The Maniraptoran Alphabet (Part 4)
Part 4 of my dinosaur alphabet! I'll admit Yi qi for Q is the most questionable of the letters, given that it's the only one picked for species name rather than genus name. Unfortunately, though, the only genera I could find that fit my requirements (maniraptorans extinct before the Eocene) were things described in only 1 or 2 papers and had no pre-existing restorations to reference, so I would've had to make restorations for them whole cloth, and I just didn't have the time for that on this project (though maybe I will some other time?). So Yi qi was moved from Y to Q and I picked a different species for Y. (The other thing I was considering was throwing Quetzalcoatlus in there as a curveball, since it's not even a dinosaur muchtheless a maniraptoran, but that probably would have been a joke only for me.)

This is my rock child, some kind of indeterminate, long winged paravian. Maybe Rahonavis or a small troodontid? Idk
but I love it anyways

Dinofact #24
Rahonavis, a small, bird-like dinosaur approximately the size of a raven, was discovered in the Maevarano formation in Madagascar in 1995. Most formations in the area are covered in dense vegetation, which makes it hard to excavate and identify fossils. However, a portion of a hillside in the formation was cleared by a fire, which exposed the remains of a titanosaur. The following expedition in the area lead to the discovery of Rahonavis.

Today's dinosaur is Rahonavis, a late Cretaceous Paravian, hypothesized to be capable of powered flight

hey who let dinosaurs do that
per hartman et al, 2019:
eumaniraptora - deinonychosauria -- archaeopterygidae & anchiornithinae (165-122 mya) -- dromaeosauridae --- unenlagiinae ---- rahonavis ostrami (70 mya) --- microraptorinae (125-76.5 mya) - avialae -- scansoriopterygidae (165-156 mya) -- avebrevicauda (136 mya - present)
possible fliers in bold. archaeopteryx (flew with feathered wings) rahonavis (flew with feathered wings) microraptor (flew with *four* feathered wings) scansoriopteryx (flew with membrane wings w/ some feathers) modern birds and their relatives (fly with feathered wings)

Time for a quick big-brain thought

I know that I’ve made an entire hypothetical scenario for how a third PHP season would go last year, along with how the series itself hasn’t mentioned in any major announcements as of late, but what if this hypothetical third season had a major theme with its episodes?
As in, instead of using habitats as the themes, why not go with entire locales instead? Maybe this could be the show going back to some of its most famous settings before closing things out, but I feel like having future episodes focus on an entire location instead of a single biome in general could be an interesting way to deal with running out of compatible habitats. Hell, it could be a good way to not only introduce new species, but also bring back certain animals from past episodes. I know this is a little bit far fetched, but hear me out.
Nemegt (Basically the Nemegt Formation and the surrounding area)
Old Species- Tarbosaurus, Mononykus, Deinocheirus, Tarchia, Prenocephale, Barsboldia
New Species- Gallimimus, Udanoceratops, Saurolophus, Conchoraptor, Adasaurus, Brodavis
Patagonia (The southern part of South America, with places like the Allen, La Colonia, and Cerro Fortaleza Formations being found there. Areas like Chile could also fit)
Old Species- Carnotaurus, Dreadnoughtus, Austroraptor, Secernosaurus, Mortuneria (if we wanna continue with the idea of them being South American residents)
New Species- Maip, Stegouros, Aerotitan, Gondwanatherium, Sektensaurus, Noasaurus
Madagascar (Basically what it says on the tin)
Old Species- Majungasaurus, Rapetosaurus, Beelzebufo, Simosuchus, Adalatherium, Masiakasaurus, Madtsoia
New Species- Facatakely, Mahajangasuchus, Sahonachelys, Rahonavis, Vintana
Tethys (The European archipelago and surrounding sea, with places like Hateg Island, France, and even a small bit of Morocco being examples)
Old Species- Hatzegopteryx, Zalmoxes, Mosasaurus, Telmatosaurus, Barbaridactylus, Diplomoceras
New Species- Squalicorax, Ampelosaurus, Ocepechelon, Gavialimimus, Gargantuavis, Rhabdodon
Laramidia (Yes, I am aware that this could be like “North America” again, but with place like Hell Creek, Prince Creek, Ojo Alamo, and even parts of the inland sea that was still present at the time, there’s plenty of material to work with, even moreso than NA)
Old Species- T. Rex, Triceratops, Quetzalcoatlus, Alamosaurus, Edmontosaurus, Pachycephalosaurus, Pectinidon, Pachyrhinosaurus, Nanuqsaurus, Prognathodon, Hesperornis, Xiphactinus
New Species- Ankylosaurus, Anzu, Habrosaurus, Lonchidion, Thescelosaurus, Borealosuchus, Basilemys, Didelphodon, Bravoceratops, Bonnerichthys, Hydrotherosaurus
Is this a rather odd and ridiculous idea for a third PHP season that might not happen? Yes, yes it is. But, like with my of my other ideas and projects on here, it’s one that I wanna share to get input on.

I heard somewhere that dinosaurs took to the air seven times. You seeming knowlegable about them. I know of birds, microraptors and scansoriopterygidae, and was wondering if you knew more. I am not used with Tumblr etiquette, feel free to disregared this post if I should have sent it.
While I don't know about seven times specifically, there's also Rahonavis, an unenlagiid maniraptoran which appears to also have evolved flight! Also, the position of Anchiornis isn't fully ascertained, so that's another possible flight event, although it's likely to be pretty close to avialans (if not an avialan itself).
For scansorios, it's not certain that they had the capacity for powered flight (they were more likely gliders), but it can't be ruled out either and that would be awesome!
Another pretty wild hypothesis I heard of (which most likely isn't true unfortunately) is that maniraptorans were originally flighted, with the non-flighted guys like Velociraptor being secondarily flightless!

Some Dancing Dino
Just a warmup Doodle - but I'm pretty happy to draw Dinosaurs again (technically these should be rahonavis). I kinda struggled with Dinos for a bit because of the anatomy but I think these boys look pretty funky
