Why are they each in the psych ward???
Time- He got a job there and constantly comes home to complain he wants to adopt the kids there to which Malon gently tells him no, but they can be his kids at work.
Warriors- He had maladaptive panic attacks and suicide attempts that interfered with his life. He actually went to court because he was accused of SA Cia, who ended up winning (cause she's a girl) and was court ordered to be there for a year, which grew into a longer time after the panic attacks and thoughts were found. He did go back to court with newfound evidence to get a restraining order against Cia, who was promptly thrown in jail afterwards and later a different ward
Twilight- He got into fights so often, that were so deadly, he was deemed unsafe and had to go into the ward. Sources claim he "fought like a rabid beast". In reality, Twilight just has a hard time keeping his anger in check and tends to act wolfishly when fighting, either because of his temper or because someone he felt needed protecting was being picked on.
Sky- He has severe depression and PTSD and has to be constantly monitored since he has attempted in the facility before. He ends up befriending Legend and feels like he has to stick around long enough to keep Kit safe. He does tend to either be numb all day or a bundle of joy, it really depends on how he feels when he wakes up. His girlfriend regularly visits him, giving him another reason to keep going.
Legend- A lot of anxiety, depression, PTSD, panic episodes, ADHD, schizophrenia, Stendhal syndrome, and he's autistic. Legend has these manic episodes caused by over stimulation that he tends to lash out during. If someone touches him or tries to talk to him during these manic episodes, he'll bite, scratch, and slap them until he's left alone. But that doesn't mean he stops. Legend does harm himself during these episodes (head banging, tugging on his hair, scratching his neck and ears) which was why doctors recommended he'd be placed in one. He did have a plan to attempt, but his roommate Ravio (could be boyfriend, depends on how you want to see it) found it and made sure he wasn't left alone to do it.
Hyrule- He ran away from home because he thought they were abusive and trying to kill him. When found by authorities, it turns out Hyrule is just bipolar. He was placed in because he didn't want to go home, and he's only supposed to be there for a year while they find a treatment plan for him
Wild- He's a pyromaniac to the core. He set fire to his school building and ended up with scarring because of it, but he wants to do it again. He's not allowed within 20 feet of a match anymore. Despite his love for fire, he also has PTSD from it because of his scarring, so some days he'll stare lovingly at the hearth while other days he'll scream and sob and beg someone to put it out. He's with Legend in the "cut my hair and you won't hear the end of it" group. While their hair is supposed to be shorter due to attempt worries, Wild sobs whenever someone comes close with a pair of scissors and Legend screams bloody murder along with him.
Four- He's got DID. One of the alters attempted, another tried to murder someone, a third tries to fight everyone he sees. The only two you are safe from is Red and Green, they tend to be the nicer personalities. Blue is colder and refuses to speak during therapy until you get him to start cleaning, then he's an open book. Vio is just completely silent, and when he does speak you're worried for your life. Shadow is just a psychopath, but he doesn't like fronting all that much, usually letting the others go unless he feels the need to protect the body. When he fronts, which isn't very often, the nurses and doctors need to make sure he's never left alone with another patient. They don't really understand Shadow since they haven't truly met him, but they're trying.
Wind- Schizophrenia and Alice in Wonderland syndrome. He once thought that he was on a ship and got himself hurt after he fell from the playset, but at the time, parents brushed it off as an overactive imagination until he nearly got himself killed because he was trying to climb the flag pole, convinced it was a crow's nest. After that, he was placed inside the ward with his sister and grandma visiting him as well as his friend Tetra, it wasn't until he asked to pass a crayon that was next to his elbow did the Alice in Wonderland syndrome get found.
Thank you for reading this! Sorry, it was a lot!

Togainu no Chi Variety Voice CD
This Drama CD contains two short audio dramas (Toshima Urban Legend and Arbitro’s Plot), audio versions of Arbitro’s Room (Tracks 5-14) and a must-listen final hidden track (Arbitro Time – Vischio Company Song). Link to translations [Google Drive folder]
Track List: Summary
Track 01: Short Drama “Toshima Urban Legend” At Rin’s insistence, Akira and co. check out a certain urban legend. Is the building really haunted? Or is a flesh-and-blood monster responsible for the sightings? Did someone actually feed their pet cat Line for a laugh? [Translation]
Tracks 02-04: Compilation of Reactions The characters react to various scenarios: someone breathing into their ear, coming across an abandoned kitten by the roadside and being told by God that he will grant them one wish. [Translation]
Arbitro’s Room (Tracks 5-14) Audio version of a series of web pages on Nitro+Chiral’s official website, in which Arbitro (and occasionally, one or two of the other characters) answers selected questions from fans. The questions mostly revolve around the fans’ First World problems or their curiosity about Arbitro’s life. Arbitro’s ridiculous answers are truly worth reading for those with a macabre sense of humor. They are all just so typical of him 🤣 Click on the header (“Track....”) for the corresponding translation.
Tracks 05-06 How do I stop my grandmother from wearing my newly-bought socks? I’m too shy to speak to my crush. Does Arbitro keep his mask on at all times?
Track 07 My father’s voice is embarrassingly loud. What is the title of the song Arbitro hums at the beginning of each session? How do I become Arbitro’s pet dog?
Track 08 (Fill-in host: Keisuke) My two male pet hamsters seem to be more interested in each other than the sole female hamster. I’m depressed because I’m short. My dog hates me.
Track 09 (Fill-in host: Rin) I need an effective weight management plan for my chonky dog. My younger brother is a crybaby. How do I deal with a mouth ulcer?
Track 10 How do I leave a strong impression on interviewers?
Track 11 Someone is dumping their garbage in front of my house on days other than the collection days. My new boss keeps getting on my case.
Track 12 (Fill-in host: Akira) I am the only cat people in my social circle, which is filled with dog people. How do I get my hands on a mask similar to Arbitro’s? (unanswered)
Track 13 (Fill-in host: The Executioners) My arms are getting too thick. How can I make them slender like Arbitro’s?
Track 14 Is there any vacancy for a part-timer at Vischio? [Highly recommended!!]
Track 15: Short Drama “Arbitro’s Plot” Gwen orders Akira to investigate an unprecedentedly odd activity at Vischio. The truth turns out to be something much more benign, and, in Akira’s words, “a letdown.” [Translation]
Tracks 16-17 Arbitro’s Monologue Arbitro Time – Vischio Company Song [version with romaji for those who would like to sing along]
Download the Drama CD here.(pw: aarin888)

Huey Emmerich, mgs v cast & hypocrisy, a character analysis
Prefacing this with the fact that this is the morally gray franchise with the morally gray characters and I love how it portrays Huey Emmerich precisely for him being Like That. I think he is one of the most nuanced and well-written mgs characters and I'm pretty sure like half of it wasn't on purpose. He is the guy everyone hates for killing his wife (understandabe reason), trying to make one of his kid pilot a giant robot and almost drowning another in a pool (also understandable reason), and, most of all, for being a traitor. And with such a list, feels a bit weird that the accent often falls on that last part, doesn't it. Which is exactly how the narrative wants you to feel about his betrayal, on a surface level.
Every character essential to the Phantom Pain plot gets their "please feel bad for them, sympathize with them" moment, no matter how horrible a person they are. We get multiple monologs from Kaz, we get the 'I was the same way once' interrogation room and the ending of the Truth with Ocelot, we get Paz tapes and 'you're all diamonds' with Venom, we get Code Talker, Quiet, Eli (if they actually finished mission 51), even Skull Face, somewhat (don't even make me start on that guy. how is he less hated than Huey). The point is, the game is trying to make you feel bad for people who murder, torture, and whatever else, and parts of it are working, because it's fiction, and humans and morality are complicated and layered things! But what does Huey get? Torture sessions and tantrums that are framed as pathetic and ridiculous, even when what he is saying makes sense. Because yeah, there's some of that there. It's just that everyone else in the room deliberately doesn't acknowledge it.
When Venom just finds him, the first thing Huey says is that what happened to MSF was Snake's fault. The same during his exile - that there wouldn't have been an inspection, if there weren't a nuke to begin with. and it's like. he's not wrong. Having their own nukes as an independent military organization was a risk Snake and Kaz didn't just take blindly, they knew what could have happened. It was a gamble, and it didn't work out. If it did, it would've been their achievement. It didn't, so it's all Huey's fault, even though literally anyone could've been in his place. XOF weren't even the first to attempt to attack them, Zero was, Paz just didn't succeed. And if Skull Face hadn't either, someone else would have, the attention of the entire world was on them. It wasn't about betrayal, it was Snake and Kaz being drunk on success and biting off more than they could chew. Yes, Huey is a bastard and a traitor, but are we really going to blame all of this on him?
The answer is yes. And the reason is that they need someone to blame that's not them. The whole big theme of Phantom Pain is that Ocelot, Venom and Kaz have to do their best to keep up appearances, for the sake of Big Boss and his reputation. He is a legend, he is above everyone else, and he can do no wrong. Except after the fall of MSF everyone thinks that he can, Ocelot says as much in the briefing tapes. And they can't have that. So they blame it all on Huey. (<- all of this is a dictatorship allegory and critique of governments and military systems btw. 1984 or whatever I haven't read it. yay symbolism.) And blaming Huey is easy.
Huey is not a fighter. His father was a scientist who worked on the Manhattan Project. He was born on the same day as the Hiroshima bombing, his disability was (presumably) caused by his father's exposure to radiation. It's not that there was no choice involved in what he was going to do in life, but it was kind of inevitable that he would get involved with building nuclear weapons. And even when he says he is thinking about quitting upon being found by Snake in Peace Walker, it's Snake who convinces him not to, offering him to join MSF instead. In the PW tapes he also expresses that if it weren't for his disability, he would've been anywhere else, doing something different and living a "normal life".
He talks about the concept of nuclear terrorism there too, about nukes falling into hands of people without state who would be able to use them however they want, and I wonder if that was part of the reason for his betrayal. He didn't make the decision to bring nukes to base, he doesn't actually know these people. If maybe he thought it prevented a hypothetical nuclear catastrophe. Huey does say that he trusts Snake not to use them, that he values how honest Snake is, and is honest with him in return, even telling him things he's never told anyone before, like about his plagiarism of Granin's work. So what changed between then and the inspection, what was his motivation for betraying MSF, why was he approached about it of all people? Did he lie in the tapes, did he change his mind, did Skull Face offer him something that seemed more compelling, just threaten him? We never get to find out anything about it aside from every other character screaming that he's just a coward. No villain monolog, nothing.
Maybe it was about feeling important, like he is in charge, something that the hostility he has faced throughout his life didn't allow him. Huey is a sheep among wolves (wolf in sheep's clothing more like, but still). He does not fit in with the buff cool masculine soldiers, and even while working with Strangelove at NASA, he was regarded as obnoxious and spineless. It's not surprising he agreed to work for Coldman, since he, apparently, was the first person to actually recognize his skills. And even that later turns out to be a lie told to use him. Huey rarely if at all has been treated seriously, he is an outcast, even among people who share his ideas.
All he has is his brain and his knowledge, but it's never framed as much of an achievement (despite people exploiting it left and right), nor is him essentially being the nerd in a military setting ever really viewed as something dorky or endearing by the narrative like with Otacon, because the characters around him don't see him as such (as a result, so don't the players). On top of that, every other person uses his mobility aids to further degrade/harm/threaten him, even though he is already harmless when it comes to physical confrontation. In short, people he is surrounded with just enjoy the powerplay.
Right up until the point he actually does something that hurts them. And this is where my favorite part kicks in.
All three Diamond Dogs' higher-ups blame Huey for slightly different reasons, some maybe even believing that they are in the right and entitled to it (looking at you Kazuhira), but I am more than sure they know what it is that they're doing. And it's not like Kaz lacks self-awareness either, I don't think. Maybe it's denial that some of his actions led to the death of his friends, maybe blind belief in his own martyrdom and self-righteousness (sounds an awful lot like another character we know, huh), it still doesn't change much. How they all frame the story is the same. Huey's powerless and pathetic, but has ruined everything at the same time. And it doesn't really make sense, but everyone on the base agrees. It's the moment where individuals turn into a crowd that demands blood, but at least it's not their commanders it's directed at!
The Questioning Huey (6) tape is a good example of that. I especially like the bit where he starts talking about how DD is not actually a dog, because on a smaller scale, it shows how people on Mother Base just roll with things that are objectively false and turn on anyone who says otherwise. No, DD is our beloved mascot, and we are called dogs, he is just like us. And it's not like DD is just a wolf either, so neither of them are right here. But each of them thinks that they are.
That's why the amount of genuine Huey hate is a bit amusing to see, I guess. Because it's precisely the thing the game is trying to commentate on. None of these people are good. None of them have it figured out. The point is that it's just narrative bias that makes you belive that some are, if not good, at least better than others. In reality, it's never about morals or being correct, just perspective.
Huey himself, on the other hand, falls into another extreme - in his eyes, he's done nothing wrong. Because he can do no wrong, he's powerless, like everyone's alway told him, remember? He sees himself as the victim, because in a lot of cases, he is.
You can say that he is a lying traitor and that the truth serum didn't work on him because of some failsafe Skull Face thought of, but really, would he bother? He didn't even view Huey as anything but a traitor he despised. you know, the guy who was in charge of organizing the betraying part. the guy who put bombs in people and wanted to commit mass-murder on a scale no one has seen before. So the obvious and the most simple answer here is that Huey whole-heartedly, truly believes he hasn't done anything wrong. He thinks he doesn't possess the power to, that he isn't important enough. And it's drilled so deep into him he never acknowledges it's not really true. Even when he kills Strangelove, he still doesn't accept that it is his fault and his actions matter.
That's my favorite part about him, I think. How deep in denial he is about having an impact on the people around him, while also having a sort of god complex when it comes to his machines. How everyone around despises him for it, while being the ones who caused it and doing the exact same thing, refusing to get off the high horse. Metal gear is a messy franchise about messy people, but it's good exactly because it shows what has messed these people up so much. And more often than not, it's the system they're surrounded by, or that they created themselves in an attempt to escape the previous one. It's easy to point at Huey as just a bad person and only that, but I find the context of his whole life and the ways he's coping with it really compelling. There is a lot of complexity to it, and in the end of the day, they are all hypocrites.
#mgs#metal gear solid#who up metalling their gear guys I'm here to talk about huey emmerich for an uncomfortable amount of words#this has been slowly getting written in my notes since april I've been chipping at it away for a bit.#to be honest I just found some parts of him highly relatable#the feeling of powerlessness/god complex is generally a very appealing theme to me#and while I don't really feel it like That. it kind of stuck with me. it's just sad on a lot of levels#especially knowing what happens to him later in life#did you know that huey isn't even his real name but a nickname strangelove gave him that he goes by#faksyan talks mgs#faksyan talks#huey emmerich#I guess I'm tagging this too what do I have to lose#hueyposting

I love the sheer sibling chaos of Edgeworth v Von Karma in Bridge to the Turnabout. The way Franziska flew out no questions asked when Miles needed her (literally no questions, she did not know who she was facing in court), gaslighting the judge together, the little passive aggressive remarks throughout all the proceedings, and of course “Legends are a thing of the past. I am a Von Karma. That is all.”
I love the development that they both undergo throughout all of the PW trilogy, both taking the journey to unlearn Manfred’s ideology and understanding what being a prosecutor means to them. The way that they are always there for each other while also never missing an opportunity to call one another an idiot— or a fool, is so accurate to having a sibling.
I love the Von Karma siblings with my entire heart and soul

mgsv and mgs2 are i think the most literary of the games, in the sense of how the storytelling is delivered. mgsv in particular shines as a radio play— many of the most important, most essential elements of its story, its unmissable moments, are delivered through audio alone, acted and portrayed with great immersive depth, even the foley work employed for emotional effect. i mean skull face transforms into an interesting character during his conversation with zero, because he's no longer this bombastic nonsense villain, in the tape those qualities are understated and nuanced. they're really, really good. i'm so impressed by everyone's performance.
when the characters are most human— miller and huey, for better and worse, are good examples— they provide an anchors, bookmarks, cues, even if what they tell us is bad news. like i'm not saying "emotional" or "human" to imply positivity or benevolence, lol. miller's tunnel vision is motivated by emotions and he is a warmonger, he is a war capitalist with a completely batshit lust for revenge— a reinvention of the past as opposed to building a future. hubris is always tragic.
the characters who behave with unaffected remove, like ocelot, are compelling from a completely different angle— you cannot empathise with them. or like, i GUESS you can, i guess YOU can, but i don't believe they were created to be empathised with; they were created to deviate from the paths on which david and otacon stay. it's tragic and very satisfying to watch those changes take place and see what really sticks in their craw and defines their actions going forward.
at the end of snake eater, or in pw, it's much easier to empathise with big boss because he's still grappling with grief. but he changes. miller changes too, but he doesn't think about the world in the same way as big boss or ocelot. they operate on a global scale, they see the world from the top down, as something to be manipulated, because they have real power to manipulate it at that level.
the boss is a fantastic contrast to ocelot (naturally) because she, too, is unattainable, she is always out of reach, a martyr, she is a martyr before the end of the game and the tragedy is that she has already become the past. her fate is already sealed before snake can really process it and what he has to do. and big boss, desperate to preserve himself to the profound detriment of everyone else, will never understand her. but we can. david can. she is unattainable to big boss and those who want to use her further. it makes sense then that strangelove is closest to her, because although strangelove wanted to resurrect her, her motivations for doing so and her change of heart take a different form. her final tape is fucking heartbreaking and is much more human— humanising!!!!
in his directionless sorrow, at a pivotal moment (peace walker) big boss decides the boss was wrong and chose a path of weakness and betrayal; that her idea was close to correct, but her actions were wrong because they wronged him. he's a fucking moron. he couldn't answer strangelove even when she tortured him— not because he's a liar but because he doesn't know. pacifism has never been a consideration for him. the boss saved the world from nuclear war, sacrificing herself so that the country which set her up gets to variously claim and debase her— america did this to the boss, but she was also "a true patriot." it's cruel.
(as if nation-states have some inherent essence; america's mythology implies Real True Values one can exemplify, as if it's not built on shitty racist colonialist sand. a soldier does represent and enforce a government and an ideology through violence, so yeah, that is patriotism. and that sucks.)
hmm ok i lost my train of thought
what else was i going to say
uhh
a lot of the gameplay, while substantiated through things like rumours circulating on base (forming a legend) unfortunately still comes off as kind of Whatever when i see what was achieved through dialogue alone. i personally think the PO/PW/MGSV mission style/base-building sucks incalculable amounts of ass, a complete slog, honestly. it felt like a weird swerve all the way back in 2010 or whatever, games built for the Achievements era. it's especially a slog after THREEEEE GAMES of the same type, FOUR GAMES about big boss as if i couldn't already figure out that he's a murderously misguided dumbass on day 1, which characterises every single thing he does. i can imagine it. i love to see it, love to see the bullshit he does and the lies he tells himself and everyone else, there are things in pw and mgsv that are so deeply crucial and a beautiful tasty treat. but also? I got it. i think that's also why the tapes work so well, because i'm being allowed to imagine.
yeah yeah blah blah metal gear is movies. but like, they aren't. mgs4 is the most Ok I'm Watching The Movie— but mgs 1-4 are videogames. they're cinematic, but they are games, and during gameplay it's cinematic. mgs1 is obviously goated but twin snakes' camera really helps this too, it's very elegant. i think one of the best examples is the tower, going in and out while fighting the harrier and waiting for otacon, it maintains a strong sense of dread aided by how well-shot it is, even while you're just running the fuck around. like outside of cutscenes. it's beautiful! too bad they put it on a fucking nintendo???!!!????!!!????!???????
mgsv it's kind of just a film/radio drama that's physically difficult to progress through lol. a film that's really hard to watch because for some reason you have to stop and go recruit a mercenary until you see the next part of the film. lmao

POWER OF THE TRIFORCE AND EXTATUM & ORATUM

Music for the masses
youtube

Butterbean vs. Suzuki w/ Enforcer Dan Severn is Happening!
No, this is not a late April Fools joke. Butterbean is wrestling Minoru Suzuki at the WrestleCon Super Show! Not only that, but Dan “The Beast” Severn is the special enforcer! A pro wrestling legend, MMA/PW legend, plus boxing and life legend, Butterbean! This sounds like a match I would make on a video game. And I mean that in the nicest way possible. Sometimes I see graphics and think “that’s…

Brownells…King of Retro?

What is retro? Well it can be described as something from the past, from history. In the firearm world, retro typically is an older firearm style that’s not commonly produced any longer. Could be an old shotgun or bolt action, maybe even a lever gun. When it comes to retro military style firearms, Brownells has been the absolute king of retro in recent years. Many are trying to do what Brownells has been doing for quite some time.

Some years ago Brownells launched their complete line of retro rifles. The main attraction here were the M16 rifle variants from around the beginning of Stoner’s M16 design. Think of what our soldiers were carrying in the 60’s and 70’s during the Vietnam war. There were a number of M16 rifle and carbine variants. Many folk were getting some what tired of the same old Mlok handguards and flat top receivers and wanted to go back in time to the days of drum rear sights, front sight- post gas blocks and carry handles. Brownells launched their retro line with the help of content creators like MrGunsngear and Hank & Lola Strange. It was a hit! But that wasn’t their only trick.

Some years later, Brownells in conjunction with PWS thought it a great idea to bring back a modernized variant of the old Armalite AR-180/AR-18 rifle. This is a gas piston AR variant. So the Brownells BRN-180 was born! I own 2 BRN-180 builds at the moment and these things are a hoot! The platform runs great suppressed as well with it’s adjustable gas system. You can dial back the gas to operate the piston to compensate for the increased backpressure from a suppressor. The system works and works very well in my experience. Brownells didn’t just stop with one BRN-180, but has offered them in calibers like 7.62x39, .300 Blackout, .223 Wylde as well as .350 Legend. Many different barrel length from 10.5” up to 18” to choose from as well. One of their super slick ideas was a .300 Blackout version with a gas shut off so that you can run it more like a straight pull bolt action for supe stealth quietness using a suppressor and subsonic ammunition. And just to keep the retro action happening, they offered a replica AR-180 style folding buttstock.

In the last couple of years Brownells has started offering the different style retro upper receivers, bolt carrier groups as well as other period specific parts such as castle nuts and charging handles. So for those of us that prefer to build our own retro rifle, Brownells has got you covered! One of my more recent builds was a retro inspired Dissipator build using a Brownells C7 carry handle upper receiver and A1 furniture. This has been one of my all time favorite retro inspired builds and I’m already looking forward to another one. So who is the king of retro? With out a doubt currently it’s the good folks over at Brownells who continue to bring the heat with their retro line up.
