What will it be about?

Imagine the Pyro class, its bursting enthusiasm, its complicity, the sharing of passions and sense of duty. Everything tires Diluc, too reserved to go along with it. And Thoma, originally from Mondstadt, who finally meets the young Ragnvindr to whom he has so much to say and ask, away from the Kamisato can only become his faithful shadow. Added to this already rather peculiar duo is a Sumerian mercenary as feisty as a lioness, but in search of a master to follow. And Diluc is just right for her!

Diluc, Dehya and Thoma have a really fun and endearing dynamic. But I imagined something special and unique for them, some kind of lasting storyline.

‘The triad (of success)’ is the name of the team in which the three of them take turns most frequently. I often use Dehya and Thoma together and when I return to Dragonspine Diluc takes the lead in the team - together with Bennett.

Kaeya and Diluc Angst AU (platonic/brother lore) SUB SHIFT

It was a normal day in Mondstadt. The people are having fun, the shops are running, the bars are packed and the knights need not to be in alert because... everything sounded peaceful with the tune of the winds flute.

Kaeya was in the library, spending his time looking over the documents he needs to round up as ordered by Jean. He was bored but he didnt want to wave his sword today so he rather sit and read. It was all magical and euphoric and silent in Mondstadt until Kaeya was disturbed with a loud scream coming from Jean's office.

"KLEE?!" Kaeya rushed out of the library and headed to Jean's room.

"Jean? What's wrong? " Kaeya arrived in the room to see Jean, Lisa and other knights equipped with a horrified face.

There he learned about the current hostage taking of an abyss mage. Klee was taken custody by a lunatic mage who mangled with Klee's bomb and placed a destructive timer in the bomb; worst case was Klee was tied to the bomb.

Everyone was horrified by the event. The knights were all angered and baffled by the actions of the mage, yet they head out of the office just to be greeted by the hellish view of Klee on the foot of the anemo archon's statue surrounded by scorching fire. No one can explain how an abyss mage entered Mondstadt but their focus was on getting Klee out. The knights already took care of the Mage that they had just shaken for some instructions on how to put out the bomb.

Just as the Knights were able to reach the foot of the Anemo Archon Statue, Diluc came rushing in with a puzzled look. Jean greeted him and oriented him about the situation. They have discussed how hydro can put out the fire but the bomb has a root like system that when touch may detonate it.

"The bomb is sensitive. It would be hard to get Klee out." Kaeya whispered to himself.

The nights had been debating on what to do yet the Kid is not getting out any time soon. Kaeya, being concerned offered an idea.

" We can't set the fire off and detonate the bomb at the same time but, I'll try and get Klee out. "

" But? How? " Jean asked.

" I'll try and cover my skin with ice. That should do it. Even for a second I'll be able to get Klee—" he wasn't done yet but Diluc interrupted.

"I'll do it. " Everyone looked at him.

" This is not the time for showing off, brother. "

" I'm a pyro vision. Fire will barely harm me. I'll just need to get her out, right? I see no problem in doing such simple task. "

Kaeya frowned and faced Diluc with a serious face.

" You cannot just waltz in that fire and act like you're invincible. You need to do it in a very slow and careful manner in order to avoid the bomb detonating. You will burn Diluc. " Kaeya emphasizes.

Diluc gave Kaeya one look and proceeds to the fire like he heard nothing.

"NO. BASTARD YOU'LL BURN! " Kaeya run after him and tried to seize Diluc's hand and pull him away.

" Let go. " He said and yanked Kaeya's hand.

" Are you braindead? You might have that vision but it doesn't give you immunity! You'll get your body burn! " Kaeya explains.

"ENOUGH! Klee needs to get out. "

" Master Diluc, use your brain and step aside. Let me—"

Before Kaeya utter another word, Diluc entered the pits of flame. And in that moment, Kaeya's world seemed to slow down. He was mortified. He can't hear anything but his rapid heartbeat, and in a split second, a flaming phoenix carried Klee out of the fire. Klee was saved but where is Diluc?

Everyone was shocked and even before Kaeya can move, Diluc's sword slides in front of his foot. He raised his head in horror trying to search for a pair of red eyes and there, he found it. His body unconsciously moved but right before he can even call his name, he saw Diluc's soulless eyes smile. The sight of his skin shedding blood and getting burns cut Kaeya's thread of sanity.

In sycnh with Kaeya's footstep, the bomb detonated. Kaeya's heart stopped and his eyes went bright blue. He was blinded by his emotion and he had lost control of his vision. He had failed again.

He could not protect his brother. Kaeya screamed in frustration and along with his piercing cold voice, a blizzard engulfed Mondstadt and his body. The fire extinguished due to the powerful amount of snow and ice. Diluc was saved, but Kaeya was unable to know as his heart turned ice cold and his body turned into a monument as his pledge of a long lost friendship.

Elemental Skill: Now You See Me

Leo channels his Anemo energy into his sword, throwing it forward a short distance before turning into an Anemo wisp and teleporting to the sword's location after a short delay. Enemies caught in the attack's path will take Anemo damage on the sword's initial impact as well as a slightly larger amount when Leo teleports. This ability can hold up to 2 charges and generates elemental energy on each use.

Elemental Burst: Hachi Machi

Leo creates an Anemo portal at his location. Sending other party members' abilities through either portal creates a ball of Anemo energy infused with that ability's element that travels between the two points for the portal's duration. This ability deals the elemental damage of the ability within the portal, as well as added Anemo damage. Only Pyro, Electro, Hydro, or Cryo elemental skills or bursts can be sent through the portals.

I want an au where Diluc doesn't take back his vision after he comes back, whether out of a still lingering grudge and stubborness or- in the opposite direction- he feels guilty, like he doesn't deserve his Vision, especially since it didn't allow him to save his father and was used to hurt the only person he has left.

And he starts changing. Kaeya at first thinks Diluc genuinely hates him bc he's still acting cold and it goes on for awhile. Then, Kaeya realizes he's just like that now... with everyone. His usual at least semi-courteous tone he used to use with patrons and business partners is now flat. He ran into (followed) Diluc and Jean and noticed the former was distant, if not borderline callous to his once childhood friend.

Kaeya makes another observation when the traveller finally comes around. Diluc is weirdly self-destructive in a way he wasn't before. Where he used to be cool and mindful of the battlefield, he throws himself into the fray with reckless abandon. His flames which used to be so controlled, run along the edges of his clothes, uncaring for the damage they may cause. And of course, there's the vigilantism that he doesn't want to address with a 10 ft pole (unless it's to tease Diluc about the name).

It all comes to a head when- for one reason or another- Kaeya has to come to the Winery and... he's at a loss for words. Diluc isn't unkind to Adelinde but- if Kaeya hadn't known any better, hadn't also been raised by her- he would thought the two were any other pair of master and servant. At the resigned look from the closest thing he had to a mother, he decides enough is enough.

He rushes Diluc to his office and confronts him straight up. Diluc denies it all, that he has no place to comment on his behaviour anymore. Then, Kaeya pulls out the pyro Vision that he's taken to carrying with him just in case. And Diluc *flinches*.

Speedrun the ending: after a very painful conversation that probably involves a lot of yelling, threats, and at least one elemental reaction, the two can come to an understanding. And after a series of timeskips (and reconciliation talks), Kaeya helps Diluc get over his sudden incompatibility with his vision and the associated guilt.

Hey I'm sorry but I read all your posts about In a Windless Land today and it's all I've been thinking about all day for various different reasons so now, if I may ask, what is Jean and Lisa's relationship like in this AU? :>

Also, it might not be the most plot relevant thing, but I was very curious about the bit about Jean and Diluc's past where Diluc accidentally burned Jean when he first recieved his Vision... What happened?

The exact details of Jean and Lisa's relationship are kind of up in the air still? Despite initially positing this as a Jean/Kaeya AU, I have given in to the urge to make Kaeya aromantic again here, which has serious magical and ritual implications (again, fairytale leanings here--"true love" is an actual magical force that Kaeya assumes he's shut out of), but also means the relationship that develops between them isn't a romantic one but a partnership of mutual respect. (Kaeya is trying very hard to make Jean happy in Khaenri'ah as its future Queen, not as his wife, which is a nice but vitally important distinction.) Which leaves the field open for Jean/Lisa, one of my favorite things! XD But also, Jean did not come here to ruin this alliance by cheating on her husband, and also I don't know how much space I'd have for that subplot, so it may not manifest within this story itself. Regardless, though, Lisa is Jean's counselor and guide throughout on how to be a surfacer (from Mondstadt, even) in Khaenri'ah, helping her navigate customs, attitudes, and, of course, the magic. She trusts and values Lisa a lot, and sees her as kind of a lifeline when she's overwhelmed, because Lisa will always pause what she's doing to pull out some tea and give Jean a comfortable space to relax. :>

(Diluc, on the other hand, deeply mistrusts Lisa, because he realizes when she's chewing him out over the names thing that she has some inkling about his brother and she won't tell him what it is. Which is why the librarian he ends up relying on is Enjou. Who is getting such a good grade in secret agenting for that particular coup. :3c )

As for that childhood burn, I honestly didn't have a lot of details in mind beside my persistent headcanon that Diluc, getting his Vision so young and having a temper, very likely had control issues around his Pyro when he was mad! I'd vaguely imagined it as something like, he and Jean were sparring, she was clearly winning and said something about it that really grated, and he inadvertently sent fire down his sword and scorched her. I didn't have a clear picture, though. Just that it was an unconscious lashing-out and the first time he'd actually hurt someone doing so, which was shocking and upsetting for them both.

Act I: Denial

“What? You like him?” The Mini-Creator squeaks, voice becoming unusually high and mouse-like. Their mother rested comfortably on an armchair next to them, a tiny smirk present on her honest features. 

“Yes, I like evil men.” She answered, angling her head proudly and leaning back. But the Mini-Creator would have none of it. Scrambling for their collection of photos in their back pocket, they hastily flipped through the different faces until Arataki Itto peeked out. 

“You said you liked him too, and he isn’t evil!” They argued, nearly shoving the character card into the Creator’s face. “Why is he so different!?”

“This guy’s too outgoing. Too… energetic.” Their mother states, cringing back. “I like the other one better. Come on, shall we visit him?”

Act II: Anger

Several minutes later, the Mini-Creator found themselves seated across the seasoned (pun intended) chef herself, Xiangling. Close by, Guoba skipped around them in contentment, occasionally leaping onto the table for a nibble of the Mini-Creator’s meal. Much to the displeasure of his foodie friend.

“SHE HAD THE AUDACITY TO CLAIM THAT DILUC WAS UGLY!” The Mini-Creator shouted, arms falling to their sides in exasperation. “And Kaeya’s voice is ‘not bad’? WHAT IS SHE ON ABOUT? HIS VOICE IS IMMACULATE, MIND YOU!” 

Guoba reappeared in front of their legs, tilting his head with worry and patting their thighs with his stubby hands. The Mini-Creator scoffed and shifted their gaze away, though their reciprocating motions would say otherwise about their agitation. Meanwhile, Xiangling fidgeted awkwardly. 

“Um… Your Grace… n-not to interrupt, but… your stew is going cold…”

Act III: Bargaining 

“But he’s broke!” The Mini-Creator cried out, abruptly interrupting a cuddle session between their mother and an unsuspecting pyro slime. 

“Then I’ll be the breadwinner.” She returned unfazed, delicately petting the ball of warmth in her arms. It melted (pun intended) and cooed with delight at her touch. 

“But he works at a funeral parlor!” Her child squeaked out, voice becoming unsteady under the gravity of her will. Perhaps it was beginning to settle how the Creator’s divine favor could never waver so easily.

“I can live with that.” She winked out, giggling amusedly at the Mini-Creator’s escalating exasperation. ‘They’ll survive with a minor rejection.’ She mused to herself. ‘It’s better to be humbled every once in a while.’ 

“BUT HE’S THE GOD OF WAR!” The Mini-Creator persisted, now ascending into a choked yelp at their parent’s unfaltering demeanor. 

‘Wait, no! I shouldn’t have said that! Mom likes evil men-’ 

“Then, he’s precisely my type.” She grinned, bouncing a bit in her chair for emphasis. It was apparent now how the word ‘checkmate’ seemed to shamelessly vibrate off of her being. 

“...” Defeated in their final battle, the Mini-Creator had nothing left to say. They instead marched hurriedly away from the lounge area, leaving their mother heartily laughing. 

Act IV: Depression

The Mini-Creator was practically swallowed by the walls of their bedroom, invisible tears bleeding from their bruised ego heart. They curled up into themselves on the silk sheets, whining and whimpering like a wounded kitten. Although the lavish furniture did nothing to comfort them, their swiftly summoned visitors did. 

“It’ll be alright, Your Grace…” Barbara softly massaged their back, wishing her powers could heal whatever was upsetting them so much. But there was little that could be done; the Mini-Creator wouldn’t divulge their troubles to anyone. A sense of helplessness infected her kind face, frantically wondering what it was about her that deemed her untrustworthy. She could definitely be of assistance! If only-

An elegant knock sounded from the door, not too noisy yet not too lax. After a short “enter,” from Barbara, a familiar maid stepped into the room. In her balanced grasp was a comically oversized bucket of ice-cream, a well beloved treat of the Mini-Creator. Barbara momentarily left their side to close the door while Noelle approached the crestfallen god. 

“Your Grace, I’ve brought- eep!” Before the wondermaid could finish her greeting, she was hastily snatched into the Mini-Creator’s haphazard embrace. Both she and Barbara were internally thankful that the container was sealed tighter than an iron knot. No spills to tidy up and no sullied Mini-Creator to worsen their condition. 

“WAAAAAAAAAAH!” They wailed, clinging onto Noelle as if she were their favorite stuffed animal. The maid felt a slight munch on her hair, much to everyone's alarm. In the midst of their dazed senses, the poor Mini-Creator couldn’t differentiate between Noelle’s pale locks and their precious vanilla ice-cream. 

“U-Uh…” Noelle shifted uncomfortably. “Your Grace…?”

It was truly an honor to be held so dearly in the Mini-Creator’s time of distress, yet there was no rebuking how… unusual(?) the situation was. Noelle was accustomed to cleaning, cooking, sewing, and a myriad of other tasks. Just not whatever was happening here. Green eyes wandered to Barbara for aid. A sensible choice, if it weren’t for the equally dumbfounded deaconess. 

Act V: Acceptance Vengeance 

“THAT’S IT!” The Mini-Creator combusted, leaping off of the mattress and seemingly exorcising themselves of their grief. “NOELLE!”

“Yes, Your Grace-”

“MY MOTHER MAY BE THE CREATOR.” They began, firmly grabbing Noelle by her sleeve. “BUT YOU KNOW WHAT SHE DOESN’T KNOW HOW TO DO? BUILD CHARACTERS.” 

“ONWARDS, NOELLE!” The Mini-Creator declared, yanking her out of the door and into the empty hallway. “I SHALL CONSTRUCT A SHIELD STRONG ENOUGH TO ANNIHILATE A GOD!”

“Oh, and Barbara?” They paused, bashfully shuffling back towards the befuddled blonde. “You may help yourself, as a reward.” The Mini-Creator gestured to the forgotten ice-cream with a polite smile. “See you!” 

Despite her steadfast and caring nature, the Creator was exactly as her name suggested; a creator. Both to the stunning sceneries of Teyvat, and to her precious little one, the Mini-Creator. Thus, it would be almost surreal for any of her acolytes to see her now, startled and silent as she gaped at the sight passing by; tea effectively ignored and eyebrows shooting up. It was her precious little one, lugging her most reliable helper around like a claymore out of the house and to who-knows-where-because-the-Creator-certainly-doesn’t. 

“VENGEANCE WILL BE MINE!” They screech, followed by imperceptible rumbles across the mansion’s courtyard.

messy pyro archon bennett concept smiley i'm not *really* a genshiner anymore because sumeru left me with. a really bad taste in my mouth and also i got really burnt out of the system (AND ALSO my laptop tried to end itself with the sumeru update so playing beyond that point was kind of out of the question) however: i will always and forever be a bennett lover for as long as i live and breathe this kid deserves the world and more this is a part of an au/old, old theory that i had where bennett was originally from natlan and was basically murata's new vessel--which is why he was found in all the scorched earth by the adventurer's guild cause. pyro archon. shit happens when you're a child of fire he also had a like. zelda skyward sword arc where he needed to remember his life and lessons as the archon of war in order to grow into his position now does that...make sense and this also tied in with my theory about celestia getting closer with each passing gnosis taken (nobody tell me if this is true or not let me live in denial forever /j cause celestia crashing down is far more fun than. the curvature of the world-egg-whatever universe genshin resides in i forget the enkanomiya lore) and razor, fischl, kaeya, albedo and xingqiu and chongyun were all there cheering him on or something i don't really remember all too well. i'm refining it so they will absolutely have more purpose but they're also there because they're ben's family and i will NOT take constructive criticism wow that's a lot of words. too bad im not readin em!! anyways yeah that's arch!benny. he lives in my brain rent free and maybe one day i'll finish the story

I mean like - fairytale AUs. ALL the fairytale AUs - og, disney, reworked, e v e r y t h i n g

So far i got:

Cinderella/Fae AU (totally not in the process of writing that one, nope, not me) - just. Venti in a pretty dress, yes pls (also lots of probably not-that-true fae lore, bc i am a beginner with fae lore but once i grab an idea i grow several wildly different things out of it, oops)

Tangled AU with Diluc as the princess for a change - babyboi be struggling with expressing his need for freedom and Venti!thethief helping him (yes to all the musical scenes) - i have this really strong image of Dottore as Mother Gothel (bc of the manga, where he was being very predatory towards my poor boy Diluc) also Corona/whatever the name of the kingdom is def has a missing person poster left up for Diluc (his fake/new name could be Phoenix? Bc that sounds vaguely science-y and i don't wanna name him after a vegetable) and Crown Prince Kaeya (also Captain of the Guard aka, taking the role of Max the horse in this) spends half the runtime trying to figure out if Venti is scamming him with Diluc or if that introverted idiot is really supposed to be his older brother (the answer is yes. Yes he is.) I have no idea what to do with the magic hair bit, but i am sure it can be worked in somehow - i am really hoping my hoe of a muse won't decide that i wanna write this one, i am in the middle of way too many projects

Mulan AU, bc we love that one too - i admit, i don't really have the logistics worked out, even in my head, but i got this image of putting people in squads - like Anemo, Pyro, etc... Poor Venti wanting to be in a squad with hotguysecondincommand!Diluc but gets stuck in the Anemo squad instead (i have no idea where that one would go or even who would fight who, or even how the plot of Mulan - og ballad or rework - would fit into it, but i can hear BE A MAN be sung by genshin characters and that is a GOOD image)

Little mermaid AU (yes Venti as a princess again. We love Venti in pretty dresses!) - basically usual premise, but couldn't leave my fav princess story out - would have a bit more time for the bois to fall in love tho bc yes, we love some extended date scenes (no idea who Ursula/the sea witch would be or if they were even malevolent or benevolent in this story, but... yeaaaah. The rest of teh Archons can be mermaids too, cause why not, there's supposedly 7 of them anyway)

Beauty and the Beast - kinda more like the og tales (aka Venti!Belle is not an only child, there isn't really a Gaston character, etc... i might end up writing that one if i am not careful enough xD) - fairy!Lumi gets drunk and curses Diluc, bc everyone's fav redhead is a mess when it comes to love... Nobody turns into furniture, instead, they are locked in paintings (only one painting per person, meaning they can't even reach anyone! So sad, but hey at least they can gossip with Belle!Venti about the master of the house... i put way too much thought into this help xD

kaeya fic is part of a lil collab thing me n my buddy @lorelune are doing. lore is taking on diluc! and i am taking on kaeya! and our concept is basically...really falling in love. the Big Realization of it. being Overtaken By It. a sort of All Encompassing Love. it is...wrangling the brothers and making them Come to Heel for Love.

mine in particular is about a pyro user who is a performer/artist in Mondstadt. they're sorta the pride and joy of Mond's people. and after they've caught the eyes of the fatui, they turn to kaeya for help. and he agrees to watch out for them and get to the bottom of things. there's a dash of fake dating. a dash of bodyguard au, if you will. and a lot of wrestling w love!!

they'll be a bigger announcement in a few days here about it 👀👀

you know whats funny to me about Jean is that out of everyone in anemo, she's the only one without a dead loved one/friend

so anyways au where barbara's dead around the time or during jean's vision story and the reprecussions of such an event-

That said, on some thought, the damning thing about that idea is that depending on the circumstances, I could see it not changing things for Jean that much! If Barbara dies outside her sphere of responsibility, e.g. of an illness or something, given the level of separation canon implies... Jean is sadder and lonelier and wistful about missed chances, and maybe resonates more with the Traveler's specific quest the way Diluc and Kaeya do in canon (I will always hate that canon makes a huge point of the boys' estrangement and barely touched the girls'. Jean also has a sibling just out of reach, let her also make cryptic comments about likewise missing family and then highlight it in multiple later events), but it doesn't change her much as a person.

So, of course, to make the AU satisfying it has to happen within her sphere of responsibility.

Have Barbara killed as the result of the Fatui plants and Abyss Order schemes that Jean is rooting out when she gets her Vision. It still doesn't change Jean into a different person, I think mostly it intensifies her self-destructive sense of duty a lot earlier than canon (where it's implied that only gets bad when Varka leaves), but it potentially gives us a more run-ragged, hardened, sadder Jean by game start. The Diluc transformation, but doubling down on everything she's been raised to instead of abandoning it. If she'd been better, if the Ordo had been better, Barbara would still be alive. She'll reform them both so that it never happens again.

(@theabysscomeshome and I have an AU where the knight trio swaps Visions, and Jean has Pyro there because her overriding goal is to cleanse and purify the Ordo, and by extension Mondstadt, of all malign influence*. It's for different reasons, but I think Pyro might fit her here for the same reasons, or Electro c.f. the Crimson Peak AU.)

*Not a perfect match for Pyro, I know, but we were justifying the swap. >>

Anyway, I think the other thing with strong potential there is a shift in her relationship with Noelle. While canon is absolutely not doing this, I have previously posited this for other AUs and could probably write an essay on Noelle's potential to be a Replacement Goldfish for Barbara in Jean's subconscious. You have a sweet, determined younger girl driven to become a Knight, whom Jean doesn't consider ready yet... add in how she idolizes Jean and you have the perfect storm for a sadder, more hardened Jean determined to make Noelle everything that Barbara didn't have a chance to be. A miraculous healer, a prominent and popular figure (I already like Noelle as Jean's successor in a long-term endgame, but Jean deliberately trying to raise her up from the start is different), able to defend herself, spending the time with her she never got with Barbara.... Jean becomes Noelle's Fredrica but with substantially more affection, which I don't think balances out how bad this would be for both of them. :D
