at all was a miracle. And I recorded how I did it, I might post it later.
Thankyou to @feefal for setting this up.

MONUMENTALITY,
“the mentality, to be monumental”.
Without question one of al.divino’s most experimental bodies of work to date, Monumentality stands to be an embodiment of innovation. Released April 2018, this project was wrote, recorded +self produced by Divino at the mini mansion under the influence of magic mushrooms. (a dosage of 3.5/4g per night two nights in a row to be exact) Divino had developed a playlist of 1930-80s archival film footage of various ancient architectural landmarks specifically intended for this test of creative endurance. On mute, the almost omniscient visuals played in the background while obscure jazz was manipulated by a 404. At merely a glimpse into this abstract almost shamanic like process, we start to understand the ripple effect that this project would have later on in the current world of renaissance-esque high potency hip hop. At the time the climate was forward thinking yet maintaining a clear cut ode to traditional form, MONUMENTALITY provided a much more distain for form from his peers and predecessor’s. The form was no form. The musical parallel of the defocalization found from ancient hallucinogenics such as psilocybin. Accompanied by his ace @esteenack, they would push boundaries and reveal pockets previously unexplored. Divino would try something new he had never thought of prior to this experiment, writing to the next beat while Nack mixed the current song. A new free form style was incepted, a direct descendant of jazz, “the SPLASH”. Their flows were no longer barred under the false imprisonment of normalized quantization, taking their approach off the grind so to speak. No longer required to record a verse the same way twice, these formless amalgamations of previously mastered techniques would then morph into more styles later on in their catalogues and become quintessential aspects of their shared trademark originality. Inspiring others outside of Massachusetts to unlearn previously established habits of flow to evoke new deliveries although chaotic at times to untrained ears these rhythms would be a breath of fresh of air and highly revered by respected contributors to culture, critics and listeners alike.

Funguary week 4 and last! hosted by @feefal.
In the end I chose an unspecified "magic" mushroom, I used the photo at the bottom of the picture as inspiration.
Even now, I was inspired by the Czech language, a little. In Czech, we call these mushrooms Lysohlávky, which can be loosely translated into English as bald heads.
That's why the figure has a scarf on his head. Since it is "dark" color, it can be assumed that it is an older specimen, but other parts of its body do not indicate this.
The character smokes, releasing a specific smell into his surroundings, which makes these mushrooms "famous". They are easy to recognize by their smell, other mushrooms do not smell like that.
The inscription on her dress/t-shirt can be popularly translated into Czech as smaženice, from which the word smažka can be easily derived, which is sometimes loosely used as a slang term for drug addicts. - Yes, I get it, I'm building a  bridge of asses, but I thought it was funny…
You can also see some blue bruises on her body. Except for a few species, these mushrooms turn blue when injured.
Last but not least, these mushrooms are known primarily for the hallucinogenic effects of most of their species. Hence the drug allusions and the creepy eyes appearing out of nowhere.
See Gif below text. The quality is terrible, I found that tumblr doesn't give much better quality…
Thanks for the nice challenge!

PS: Only after processing did I realize that it would be best if the smoke moved as well, but I can't do that anymore. Maybe I'll redo it again sometime. My first if about animation in procreate. Yeah!

To me it begins and ends with these psychedelic substances. The synergy of the psilocybin in the hominid diet brought us out of the animal mind and into the world of articulated speech and imagination.

Today is a dosing day. I am mixing Golden Teacher and Z strain together as that’s what I had left over after making my crush some chocolates. Intended dose is 350mg soaked in lemon juice then strained in a cheese cloth into lemon ginger tea.
Mush love and be safe at the parties!

how is psilocybin metabolized?
To metabolize is to breakdown a chemical to its simpler component forms for cells to use. Psilocybin is a psychedelic compound found in fungi of several genera including Psilocybe, Panaeolus, and Copelandia. Inside the body, it influences the functional molecular mechanisms of several organs, mainly the brain, kidneys, and liver. On its own psilocybin is not as effective. To produce its infamous hallucinogenic effect in the brain, it must be converted to psilocin. Psilocin is the main active molecule, which is derived from the prodrug psilocybin.
There are two ways of getting these metabolites inside the body: oral ingestion (for example, eating the "magic mushrooms") and intravenous injection. When orally ingested, the mushrooms are digested in the usual way. Eventually, the psilocybin in the mushrooms reaches the liver where it is converted to psilocin. An enzyme, alkaline phosphatase, acts on psilocybin such that its phosphate group (PO₄³⁻) is replaced with a hydroxyl group (−OH). Psilocin is further acted upon by diverse enzymes to obtain products which are either excreted through urine or contribute to other functions in hepatocytes (liver cells) as psilocin metabolites.
There is a format to convert chemical equations to sentences. Nevertheless, I firmly believe that one must have the convenience of remembering their organic chemistry without having a stroke. Behold,
psilocin + monoamine oxidase = 4-hydroxyindole-3-acetaldehyde
psilocin + glucuronosyltransferase = psilocin glucoronide (PCG)
psilocin + aldehyde reductase = 4-hydroxytryptophol
psilocin + aldehyde dehydrogenase = 4-hydroxyindole-3-acetic acid (4HIAA)
The fates of each of these products are an elaborate article on their own, and I will be happy to write them should you be interested. Let me know!
Now, we remember that the primary effects due to which human beings consume psilocybin-containing mushrooms are caused by psilocin in the brain. The exact step-by-step mechanism has not yet been outlined; however, general molecular interactions have been found in studies. This psychoactive compound shows an interesting resemblance to serotonin the neurotransmitter. The psilocin binds to 5-HT2A (a molecule in a cell membrane which responds specifically to serotonin i.e., a serotonin receptor) with high affinity, which is believed to be essential for hallucinogenic effect. It also binds to other receptors with varying affinities, although their significance is yet to be understood.
Psilocybin and its metabolized products are completely removed from the body after 24 hours of consumption. The kidneys take pride in detoxifying circulating blood by creating the waste product urine; psilocin consumed can be detected in blood plasma 6-8 hours after consumption. Majority of the psilocin excreted through urine is in the form of psilocin-O-glucoronide. Psilocybin that remains psilocybin is also excreted through urine by the kidneys.
Introducing psilocybin in the body through veins produces effects of similar intensity as the former method. Whereas it remains as an active compound in the blood for a shorter duration. Turton et. al. conducted an fMRI (functional magnetic resonance imaging) study to compare the subjective experience of intravenous psilocybin injection interestingly explains how their participants’ descriptions of their experiences were influenced by the MRI scanner environment and the 1960s, when psychedelics were first introduced to western culture.
