BOOM, have a random turtle person!!! (<- the guy thats my pfp) I cant think of a real name for them, kinda dont wanna name them, so theyve been given the nickname Jr for now <3 (NOT junior, just Jr like 'jay-arr' ykyk cuz im so creative /j)

I got carried away one night when i was googling turtles and i got struck with artistic inspiration to design something C: i discovered "Pastel" Red-Eared Sliders, and ohmygoshhhh they have really RLLY cool markings!?!? AND COLORS?! I couldnt resist the temptation to create a character with that inspo in mind! Ive been on a roll lately with concepts/ref sheets/designs sooooo, when art block hits? DESIGN SOMETHING!! The shade of green i used is probably too dark, but i just really liked that color and my brain wouldnt accept any other colors xd

The "red ear" stripe or whatever, WAS orange and i rlly like it... but after some debating and research i decided it made more sense to make it closer to an actual red (the orange is technically still accurate tho). The orange looked great and flowed real well but i couldnt help thinking it made them seem more like a yellow-bellied slider x red-ear combo of some kind when that is NOT what i wanted :C Its probably not obvious that theyre a pastel slider, but the face markings r the main indicator! From all of the images ive seen pastel sliders have way more complex/crazy facial stripes and i wanted to have smth like that (but seriously go google them the shell patterns blow my mind away).

At the time of posting this, ive got a massive canvas full of doodles of just- THIS guy lmao, and ive discovered theyre VERY fun to draw. And its an exiting new experience trying to figure out how to draw humanoid anatomy, ive discovered human shoulders are infact quite different to dragon ones and have a whole new set of rules when u draw em sjgfdjhhjdhjfss.

So, ig i have a tmnt character of my own now? 💀 i did not plan their existence (when i mean i spontaneously made them, i rlly mean i finished their design the same night i got inspired)... so, theyre just a guy for me to practice drawing humanoid anatomy with now.

Gonna make another ref sheet later but with some accessory options/apparel/clothes or whatever, they dont NEED those but i really want to practice drawing fabric (AND ITS FUN!!) its something i rarely draw and its probably a good idea to learn how.

If you guys want, I might draw some comics showing lore (I doubt it but I really want to) or maybe doing some dedicated posts to my listeners’ own lore and stuff? I can’t really promise that I would, because of my school work lol.

I also can’t promise that my lore will be as good as full novel series and all the audio rp accounts like GBA, Escaped audios, etc. So please forgive me if my lore is kinda…eh…if I ever come up with a fully fleshed out character with lore beyond the actual series.

ok i havent drawn a lot so ill do a big artdump of some stuff i abandoned or at the very least wont finish for a long while (id in alt and story/thoughts below the image)

In a server that I'm in, we briefly talked about Descole hypothetically returning in NWOS and somebody mentioned he should bring Keats along. Inspiration struck and I drew this. I was hoping I could use Blender to make the buildings and whatnot, but I was intimidated by the task and ultimately ended up dropping the entire thing.

The building that Keats and Descole are on is… Meant to be a rough placeholder, I didn't mind redoing the entire thing but I wanted to at least have a vague idea before the entire draft slipped from my mind.

Oh right the doodle uhh so I was thinking about them and just drew a hypothetical scene for funsies, it didn't happen in roleplay (and also because I wanted to draw paper mario without a reference and see where that went). It's an ex-villain and struggling hero dynamic and i love it sm

Segments of a comic I drew for a friend in a super silly AU with dante from the limbus company hand on hip . Id get super embarrassed if i shared the details of the au because we kinda said "fuck it we ball" and made up stuff that shouldn't work at all lol. It's also why there's no text in the speech bubbles.

But the general gist of why I drew this is because we kept discussing a scenario where Descole has to fix up something in Dante's clockhead (vaguely inspired by that april fools episode) and i had a strong vision ab the comic. Also I had to make their head in blender because i was struggling with the perspective and wanted a flexible reference. First time drawing something not made out of flesh fur or fabric!! had a blast rendering the fire and the shine though. SUPER fun super recommend

I just like this little doodle,,, the expression vaguely reminds me of a ghibli villain and it scratches my brain. im expecting him to move on twos at 24 fps very subtly at any moment now.

And finally... um... yeah. "draw a character in this pose" sort of beat. sometimes I alternate using the sketchbook and marker pens in firealpaca and this is one of my rare marker doodles. Also this is pretty old afaik but i still think about it sometimes

-BUCK! I still suck at drawing him but trying better. Also to explain the headcanon, yes I headcanon Buck as a cyborg (or i guess, Cogborg? lol). I think its because out of all the animal cogs Buck is the most colorful and a lot of his attacks are very much like toon gags? You have a drop gag (his gold bar) and toon up gag (his all 7s move). And I say that since it hits both cogs AND toons which is like a weird little gimmick? (im sure this is just because Buck's entire thing is gambling but still food for thought to me lol. ) But yeah! Buck has some parts cog parts and toon parts. His slot "eyes" are more like a glorified visor for him. He rarely takes off his visor tho (plus it’s lowkey painful for him to do it). Not a lot of cogs know either.

-Misty! She is my fav to draw still. And I love putting her in different cute little outfits. I love her, im gonna spoil her in cute outfits.

i drew that thinking about how roy feels responsible for everything she has been through, and yet riza still gives him another chance to fulfill his promise to make the world a better place and chooses to keep trusting him… he can’t make up for what he’s done, so he wants riza to never regret trusting him again. you know that scene in ishval when riza basically tells roy she’s responsible for what he’s done since she trusted him in the first place? if i were him hearing that would hurt way more than if she just shot me in the head LOL

so it might be delusional thinking but to me everything roy fights for leads back to riza. he wants to make things right for what it is but also because it’s what he’s promised her… so hearing from riza that she doesn’t regret trust him would mean that he’s finally doing things right :,) i would sob too

im happy you mentioned the fact it’s young riza in your tags, bc i felt it adds much more weight drawing this representation of her instead of any other, but i rarely see people commenting on it and i felt so proud of myself for that train of thought HAHA to finally fulfill the promise he made so long ago to that young and innocent riza who believed in his idealistic dreams enough to trust flame alchemy to him………..!!!

I really wish we knew under what circumstances Mustang left her after he deciphered flame alchemy. Now it just looks like he got what he wanted from her and then left. Roy said at the funeral he would do anything for his master. Berthold makes one request: look after Riza. And he just... doesn’t do that. What a bastard. 

Like he was so focused on his own quest for knowledge and power, that he did not see how he failed the person closest to him. He left her behind and did not use the alchemy how he promised. He couldn’t protect her from her father, not from herself and her choices, not from her becoming a murderer. Of course he will regret not doing more, and feels responsible for ruining her life. He even encouraged her to go down the same path by inspiring her. At least that is how I think Mustang may see it from his perspective?

It does makes sense that what he fights for leads back to her!!. His philosophy/goal is to protecting as much people as possible by protecting those closest to him, then they in turn protecting those close to them. And Hawkeye is the closest to him :) he would even give up everything just to protect her if he had to.

I love that you drew that piece with younger Riza, the person he failed the hardest, and future fuhrer Roy who has reached his goal. For him to hear he made that young Riza’s dream come true...... Your brain is massive.

how do you choose what art you reblog and like? i want to tag my art more effectively so it gets seen but no matter what i do it doesn't really work

Ngl though abt this one for a while.

I usually go through my dash and see what the mutuals are throwing around, but i do go through the tags every now and agin if i have the time. My schedule is crammed these past few months and for me to sit down and take the time to look up art is rare. But thats only me. I see people on here posting and rebloging new fantastic art everytime i log on.

Not that I’m an expert or smthn, but I do find that statistically my art does better when its posted alongside a story or my own thoughts and whatnot. And thats perfect for me cus i have too much lore stored in my shit doodles that getting it out and it being recieved well is a god damn miracle. I can do that less these days but regardless i find giving us the lore of the drawing and your hcs is the besstttt shitt. I know I love when a helltalia artis tdumps their (especially historical and related) hcs and stories with their art.

Everyone here has their niche and why they repost certain art types. I enjoy sorta semi relaistic art styles, historical/political integration of these characters, a good sad angsty hc/story etc…

I think the best way really is just finding your niche and working it through, developing your hcs, sharing them, interacting with people whose posts you really like… tags are good but i personaly dont really think you can rely on them. Maybe even reblog your own art every once in a while. You can also do that for it to be seen more.

But then again im not sure im the person to ask. I started drawing an posting n shit cus my brain was gonna explode if i didnt share it with someone and i didnt rlly care to tag it that well :/ maybe it does work and maybe it doesnt idk

Art thoughts

I rarely write my thoughts in social media. It's just something I don't like to do.

This is just a ramble that nobody cares about but I kinda need to talk about it in someway.

So, im an artist. I draw. I animate. I actually worked in a shortfilm that im really proud of! But must of the time I feel kinda useless. The short made me get better at drawing and stuff but I also think that it gave me some baggage that I just can't get through.

I don't usually draw in the style that we used for the short. In fact, I consider that I either don't have any style or that it is just wildly different to the one from the short. We worked on it for around 6 to 12 months. I was working everyday to try to get the best results that I could. I was happy and excited.

I now feel that I lost my way. I kinda cannot recognise myself in my art anymore. I try to doodle, I try to think about concepts or things that I would like to develop but when I get to it...It just isn't "enough". The drawing is sloppy, uninspired and I just can't continue working on it. So I abandon it.

I've been stuck on this cycle for quite some time and I just can't seem to get out of it. I have people tell me that I have a vision, that I have talent, yet I struggle so much. I cannot draw. Whenever I try to, I see the flaws, I don't know how to keep going...

I see my soulless doodles and I just see someone that doesn't know what kind of artistic direction must take. I don't mean a career. I mean when someone is instantly recognizable by their work. I see myself lack that. And even more. I see myself lacking everywhere. It has come to the point that even just starting to draw something that isn't "from the shortfilm" pains me. Emptiness. The desire to go back to when I could stand seeing my work.

I have so many ideas. My brain doesn't stop working. Yet I can't make them a reality. It is not only sad but pathetic. I don't know how to fix this. drawing for myself isn't bringing me joy and I just think that that is unforgivable. First of all art is always for the artist, after that, you may show it to an audience.

Since we started working on a new short, I've been feeling really down. I see my friends doing amazing stuff which shows how much they care about it and I just feel like an impostor. Someone that obeys orders and ocassionally pitches ideas. I can do the style of the film yet when I try to work on my own stuff, I don't know how to proceed. I am starting to doubt who I am artistically. The film is getting to me. I don't know my "style". I have been told several times that the style of drawing is something that comes to you with time. It isn't something that sould be forced. I do not mean that.

I mean the style that you recognize youself with. Sometimes I think that I just have grown to hate the way I used to draw, and now, when I work on personal stuff outside the film that I have to work on, I just instantly hate whatever im doing.

I've had an amazing year with outstanding opportunities given to me. I feel selfish for feeling this way. I wish that this tug on my heart would dissapear. that it would vanish. But im still here. Not knowing what to do. Not knowing how to get past through this.

I am envious. I am bitter. I hate seeing people enjoy their work in a way I can't. I wish everyone the best. Truly. But it still pains me. I hope this feeling will go away. I will try to find a solution to this.

But I am not sure how.

Truthfully, my biggest motivator is born of necessity these days. I create art because I have bills to pay and family to support. My patrons are a huge driving force in all this, cheering me on from the sidelines while I work; my band of blessed saviours.

I also make sure that my social feeds are full of artists I love, who make art that makes me happy. I'm always watching films and playing games, always constantly absorbing media in this wacky age of technology-infused information. Then if I'm lucky, I get the chance to step outside for a walk in the woods with my sibling to help ground ourselves in the world and reconnect with nature, pure medicine for the troubled soul.

All of these activities serve to stir the Brain Soup and sometimes reflect in my artwork. I rarely get struck with the "fabled bolt of inspiration" these days, but I blame the current climate. I did used to.

As some of you will already know because I'm being quite open about it this time, I'm currently battling the worst bout of burnout I've had in literal years. So really, I'm not sure I'm the best person to be asking on the topic of how to deal with it, but here you go:

In my experience it’s not the best idea to wait for inspiration to strike. Inspiration is unreliable, constantly waiting can leave you anxious, and also most of us just don’t have the luxury of being able to. I kinda think we just need to create despite it (or TO spite it, or in order to spite someone who told you you couldn't, if that's your sauce).

If you feel like your art sucks, instead of expecting perfection try just giving yourself permission to be bad at art for a while, you might be surprised about how much of a relief it feels. Make a hundred terrible little sketches, doodles, scribbles, or just make marks on paper. You don’t even have to show them to anyone, they can be just for your eyes! More often than not I’ve found that the physical act of creating artwork can genuinely inspire you to make more, and better work. It flexes those art muscles and gets the creative cogs whirring. Just make stuff!!!

As a person who’s had little choice but to create for years, it can be really helpful to push through it. Not always, though.

Sometimes the art block you’re staring down actually goes layers deep into the realms of debilitating mental health and poor living status, right into dangerous burnout and breakdown territory. Some would argue that creating art in times of real pain is the best medicine, and indeed, creates the best results. I wholly disagree.

My advice is to always make art in those moments when you can, even if it sucks. And when you just can’t, then rest. Watch your favourite guilty pleasure anime, cook some delicious food, hug your pets, go exist in nature for a bit. Have you ever seen Kiki’s Delivery Service? That!

Other more practical tips include:

If you struggle staying motivated, try to refocus by sitting down and asking yourself "What kind of art do I really want to create?” Try to rediscover what excites you! Is your aim to work in the art industry? To be able to draw your OCs smooching? Draw beefy bara men? Do you really just wanna paint cool rocks? All valid af

Pull up images of your favourite artworks and study them. Ask yourself “Why do I like this artwork?” Are the outfits really cool designs? Is the lineart super stylish? Do you love the way they used colours? After that, think about what you need to learn to get to that point yourself, and start small. Mimic your favourite artworks in order to learn how to do it.

Example: If you realise that you want to improve at drawing hands, just spend a week learning about them. Draw pages and pages of them, find a way to make them fun and sexy to draw! I did just that, and now hands are actually one of my favourite things to draw, it works.

Warm-ups are SO important. If you just started on a piece and already feel defeated, ask yourself “Did I warm up enough first?” You can try looping fifty quick spirals in different sizes with your pen, scratch out some box shapes, doodle some funky wiggly shapes, crosshatch them, whatever you want! Just get that hand moving before you leap into your artwork of choice, it helps to loosen up to keep your lines from becoming too stiff.

If it’s just not working today, that’s okay. Take a break by filtering your creativity into another entirely different creative pursuit. You could try baking something tasty, making music, writing for your next D&D campaign, building cute houses in minecraft or the sims, painting miniatures, crafting with paper or sewing fabric, etc etc. Anything that keeps the creative brain ticking that isn’t drawing is also worthwhile.

And, mentally:

Try not to worry about what other people think of your artwork. Doesn’t matter what age you are or your background, the fact you’ve created anything at all is incredible. You brought something into the world that didn’t exist before. You’re powerful as hell.

Related: please please please don’t focus on being “successful” on social media. Even though I know it can feel awesome to post your art and get instant reactions, these things are a death spiral of addictive behaviour and shouldn’t dictate your creativity. Use sparingly.

Remember that your kid self would absolutely be losing their mind over the cool stuff you’ve made now. Same goes for your ancient ancestors who used to make those little clay animals. You’re doing great, be proud.

Don’t be so damn hard on yourself. I mean it <3

If you keep drawing you will improve. You will get your motivation back. You will make art again even if it takes you a while. And know that a muffin is cheering for you c:
