Medal Monday

So-called for being the traditional day to show off any medals you have earned over the weekend. 

I haven’t earned any this weekend. 

Instead, for one day only, I will show off the medals I have earned thus far. My collection is slowly growing, and I will be adding more and more as the year progresses (what with doing the Six Wives of Henry VIII challenge as previously mentioned).

The photo of my medals below is arranged in date order, oldest (left) to newest (right).

Forest Of Light - my first race in September 2019 and completed with a friend. Held in a forest (of course) at night so there were lots of cool lighting throughout. The route was 3k and you could run it as many times as you wanted within the given time. At that point, I hadn’t run much over 5k, so I did the route twice. 

Feast Mode - 5k race with a friend on Thanksgiving, November 2019. This was held in San Francisco. Actually, it was held in Oakland, just across the Bay Bridge from SF. It was was good, but unfortunately my friend and I had hit the city shopping the day before which meant my legs felt like lead for the entire thing.  

Winter Run 2021 - a year later than planned due to my unplanned ankle fracture in January 2020 (more about that another time). My first 10k on Sunday 7th February. This would normally be the London Winter Run which went virtual for this year. Also my first fundraising race. The weather was terrible.

99 Miles of Dismissal - Catherine of Aragon, the first of the 6 Wives of Henry VIII challenge. Obviously virtual, and spread over a number of weeks which could be completed by running and/or walking. I started it in mid-January, opted for the maximum 8 weeks, and bossed it in 7.

13th Half Marathon in the books for the 1st ever Bay Bridge Half Marathon! I’ve came to the realization that after taking a year off from my injury, I’m definitely not as quick as I was before it happened. I’m not even close to my PR, & I feel more exhausted post-race than usual. But one of the reasons why I have so much respect for endurance runners is because they don’t know how to quit. The word “quit” is definitely not in our vocabulary. We keep moving forward. A little late on the #medalmonday post, but here’s to running 14 half-marathons thus far. Didn’t beat my PR by 15 minutes, but I did by 11 minutes lol. Since my injury & taking a year off, I’ve added almost 30 minutes to my time. But slowly and surely, I’m shaving more minutes off with every run & race, hoping to get back to my normal PR pre-injury. Definitely interested in running this full marathon next year!
