having been a taylor pop girlie all my life, this rap beef is making me understand that there's actually a lot of lyricism in rap that's not just tip-of-the-iceberg shit. i gotta admit, i listened to mr. morale and the big steppers after hearing not like us, and i shed more than a few tears. so, this is me swallowing my pride and asking for rap record recommendations. please?

this fandom's contempt for alicent's relationship to her faith is something else. i kinda get it, seeing as we're living in a society (at least in the west) that has moved progressively further and further away from religion, but like all things about this show that would be better if we put on our medieval sensibility goggles......there is nothing wrong about alicent's commitment to the faith of the seven. like. believing and clinging to and trying to observe the faith of her late mother is not a point against her that you can gleefully make without looking like an idiot, i can't believe i have to say it. and whether or not she is "living up to her standards" or "being a hypocrite" is neither here nor there. if a woman who was manipulated by her father into marrying an old ass man while still a girl, forced to share his bed and have his children, who had no friends and no one present she could actually trust wants to put on a seven-pointed star and wear it as part of her armor and go to the sept on the regular to pray, then she fucking deserves it!!!! this is why religion exists, you absolute heathens!!!!

People are wild lol rap does actually take a certain level of skill to both perform and understand, it takes five seconds of research to see that theres decent lyricism going on there. Lots of rappers are actually great at english, they dont all know the official terms for the things they practice but rapping is like a form of poetry really.
ofc there are subgenres that i personally do not like such as mumble rap (a conversation for another time i digress) but if you take for example kendrick's latest diss tracks to drake, its something that has to literally be studied and broken down by a bunch of people lol and once you break it down and understand the refrences you see that its not just a bunch of words and a beat. of course white people will think something they dont understand is ghetto trash what else is new lol they're the kings of ostricizing and devaluing what they dont understand. They did it to jazz they did it to metal and alternative music and they do it to rap.
At the end of the day, culture is a thing that will be understood by those who are meant to understand it. You dont have to like rap to acknowledge that its an art, but calling it trash and refusing to see it from any point of view but your own speaks for itself.
And for the record, im not a rap fan lol its a genre i hardly listen to in fact, but what i am is an artist, and i can acknowledge art when i see it.
i'll be honest, i don't think lack of understanding is solely what comes into it, if at all. the genres that get the most aggressive pushback are also ones that threaten a cultural hegdemony in their respective societies (white, male, christian etc) and that's not a coincidence. rap gets the worst of this and ultimately i don't think it has ever boiled down to not knowing what GOAT means and a lot more to do with overt and tacit hostility towards black people making outspoken art on their own terms in a deeply racist society.
but otherwise i completely agree with you! the lyrical complexity, rhyming schemes and dexterity at play in a good rap song is second to none and you could absolutely teach a literature class on it. it is as much a poetic medium as anything else while also encompassing its own deeply layered, complex and distinct sensibilities--just like, literally, every other art form on earth! to pretend otherwise is just ludicrous at this point.

Diss tracks so good he's trending on TUMBLR.
Tumblr media
Kendrick's definitely won by now and I fear if Drake drops again he might genuinely soil any reputation he has left.
'The Heart Part 6' was the weakest song in this whole ordeal imo. If you try and fight against 'Meet the Grahams' and 'Not Like Us' by just reiterating your same points and only denying the shit against you with the equivalent of saying nuh uh and you think that will work you're kind of fucking stupid. And add on to that the nastiness of trying to insinuate that you're only being called a pedophile because the guy you're fighting got molested when there are videos, and lyrics, and proabably loads of other very questionable shit that alludes to that (It doesn't help that you couldn't even listen to the song you're referencing and realize that isn't even near what it is saying). Doubling down on the view that Kendrick Lamar hits his wife as your only real support in this fight when the only evidence for that is an old interview (that was debunked but that might not matter) and that his wife doesn't follow him on instagram? Meanwhile her brother has been supporting Kendrick through this whole thing which makes that even weaker.
TLDR.: Drake is a discusting pos and I wouldn't be surprised if he was lying about not having a daughter

The Astrology of: Kendrick Lamar
Kendrick Lamar is one of the most important and thought-provoking artists in the Hip-Hop genre. Born on June 17th, 1987, he would experience the harsh circumstances that Compton, California had to offer—usually gang violence, shootings, and racial struggles—and this had a profound effect on him and his perspective on the world. To cope with his environment, Lamar expressed himself through poetry and rapping, being inspired by Tupac Shakur - this also kept him away from “gang life”. Lamar’s music/albums reflect on heavy topics—spirituality, morality, and of course, racial injustice—while still being accessible (at times) to the mainstream.
Tumblr media
No real confirmation on a birth time, so I’ll just focus on some of his aspects and placements.
Tumblr media
- Mercury conjunct Mars: Aspects between these two planets are commonly found in Rapper’s charts. Mercury is supported by Mars through passionate speech and messages. You can come off as strong and loud, even if you don’t intend to. People with this aspect can also use their words as a weapon (see: beef with Drake).
- Sun in Gemini - Moon in Pisces Combination: The Sun is how we express our pride and autonomy. Gemini is an energy that deals with interaction and information, so people with a Gemini Sun like to communicate and get a reaction out of others. They can express themselves through comedy, literature, and Rapping.
Pisces Moons find emotional comfort through isolation, day-dreaming, and art, since Pisces energy deals with everything that is non-physical and imaginative.
This combo can explain why Kendrick is so creative in the medium(s) of hip-hop and poetry. Kanye West also has this combination in his chart, and he is seen as someone who likes to think outside-of-the-box when it comes to creating music - and everything else he does.
- Moon trine Mercury: The Moon—how we try to find emotional comfort—is being supported by Mercury. Lamar expresses himself through written word and poetry. Rapping is also an avenue that he can articulate his emotions and ideas in.
- Moon square Saturn: Due to growing up in harsh environments, Lamar was depressed. When the Moon is squared to Saturn we feel suppression of emotional connections in your earlier years. Lamar is also known to be quite reserved and private - he took a 5 year break from music.
- Jupiter in Aries: Jupiter expands anything it touches, while Aries is an energy of confidence, self-protection, anger, individuation, vitality, motivation, and fighting. Kendrick likes to challenge others and isn’t afraid to fight back: in 2013, his “Control” verse electrified the Hip-Hop community when he declared that he wanted to beat-out every other successful Rapper at the time; his verse on “Like That” revitalized diss-tracks this year; he just humiliated Drake in a series of diss-tracks.
Sun sextile Jupiter shows that he has an abundant amount of ego and self-confidence in himself - which is why he calls himself the goat.
