Thinking about Laura saying "I was alone with him" three times.

It reminds me of two things... The first, from earlier in the book [about Count Fosco and Madame Fosco]:

And the second from The Tenant of Wildfell Hall [between Ralph Hattersley and his wife Milicent, when she tries to remind him that they are in company]:

The envy of those her senior, Laurel Hyde excels at her job as a photojournalist. She’s not afraid to really get in there, especially as she lives in New York City- ya know, where aliens seem to invade every couple of years and superheroes can be seen flying around.

It seemed inevitable that she would eventually meet one of the Avengers. After running into newly-recruited Wanda Maximoff, who enjoys coffee from the same little café as Laurel, the two quickly become friends. Nothing could have prepared Laurel for being invited to the Avengers Tower though- or meeting Sam Wilson.
