✦ i actually talk about something other than DRDT for once (minor detail analysis)
// spoilers for up to chapter 4 of MDA:RC

you know the drill. (rain code edition) and yes, i’m actually in other fandoms. i have way too many hyperfixtations. lord help me.
basically, there was a small detail i noticed about a specific character’s mystery phantom in the chapter 4 labyrinth, so i just wanted to point that out and make connections as to what it could possibly mean.
let’s get straight to it! ^^
yes, this is about yomi’s mystery phantom. but likely not in the way that you’d think.
of course, i love the fact that yomi’s mystery phantom form doesn’t have any colorful accents like the others, and i could honestly talk for hours about that aspect—but this post is actually about a separate detail.
just what in hell is going on with yomi’s hair?

yep, that’s what i’m going to talk about. and i’m not flaming him for this wild hairstyle, trust me.
when you look at it, the mystery phantom’s hairstyle is divided into three separate parts:
the left(?) portion of his hair, which is on the messier side and pointing in all directions
the middle portion, which is the most similar to yomi’s actual hairstyle (checked his sprite for reference)
and the rightmost portion, which looks like someone used a straightening iron on it.
in a way, he almost doesn’t look like yomi. all other mystery phantoms have at least partial semblance to their real-life counterparts—especially with their eye-shape and the general flow of their hair—but in the case of this specific mystery phantom, there wasn’t a lot.
though, that isn’t too important, right? it’s just a unique part of his mystery phantom design so i shouldn’t think too hard into it, surely it can’t be anything more than tha—

huh

wait, if this is what i think it is-

…oh.
what’s unique about this moment is that yakou’s apparition(?) appears as if to directly replace yomi’s mystery phantom. which doesn’t happen anywhere else.
which means, there’s a possibility that this cutscene was intentionally created to show that “yomi’s” mystery phantom was a front for the true culprit. (the truth was right in front of yuma all this time, but disguised under a facade. yuma just couldn’t get himself to face it head-on until the very end) there’s a multitude of theories i can come up with about why they decided to show this, but unfortunately that’s not what i’m here to talk about. though, if you don’t mind, here’s a side tangent: my main theory is that yakou felt horrible about essentially using the detectives in his crime and couldn’t face the rest of the NDA after what he did; the only way he could directly argue against their deductions was to act as someone else. after his true identity was exposed he had nothing more to say to them, other than a non-verbal expression of the regret he carried behind his back) okay side tangent over
my point is—if the theory of “yakou hid behind the guise of yomi’s mystery phantom” is true, it provides an explanation for the mystery phantom’s hair style.
after all, the two other “parts” of his hair i described earlier are quite similar to the hairstyles of two other characters.

…yeah. yakou and his wife. it’s not an exact replica of their hairstyles, but the general flow and concept is there.
in a way, this subtle detail is a nod to yakou’s true motive behind murdering huesca—to protect his wife / avenge his wife’s death. but yakou didn’t want to reveal this and hid it all the way through to the end, even going as far as obscuring his face on the photo with his blood so others couldn’t identify it, and hiding behind the guise of yomi’s mystery phantom in the labyrinth.
despite this “facade,” however—yakou’s true motives behind the crime are still visible. they’re just not up front and center until someone points them out.
god, chapter 4 has reshaped my mental process in ways i can’t describe. there’s so much i still want to talk about with “yomi’s” mystery phantom design (like how the part of the hairstyle that resembles yakou is on the mystery phantom’s “demon(?)-like” half and how the part that resembles his wife is on the “angelic” half), but that will have to wait until later.
for now, take this with a grain of salt ^^

Spoilers for Rain Code.
I can't help but wonder what relation, if at all, [Zilch] has to do with the Metal Fox Church.
Of course like anyone else, I noticed the obvious similarity between [Zilch] and the Nun's animal ear hats.
Wow Komatsuzaki must've been really feeling the furry design element enough to use for two different characters.
Not to mention, he has a similar black, red, and white color scheme as the church officials.
Now, the animal ears could just be for him to disguise himself as "the animal themed guy", but if so he certainly didn't take into account that an animal advocate probably wouldn't wear real fur and leather, so I'm leaning on the impression that (besides the detective uniform underneath his coat) he's not completely disguising himself as Zilch and this is his regular outfit for the most part. It's not like he needs to try very hard to disguise himself considering no one on that train has ever seen each other before, so a WDO uniform and fake Master Detective deed will do just fine.
Aphex even describes him as a "fox detective". So at the very least, we know that the in-game characters think that the ears on his hat look fox-like rather than just some other critter.
But even beyond that, the Nun with which he shares his animal ear look with makes some interesting comments.
Her dad works as a higher-up at Amaterasu. And she is very liberal with leveraging him as a threat towards people who annoy her.
It's no exception when she, for some reason, acts defensive at Yuma's reaction to her mentioning a hitman, saying that if he has a problem then it should be taken up with her Papa. Perhaps said Papa has some sort of certain opinion or insight about hitmen.
Not only do we know [Zilch] as a hitman hired by Yomi to kill any Master Detective trying to enter Kanai Ward at the beginning of the story, we later find out from [Zilch]'s own mouth that he used to be Yomi's close advisor within the Peacekeepers and handled most of the murder work, which included shooting dissenters on sight.
Now, there are some questionable points of this theory. He doesn't particularly come off as someone who's a dad, or even old enough to be one, but it's not like we can know his age for sure just from looking at him. He doesn't even remotely have any similar physical features as the Nun either, but hey it's possible to more heavily take after one parent.
The people we see associated with the church exclusively have red face markings, while [Zilch]'s are blue.
And lastly, while the logos on their outfits are similarly styled, his is obviously not a fox.
However, the dog could just be his own personal outfit logo that some of the Peacekeepers tend to have, like Seth's wolf and Swank's yen sign.
Regardless, if any of this does happen to connect this way, that would mean that the Nun seems to have no idea that her father is dead during the course of the game. It would be awfully sad, but I wouldn't put it past the Peacekeepers to keep her in the dark.
Or it doesn't connect at all and I'm just having fun pinning red strings to a bunch of coincidences. :^)

I’m just going say it although the book of death/Shinigami’s powers is cool also the big idea of the gameplay;in a way is kinda useless mostly on the fact the culprit dies,i mean HOW ARE YOU GONNA GET A CLEAR TRUTH WITHOUT A CLEAR CONFESSION!!!,also it just made it worse now that there now a person mysteriously dies out of nowhere, but they managed to put it in storyline sooooooo
Yeah something to think about
I think maybe it has to do with since Shinigami is the God of Death, her power is going to have a connection over on death. But you bring up a good point that it isn’t exactly useful considering it makes exposing the criminals harder.
Until I remember in Chapter 0 after the first Mystery Labyrinth from a YouTube gameplay I watched, where Shinigami comments how Yuma is now free since the culprit is dead, which the YouTuber comments that wasn’t going to work because Zilch was meant to be dead from the start and they only ended up reaffirming that narrative the Peacekeepers were painting to begin with. And I was thinking to myself, ‘didn’t they already figured out that the Peacekeepers were in on the plan in the Mystery Labyrinth? So why did she think the Peacekeepers would let him go if they were planning to frame him anyway?’ And that led me to think really hard about this.
We know Shinigami has the flaws of lacking empathy and not understanding humans at times, since she is an immortal god. I think in her mind, since the culprit is gone, there would be no reason for the Peacekeepers to keep framing him. Plus, again thinking into Shinigami’s mind, I think she believed since the culprit was a murderer would mean they would probably kill more people in the future, so the real goal was to stop a growing threat from claiming more victims like before.
And the killing thing? I think it’s a way to deal the justice in the holder’s own hands, to off the culprits so they don’t keep harming people from the mysteries they made, or claiming anymore victims from their deeds. In Chapter 1, one of the culprit was a serial killer, who would have gone off to kill more people. And the other culprit could have technically become a serial killer himself since he admired the Nail Man so much. Plus, an innocent man was going to get framed and executed for the Nail Man’s crimes to keep up appearances, and seeing how the Priest was going along with the lie, basically implied he was okay letting an actual, innocent man die in his place. Then in Chapter 2, Kurumi gets framed for the crime, and since execution seems to be a thing, she could have been executed herself, all so the Peacekeepers can keep their lies and appearance in place.
Plus, we have seen that the Peacekeepers don’t necessarily care about justice unless it serves them (or the higher-ups like Yomi in this case). They are willing to cover up the mysteries to convenient themselves and get what they want. And considering they are the police force, therefore the handlers of justice in Kanai Ward, they are the only ones in power that can lock away the criminals in hand and bring justice. But because they are so corrupt and self-indulgent, they are more willing to let criminals go or turn a blind eye or fail to solve the case thoroughly. So the Book of Death is the only way to ensure not only are the criminals are properly dealt with, but also cut away the Mystery Labyrinths as well. Since Shinigami has noted that if the Mystery Labyrinth grew and remain, they would influence other people into becoming murderers or criminals that would create more Mystery Labyrinths as well. As it was theorized by Yakool-Foolio that Kanai Ward’s Ultimate Secret’s own Mystery Labyrinth is what most likely led to the city becoming more crime-filled and creating their own Mystery Labyrinths as well.
It’s also important to note that there are other corrupt officials out in the world like the Unified Government who wants to keep their own secrets hidden away to keep up appearances. So it wouldn’t be far-fetched if there were other corrupt forces like the Unified Government and the Peacekeepers who would keep things secrets for their own benefits. Plus, we learned in chapter five that Number One of the World Detective Organization that he is actually in charge of issuing criminals to be sent to the death penalties, as noted here by Shiut, so I think executions and death penalties are uncommon in the Master Detective Archives world. So it wouldn’t be such a big deal for criminals to just die, even if it is inhumane and cruel.
In conclusion, I think the Book of Death is really a tool used in order to bring about the end of the criminals that threatens peace for everybody and could potentially hurt people (people getting framed, the killers killing future victims, exploiting people, etc). Since there is the chance of corrupt police forces not willing to indulge justice as they should and will let the mysteries remain and therefore the criminals free, the Book of Death is a mean to make sure the criminals and mysteries are gone. It’s a morally grey story where it may not be morally right, but it is not morally wrong either with the circumstances at hand. I think that’s what the Book of Death’s intention are, and why Shinigami thinks the way she thinks.

What do you meant during the war in the misfit au
Did Yuma parents go out because their from the military or was because they had to go and get something they needed?(to survive)
Were they caught in the crossfire or struggle with the effects during the war?
Mmmmm what I’m saying makes sense?
Idk examples are coming from studio Ghibli movies, you know the famous howl’s moving castle and grave of the fireflies
Or I’m overthinking and the parents are soldiers going to war but didn’t make it and Yuma was informed about it
Something I theorize in Master Detective Archives is that I believe Yuma/Number One may have been a victim of a war from wherever he lived in the world when he was a kid, and that past may have shaped him to be who he is now currently. So I want to incorporate something like that in the AU.
When I mean war, I mean like a war between the Outskirts of Kanai Ward (an outer region around Kanai Ward like the Restricted Area) and another party (I’m not entirely sure, like the Peacekeepers similar to the beginning of that tv show Arcane with the rebellion of the Undercity versus Enforcers). Yuma’s parents are caught in the crossfire and were one of the casualties, and the rest of the survivors of the Outskirts were unable to take him in for a variety of reasons. So that leaves Yuma to be taken in by Amaterasu into their Orphanage, and it is where his life begins to turn more.

This post contains spoilers for the final Chapter of Raincode.
This is my idea for what Yuma looked like pre-canon. It is based on my headcanons for him and his backstory.

Now Yumas age during the game isn’t really revealed to us. But since the game really pushes both Kurumi (who I’m assuming is at least 18 since she’s in her final year) and Shinigami as love interests, I’m choosing to believe he’s 18~19. Because if he’s not, either he or Shinigami has to be a creep interested in teenagers. (Personally I’m not all that big of a fan of either ship but that’s irrelevant).
Now Homunculi stop aging once they’ve reached maturity, so Makoto can be the exact same age as Yuma (physically I mean). He was created 3 years before canon, so if he was created when Yuma was let’s say 15, they would both have grown into 18 year olds during the games events.
All this to explain that I suspect Yuma was a child when he started his career at the WDO. As I mentioned he’s probably not older than 20 (I think). But I think him joining the WDO, finishing his training, being a detective AND actually being number one in only 2 years time would be a little too crazy.
My theory is that he developed his forte at a young age (between like 8-10) and the WDO heard about that and took interest. Something like Yuma meeting a master detective and accidentally copying his forte, said detective then informing the WDO. We know that the Unified government has authority over the WDO and since they cloned him, they clearly have an interest in number one.
No information about number one can be known by the rest of the world, so they either paid off Yumas family or he never had any to begin with (they also could have killed his family but I think this is unlikely). I’m leaning more towards the orphan idea, since that would be most convenient story wise. Also, post-canon him doesn’t seem to make any moves to meet his family (tbf we only see him for a bit then but it’s all I’ve got).
This would make him the ideal number one for the WDO, he would already have a forte and it would be easy to make him disappear from people’s lives. If he then also demonstrates a superior level of intelligence he would literally make the perfect number one.
Granted, these things don’t have to all be correct for him be number one. This is just my theory for the how and why he did become number one. And this is the theory that is present in my work that has either pre or post-canon Yuma (none of which I’ve finished, my bad).
Now for my actual designs
I don’t want to ramble much longer so I’ll keep it short.
- For tiny Yuma, I liked the idea of Yuma having Marie-Antoinette-syndrome (alopecia areata diffuse). This is a condition that turns the hair gray prematurely. Now it is often assumed that stress plays a role in the condition. So I thought the changing of Yumas hair color throughout his career would be a good story telling tool to demonstrate how this job has psychologically aged him. It could also physically demonstrate the stress of the job and in a way explain the mental state that caused him to fail to stop the actions that led to what happened to Kanai Ward.
-Number one, he got his outfit from the fake number one excluding the sunglasses and that yellow shawl. I based his hair off of that of Izuru Kamakura. It is also meant to accentuate his blindness to everything that lead to the situation in Kanai Ward. The idea is also that when disguising himself as a trainee, he cut off his hair and, along with his resignation, cut off his responsibilities as number one.
#Sorry this is so long#I just have so many thoughts#This guy lives rent free in my head#if you have a different theory regarding his age I would love to hear it#I am very open to discussion on this#yuma kokohead#rain code#raincode#mdarc fanart#master detective archives: rain code

Dats it, Kodaka! I'm calling you out! I know you're a yokai watch fan! The evidence is clear!
First in danganronpa V3:

Granted, that was back when Yokai watch was still a hot topic, so you slipped passed suspicion at the time...
Then in raincode, the mascot was this!

Shinigami is so obviously inspired by Whisper not only in design, but having the exact same kind of physical comedy of warping her body and pulling objects from thin air! As well as being a ghost servant to a human boy that almost no one else can see.
Again this is circumstantial... UNTIL TODAY!

FUCKING.
GHOST BUTLER!
I'm onto you now, you Slippery bitch!
(For real I love this guy's games and am definitely excited for Last Defense academy and how exactly Kodaka manages to rip my heart out my chest this time)

Headcanon/Observation: Seth is Religious
Heyy so I saw someone being confused about this so Im gonna make a tumblr post about it now, basically based off things you see in the game, mostly the imagery shared by Seth and the church, you can make the interpretation that Seth is religious
For one, the church follows the Metal Fox religion (as stated in a loading screen), and you can see the church uses the fox not only in name but as a symbol as they have fox statues in their front yard. This is interesting because Seth shares this symbol, having a fox on the back of his poncho.
And while this sure is something, theres even more ties to be made between Seth and the church and its religion.
Seth has alooot of eye imagery between his regular and mystery phantom forms. He has an eye on the top of his hood, and in his phantom form its both on his front and back AND a necklace of the eye symbol
I found this perplexing for the longest time because there is eye imagery in the game but in every case I could think of its used in relation to the detectives, with the exception being Shinigami and her book of death but she is a mystery centred death god and has ties to detectives through our protagonist, as opposed to Seth who sure is an investigator but still not a detective and was very much on the enemy side and doesn't have a personal tie to detectives either
However you look at the church more closely and what do you see? Eye imagery, specifically in the windows and iron gates
This makes Seths ties to eye imagery make infinitely more sense if you are to assume hes religious, plus the fact his phantom form is wearing a necklace of it is reminiscent of Christians who might wear crosses
Now, for some additional notable mentions which I feel are less solid but have some basis and help strengthen my argument:
This dialogue could be interpreted that Seth has some sort of faith, an agnostic or athiestic person probably wouldn't defend someone on the basis of their religious status. However this could also be interpreted as some last ditch or desperate effort to defend the priest, as per his motives and also his role as a mystery phantom.
Another thing would be the fact all members of the church have tattoos/markings, usually tied to their eyes. Seth also happens to have one himself
however this could be a stretch as many characters in the game have face markings/tattoos, and Seths is green as opposed to the red sported by the church's members.
Also, Seth's profile mentions he likes 'Wind instruments',
I am not familiar with church or religious music so I can't say much, but from what I gather they play some part in church music? And the one most associated with churches, the organ, is a wind instrument.
And now, the biggest leap of all: He wears a monocle, which btw is completely unique to him in the game. This draws attention to his one visible eye, and as established earlier eyes are associated with the church
Anyway thats the end!! I hope you liked my post and normal level of digging for a character with like no screentime and now understand the idea that he is religious :3

Uh oh! Someone left me alone with my thoughts again! I don't see many people talking too deeply about pre-game stuff beyond "Number One was a terrible person" so I'm here to throw my own poorly explained hot take in to the ring-
I'm not really built for theory crafting and tend to miss or forget obvious details so consider this... an AU proposal more then anything. (Tbh I mostly just wanted to draw smol Yuma lmao-)
Spoiler warning ofc and enjoy this horrifically long and poorly explained ramble-
So... I don't really know much about the general fandom age headcannons on characters. I won't be going in to specifics right now about what I think all the character ages are cuz this isn't about that but for context, I pin Yuma around 15-16, on the early 18 side if you really wanna push it. Mainly cuz... it'd be kinda weird for Kurumi (a school student) to be one of his main love interests otherwise- For the sake of argument, I'll say 18.
So anyways-
Makoto's like... what? 3 or 4 years old? Forgive me for not re-watching chapter 5 just to get my timeline correct here but that's roughly right. Meaning that Number One would've been about 13 or 14 when he agreed to participate in the experiments at most. And sure, he's the smartest person in the world but anyone can be susceptible to lies or manipulations, especially someone that young.
But then of course we don't know how long Yuma had the Number One title for. Surely it would've had to have been at least a little while- I doubt the unified government would go after the blood of the newly appointed "smartest detective in the world" the second he got in to office. So who's to say exactly how much this literal child had been manipulated beforehand?
I'm imagining a sort of... Nagisa plus Kirigiri scenario (the danganronpa characters lol-) where they'd been set on a very specific academic path nearly their whole lives. Sure, Yuma probably had been born a genius and his strong moral code was most likely all his own but... no matter what way you spin it, there must have been some negligence to allow someone so young to become so cut off from the rest of society. It could've been intentional, it could've been accidental. Either way, why is someone like Yuma, who is obviously younger then most of his peers, who could easily pass as a trainee detective simply because of how smol he is, make it all the way to the top on his sheer intelligence alone?
This rambling's getting incoherent, sorry, it's late and I'm tired-
Makoto's pretty manipulative, sure, but he only got to the CEO position cuz of all the blackmail he had- Man had zero control over the city to the point he had to let outsiders get smuggled in just to help him fix it. Makoto (and by extension Number One) is book smart. Not street smart. They can build the rain machine, they can run multiple government conspiracies, etc etc. But if Number One was a kid at the time, it would've been pretty difficult for them to manipulate, mansplain, malewife his way in to office imo. A kid can't manipulate a dozens of adults in to being the leader of the whole WDO, no matter how naturally gifted they are. I mean it's no secret that the unified government and by extension the WDO are just as shady as Amaterasu so why wouldn't they take advantage of a young and impressionable kid when the opportunity arises?
We don't really know how Number One truly felt about anything. We know how Makoto views it, we know what Yuma thinks about it but we don't know if Number One really understood what the repercussions of the experiments could've been.
So let me just... break down what I'd interpret a vague timeline of events to be (in this hypothetical... Uh... AU I guess?)
- Yuma gets in to the WDO somehow. Very young, very impressionable. He may be really good at solving crimes but like any kid, he doesn't know anything that he isn't taught about. Being surrounded by mysteries and crimes, all while constantly being praised by adults as being "just soooo smart!" Is probably what taught him that he didn't need other people and so never learnt (or potentially was never even allowed to) make friends.
- Growing up surrounded by a combination of Yes-Men and people who let the obvious child labour/ exploitation slide because "This little genius is such a special case, we gotta let it slide this once!" Made it so he reached to the level of Number One far faster then anyone would expect. And that then came along with abandoning his old name and identity, isolating himself completely for his own protection. (I like to think he may not even remember his original name because he was so young at the time (for extra angst ^vO))
- And so a completely isolated pre-teen, who's entire life up until this point has entirely consisted of gory murder scenes and tragic crimes he was personally responsible for solving, was approached by the unified government. Who knows exactly how much detail they went in to with explaining their plan? Maybe they said that it probably wouldn't even work out, given all the past failures. Maybe they came begging for his help, like many people seeking justice would have done before them. Maybe they simply told him it was for the sake of peace? Maybe he was in his angsty emo phase and thought having a clone would be cool, who really knows? A pre-teen is a pree-teen, they all do dumb things- either way, he agreed.
- And so things played out like they said in the game, Makoto was created, escaped, saved the citizens of Kanai Ward via isolating them. He keeps them fed the only way he knows how - through the WDO; the only organisation he's ever been able to rely on (and thanks to his authority level, of course). Yuma starts getting suspicious while also simultaneously maturing enough to realise just how wrong everything about his life is, gets his new identity, makes the contract with Shinigami and heads off to start fixing his problems.
Additional Thoughts:
It's like that thing in the original beauty and the beast movie where everyone suddenly realised that the witch probably cursed a 9 year old for not letting a creepy stranger in to his home-
Maybe that's why he stuck with the name Yuma after everything. Cuz he didn't remember his original name to fall back on. He could've been Number One for as long as he could remember for all we know!
Maybe he was so busy trying to run the whole WDO that he didn't even pay much mind to the experiments? Could've just agreed to shut them up without knowing what he was getting in to. Makoto really drove it in to the mud how horrible of a person Number One was but how can we be sure that's an objective fact and not completely opinion driven?
I'm like actually really curious what other's perspectives on this could be. Again, I don't know much about the rain code fandom's age headcannons but it's pretty obvious to me at least that Yuma's on the younger end of the cast- (And by extension, Makoto too-)
Maybe I'll fact check myself when I have the time- either way, it's an interesting AU idea at the very least. I'll probably delete the writing portion of this post if it turns out I'm horrendously wrong-
Its probably gunna turn out that Yuma's in his mid 30s or 40s and suffers from baby face syndrome or something cringe fail like that lmfao-
So. Yeah. That's all just a theory (minus most of the fact checking) A GAME THEORY- Thanks for reading! :D

mdarc chapter 4 spoilers (tw negative)
i'm a couple of doors into the mystery labyrinth, and it's getting a little annoying having shinigami and yuma go "but how could this have happened? who could have done this?" when i literally knew it was yakou as soon as the game told me that the poison had a delay. this is so silly like "how could anyone have got past this, they would have died in thirty minutes!" ok! narrow your suspect pool to people who die in the next thirty minutes then! damn!!!
#mdarc#rain code#little ranty#also i have only just started so if [redacted] isn't the killer then so be it#but i know they are there's no way it's anyone else#vivia having that quiet (more than usual) moment when yuma said the lab is hooked up to a secondary power source that never went down#is so good#i think [redacted] required an accomplice for [last part of their plan] but from that reaction i don't think it's vivia#i think it just got more or less confirmed for him who the killer was#also viv is so interesting to me!!! i was right that he was going to be my favourite#the bold experience machine enjoyer#i find it kind of funny when halara says that he'd be a great detective if he just put in more effort#this isn't some problem of viv not reaching his goals or anything#he is very good at the things he actually likes doing and wants to do#he wants to come up with theories as to how a crime could have been committed#he doesn't particularly care about which one is right#just finding ways around logical constraints#that being said he very much understands that choosing one of those and expressing it will influence the world#which is why he doesn't tend to communicate when he's figured something out#he's more interested in observing what other people do unrestricted by his influence#this is why i think it's really sweet when he threatens to kill yuma (insane sentence)#i have such a soft spot for characters who break their own rules and principle for someone they really care about#and seeing vivia put [redacted] in front of his own happiness and ingrained way of doing things is so humanising#i don't think viv is particularly complex as a character#once you grasp that he genuinely has no regard for what's true and enjoys ambiguity you've can understand him from there#there's this one line where he says 'after all...i'm more interested in the story than the truth...'#but he is my favourite by far#i love how he's straddling the line of philosophical postmodernism and actual psychosis#he's so interesting to me#tw negative

[Major raincode spoilers]
My headcanons about Yuma/Makoto/number one

(Text on image under the cut)
He developed coalesce at a young age by learning to copy other people's handwriting
By working as an apprentice at the WDO, he rapidly developed his skills
The role of number one was practically forced onto him
His cloak is less tattered
As number one, he wore trousers as part of his uniform
His original hairstyle is a neater styled version of Makoto's hair (the colour is still purple)
He cuts it shorter to appear younger to fit his apprentice 'cover'
Name: Daiki Ichiban (shining number one) - this is my headcanon for his birth name
Identity: number one of the word detective organisation
Age: 23 (at the time of game), 20 (when Makoto is created), 15 (when he became number one)
Makoto being CEO isn't too far removed from his leadership role as number one
Constantly overworked
He has absolutely no ties to his family and no friends to speak of. He has lived his life completely alone
His growth has been stunted by the immense pressure he has been under since birth
He is still shy and awkward due to his entire life revolving around solving mysteries
Despite being an adult, his mannerisms are that of an eccentric teenager

I love how in Rain Code you let Yuma free and he inmediatly gets to doing chores for random people on the street. My man's on a mission to save the world from evil corporation and instead decides to go around finding lost children and delivering letters of unwanted marriage
#would this in theory make Yuma a malewife?#i mean like he goes around#and cleans and#does things around#no i mean#like uh#hes just sorta a good guy actually i really like how he cares for people#and how he runs to save children#Rain Code#master detective archives: rain code#ALSO HALARA MY BELOVED

one thing that has vexed me about rain code's epilogue is
each of the master detectives, as they leave the submarine behind, offers a heartfelt thank you and a bow to yakou's empty desk, saying their goodbyes
except vivia. he doesn't bow or say thank you or goodbye or anything. he just gets out of the suitcase, puts his coat back on, says "this place was comfy I guess" and then leaves.
obviously vivia is far from the type to wear his heart on his sleeve, we already got a sense for how much yakou meant to him in Chapter 4 (though we didn't see why until his dlc) when he talked to yuma one on one. he does tend to clam up when things get too emotional (such as when the group is gathered around dying yakou and he's off sulking in the corner pretending he doesn't care) so it's not like he needs to put on a show for the sake of formality
but even then. not even a goodbye? he hardly even addresses yakou at all
maybe he knew
maybe it was just a hunch
that it wasn't goodbye. not really
