However, when Claudia declares that she has found a lead singer for the band she plays in with Steve and Pete at the store, Myka Bering's comfortable life is upended, because that declaration is what brings Helena Wells into Myka's life. Suddenly, with Helena around Myka is reliving parts of her life that she would rather forget, and becoming quickly convinced that this woman is going to change everything about her life.

The best AUs, for me, are those in which the characters are still themselves, in a different setting - *informed* by that different setting. Like, they're not just transplanted, but the author took time and care to really dig into "how would this character be if they were *here* instead of there? What changes would that bring, and what would stay the same?" This is one such AU. I don't know how often I've read this; a dozen times? More? It is atmospheric, so well-written, long, completed; one of the masterpieces of this fandom, I daresay.
And also, Myka's endearment for Helena is SWAGGER. Like, endearments are always difficult, but SWAGGER. I will never be over that.

Mistborn Secret History by Brandon Sanderson
Decided to read this while waiting for Mistborn Era 2 Book 2 to be available on Libby. Short Mistborn novella exploring more Kelsier. Honestly changed by opinion of him from completely indifferent to grudgingly fond. Kelsier goes three for three getting to punch people/gods.
The real important part of this book is it’s a MASSIVE Cosmere lore drop. So much new information about shards. Well worth the read when you’re as into the Cosmere as I am now. Also, Hoid shows up.
“Hell, Kelsier thought, cold. God is going insane.”

Note
(Note: I’m writing this in good faith and not trying to come across confrontational)
Have u forgotten u can vote 3rd party? I know there will likely not be enough people voting independant party for a non red or blue president to be elected THIS voting cycle. But. If enough people vote independent maybe america will wake up and realize there are more than 2 shitty options. (It takes time to change, and change for the better)
Look the problem with the blue no matter who mindset is that these people know you are going to vote for them no matter what. Not because you necessarily like them but because at least they aren’t the other guy. Which gives dems absolutely no incentive to not be a piece of shit. Like do you get it? They will be awful and endorse genocides and all other terror because they know you will let them get away with it. Maybe biden isn’t as bad as a republican would have been but he is still pretty fucking bad. Personally, morally, I cannot in any way justify voting for him again.
voting for someone as damage control in an election does not mean you can't heckle the shit out of them once they are in office. You elect the officials you think you and groups you belong to have the better chance of pressuring into better policies, and who will do the least amount of damage in the meantime.
Democrats are relentless towards their elected officials-- at least the ones I know who are actually politically active are. They call, they protest, they campaign. Plus, as you're demonstrating, people on the left do not blindly vote (that's the other guys). It's totally unrealistic to say that elected Democratic officials just think they have an easy ride.
people can and should vote for whoever they want to in local elections, primaries, etc. But in the big one, the president one, the one in the fall, voting third party is like drawing up plans for a nice new extension on a house that is actively being set on fire. Voting for president is damage control. Voting is your hard-fucking-won civil right. Voting in smaller elections can also be damage control; when there is no-one to feel "good" about voting for, you vote for the less-worse one, because maybe that one is more receptive to the idea of climate change being real than the other one, and you can work with that.
Sometimes you get to vote for the option you align with the most. But sometimes voting is about picking the option with the cracks that you can dig your fingers into and pull open. Or at least the one who won't start taking a sledgehammer to civil rights and environmental protections (and, and) with all his buddies while you work to build support behind a candidate you can feel good about voting for in four years.
Biden has shown he can change his policies over time, with pressure. Democrats can be swayed in ways Republicans cannot. One major party can be pushed more left. The other one will drag us into a darkness that I don't even want to think about. The presidency is about so much more than just the individual sitting in the Oval Office.
Voting is strategic. It is strategic. It is not negative moral karma to vote strategically. It is one action amidst all the other actions you can take to fight for the future you want.

Pride (1135 words) by kellsbells / @ifourmindbeso Chapters: 1/1 Fandom: Warehouse 13 Rating: Mature Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings Relationships: Myka Bering/Helena "H. G." Wells Characters: Myka Bering, Helena "H. G." Wells, Claudia Donovan, Steve Jinks Summary: I have thought long and hard before posting this. I wrote it on the day I woke up to hear about the Pulse shootings, and decided not to post it at the time, for various reasons. But when I woke up yesterday, I felt just as hopeless and devastated as I did on the morning after what happened at Pulse. So I thought I would share this with you. Obviously this deals with distressing themes and real-life events, so read with caution. After the shooting at Pulse, Helena thinks about hope.

Arcanum Unbounded: The Cosmere Collection by Brandon Sanderson
This post does not include discussion of Edgedancer or Secret History as I’ve read them previously and did not reread them here.
Arcanum is worth flipping through if you’re Cosmere obsessed. Some of the short stories are more worthwhile than others. There are description blurbs for many of the systems of the Cosmere which are very informative.
Thoughts on them, in no particular order:
Allomancer Jak … was something. In my opinion, the most skippable story in the collection. I’m perfectly happy with AJ only being the occasional broadsheets blurb.
The White Sand snippet was interesting, but I’m not sold on reading a graphic novel. Other than The Sandman, graphic novels aren’t really my thing. My interest is mostly related to larger Cosmere lore introduced in Lost Metal and possibly hinted at in Tress of the Emerald Sea.
Eleventh Metal didn’t really add much to the Mistborn series. It only confirmed suspicions about Ruin’s involvement in everything. Worth reading if you want more Kelsier.
Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell was a great mini stand alone story if you’re into suspense and mild-horror. Got invested early and thought it was a great inclusion. Did not seem to have a lot of lore implications, but does add a bit of context to The Sunlit Man.
Don’t have much to say about The Hope for Elantris. Might make more sense if I’d read Elantris.
The Emperor’s Soul is my second favorite of the collection. Shai was one of the most personally relatable characters in the Cosmere. The story touches on topics of philosophy and theology and just what generally makes a person. Weirdly reminds me a little bit of Cyberpunk 2077, but with magic rather than a tech.
Sixth of the Dusk is by far my favorite story in this collection. Basically set in a Cosmere version of Polynesia/Australia (where all the wild life can and will kill you). One of my favorite environments described in the Cosmere, and one I’d least like to visit in real life. Story was incredibly suspenseful. The writing did so much work in such a short amount of time. Honestly, it’s proof that Sanderson can write a good story in under 100 pages. It’s another example of Sanderson using a dart board with random words to make a magic system. In this case, magic birds. There’s serious hints towards larger Cosmere involvement without giving any concrete answers. Very intriguing.

Paleolithic Media Catalogue
Hello everyone :) Short story first: When I began brainstorming for my prehistoric story, I started wondering what other prehistoric fiction there is out there. I was not familiar with it and have not seen much. That's when I started my grand literature review and began a search for what fiction exist out there. I wanted to know what kinds of stories are being made with this time period. What are the common themes or recurring ideas (I found lots of humans and dinosaurs works. And time travel). Since I've had a growing collection on my computer, I decided I should keep on enlarging it and put it online. It's nowhere near complete. I'll slowly keep accumulating the collection as I find more. I only have fiction books and comics right now. I still need to work on the film section.
You can access the blog here!

As for where I am in my reading, the one's I've finished reading are Earth's Children series (book 1-4. Dropped it afterwards lol. I made a post on with fanart) Dance of the Tiger and it's sequel Singletusk (They were good! I'll upload my review on the blog), and Sisters of the Wolf (It was ok!). I got my hands on The Inheritors and excited to start reading it. I REALLY want to read the Shiva trilogy, but I found no PDF online... and it's out of print :( There is certainly old copies on ebay. And I want to read Chronicles of Ancient Darkness. There seem to be lots of good books out there.

if you’re going to talk about an author on your podcast—ESPECIALLY if you’re going to say really nice things—the literal least you can do is let that person know.
I’m very easy to find online. I have the same username everywhere and I tell people this! But if you’re linking to a fic, just, yknow. Drop a comment.
Please. Please.

I'd also like to emphasize that most of the manga I ever bought were from used bookstores, or purchased when American book chains like Waldenbooks and Borders filed for bankruptcy. The late 2000s was a golden age for being an adolescent manga reader.

Reverberating Consequences by YancyPants
Barry Allen has no clue that his boyfriend, Cisco Ramon, is not in fact a mechanical engineer, but a secret agent. So when he's kidnapped by a group of people out for revenge it's safe to say that Barry's a little out of the loop. His entrance into the loop is turbulent to say the least.
(T, Barry/Cisco, Chose Not to Use Archive Warnings)
It's this one! Spies AU was a prompt for the 2016 Flashvibe Week so there's a couple in this collection and they're all great, but this one is probably my favourite and I have read it I don't know how many times.

Okay so I am a CS major, Linux user since age 11, custom home server owner, my point is, not to toot my own horn but I'm decent with computers.
So you can understand how it bugs the absolute hell out of me that I don't know how to work Microsoft Word anymore after 8 years or so away from it.
Now that doesn't mean I can't use a word processor. I can use a normal word processor just fine thank you (switch to LibreOffice or WPS y'all). You type in text, you set formatting, done. Easy.
Not in MS Word. Microsoft. Y'all. I do not want to watch a slow animation highlight the entire paragraph any time I try to select text. When I indent a line while writing citations, I want to indent that line and not the whole paragraph. I don't want to change the spacing for the entire document when I highlight one paragraph and select the spacing dropdown. I disagree with your 75 different incoherent suggestions on how to change my writing, each of which I have to disable individually because your developers have clearly never used their own software before.
All of this is shit you can change or turn off but christ, this is what people are using to write documents in the year of our lord 2025?
