i tried my hand at a little adventurecore (more specifically taverncore) writing. i imagine that all of that questing and adventuring around is as emotionally tiring as it is physically so... here you go.

The rain is pouring down outside, falling so fast that you can't hear the individual raindrops against the window of the tavern. You're soaked to the bone, and you take off your cloak as you walk up to the bar.

The barman is friendly, too friendly for your tastes. Not that you don't trust him, of course, you've had a many good conversations with the fellow before, back in your starry-eyed adventuring youth, but right now his smile makes you irritated, wondering in the back of your mind when the last time you smiled was.

"G'evening, traveler!" he says as you sit on one of the bar stools. "Fancy seeing you here again. How was that last quest? Go alright?"

"I suppose," you say with a shrug.

"You're really making a name for yourself, kid," he said. "A lot of people are grateful for what you're doing, fighting evil and all that."

"Yeah." You put your head down on the table, exhausted. You never noticed how tired you were until you stopped to rest.

"You know what, I like you, kid."

"'m not a kid."

"Well, either way, you're clearly tired. Need food? Anything you want, on the house."

"No, you don't have to," you say, sitting back up straight.

"Oh, come on, you deserve a good meal right about now. What do you want?"

"What do I want?" you mutter with a sad laugh.

"Who's to say. But I do know what you need. A warm meal and a dry place to sleep tonight. Come on, you can't pass up an offer like this."

"No. I suppose I can't."
