Dunki Box Office Estimate Day 1: Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki collects Rs. 31 crores; emerges as the 2nd biggest opener for Raju Hirani
Shah Rukh Khan and Rajkumar Hirani's first-ever collaboration, Dunki, has taken a good start at the box office in India. According to early estimates, the Rajkumar Hirani-directed immigration drama has collected in the range of Rs. 30 to 32 crores on its opening day. The start is a little below what was expected, but nonetheless, it's a good opening for this SRK-led social comedy.
Tumblr media
The top 3 chains – PVR, Inox, and Cinepolis - have collected in the range of Rs. 18 crores nett on the first day, contributing 56 percent to the total business of Dunki. The film being a story set in Punjab has fared the best in Delhi and Punjab, followed by Shah Rukh Khan's den, West Bengal. The opening is good in Mumbai too; however, the mass belts are below expectations.
Dunki is the second biggest opener for director Rajkumar Hirani after his 2018 directorial, Sanju, which opened at Rs. 34 crores. The start in monetary terms is similar to the Aamir Khan-led PK, though the footfalls are lower. The initial word of mouth seems to be positive and this will help the film get long legs at the box office and emerge as a major success.
With Dunki. Shah Rukh Khan is looking to score a hat trick of success and the early reports of the audience indicate that it could well be a big grosser. The film will face competition from Salaar on December 22 and it's the trend from tomorrow that will tell us how far the film can go. If Dunki manages to stay in the same range as opening day, it is poised to be a mammoth blockbuster at the box office.

Rajkumar Hirani reveals Shah Rukh Khan knew Dunki was a “Slow burner”; says, “He always told me not to expect huge initial numbers” : Bollywood News — Bollywood Hungama
Helmed by Rajkumar Hirani, Dunki stars Shah Rukh Khan and was released on December 21.
Shah Rukh Khan’s 2023 was nothing short of phenomenal. After a four-year hiatus, he roared back onto the silver screen with not one, but three talked-about films — Pathaan, Jawan, and Dunki. While Pathaan and Jawan set the box office ablaze with their high-octane action sequences and crossed the coveted Rs 1,000 crore gross mark globally, Dunki took a different route.

Rajkumar Hirani reveals Shah Rukh Khan knew Dunki was a “Slow burner”; says, “He always told me not to expect huge initial numbers”
The heartwarming comedy-drama, directed by the acclaimed Rajkumar Hirani, opened to a solid Rs 29.20 crores but relied on word-of-mouth appreciation to steadily climb towards a worldwide box office collection of over Rs. 300 crores.
In a recent exclusive interview with News18 Showsha, Hirani revealed a fascinating insight into Khan’s approach to Dunki. Contrary to expectations, the superstar was not anticipating Pathaan-level box office numbers for his Hirani-directed outing. “After doing two back-to-back action films, Shah Rukh was looking forward to Dunki,” Hirani said.
“He was happy doing something different, something heartfelt. He’s a very intelligent man and he knew that the audience was currently drawn to action movies. He always told me not to expect huge initial numbers for Dunki. He knew it was a slow burner, a film that would grow on people and eventually bring families to the theatres. He, more than anyone, was preparing me for this, and that’s exactly what happened. We’ve seen so many families coming together to watch Dunki,” said Hirani.
Dunki features an ensemble cast, with colourful characters portrayed by exceptionally talented actors Boman Irani, Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, Vikram Kochhar, and Anil Grover, along with Shah Rukh Khan. A JIO Studios, Red Chillies Entertainment, and Rajkumar Hirani Films presentation, produced by Rajkumar Hirani and Gauri Khan, written by Abhijat Joshi, Rajkumar Hirani, and Kanika Dhillon, Dunki released on the big screen on December 21

Dunki vs Salaar - Who Will Rule The Box Office Throne?
Tumblr media
Dunki Vs Salaar: War Fixed Between King And Bahubali, Will We See Magic Like 'Barbenheimer' In India?
Entertainment News. Cinema lovers must be aware of Hollywood's biggest clash, Barbenheimer. This clash was seen in the month of June this year, where two big films of Hollywood world (Universal and Warner Bros) and two big directors (Christopher Nolan and Greta Gerwig), Barbie and Oppenheimer. Had come face to face. The style of both the films was different but still both made huge profits and also gathered a lot of love from the audience.
Let us tell you that this year a similar coincidence seems to be happening in the Indian cinema world also. There is going to be a clash of two such big films in India in December this year. It will have Shahrukh's Dunki on one side and Prabhas's Salaar on the other side. Due to the clash between the two, fans of both the actors, cinema lovers and people on social media have started speculating whether this could prove to be India's Barbenheimer? Let us know about it.
Shahrukh's Comeback And Prabhas's Downfall:
In the initial months of the year 2023 itself, we saw Shah Rukh Khan in such an avatar on the basis of which he made a stormy comeback. The comeback also happened that he gave a film earning two thousand crores within a year, which no one had done till date in history. On the other hand, Prabhas's career seems to be wavering at present because after Bahubali, his remaining 3 films have proved to be flops.
Adding fuel to the fire was a low level film like Adipurush which has reduced Prabhas's image in the Hindi speaking belt. He played the character of Lord Shri Ram in Adipurush, for which he was criticized a lot, but Salaar is being seen more as a part of the KGF universe than Prabhas's film, due to which there is a different excitement among the audience.
Makers Of Salaar Confirmed The Release Date:
Although Salaar was earlier scheduled to be released today i.e. on 28th September, but film director and producer of KGF Universe, Prashant Neel was not satisfied with the climax and CGI due to which he decided to extend the release date of the film indefinitely. . However, according to recent news from some media houses, the producer of Salaar has expressed his desire to the theater owners to release Salaar movie on the occasion of Christmas. But now Salaar production house Hombale Films has today confirmed that it is ready to release its film Salaar - Ceasefire on 22nd December i.e. Donkey.
Entertainment news in hindi, On the other hand, since the release of his Jawan movie, Shahrukh Khan has been seen confirming the release date of Dunki on some platform or the other, saying that he will release his film on the occasion of Christmas. In view of all this, speculations have started about the clash of both the films. Fans and cinema lovers of both the actors have fallen prey to this. He believes that if this conflict happens, it can prove to be India's Barbenheimer.
Shahrukh's Plan For Donkey, Prashant Will Again Shoot KGF Arrow:
Let us tell you that Dinky's team has prepared a big plan to launch the film in the international market, under which they are planning to defeat Salaar. The team of Donkey will release the film in the international market on 21st December, a day before its release date of 22nd December that too with only late night shows. On the other hand, Salaar director Prashant Neel seems to be planning to repeat the fight with Shahrukh in the year 2018.
Yes, this will not be the first time that the film of Shahrukh Khan and KGF universe will clash. This had happened earlier in the year 2018 when Shahrukh Khan's big budget film Zero clashed with KGF Chapter One on December 21. At that time, Prashant Neel's film had won, but this time both the time and situation are different, because this time Shahrukh is coming on 21st December breaking the records.
Is Bharat Barbenheimer Possible?
If seen in reality, the chances of this happening are very less because firstly, these are just internal reports which have not been officially confirmed yet and secondly, there are not enough cinema halls in India to screen two such big budget films. . There are a total of 10,167 cinema screens in India, of which 40–45 percent are in South India. There is another big film of South Indian industry which is going to be released in December itself and that is Dhanush's Captain Miller. To see something like Barbenheimer in India, our films will have to do better in the international market, the doors of which, RRR and Shahrukh's Pathan Aur Jawan have opened to some extent.
Latest entertainment news, Grand opening and earning of Shahrukh's Dunki on the international stage is almost certain. With the help of SS Rajamouli's RRR, people from abroad are also getting to know about regional films of India apart from Bollywood, which Salaar can take advantage of. In such a situation, it would not be wrong to say that if the reports prove to be true and both the films are released on the same day, then we may get a chance to see India’s Barbenheimer in which Indian cinema will win.

A long (spoilers included) review of Dunki.
Because I think I should just write it all out.
Starts with classic Hirani flavour. A main character on a wheelchair plotting an escape. And they succeed. Mannu runs away to meet her lawyer to ask about her visa condition. The answer is negative but she's desperate to be back home now. So comes the names of Hardy, a guy who she hasn't met in 25 years now.
Cue Hardayal Singh Dhillon, in all his greys and old age cramps running a race and also winning it but well a call from Mannu, who cares about a damn race. He answers no I'm not coming to get you and she smiles saying 'kand' ho gaya hai. And how can the 'Banda' refuse.
This was the introduction of a tale so simple, yet so real. Why do people leave their homes? The homes even with the poverty still has the warmth and love. But what could be more glaring than poverty for unemployed youth. Sometimes it's heartbreaking love, a love so powerful that people decide to end themselves instead of trying to survive through. That's Sukhi and Jassi's subplot, which only propels Hardy to decide on the donkey route, a decision that'll change all their lives forever.
And so starts the dunki, shown very aesthetically if I might say the horrors and the dangers. But you know your leads survive so you hold on. They wade underwater, scared and tired. They hide in freezers, cold. They walk through the desert among skeletons and evilness. Mannu has a cathartic experience here. And you wonder what exactly is the point of going through all this trouble without any guarantee. But they manage to reach their destination.
And now awaits another horror. Immigrants are looked down upon. They aren't humans in the eye of the citizens and don't get the dignity to live like humans either. Toiling through odd jobs, sending fake pictures to assure their families and to give them a better life is their only cause now. But Hardy doesn't have any of that. He's there for Mannu, so he starts the point of going back. But necessity is larger than lives for some people.
So they get caught and the rest seek asylum but Hardy can't lie, won't lie that it was his country that's unsafe for him. So he's sent back.
Fascinatingly dark that deported people get to travel safely back to the places they tried so hard to escape. It's along the same line as punishing people attempting suicide. This helps no-one.
Anyway 25 years pass offscreen. We get to know in passing that the families back home are doing well enough but our 3 asylum seekers are not getting the visa to return home. But trust Hardy, he can do it.
And Hardy does, with a bit of cunning and so much old man charm, the old man does it for his Mannu. But Mannu is dying. And ah well. What beats a tragic love story.
What beats a movie with so much heart and love and pain underlying the humour and constant laughter.
You just end up sitting a bit longer in the theatre and hoping to gather your thoughts because there's so much and yet there's this numbness. Is it because you saw the best movie, maybe. There's no best movie as per me honestly. Is it because this topic is way too real but so far from your reality that it shocks you a bit more. Is it because you love the man frontlining these moving images and you can see no fault.
Honestly I don't even want to conclude. If I could I would like to hug Sukhi right after the phone call, and Hardy after the court and at the terrace. But I'm guessing Hardy will be fine. Wo sambhal lega apne ko. Mannu I hope you had happy moments, even if they were the bare minimum.

DUNKI ( 2023 )
Tumblr media
As much as I had anticipated to watching the dream collaboration of Rajkumar Hirani & SRK, this was not what we deserved. The movie in itself is a good watch but being a Rajkumar Hirani film, it's a letdown.
The actors have done their performances well, especially SRK & Vicky Kaushal. The album of the movie was also really good. The comedy however was average but atleast the emotions tried to hit the right spots.
But addressing the elephant in the room, this would have been a good film but coming from Raju Hirani, the movie clearly lacked his touch. All Hirani movies have that element which makes them memorable but this film clearly lacked it.
The comedy from Hirani's previous ventures still stands out today and will in the future. But Dunki's comedy was totally off and in terms of giving a message, the film tries to buy but it doesn't come out well.
The actors did their part well based on the script but it was the script that needed improvement. But the movie is still a good watch. But I hope to see Hirani & SRK coming together again in the future with something better🤞✌️

"Learning to Thrive: 3 Idiots - A Journey of Friendship and Fulfillment"
Tumblr media
"3 Idiots" is an iconic Bollywood film that continues to inspire and touch hearts since its release in 2009. Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, the film features an ensemble cast led by Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Boman Irani. Set against the backdrop of an esteemed engineering college, the movie beautifully captures the trials and triumphs of friendship, self-discovery, and the pursuit of true happiness.
Why "3 Idiots" is a Journey Worth Celebrating:
"3 Idiots" is an extraordinary journey that resonates with audiences for several compelling reasons. Firstly, it goes beyond the stereotypical college narrative, offering a poignant reflection on societal pressures, academic stress, and the importance of pursuing one's passion. The film's central message of following one's dreams instead of conforming to societal expectations strikes a powerful chord with viewers of all ages.
The film's heart lies in the profound bond of friendship shared by its three protagonists - Rancho, Farhan, and Raju. Their camaraderie, humor, and unwavering support for each other throughout life's trials embody the true essence of friendship. As they navigate the complexities of life and education, "3 Idiots" reminds us of the significance of genuine connections and the strength they bring during the toughest times.
"3 Idiots" also shines through its exceptional performances, especially Aamir Khan's portrayal of the enigmatic Rancho. His charisma, wit, and wisdom make Rancho an unforgettable character, and Aamir's portrayal adds layers of depth to the film's narrative. The cast's chemistry and brilliant performances make the movie a heartwarming and relatable experience for all.
Tumblr media
The Film's Resonance:
"3 Idiots" strikes a chord with viewers not only for its universal themes of friendship and perseverance but also for its celebration of the joy of learning and the pursuit of true knowledge. The film encourages us to question the norms, embrace creativity, and forge our unique paths to achieve fulfillment. Its uplifting narrative ignites the flame of inspiration within, motivating us to pursue our passions fearlessly and live life on our own terms.
Furthermore, "3 Idiots" touches upon the importance of compassionate and unconventional teaching methods. The film's depiction of the unorthodox teaching style of Professor Viru Sahastrabuddhe, fondly known as "Virus," played brilliantly by Boman Irani, contrasts sharply with the free-spirited and innovative approach of Rancho. This stark contrast prompts us to reflect on the transformative power of educators who inspire curiosity and passion in their students, rather than merely adhering to rigid academic syllabi. "3 Idiots" challenges the traditional notions of education and advocates for a more inclusive and nurturing environment that fosters creativity and critical thinking, leaving an enduring impact on how we perceive the role of education in shaping our lives.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, "3 Idiots" stands as a cinematic masterpiece that has left an indelible mark on the hearts of audiences worldwide. With its celebration of friendship, wisdom, and the pursuit of true happiness, the film encourages us to break free from societal constraints and embrace our individuality. Through the remarkable journey of its "three idiots," the film reminds us to cherish true friendships, embrace lifelong learning, and strive for fulfillment in every aspect of life. "3 Idiots" is more than a movie; it is a heartfelt celebration of life's most profound values and an enduring source of inspiration for generations to come.

3 Idiots (2009) - Rajkumar Hirani
“Even a circus lion learns to sit in fear of the whip, but you call such lion well trained, not well educated.”
3 Idiots is an ironic title because it’s a film full of wisdom. But where there is wisdom, there is controversies. This was especially true to the Asian community on family expectations with career. To have an education is not the same as being well educated.
Rancho is the symbolic character of genuine learning. But more interestingly, we see his two relatable friends. One needs to graduate for his family. One wishes not to graduate at all. Their story is a tug-and-pull of being practical and being free.
One thing is for sure. We need to do better for our students. 3 Idiots is not just a fairytale of rags to riches, but a reality that poverty can reduce education to an escape. A love of learning flourishes from an environment that it is safe to learn.

PK (2014)
Film review #560
Director: Rajkumar Hirani
SYNOPSIS: An alien arrives on Earth, and has his communicator with his spaceship stolen. Now stranded on the planet, he attempts to learn how to survive and learn the ways of the people here, but he is especially confused by the concept of religion. He meets Jaggu, a reporter who is looking for her next big story. She is intrigued by his naivety and how his simple questions challenge the conflicts between different religions, and how those that profess to know what God wants are the ones who know least about religion. Jaggu and PK show down with Tapaswi, a religious leader who has come into possession of PK’s communicator, claiming to be a religious artefact, and the pair try to expose him and get PK’s communicator back to he can return home...
THOUGHTS/ANALYSIS: PK is a 2014 Indian sci-fi film. The story primarily revolves around PK, an alien who, in the film’s opening, lands on Earth, and shortly after has his communicator with his spaceship stolen, meaning he has no way to get back home. Attempting to adjust to life on Earth, he turns to God for help, but is perpetually confused by all of the different religions and their rules. He eventually encounters Jaggu, a reporter who is looking out for a worthwhile story, and becomes interested by PK’s naïve take on the world, and how it provides genuine insight on the world from a fresh perspective. Opting to tackle the absolute minefield that is differences and conflicts between religions, PK from the outset sets itself a dangerous task, but the comedic aspect of the film never strays into being offensive or controversial, focusing on what the religions have in common, rather than their confrontations. This might seem to be a bit simplistic, but this is one of the film’s greatest strengths; it manoeuvres through it’s subject in such an expert manner that it creates an entertaining experience full of life. On top of this, the dialogue and performances are precise and genuine, and again, are professionally executed.
The film is essentially divided into two halves: the first half deals with the more comedic aspects and a very “fish out of water” situation surrounding PK being stranded on Earth. The second half switches to a more drama and serious tone, with PK trying to expose the religious preacher Tapaswi, and get back his communicator that Tapaswi is claiming to be a religious icon to his followers. Again, when the film gets serious, it still maintains it’s expert exploration of it’s subject: avoiding being controversial, but still making a significant statement and creating some intense emotional moments. Even though the film is almost split down the middle, the change of tone doesn’t feel artificial, and feels like it moves on just when it needs to. If I were to find a fault in the plot, I would say the forced romance element that shows up at the final part of the film and about “letting go” just didn’t really need to be there, but even then, it is handled so well in terms of dialogue and acting, and producing a emotional reaction that it doesn’t really matter that it wasn’t really necessary, because it still produces something worthwhile.
The cast work so well in their roles, and although they are roles you are probably familiar with, such as PK being a clueless alien adjusting to life on Earth, they are still brought to life vibrantly, as mentioned, through stellar acting and sharp dialogue, and in the end it feels like you come out of it with a well rounded experience that never hits a lull. Despite having a few bumps in the story with a few elements that it could have done without, I think it is necessary to give PK high praise as a film: it is lots of fun, but also very heartfelt, alongside making a powerful statement without being mired in controversy. The film deserves the praise it received, and in particular, the absolutely solid script and dialogue, enhanced further with a host of strong performances. Not quite perfect, but deserving of it’s huge success.
