2/100 Days of Productivity

Dragged myself kicking and screaming out of a mental health slump

Finally finished filling in all the forms I need to for my ADHD assessment (on Friday!)

Attended every lecture + took notes

Caught up with 2 weeks worth of Economic Decision Making (1 to go!)

1 week worth of Macroeconomics (3 to go!)

1 week worth if Public Economics (3 to go!)

Found out I have an internship for Easter (which is exciting but needs me to really buckle down and study now)

Found out I got a first for my Macro paper last semester :)

Today was my last in person English lit lecture. It's kinda sad it's done already since I was vibing so much with quite a few classmates, but I am hopefuly that the new friendships I made will last, and that I will feel more confident socializing in other classes. It was definitely a good stsrt of the academic year. After being very stressed out by public transoports I got home to find a letter and a card from a friend and it totally changed my mood. I cannot put to words the warm feeling that I get inside when I read handwritten letters from a friend. They were thinking of me!! And they took time out of their day to write to me!! How cool is that.

Cozy hobbit autumn activities and productivity:

Daily Irish practice on duolingo

Sudoku and crosswords to pass the time on the bus

3 hour English lit lecture

Got fresh focaccia for lunch with two friends as we walked to our bus stops

Listened to a couple of podcasts to relax once I got home

1st March: What are your goals for this month? What's something you're looking forward to?

My goals for this month are to develop a proper and regular schedule, not skip meals or sleep because of assignments in college (which currently isn't a problem right now bc I'm living at home but might become a problem when I live in college), start working out regularly, submit all assignments early. Something I'm looking forward to is finally going to college in person!!!! I've been there once while we were dropping my brother off like 5 or sth years ago but that was a different part of the uni since he was in the aeronautical branch. I would love to see the architecture block and the studios and equipment and all of that! Also one of my best friends is going to be in the medical college at the University campus so I'll get to meet her there!!!!

Gosh its been just one week and we've already got so many assignments send help lmao. But yeah!! Day 1 of the march productivity challenge! I could participate in the February challenge very well because between getting covid, recovering, and then going to my cousin's marriage I legit did not get time to update anything lol. It was really good to see so many people participate in it though!!! I'm glad to see people enjoyed it and I hope everyone will enjoy participating in this month's challenge as well!!

the last few months I've been traveling a lot, reading a lot, and also trying to recover from the past year, which is a tall order. but something about november has brought me back to life! I'm working on applications to phd programs (rip) and finally settling into a new routine. will I change my url to reflect my new state? will I keep posting about gap year shenanigans? only time will tell

2/30 New Years Momentum Challenge

So one of the reasons it took so long for me to post this one (aside from like. Depression.) Is that I don't have a set study space!

Studying in my room kind of just exacerbates my mental health issues.

So instead I'm posting a picture of the most aesthetically interesting of the three libraries I like setting up camp in!

It's delightfully spooky and maze-like in a way that I think all libraries should be.

I got so lost looking for the toilet last night.

It has some really cool historical/artistic/information exhibits. (Creepiest guy ever under the cut.)

I love him.

Midsem starts in 2 days. The pressure is real. Next week going to be really hard. But, I am enjoying the subjects. But, I think I would prefer studying without the pressure of the exam.

I got my second vaccination!!! Finally!!! Also while waiting before being allowed to leave I started reading this gem💎 I finished Night Sky with Exit Wounds yesterday and I've become a little obsessed with Ocean's work<3

Honestly the most beautiful thing is how I can relate to the Vietnamese-American perspective as an Indonesian-Dutch person and I really appreciate that he wrote about the experience of coming from a history of war and abuse and trauma because it's something not often discussed. I highly recommend both books to those who want to learn more about those experiences!! (Or if you just want some good poetry/prose haha)

Also I'm thinking of making a post featuring some of my favorite quotes so keep an eye out for that!

Hey Yasemin! Congratulations on three years, that's quite a long time!! This is al from randomstudyblr and this year I got the chance to go live abroad and experience so many new things, it definitely has changed my life. And I still have another year to go!

18.03.2022 / current read + a beautiful late winter bloom near my house. i've felt pretty much stuck since finishing my degree in december; i can't decide what to do next because i'm not sure of what i want. i wish i could just read forever, but apparently i must "find my way in life". ugh.

it’s been such slow going with data analysis and this week I’ve already put more than ten hours into data wrangling and reading documentation and tutorials on different functions. the good news is that I’m not feeling nearly as frustrated as I did yesterday or the day before, and only part of that is thanks to the huge fluffy snowflakes outside.

some part of me was convinced that my value as a student and researcher was directly related to how few days it would take for me to turn around the analysis on this project and get it to my advisor. I don’t know where I got that notion since 1) stats definitely isn’t my strong suit 2) I had no idea how to do an actual anova in R before and 3) my advisor has decades of experience so of course she’ll be faster at this than I am. in the end, I realized that I’m learning and accomplishing one new and important thing a day in RStudio and that’s more than enough. for instance, learning about tidy data yesterday meant I could reorganize my data in a better way. then today I learned to make frequency tables with dplyr that I could finally use with anova_test(). the time between coding sessions really helped me see things more clearly and kept me from tearing my hair out.

anyway, it’s time to get back to my homework...
