A long time ago, my dear mutual @Reverdies {an amazing writer} sent me a general question about shipping and as I’ve a lot of asks that span the gamut from platonic to romantic, and some new friends {{hi! new friends}}... I thought I’d clean it up and repost it. ~*~ As the custodian of several blogs, not to mention an infinity amount of discord channels, I find shipping in all its forms to be interesting: Romantically, platonically, spiritually, ecumenically, grammatically... I. The first thing I absolutely look for in any writing is chemistry with the other mun. Shipping is a delicate thing regardless of the nature, whether it’s making friends or choosing the right person to be your eternal nemesis, and everything in between. For me, I have to trust the person on the other end with complicated emotions. Even if you’re ‘faking it’ in fiction, there’s so many things you’re taking on faith that the other person understands. Therefore, if I feel like I can’t talk to / laugh with / share my own thoughts and feelings with the person on the other side of the screen... well, I’m certainly not going to engage my muses with theirs, either. II. The second thing I look for is chemistry with muses. Some of my muses {{and I certainly am not looking hard at Beth}} are much friendlier, if not more charismatic than others {{Riley, Quothe, Lugh}}. But I also believe that you can’t *make* anyone love you, or love your muses, just by telling them they will. {{Experiment concluded in depth.}} I will say though that I don’t mind writing crushes/squishes, I do not mind one-sided relationships, and honestly a couple of my favourite stories happen to have a muse who is absolutely in love with someone that doesn’t exactly share those feelings, and it’s STILL okay.  III. The third thing I’m not always capable of pulling off but love as a general concept is...the Slow Burn.  Some of my muses are mentally/emotionally scarred. Others are on the demi-ace end of the sexuality spectrum, or they may have other relationship challenges. Sometimes they don’t even realise when a platonic relationship has a strayed into the romantic, sometimes they don’t want to realise this has happened. I know for a fact that one wouldn’t notice they were in the ocean if a shark swam up, bit them on the behind, then handed them a very soggy explanatory pamphlet about how the ship has sailed and in fact the muses have been married for fifteen years already. I’m really very sorry about that, mun who knows exactly who you and your muse are.

IV. Generally though.. {aka: TL;DR} I am pretty much open to most kinds of situations, and am willing to work with my writing partner to decide how to handle things on a case-by-case basis. Got an idea for pre-established relationship? Great! Please share it with me. Slow Burn? Bring it on. Is it all just one giant dream-sequence production in seven acts with musical interludes? Other gods/demigods/godlike beings. Layla’s not fast to trust them, even less so in some verses than others - American Gods is one verse where she actively tries to avoid anyone not related to her or a known ally.

Uh... If I’m remembering correctly, that would be the talking black cat named Mystic that I used to roleplay within Ayenee chatrooms. Given a lack of a proper dossier at the time, few people figured out that she had ties with Terry Pratchett’s Discworld, as she had been a stray that lived too close to the Unseen University, thus gaining her abilities of speech.

Here on tumblr, just the four I have now. 

Elsewhere? Probably 10 or so, though they were dedicated to a single muse since multimuses didn’t precisely work on those platforms. I used to write several characters from the Discworld (Susan Sto Helit, the Death of Rats, Quoth the Raven, and Twoflower), as well as Dr. Peter Venkman from The Real Ghostbusters (ie the cartoon, mostly early seasons when Peter was still voiced by Lorenzo Music), and Death, Dream, and Delirium/Delight from The Sandman comics, plus a couple of original characters that I barely remember anything about other than one being for Knight Rider.

Luka for all his...forward thinking--in the way of being able to change his personal beliefs with the times and in some cases making personal beliefs over topics not previously known at the time----his speech has change very little if at all. 

When speaking English his sentence structure is still “old school”. He learned English a really fucking long time ago, and as it evolved and changed he was forced to adapt. Which given how old he is one would think he’d ya know...have it done. But there’s one slight hiccup. He didn’t pick up ‘proper’ English on purpose. He’s old which means his memory is long. And yes he still has a chip on his shoulder over what happened to his homeland. [tho pls see this hc and hc before you start slinging the r word]

All of that said.

Luka also has one thing working against him. He’s got a bit of a speech impediment. And to be honest pretty sure a lot of people would if they were used to their mouths being bigger...longer...full of more teeth...you get the idea. So with that in mind the poor fuck does have a speech problem. He literally can not say the ‘th’ sound. So it is most often replaced with the ‘d’ sound. Like for example ‘The brown cow’ becomes ‘D’brown cow.’ or ‘Something’ becomes ‘Somed’in’” or ‘things/this’ becomes ‘d’ings/d’is.’. Another sound he can literally not say is the ‘qu’ sound. So ‘quick’ becomes ‘k’ick’ or ‘quote’ becomes ‘k’ote’. (or if your name happens to be Quothe -looking at u miss raven thang- it literally comes out ‘Coat’ or ‘Code’ depending on how much effort he’s putting into it and there’s the real reason he calls the giant ass raven ‘Bird’.)

when i started rp’ing luka i didnt quite have his speech down. i’ve clearly got a handle on it now. and i am VERY aware that his way of speaking English is stage Irish. It’s slightly exaggerated. And its slightly exaggerated because this is fucking literature and i can’t set him in front of you to speak every line of dialogue i write, in order for the accent to carry the way i intend for you to hear it. yes i am aware that it is not the way ancient Irish specifically spoke or for that matter how the modern Irish people speak now.  but again this is written word and no i will not be changing it.**

Types of RP / How I do threads

* So here’s the deal. I have a muse, three people who rent her space, and a cast of dozens of npcs. I usually do most of my writing on Thurs Night through Monday Night, though I might be around Tues, Wed. Sometimes I am on Riley, sometimes Lugh, sometimes Quothe. Mostly I’m on Beth and one of the others. She���s the easiest for me to write.  I do asks, I do threads. Mostly they are multi-para or novella because try and shut me the fuck up, I dare you. Sorry, kids. I can do rp in discord but often I don’t consider those “canon” unless discussed with the other mun. Sometimes I might write up a ficlet from discord rp and post it on the appropriate blog.

Sometimes I will do shorter bits while writing on my novellas. I am currently something like three months deep into a post for one of my mutuals {waves at them and their salt kingdom}.  I do my best to give you quality, and I appreciate that being reciprocated. QUANTITY does not equal quality. If one cannot tell the difference, then it’s probably a sign we will not get along.

Plotting Preferences

It takes her a while to first, connect with someone and feel anything other than friendship. She might never move beyond that. But pushing her ic or ooc, pushing ME ic or ooc, that won’t do you well. I am willing to discuss and have pre-established relationships. Of All Kinds. I do base ships off Chemistry, not only just the muses. **I** have to feel chemistry and friendship with the other mun or it ain’t gonna happen, no matter HOW pretty your muse is or how popular they are.

* I am not shy about smut, I am an adult who has been married for a very long time, and I know where all the parts go. And maybe a middle or an end. I do not feel every single time has to be written, and really at some point it becomes boring. I like writing things getting interrupted. I like writing things that fail to meet the goal, so to speak. I like the first excitement, or a long sought reunion, and things like that. I like to mix the emotional and the spiritual with the physical. I might flashback or go into great detail about what she’s thinking and feeling and gloss over the individual actions. It depends on the scene, the partner, the story. If you’re looking for Tab A goes into Slot B, shake-rattle-and-roll ad nauseam, then I am not the partner you want. And uhm, probably no one I know is, either.
