Sometimes being in environmental law means that your schedule for the afternoon gets completely thrown because a colleague standing the middle of some woods calls to tell you that there’s gunk in the stream and it smells bad.
#to be clear the legal question was who else they were supposed to call#I am not actually responsible for de-gunking the stream#miro irl#real lawblr

I think I'd need to retake the flash-training module on humanoid biology.
#codywan#digital art#star wars#I think it would be hilarious if cody was the person anakin went to for help when he found out padme was pregnant#like he's a responsible adult but not a jedi and doesn't have the same expectations of him that palpatine does#so in anakin's brain cody's the obvious choice to give advice#potential reasons behind cody's confusion:#1- he and obi-wan are not actually in a relationship (no matter how much they'd like to be)#2- they are in a relationship but they're both cis or both trans#3- they are in a relationship but the trans one tops#i think its funniest if cody and obi-wan *are* together but anakin doesn't know that and he still leads with this question

Ladybug and Chat Noir hosting a podcast where they're going to interview Adrien Agreste and so Adrien has to enlist Félix to pretend to be him and Félix gets to just. Make fun of Adrien to his face and to a national audience. Chat Noir keeps arguing with Félix’s Adrien about his own opinions so the next day all the news is about how much everyone thinks Chat Noir hates Adrien Agreste
#I just think Félix making fun of Adrien right in front of him#while Adrien can't do anything to combat it without revealing his identity is funny#ladybug's like 'we have a question from a fan: chat noir and adrien both pun a lot! can you tell us your reasons for why?'#and chat noir has a whole beautiful thoughtful response to it#and then they flip to félix who is like. 'im mentally ill'#miraculous ladybug

what i don't understand about people totally writing off helena as evil and nothing more is 1) this show is filled with characters with so much nuance and so many layers. every single one of them actually, and 2) you can't believe "love transcends severance" with burt and irving and mark and gemma and then separate who helena is from helly. the central storyline of the show is not creating a clone of yourself who later wants their own agency, it's severing a part of yourself. innies and outties are not different people. that's why outtie mark was still pulled to petey in s1 and why innie mark still felt grief over gemma even when he didn't remember her. why innie irving was attracted to the art on the severed floor, as outtie irving is an artist, and why innie dylan came up with huge ideas about who he could be outside because outside he felt like a failure. whatever you like about helly, her kindness, smarts, humor, strong-headedness, feeling of entrapment are all a part of helena. they're the same qualities reacting with different external factors, and as reintegration is a part of the storyline, to a degree they are the same person
#this is why this whole story is so juicy because by betraying and severing himself as to not feel his grief over his wife#mark created a part of him who fell in love with the severed part of the woman who's presumely responsible for his wife's situation#and why the question around consent agency and bodily autonomy has hundreds of layers#markhelly#markhelena#mimi.txt#severance#helena eagan#helly r#helly r.

Nix Gottlieb is very much based on a real person. With the house Luiks interited there came a bunch of black and white photos. We started using these photos as blueprints for characters. All real people, all deceased by now. And one of them was a picture of a man with monk’s hair, glasses, and this strange, strange smile. This was a drinking buddy of Luiks' father. If you had to describe him in a sentence you would say ‘one horrible cunt.’ Absolute terrible fucking human being, but also a legend in this drinking circle back in the day.
This is a real story: there's a party that Luiks’ dad is at, and this guy ‘Nix’, he’s an actual doctor. Somebody at the party complains of a stomachache and Nix touches his stomach and diagnoses him with appendicitis. He literally takes him into a bedroom and operates. He cuts out his appendix and it turns out it’s close to the point where it’s going to explode, so it was very good that he intervened at the last moment. Two days later this person runs into Nix on the street and thanks him. And it turns out Nix was so drunk he has no memory of it. When he finally understands it’s not a prank, all the color drains out of his face, because what are the chances he didn’t kill the person by accident?
There was so much about this real person that was not an adaptation, we just put it into the game.

Sword II is coming along! My clay slabs aren't firm enough to start the next step but this is good progress. I don't know what to name it yet; suggestions welcome
#like a lot of what i make this sculpture does a lot of its talking through what ISN'T present#no opponent. no other weapon.#so then the question is: whose sword is that? is it his? was there someone else? was he unarmed or disarmed? is this self inflicted?#is he pulling the sword into himself or drawing it out#i like it when art gives you an emotional response without an answer

How did A-yuan celebrate Mother's Day with his honorary mother, Wei Wuxian?
He already has a (grand)mother to celebrate!
#poorly drawn mdzs#ask#mdzs#a-yuan#granny wen#Truly no fault on the question asker here - I am just not one who subscribes to WWX and LWJ being 'parental' figures to A-Yuan.#(Emphasis on *personally* here-) Personally I am more intrigued by the unique dynamics they have.#It's not defined by usual family dynamics and I think that was the point.#He's a kid who was raised by his grandmother (Or at least a granny-like figure) and a community where he was the only kid.#As I've said in the past - WWX is far more adjacent to a 'cool uncle' figure who helps babysit without the full responsibility.#LWJ was always poised as more of a mentor-figure than a parental figure. And those dynamics are really valuable for kids!#Plus - We don't talk about Granny Wen enough. I love Granny Wen. Happy belated mother's day to her!#As always - the ask is very much appreciated. You've sent a lot of great ones in the past B*)#Sorry for the date no longer being as relevant...Today can be grandmother's day. 3rd Thursday of May.

Jane and Bingley never have a recorded word between them?? I need to lie down…
Isn't that fascinating? I forget where I first learned this, but I did check and it is true. All their dialogue is described, either by Jane Bennet or the narrator.
There is a really interesting chapter of What Matters in Jane Austen by John Mullan where he lists all the characters who speak but are never quoted and it's somewhat shocking:
Captain Benwick, Persuasion Anne de Bourgh, Pride & Prejudice Georgiana Darcy, Pride & Prejudice Mr. Perry, Emma Robert Martin, Emma
The Captain Benwick one really blew me away because he seems to say so much! The Emma ones are fascinating because Mr. Perry is talked about all the time and his advice is discussed, but he's never even on page. He haunts the narrative as much as Mrs. Churchill. Robert Martin is never allowed to defend himself from Emma's slander by being quoted to the reader. We can only imagine him through her filtered opinion.

Reading comprehension site. As far as I understand it, your point is moreso that often stories set in a world without homophobia, transportation, etc. Are treated as morally better. Meanwhile stories which are parallel to real world queerness, identity, and oppression are often viewed negatively. Mostly because there's a standing idea of "you could have made it better by simply not including the homophobia and transphobia".
In my mind, both are morally equivalent, and both are examining themes which may be interesting in the context of queer experiences and liberation.
yeah that's exactly what I'm talking about... I'm basically just arguing against that more extreme mindset you sometimes see around queernorm stuff and pointing out that maybe it's not great to implicitly lump stuff like, say, steven universe, queer as folk, and i saw the tv glow together as the 'lesser' or "more harmful" type of work we should seek to avoid because they focus on queer struggles, or otherwise downplaying the value of themes that aren't like, escapist enough in some way.
Honestly I think at some point the discussion around depictions of homophobia- specifically, criticism aimed at the thought that (often quite fetishistic) homophobia (or sexism, racism, etc) needed to exist in fantasy for the sake of "historical realism", and of bury your gays-type stuff - sort of got telephone game'd into "it's weird to depict bigotry or gay characters suffering/dying when you could just not do that; no one wants to see that" and then in turn "the best, most valuable and desired way to depict queerness (race, disability, gender, etc) is to make it normal and as downplayed as possible" and i think it's worth pointing out that that's often not great advice/a good metric for judging queer fiction overall.
#if this was about disability or something#like i was arguing against writing advice claiming that there was something inherently better and more woke and representational#in. say. a world where aids are so good that deafness functionally doesn't exist and there is no need for sign language or deaf culture#and I was going 'hey i think this is kind of a weird way to talk about this. that's pretty alienating for many people#especially if the work in question isn't thematically concerned with it at all'#surely the response should not be 'well many deaf people wish that was real! why don't you think deaf people should have escapism?'#'so you think it's bad to depict fantasy disability aids?'#like no. im so obviously aiming at the moral angle of it and the way the most erasing form of it is being bigged up as the best one#the implication that a fantasy story where deaf culture exists is a less good work of fiction

I've had a beast of a cold for the last few days, but I wanted to get this out before the new year! while I've sort of made my peace with my first take on Lilia's UM poster, I really wanted to do a version with the new context that chapter 6 gave us. because. c'mon.
(don't worry, Lilia can carry ALL HIS KIDS AT ONCE)
#art#twisted wonderland#unique magic posters#twisted wonderland spoilers#twisted wonderland episode 7 part 6 spoilers#twisted wonderland book 7 spoilers#twisted wonderland book 7 part 6 spoilers#the dragon cradle does make me laugh#no look i understand it's a ~visual metaphor~ for malleus' isolation#(and also lets lilia run up a bunch of steps all dramatically later)#but the image of this enormous ten-story cradle with the teeny tiny little egg in the middle of it is pretty hilarious#the draconias are SO extra about everything#now if you'll excuse me i have to go fall over for what remains of the year#happy 2024!#(i apologize to the poor person who asked a cute question about meleanor and got a giant cold medicine-induced essay in response :')#(i have been incapable of coherent thought for...a while now)

I find the fact that the confrontation at the end of UTRH is often summarized as Jason asking Bruce to kill the Joker for him fascinating.
Because that's not what happened.
Jason holds a gun up to Joker's head, gives Bruce another, and tells him that if Bruce doesn't do something (shoot Jason), he will kill Joker.
Jason doesn't give the gun to Bruce so that he would shoot Joker. He isn't expecting Bruce to pull the trigger on the clown. He's asking Bruce to do nothing. To be inactive. Because that will still be a choice, and despite having done nothing, everybody clearly agrees that Bruce would still, at least in part, be responsible for Joker's death.
...And to me, this moment is a kind of- microcosm, of the rest of Jason's point. Because after being captured and carted off to Arkham, the villain will escape again, and will kill more people. The only way to truly prevent that from happening would be to kill them; Bruce refuses to do so, and I respect his right to choose such a thing for himself, but it is still a choice, and if we agree that Bruce's inaction during the confrontation would leave him at least partly responsible for the Joker's death, then we must also agree that his inaction in permanently preventing the Rogues from killing more people means he is also, partly, responsible for all of those deaths.
#my dc posting#batman#dc#bruce wayne#jason todd#joker#uhh is this like analysis or meta#anyway. to me this is the message that scene sends#if we say bruce doing nothing would mean he assisted in the murder of joker then bruce doing nothing about the villains means he is also#responsible for those deaths#ANYWAY yes b4 you come at me;;#bruce's belief in rehabilitation and that everyone can get better is central to his character#and i love it and no i dont actually think he should kill the rogues or whatever#but the question there is. Are you fine with the future victims your decisions will cause?#Are their lives worth the slim chance any of these people will get better?#batman says yes theyre worth it. red hood says no theyre not.#thats the fundamental moral difference there#its why jason challenges the batman status quo#which is why he cant be harnessed well after his initial return bc comics can never truly escape that status quo#anyway i sure am having some thoughts for someone not that smart so if you disagree please tell me!!! just be civil or ill just block you <#...anyway this is another thing BTAS succeeds in bc i always feel like yes these villains do deserve yet another chance#despite what theyve done. bruce's belief in them doesnt feel stupid and naive#its abt what you yourself can live with. bruce can live w the deaths of the ppl the criminals he doesnt get rid of kill#and jason can live with killing those criminals and preventing further victims

I hope you dont mind but, you're very good at drawing two people blending together, do you have any advice or tips for drawing something as simple as hugs?
use references!!! and when you draw figures interacting closely, some (or lots) of the body will get covered up by the other, but i think it really helps with posing to draw the complete figure. being able to see the whole form helps u gauge the 3d space the body occupies and how it should rest on/push/pull/interact with other objects

and from a composition standpoint, i think being able to break up each element and see its whole shape makes it easier to decide what to stylize or keep, and where it's OK to bend or break anatomy haha

#ASK EVER#my brain is so smooth rn im sorry if this is not very helpful. i think i said DRAW THROUGH in response to five different asks#but its always true and always helpful i think. whether its hugging or pretzeling#being conscious of space can really inspire poses!! i think anyway#the jayvik is just for my personal entertainment... sorry#ever art questions

hi heres art so you pay attention to me now go read the tags
#ive been rewatching episode 7 like its the only thing on youtube and made note of many things#first off. the solver can only have one host. nori mentions skyn wants to kill off all the other solver hosts (with the dds) and disregards#the idea of both uzi and doll being its current host when they get chased#plus the main solver possessions only occur when skyn is out of the picture (the fightt in ep 7 is only after n decapitates “tessa”)#solver uzi is possible too but i dont count her cause she doesn't have the yellow#personal theory is that its more an instinctual response to overheating or something and not full on possession#second off nori calls the solver cyn. how does she know that name#cyn was on earth and only showed up to copper 9 recently and i presume nori's been here her whole life#it probably wasn't the other dds cause none of them made it down and they're all more savage beasts#since cyn specifies n's team retained their personalities and that makes me think the other teams didnt#also also we should've immediately questioned tessa arriving in the same type of pod as the mds when they were revealed to not be sent by j#im running out of characters also the people who dont like when i use tags like this can bite me#murder drones#murder drones nori#artori? that sounds cool#ill probably just stick with nori though#i have so many solver heart refs now#art#episode 7#murder drones episode 7#murder drones episode 7 spoilers#using the same black for shadows as my lineart doesn't work when i have to draw thin things over it#murder drones spoilers
