Call My Bluff
He wasn't supposed to get attached...and you weren't supposed to be the one leaving
Alhaitham × GN! Reader
Warning: Angst
Tumblr media
He'd always considered you a reliable partner, someone convenient to have around as much as possible. He simply hadn't considered that your reasons for proving your usefulness would be to catch his eye, hence the surprise at your confession. Alhaitham has always been a person driven by logic, and he knew this would be a pivotal moment in your relationship, a point of no return. So he lied. He lied because he didn't want to lose the one companion he had grown to appreciate.
"Let's date then, because I like you too."
He didn't. He couldn't imagine falling for you and letting himself act the way he'd seen so many fools in love did. But he could put on an act for you, just until he got all the help he needed from you. And so he would. He'd hold your hand when no one was around, and you let him keep you like a secret while you kept him like an oath. He'd smile at you, never closing his eyes fully so he could enjoy seeing the effect it had on you. All just so he'd know exactly what he had to do to keep you wrapped around his finger without letting you get too close to him.
How unfortunate that he hadn't considered the shallowness of it all would be the thing that drove you away. Even more so when it was the loss of you that helped him realise his own feelings.
Slowly, you could feel your love running dry, unable to love someone you barely even knew. You hated yourself for it, wondering if you just weren't tyring hard enough because he seemed to know everything to do to get your heart to flutter, but you never could return the favour. Still, you stuck around, hoping you could salvage it.
Yet there he was, oblivious to your efforts. "I never thought I'd see the day anyone could put up with you enough to date you let alone see you equally smitten," Kaveh scoffed, still in disbelief despite how you had been dating his roommate for a good month by then. Alhaitham scoffed at the notion. Him? Smitten with you? He doubted it, but as ridiculous as it seemed, he couldn't shake away the thought entirely, leaving it to fester and grow at the back of his mind. And grow it did, until he began thinking of you randomly, remembering things you mentioned in passing and missing you when you were gone. It was strange, so he started to randomly distance himself from you at times if only to see how he'd feel about it.
You felt bad for considering breaking things off with him, especially since you'd asked him first. He's never been known to be the affectionate sort, so really, what else were you expecting? Perhaps you truly had just been viewing him through rose-tinted lens because when you were closer to him than ever before, he'd somehow felt even more distant. So, ever so hesitantly, you approached him. He'd prefer if you cut to the chase, right?
And for the first time, Alhaitham knows he's messed up, he knows he was dreadfully, catastrophically wrong. He'd been looking forward to seeing you, having grown accustomed to always having you smiling softly when you were around him, like there was nowhere else you'd rather be. It felt nice to feel so wanted, and he had come to want you too. So why was it that the first words that left your lips - the same lips he regrets not kissing with a more tender care - a goodbye and an apology? Where was the devoted smile and unfaltering adoration in your eyes?
"I think you meant to say hello?"
If he'd let you know him just a little better, you would've been able to catch on to the subtle waver in his tone which he tried so hard to keep in his usual apathetic manner. But he hadn't, and there you were, laying your heart bare to him for the last time, confessing how difficult it had been for you because of him all while never actually blaming him, as though you didn't want to tarnish the image you had as your final memory of him. And for once he had nothing to say, his mouth running dry.
Alhaitham would've preferred if you'd blamed him and demanded he grovel. He would've preferred if you expected him to beg to make amends. Would it be too late for him to get on his knees and plead for you to stay? He felt stupid, having such pathetic thoughts for someone about to turn their back on him, and though he couldn't understand it, he was sure he'd regret if he didn't.
Yet he couldn't.
"Alhaitham, could you...I don't want to ask for too much, so feel free to decline, but could you kiss me one last time? So I can have a final happy memory with you..."
He wanted to say no, to tell you he wasn't going to let you go just yet, and that he could fix it...but he couldn't, not when you looked so hurt. It would be too selfish of him to ask for your trust when he'd already betrayed it so ruthlessly. So he kissed you. He kissed you like it was his dying breath, as though the light in his world were fading and you'd disappear the moment he could no longer feel your lips on his. He kissed you with one hand on your cheek, caressing it like you were all he ever wanted, and his other hand at the back of your head, keeping your from pulling away.
He kissed you with fervour, as the hand on your cheek trailed down - never once leaving your person - and came down to hold your hand. He hoped it was enough to show you.
But Alhaitham had always been a convincing actor, so who were you to believe any of his passion if he had been unable to show it in the months you'd been together?

Hey so I had a question and am wondering if you want to answer it because for a sns shipper you’re tolerable not to be mean. Yep I don’t ship sns I like nh together so if you wanna ignore this then that’s fine I don’t really care but what sns shippers always forget is that interpretation is the only thing that matters. I like nh so what? I think they were built well and make sense but that’s not going to make me not a shipper. You guys come up with all these theories that don’t make sense and I don’t like sns and that is my interpretation and that doesn’t make anyone wrong because you have no say in how I should think and feel. So this literally debunks y’all sorry. I still really like your art and some meta if it’s not about sns. Cheers.
Hi, glad to know that I’m tolerable lol. Very interesting.
It seems like you anticipated the possibility of being ignored because we have opposing views on the matter which you’re already aware of, but I wouldn’t ignore you simply because you ‘ship’ something other than me. (Though I’d rather just call myself a fan in the context of SNS.) In fact, you’re always free to challenge anything you want, it’s fun for me and perhaps even informative for us both.
Anyway-
You say;
Interpretation is all that matters
You interpret NH to make sense and well built(/developed)
Your interpretation is right because it’s how you think and feel
You conclude;
Because interpretation is all that matters, your interpretation debunks us all (I guess you mean SNS-fans and the theories that support them)
Ngl, that’s an extremely weak argument (if you can even call it that) 😬 but let’s talk about ‘interpretation’.
Interpretation by nature is subjective.
It’s important for sure, it matters in the sense that your personal perspective helps you determine whether you like/dislike something because your preferences would have no foundation otherwise.
It’s impossible for an interpretation to be ‘wrong’ in a general sense because it’s something that happens naturally when you engage with any creative expression. You observe something, your brain frames the thing, then you attach personal meaning behind it and of course it’s okay to experience anything however you do, because that’s a natural response and different for everyone.
So, in regard to your criticism, I don’t think anyone meant how you think/feel about an experience is ‘wrong’ or makes your interpretation ‘wrong’.
But, using this as a reason to ‘debunk’ us all, makes your logic a fallacy. In other words, I disagree with you. Interpretation is certainly not the only thing that matters here.
Interpretation can change in different cultural contexts, it may require references from other work and sometimes it is so ambiguous to the point where it is even necessary for a reader to draw a conclusion themselves based on the context when it’s not literally ‘there’. A lot of subtext provides the opportunity to delve deeper to see whether your initial interpretation is supported by the narrative or not.
The whole purpose of interpretation in a literary analysis (because that’s what’s important here) is to explain the interpretation and make sense out of the meaning to then determine whether it is valid in the context of a narrative.
In the sense of literary interpretation, there are ways to prove whether an interpretation is correct or not. It is a misinterpretation when you misconstrue the meaning (or any other of the endless elements) behind a story. And thus, theories are made to question and challenge an interpretation/claim/argument etc- which is what SNS fans imo do really well generally.
And that’s why ‘interpretation’ by itself isn’t the only thing that matters when analyzing because it doesn’t prove anything, and 'the thing' doesn't care about your damn feelings nor is it ever really relevant when analyzing. Claiming your framing does prove it all is such a disrespectful way of looking at the literary work. The nature and meaning behind Naruto and Sasuke’s bond requires (and deserves) further analysis and taking a deep dive towards Kishimoto’s intentions, especially after such a random ending and a horrible, misaligned sequel. There are well-supported arguments which rely on evidence based on a (,or THE one and only~) primary source. (The Manga.) Every ‘meta’ is a case-by-case matter of course and I don’t always agree with them either, but analyzing does require a lot of critical thinking and I have admiration for the people who do so/can.
You can strengthen your argument by analyzing how your interpretation debunks SNS-theories and, in the context of the story, (the primary source) why NH is developed well and makes sense. Though I get the shortcut, it seems completely impossible to do and too much of a task, but feel free to try anyway :)!

Frankly, I've always found it strange, myself included, why Levi never mentions Isabel and Farlan. For example we don't even see them in the flashbacks where he remembers his comrades. But if I had to think of the most logical reason I could think of, it's more likely that it's because they're not characters of Yams own creation. No Regrets is a script that Yams commissioned someone else to write for the Levi background, a spinoff that was not written by Isayama himself, and the characters there are not Yams characters, except for Levi and Yams characters.
In one of the interviews I read about No regrets, I read that Isayama wanted this story to be written/drawn because he wanted a spinoff that was more about how Levi joined Survey corps. That's exactly what it is, if I remember what was written correctly. Maybe you've seen it too. My point is this, Perhaps the reason Isayama never mentions Farlan and Isabel in his own story is because they are not his characters, but also because both Farlan and Isabel and No Regrets itself, are more of background tools on how Levi joined Sc.
Hi! How are you?
Yeah, I think that's a very possible and logical answer. I would 100% believe that would be the reason if other characters were mentioned more frequently. I would be like, "Why does Levi constantly talk or think in this or that character and not Farlan and Isabel?" But overall, I still kinda stick to my idea that we hardly even see any other "remarkable" characters as "flashbacks" from the veterans, and we never hear even Levi mention them. Not just Levi; almost all the characters do not mention other characters overall.
I dare to say that's mostly an "economical" situation. Probably Isayama wasn't allowed to have any extra scenes or do "fill up" chapters to showcase other characters talking about their lives, their thoughts, etc. Like, as an example, I can't recall a single chapter in the manga or anime where Erwin talks about Mike, for example, and it's well-known that they were very close. Hange is the same. I hardly think that Levi or anyone actually actively thinks or mentions other characters in the story unless it's an "emotional or plot-wise" moment, like recalling fallen comrades, like Marco, etc.
I think that was mostly my point of view on the issue. Levi doesn't think about Farlan or Isabel, but because Levi or any other SNK character thinks or mentions other characters beside strict plot-wise necessity, and it's obvious that Farlan and Isabel aren't "plot-wise" necessities. I personally think that most of the "relationships" between characters can be "assumed" by how they interact in "spin-offs" like chibis and "junior high." I think they serve a bit to fill up that void with also the "game's extras stories etc."
Which, and this is already me rambling, I had always found it strange that it's showcased in official art, chibis, junior high, etc., that the veterans were rather close, but during the Uprising Arc, Levi mentions Kenny to Hange and they knew absolutely nothing about him. I think it would have been a nice touch, not only for Hange but for any "veteran," if Levi decided to be "100% honest" about his childhood, like telling being raised by Kenny, they could act like, "You mentioned before a bit about it but I never imagined you were talking about Kenny the ripper." A sort of "oh, you told us a bit about your past but never in detail and now that's plot-wise important, we get the details, we understand it a bit more because we are close to you than the rest but that 'extra information' isn't important enough for the reader to be aware of it but my knowledge about it showcases my closeness to you" sort of thing? I don't know if that makes sense; that's what I mean that for me Isayama lacks a bit in the writing relationship departments because those little details are so subtle but mean so much.
Anyways, the good thing is that we can fill that void with fanfics!

Te as a base (1st) function (LIE and LSE)
Extroverted logic as base function is manifested as a need to accumulate factual information, also from external sources such as books, second-hand information, etc, on matters of personal interest or of professional activity. This also gives these types confidence on being well-informed on the same matters, which enables them to enter arguments related to them with confidence on their knowledge, which may come across as arrogance to others. Another manifestation is an evaluation of external reality - work activities, world events, finances, procedures, personal relationships, conversations - from the point of view of factual accuracy and “making sense” and efficiency. It leads to an inclination to be proactive in increasing the efficiency and reasonableness of the external world, as well as a sense of self-worth connected on being involved and productive in activities seen as useful, profitable, or that increase one’s knowledge base. To give out information that the individual knows not to be factually accurate is disturbing and avoided as much as possible.
Te as a creative (2nd) function (ILI and SLI)
It is manifested as a preference for factual accuracy over ideological consistency, and for objective, “harsh” communication over careful words that avoid a negative atmosphere. A view of the external environment being efficient, reasonable, and making sense is essential to their well-being and sense of inner peace, but they do not feel a pressing need for being proactive or productive themselves in that area.
Te as a role (3rd) function (ESE and EIE)
It is manifested as a need to appear efficient, productive and knowledgeable in their endeavours, as long as that does not conflict with priorities set up by their base function, extroverted feeling. For instance, they may end up defending a decision or action that is not the most efficient but it is the one they see as most desirable in order to achieve or maintain the emotional atmosphere they are aiming at (for instance, not be seen as hostile to a given person or group).
Te as a vulnerable (4th) function (SEI and IEI)
That is manifested as a skepticism and dislike for basing your beliefs, arguments, and actions on external sources of information. For instance, a SEI will rather trust the expertise of someone who seems to have hands-on experience, even if limited, than of someone who demonstrates to have read many books on the same subject. IEIs will base their opinions and views on their own personal insights and be, again, skeptical of “second-hand” factual information that contradicts it. “Don’t trust everything you read” is a typical sneer of this function, especially when applied to sources of information otherwise seen as neutral and reliable, such as encyclopedias and handbooks. Another manifestation is a dislike for dealing with issues involving efficiency, productivity, and factual accuracy of statements made; statements are made according to input from other functions, not from double-checks against external facts which are seen as of lesser relevance to the issue at hand. Types with this function lack confidence in their ability to find relevant information in outside sources.
Te as a suggestive (5th) function (ESI and EII)
The individual is attracted to people seen as knowledgeable, as well as truthful and willing to share that knowledge, in matters seen as interesting and useful to the individual towards achieving productivity and efficiency. Reliable information rather than the finished analysis is what attracts the individual; facts and explanations, not answers limited to the conclusions. For the same reason, the individual avoids people who are inclined to give out unreliable or simply untruthful information.
The individual tends to neglect to think about the productivity of his actions and unconsciously relies on others to give him directions and advice about the best, most productive ways of doing things. He has difficulties measuring how much work he has done, whether it is sufficient, and how much it is actually worth. The individual admires people who are aware of the productivity of their actions and are always trying to do something rational and worthwhile.
Te as a mobilizing (6th) function (SEE and IEE)
The individual is keen on accumulating factual knowledge on subjects of personal interest and those that help him be more efficient and productive, but he’s often unsure of his ability to find and select the correct information and is therefore attracted to people whom he sees as competent in that area and reassure him.
Te as an ignoring (7th) function (LII and LSI)
The individual is adept at finding external sources of factual information and confident in his ability to evaluate their value, but regards collecting data as secondary to making them fit into a consistent logical system. To him, listing facts without analyzing their relationships is a trivial and boring exercise. He values efficiency and productivity but is skeptical that they will be achieved if one’s actions and process do not follow a clear procedure.
Te as a demonstrative (8th) function (ILE and SLE)
The individual is adept at recognizing which aspects of an information, statement, or action are factually accurate in the sense of checking them against available external sources of information, but he tends to see this as lesser importance in comparison to their internal logical consistency when pursuing a concept fed by Symbol i.gif or Symbol f.gif. To focus on the facts, also when giving out information, is seen as rather pointless when there is an Symbol i.gif idea to be explored or a Symbol f.gif power to be gained.

But the only times he's intentionally rough with him is to keep him out of imminent danger. *** You like, can’t write this and leave us hanging 👀 jk, but it definitely got my attention. Could we get a scene where Daniel is oblivious to the danger and Terry nearly loses it or something? Because losing Daniel is a fate worse than death…
“What's going on?”
His Danny's earnest little frown. He doesn't often ask him that, little as he wants to know about business. The fact that's actually a boon most of the time has eluded Terry till now.
“Amanda called,” he says, looking about the terrace they're sitting on. “She said there may be rivals coming in.”
He takes it lightly. “Michael would know that,” he says. “If there were anything to warn me about, he would have told me.”
That sweet innocence. “Darlin'. How likely do you think it is, for your brother to come to my aid?”
Danny blinks. “Don't you know that's an insult or do you simply like doing it?”
He smiles. “Danny. Of course you love them, but that doesn't change the facts.”
His mate pouts. “And whose fault is that? It's not like they're not trying.”
Terry sits up. “Trying what?”
“They come round, don't they? Louie, Michael and Nessa? And my Ma? You only ever visit us when you can't not, and then you hardly talk.”
He shakes his head. “I don't speak Calabrian, or Sicilian or whatever it is you talk -”
“Terry, per Dio, neither do I! They'd speak English if you'd try it sometime!”
He smiles. “I think the Don would rather cuddle a viper.”
“Because you act as if he owes you something.”
He looks at him intently, but doesn't speak.
“You wanted money, you accepted marriage.”
“And what comes with it, Danny, love.”
“A whole lot of obligations, none of which you even try to honor.” He shakes his head. “Forget it.”
“No, no!” He reaches over the table for Danny's hands, and his mate lets him after a slight startle. “Why don't you talk to me like this anymore, mo cuishle?”
He looks away. “The food'll be here soon.”
He tries to make his voice as soft as possible. “Tell me?”
Suddenly his mate's eyes dart away, to a man walking very forcefully through the crowd, dressed as any other villager- Terry may have even seen this one around, smoking and drinking with his friends. Terry always gets the measure of other Alphas, force of habit – especially the women here are always armed, whether with a hunting rifle or one of those quick daggers. The men too are much opener about it than in NYC may be considered proper. Still, they play legions of games, Sicilians, but rarely about this. That's why none of them as ever approached him or Danny other than in a friendly spirit. This is not a friendly spirit.
He scans the terrain. Feck it, Danny wanted 'a good view', they're as far out as possible on here; in fact, few of the neighboring tables are even occupied.
He tightens his grip, pulls his mate up. “Inside, now,” he whispers, shielding him from view as much as he's able. That should clue at least some of the Alphas around in, but nobody moves. So much for that famed LaRusso protection!
“You're hurting-"
“Behind me!”
Why is nobody doing anything? He can see one or two younger women itching, but they're held back, even Danny is fighting, he will throw him over his shoulder, what the –
“LaRusso?” the stranger barks.
And then Danny does the stupidest thing he could ever do, and answers: “Certo, perché –?”
Strange thing is, the Alpha man seems to hesitate, which is the first logical thing about any of this so far. But then he tries to dart around Terry, straight for Daniel, and Jaysis, Mary and Joseph, Terry has been itching for a fight. Begging for one. And the man's a right eejit about it, but Daniel doesn't do anything Terry's taught him, why is he not hiding, where is his pistol, never mind, Terry slams the Italian right down. It's a fucking release is what it is, he could snap him like those grissini he's never seen the point of, but Danny's still here, someone could take him in the mêlee, “Back, get back!” he shouts, and Danny's terrified, he can smell it, and even that other Alpha reeks of desperation, as well he should, what is this, who does he work for, he puts a foot on the man's neck, reaches for his gun –
“Stop!” Daniel calls. “Terry!”
And he darts around for an instant, how could he not, and Daniel runs forward, so he has to kick him back, God forgive him, but why is he being so stupid...?
“Wait!” his mate calls again, as he clambers up (praise God someone caught him) and then: “Vitelli?”
And the other Alpha is making what little sound he can, and the crowd is smiling, what are they smiling about, and Daniel shouts that it's OK, and how could this ever be OK, and now the villagers are coming for him, and –
Daniel's hugging him from behind. “Sh, Terry,” he whispers. “Sh.”
And then his legs simply give out.
He still bodily cradles his mate away, but everyone is cheering, what are they cheering about, but his Danny, oh, his sweetheart, he's never letting go, and Daniel cuddles in, and he can feel his sweet boy's breath on his face for the first time in weeks and he thinks he's crying again. “Terry, you've done well, it's over, help me up, please?” And others are cheering that Alpha, and now helping them both and that man, Vitelli, is massaging his neck and looking at him as if to say: “Really?” but doesn't. And Daniel sticks out his hand and no way that is going to happen but he hears “it's good, he's with us” and no he's not. Luckily the man knows what's good for him because he doesn't move in, so Daniel bows and gives his name as “Daniele LaRusso,” which it feckin isn't but this seems to be the day Terry's having. “Il mio marito, Terry Silver,” and of course that man knows who he is because everyone here knows who he is and Terry really needs a drink right now. The cafe owner is clapping him and he accepts whatever drink is put in his hand. Daniel is grinning from ear to ear and rubbing his back and saying “He's quick, Michael,” and if that lowlife has anything to do with this...?
“My brother wants to court a local girl,” Daniel says. “And he's beta, so it's a bit more complicated, they need a sense of the family Alphas, but now, with you here, I think that's OK.”
“Huh?” It's not his most dignified reply, but Daniel is not making any sense.
“The Vitellis want to show that they're willing to defend their omegas, Terry, and they need to see what happens if someone threatens a LaRusso one. Specifically, what our Alphas would do. And there's many ways to test this, but this is the old fashioned way.”
He coughs. “I would have killed him!”
“I didn't think he'd move in tonight,” Daniel says. “I merely wanted to signal that we're available, so to speak, but it can happen at any time.”
“Doesn't negate my killing him!”
“Yeah, sorry about that,” Daniel says. “Needed to distract you a bit. But don't worry, Vincenzo here will be the talk of the town, it takes a lot to take someone like you on.”
He touches his face. “I hurt you...”
A spasm goes through him. “Not tonight.” They're bringing more drinks, but Daniel shakes his head. “I think we'd better go inside,” he says.
And now Terry does sling him over his shoulder, to much cheering, and he carries him like that all the way to their front door. “Serves you right,” is the only reply he makes to Daniel's ever more frenzied protestations.
Inside, Daniel starts dragging out suitcases.
“Stop that,” Terry says. “You're hurt.”
Daniel shrugs. “Forget about it.”
“That's not an answer.”
He stands still, shrugs again. “You went kind of hard on that Vitelli,” he says. “Maybe that he's wanting retribution, and if that happens, we'd better not be here. So, Ireland?”

what are some of your favorite stories! yours, other people's, small, big, etc! that's probably a big thing to think about so if you want something specific ummm recommend me a writer or three!
man!!! okay excellent question. i think ill still do three but ill talk about different things with each one; bear in mind that this is like, off the top of my head, so its not Definitive (ill try to sneak em in as honorable mentions but even stuff with a huge impact on me is gonna be harder to think of/talk about if it was like ten years ago, yknow?)
oh, and if you want to read my stories, you can see those here =3c
Kill Six Billion Demons
this one probably has to be The Bar for quality in my mind, at least at the moment.
82 White Chain Born In Emptiness Returns To Subdue Evil (yes, full name) has maybe one of the most compelling character arcs i've ever read;
the art is stunning, and the worldbuilding incredibly thorough (in a way that makes the history of the world feel dynamic and relevant, rather than just being tons of lore to sift through);
the fights whip ass and the logic of the cool shit that the characters do is directly tied to the underlying view the story has about Power™, which directly influenced my thought process for a lot of the plot details of "Dawnsister";
and, sort of related to the two previous points, the entire thing is just so fucking coherent, thematically speaking. all the side stories and bits of hover text, all the bits of commentary and passages from fictional manuscripts in the image descriptions, weave together and do some really good allegorical storytelling for the messages Abaddon wants to send (and to underline/counterpoint whats happening in the comic itself), and the details tend to come back later to be relevant in a big way
its just. high marks on literally every metric i can think of. this is the kind of "every line (both kinds) is crammed with intent and nothing is wasted" stuff i wanna do with my writing
(honorable mention for this category: Everything Everywhere All At Once, for sheer quality of writing and similar levels of "god they planned this from the fucking start". one of the only films to make me cry)
Homestuck (im not linking it we all know this one)
i have less to say about this, but i think its one of the stories that's had the biggest stylistic impact on my writing. i was kind of doing it even before reading homestuck but it SUPER cemented it: the 2nd-person voice and the fuckery where a character's thoughts, the narrator's description of a scene, and instructions from the audience/in-universe sources of Brain Interference all blend together is something i keep coming back to in both 3rd-person limited perspective AND 2nd-person (typically transformation-related) work
it also takes all the "using every possible avenue for Additional Storytelling" thing that i was describing about KSBD and ratchets it the fuck up. like this comic is repeatedly the benchmark for "what kind of weird, media-mixing, format-breaking shit can i do with comic panels and text rendering", even if i dont plan to dabble in webpage shenanigans like Hussie did
(i cant think of an honorable mention here, but i liked the way Tyranny presented lore and history to you in hyperlinks in the text, so that you could just HAVE background information your character would have instead of having to Do Exposition. also check out Vast Error if you liked the shit homestuck was doing with multimedia storytelling)
Ascension: Tales of Twin Tails
this one is just one of my favorites. out of this list its for sure been the most impactful on me personally, in like an identity sense at least. this shit transed my gender and othered my kin. its one of the only OTHER pieces of media to ever make me teary-eyed. its about being transgender extremely literally but also in some really creative And Also Extremely Dope ways
the fight scenes are about as grand in scope as the ones in KSBD, and the way that magic works in the setting is just about as thematically-strong (and also offer lots of room for insight about the characters, as well as self-reflection for the reader to have fun with).
the relationships are really, really well-done, and there are scenes that stick with me two years later as just strikingly and stunningly tender and intimate and vulnerable; the characters are just as strong (Coyotl is like, Top Three with White Chain, and if you know anything about me at all you know that Cat Kitten became my entire identity for months after reading it)
read it please read it i will evangelize this novel until the end of time
(honorable mention as far as having an effect on Me As A Person is probably like..... Night in the Woods; super super natural dialogue, lots of compelling relationship turmoil and hit some fears that were Extremely Relevant to me at the time of my life that i played it)
ty for asking btw!! i hope you get around to enjoying one of these =^w^=

What if 'Gundam SEED' was told from Flay's point of view? How would they approach it? Would it have been better?
For a long time, watching Gundam SEED, I would have said Flay was the most interesting character so I understand the appeal. 'X manipulates Y to exact revenge for Z while simultaneously being what Y needs in the moment and using this to avoid dealing with their own grief, fear and bigotry' is definitely a meaty premise.
However, this is also very clearly not the story SEED was interested in telling.
SEED is fundamentally about Kira and Athrun, and when I say 'fundamentally', I mean the show commits to the day being saved by two blokes in magic space robots who successfully blow up various bits of evil technology and/or bad guys because they're just that special. And to my mind, it's with this notion of 'special' that SEED's underlying flaw lies.
See, the Coordinators are definitively special. Textually, they can do things other humans cannot. We are told (and shown) that people are scared of them as a result. Yet this and Kira's struggles to be defined beyond his genes are obviously poor analogies for any real-world prejudice. It's 'being bullied for being smarter than everyone' logic, rather than how oppression or ethnic conflict actually work.
Basically, it's the X-Men. Hated and feared for being the brilliant ones, why oh why can't we just be treated as people.
Now, I like the X-Men. Always have. It's just, once you commit to inherent genetic 'specialness' of any kind, you back into a corner from which it is extremely hard to extricate yourself. Despite its token protests about Coordinators still needing to train, SEED presents a world where some people are just better. It embraces the idea of functional eugenics. There's nothing here of the nuance allowed by 'new-types' being analogous to new ways of thinking that emerge naturally from a changing world and are subverted or maximised by people who want to control the future. Nor does SEED turn around, as Gundam X did, and saying, nah, you're all random quirks of nature and/or incredibly lucky.
Eugenics is the explanation for why Kira is special. Someone literally bred a super-protagonist. That is a thing that is possible in this world.
So is Flay therefore right to fear the Coordinators?
Even as it presents her hatred and anger towards them as a flaw, SEED allows the possibility that the answer is 'yes'. Because it is reasonable to be wary of those who hold power over you, and the Coordinators come with power built in. Which is an exact inversion of the ways prejudice ascribes particular malevolence to groups who are, in fact, more vulnerable than people holding the prejudice.
I think a story centred on Flay over Kira would automatically be more interesting. If that's the criteria for 'better' then I must answer your question in the affirmative, straight up. The thing is, given all of the above, I can't in good conscience say it would address the stuff I don't like about what SEED is saying. As much as there are stories I love whose politics and worldview are quite at odds with my personal beliefs (currently delighted by Dracula, adore The Man Who Was Thursday, etc), I draw the line at centering lazy misconceptions about bigotry and oppression. And you would need to centre those things if you spent more time with Flay because, within the confines of what is presented in SEED as it stands, they form a significant part of her character.
If you were to take out the whole concept of the Coordinators and simply make Kira a talented member of some group responsible for killing Flay's dad, then tell the story of how she uses him as her instrument of vengeance before growing as a person and confronting the fact Kira is a person too? Sounds like a fantastic set-up with which you could do some very entertaining, very messed-up stuff.
That, however, essentially brings us back to my one big idea for improving SEED which is this: rip it up and start again.

"Perhaps if you'd come to me with your suspicions rather than take matters into your own hands, we could've worked together."
Principal Weems, episode 8
Not a lot really bothers me about this series, but this comment in particular does.
Now, in the context of the scene, the comment itself is perfectly reasonable. Because despite what she was trying to achieve, Wednesday's actions were out of line.
But also...Weems hasn't really given many reasons for Wednesday to discuss her suspicions with her.
Pretty much every time in the series Wednesday tried to discuss something related to the mystery with Weems, she either brushed her off, acted needlessly cryptic or (regarding the incident earlier on in the series with Rowan) made her out to be a liar.
And I get it. Given her position, there's not a whole lot Weems can do without solid proof to back up whatever actions she takes in case anyone asks (and not many people would accept "visions" as sufficient evidence), plus she has to think about the safety of the students and staff. So her reluctance is understandable.
But even if she wasn't dealing with an Addams (because regular logic goes out the window where that family's concerned) if you brush someone off enough times, or make them out to be a liar, they will hesitate to come to you with their problems (if they don't stop entirely).
Weems says "we could've worked together" as though she'd showed any signs of taking the concerns Wednesday mentioned earlier seriously. The only things she really seemed to pick up on were 1) Wednesday was breaking rules, and 2) Some students were being endangered.
Don't get me wrong, both of these are valid issues. Rules exist for a reason, and - as the principal - the safety of her students should always come first. But the fact of the matter is, Weems was being told about things that could endanger even more of her students (the earliest of which included a death that she covered up) and she seemingly did nothing.
Even if the claims were false, surely it would've made more sense to at least look into it.
At this point in the series, Wednesday had no reason to trust that Weems would even take her seriously, never mind trust that she'd actually do anything about it.
The series is almost 100% from Wednesday's point of view, so it's possible that she did some digging that we just didn't see. But the fact of the matter is, as far as Wednesday was probably concerned, Weems wouldn't listen.
Again, I'd like to stress that I'm not trying to excuse what Wednesday did in the scene before this one, and I'm not trying to say that Weems was wrong to be annoyed because - again - without any actual evidence there's probably not a lot she can do.
But that particular comment bugs me.

birth chart reading for @moonriseblueeyes
hello! welcome to your reading. l'm gonna give you a quick overview of what l'm going to analyze about your natal chart. feel free to ask me anything if something isn't clear, of course. you'll find out your dominants' influence on your persona, your physical appearance, impression on others and the way you approach the world; your ego, identity, the real you; your reactions, your desires, inner emotions; your way of expressing your feelings, your mind and ideas; your desires and approach to love; your energy tank, instincts and temperament; in-depth analysis of each house with their rulers and analysis of heavy aspects; love life + soulmates/karmic partners interpretation; your relationship with your friends; your family life; your approach to career and work in general + possible jobs suggestion; your style, fashion sense analysis; life purpose and past life description; basic transits' analysis to describe your current mood and, last but not least, your secret skills, how to make the most out of your soul and manifest what you desire based on your birth chart.
🦋 chart shape, dominants
your chart is a locomotive shape. this means that you're a very ambitious person, with a lot of energy. jupiter has a big influence on you, and your life revolves around travelling, acquiring knowledge and fulfilling your ambitions. the empty part of your life is what you have to develop, hence your social, financial life, your self-esteem, mental health and also your communication and thinking style.
your dominant planets are mercury, the moon and the sun. you're probably very smart and witty, you know how to make your way through things, you have great problem-solving skills. you're creative, artistic and sensitive, yet you're also ambitious and adventureous, you're not afraid of fighting for what you believe. you're also very outgoing and sociable, you probably make friends easily as you seem very easy to approach.
your dominant sign is aquarius. you're eccentric and rebel, you don't like being told what to do. you're very considerate of others, as you focus more on the development of a group rather than your persona. that's because you want the people you frequent to be as open-minded as you are. aquarius people are capable of elaborating different ideas in a short amount of time; hence, you either overwork yourself, or you're not able to keep up with all your ideas, leaving projects unfinished.
your dominant element is air. in your life, you adore seeking knowledge of any kind. you may be interested in studying different subjects, from those you study at school like science, maths, literature etc. to more unconventional ones, such as astrology, psychology, criminology and so on. you enjoy interacting with people; even if you’re not that sociable, you’ll still be interested in their point of view and their ideals, as you see it as a way to expand your own mind. you’re also interested in vintage, and you may have a retro aesthetic or just like history in general.
🌎 ascendant in virgo, 18° / 2nd decan ruled by mercury and saturn
you have a practical approach to the world. you’re kind of logical, it’s hard for you to improvize. you always want to keep everything neat and organized, at least in your mind. you could have a natural coldness to your face. you may seem younger than you are, but still very mature and responsible. with your attentive eyes, you pay attention to every single detail you see. you’re a perfectionist, and you always want and try to be at your best state. I would say you’re quite competitive when it comes to your goals, but you don’t really do it to be above others. you do it because your obsession for details kind of stresses you out. improving and proving yourself is a way to boost your self-esteem, you feel fulfilled when you can achieve your goals. you are extremely intelligent and logical, you’re always up for a deep talk or simply for an occasion to gain more knowledge. you like being smart, you always want to know about everything. even the latest, trendy meme counts for you. your nature is very cautious; you’re rarely impulsive, you always think deeply about your decisions, as you don’t want to make any mistakes. because of that, you can be particularly picky. not only with material things such as movies, books, food etc. but even with people. it’s hard for you to open up to someone you don’t know at all. you take things slow, both in friendships and in relationships, just to preserve yourself. you may come off as kind of snobby, but you’re just misunderstood. you don’t like flaky bonds, you need security in your life. physically, as I’ve already mentioned before, you have this kind of strict look on your face. your eyes may be almond-shaped, and you could have a natural feline gaze. overall, you have something smaller about your features; you could have thin lips, a small nose, small eyes… you could have a smaller frame with thin bones, and you don’t gain weight easily. you may be of average height, and I’ve noticed that most virgos tend to have pretty long legs? no matter if they’re tall or not, their legs will still be longer than their bust.
virgo ascendant square sagittarius pluto: you're aware that the world is too nasty for your honesty, hence you may have trust issues. even though you are friendly, you're very picky about who you decide to actually call your friend. you may constantly feel lonely, as if no one were willing to listen and understand you. you live with the fear that others may take advantage of you, hence you end up doing it yourself, unconsciously. you may be controlling, but your chart hints that it's not too much of a big deal. you may have the tendency to do it sometimes, but it's mostly a bad trait of your past life. the universe is testing you to see if you've learned your lesson or not. you have all the skills to avoid this type of behaviour now that you're aware of it.
🌞 sun in aquarius, 19° / 2nd decan ruled by uranus and mercury
this is the most intelligent aquarius decan. even though you may face some insecurities, you’re typically a strong-minded person. you strive for independence, as you focus your existence on your witty intellect. you have the ability to achieve great things, as your mind is literally revolutionary, even though you may struggle to make those projects concrete. a downside to this placement is that you may not give enough importance to your words; you’re brutally honest, and you may often hurt someone with your thoughts. even though you may appreciate it, as you don’t like it when people aren’t straight-forward, you probably don’t realize the effect your words can have on others. you’re also quite stubborn, and you take particular pride about your ideals. you may feel offended when people disagree with you. or maybe, you don’t even say your opinions, because you could be aware of the weight of your words and you don’t want to hurt others, or you’re afraid of being judged. people may define you as cold, but you’re really not. you just struggle to look sweet like other signs. you’re more detached, but that doesn’t mean that you don’t have emotions.
aquarius sun conjunct aquarius venus: you enjoy peace and harmony. you want your surroundings to look all neat and clean, and same goes for the people you surround yourself with. you wish people saw you as easy to approach, even though you may struggle with your image. you try to be as formal and kind as possible with people you don’t know well, unless they start getting on your nerves by disagreeing with your opinions or being too bossy. you’re very feminine, not only in your looks and manners but also in the way you dress. you’re quite romantic too, and dream of having a perfect marriage. the downside to this aspect is that because you take so much care of yourself, people may mistake your self-love for vanity, especially with your scorpio placements. also, your self-esteem may depend too much on others’ opinion of you; you may start thinking you’re ugly and unworthy of love just because someone told you you’re not their type, to sum up.
🌙 moon in capricorn, 0° / 1st decan ruled by saturn
in your group of friends, you’re probably the responsible friend, as you’re very reliable and mature, almost serious. you always want to be seen as a point of reference, yet you tend to shy away from the spotlight. even though you may desire it, you feel too shy and pressured being in the centre of attention. you don’t like talking about your feelings; even if you do talk a lot, you prefer talking about news, hobbies etc. you don’t want to be the subject of the conversation. because of this, you tend to repress your emotions, as you don’t want to be seen as vulnerable. you’re a nice listener, your friends can rely on you when they need to vent without wanting an advice, as you’re probably not the best at finding a solution to their problems. you may find yourself wanting to follow a schedule, otherwise you feel as if you’re too relaxed and you’re not being productive. this is also a placement that can indicate coldness in your family environment / childhood. maybe your parents were quite strict, but overall it was nothing too serious that hurt you deeply.
capricorn moon opposite cancer jupiter: you enjoy making different experiences and living your life to the fullest, making you also a risk-taker. you may lack self-control. with this trait you get bored easily, and you may have a reputation for being flaky. you tend to overindulge; you may spend too much money, or even develop eating disorders like binge-eating. at least, you're able to build your life again and have a fresh start, but you risk to get stuck in this cycle. you have the potential to master different talents, but you may struggle to develop them due to this placement. you're a procrastinator, and you find it hard to focus on more things at the same time. you may also attract people with different beliefs and ideas from you, causing you to fall out with them easily. there are also positive sides to this placement, though! you're probably naturally lucky, even though luck may not always be by your side. you have a nice sense of humor, making you more likeable.
🗣️ mercury in capricorn, 28° / 3rd decan ruled by saturn and mercury
you can come off as cold by the way you speak. when you're speaking to someone you're not close to, you choose your words more wisely and patiently; with your friends, on the other hand, you take off your mask and you just act the way you feel to. you may also be the type to give dry answers, such as 'ok', 'alright', 'good' and so on. your tone is calm and placid, while your voice sounds quite youthful, but still with a note of steadiness. you're funny, but your humor is more sarcasm-based. you're not intimidated easily; even when someone tries to argue with you, you don't back up from it. you may dive deep into your mind to find the right answer you to your problem. even if it takes you some time, you manage to find a solution. a downside to this is that you may lack patience. mercury is also retrograde, so you may have trouble communicating your thoughts in a clear and understandable way. due to this, people may misunderstand your ideas and opinions and viceversa. you're more introspective, you're better at thinking than speaking, which may make you more of a listener.
❤️ venus in aquarius, 24° / 3rd decan ruled by uranus and venus
when it comes to love, you actually step out of your comfort-zone! aquarius is unpredictable; that is, you're not into clichés. sure, you need a loyal partner who's stable both emotionally and financially, but at the same time they must have something unique about them. you're not the type to fall for the first guy you see down the street. in addition to that, you're not into the typical, cheesy romantic stuff. you want your partner to be a friend, not only a boyfriend/husband. you want to feel able to talk and vent to them, just like you'd do with a friend, but also someone that is willing to stay with you through thick and thin. you hardly fall in love at first sight, and you act quite casually around your crushes. in fact, most of the times you come off as so detached that you hardly look like you're interested in someone. people could get intimidated from you because of that, in fact sometimes you just wish you could be the one taking the lead and ask others out, and maybe you do. also, you need a partner that can stimulate you mentally. you can't stand a boring relationship with no amusement and excitement, you want someone that can constantly surprise you in some way. in fact, you'd probably choose brains over looks. last but no least, you hate feeling committed. that doesn't mean that you're unloyal, not at all. but you can't be with someone possessive that wants to take control of your life, it would be the death of you. you're able to stand up on your own.
☄️ mars in aries, 14° / 2nd decan ruled by mars and the sun
you're very impulsive, it's natural for you to act before you think. you're motivated to pursue your goals. you're a natural born leader, you love being the boss and being seen as a point of reference, even though this could make you seem a bit bossy when working in groups. people may see you as fearless, but that's because you don't think much about your decisions. even if you make a wrong choice, you don't give up and try anything to solve it. in fact, you can't stand losing. you're a serious competitor, you always strive for the 1st place. that's also caused by the fact that, with your aquarius sun, you're likely afraid that people could see you as too weak, and then take advantage of your kindness. you're very defensive, but your purpose isn't hurting others, but protecting yourself.
aries mars square cancer jupiter: you easily come off as more assertive and arrogant than you actually are. you say things impulsively, and sometimes you’re too blunt and hurt people’s feelings. you don’t do it on purpose, though, there’s no malice behind your acts; it’s just your natural way to express your opinions. you’re also very competitive, and this may make you look selfish. on a positive side, you probably have a naturally nice body (or maybe you react fast to diet/workout). you’re a risk-taker, and if you’re not you should try breaking the rules sometimes (obviously not doing illegal stuff lol). in fact, it’s when you’re both physically and mentally active that you’re able to come up with even better ideas, as you’re full of creativity. to cope with this placement, you can try doing something fun to challenge your mind, basically get out of your comfort-zone. of course you don’t have to overdo it, but it would be beneficial.
🏡 houses
your 1st house is in virgo. you appear as someone intelligent, possibly judgmental and critical. in fact, you’re a perfectionist, and most of the time you appreciate it when someone takes care of themselves just as much as you do. you’re also particularly pessimistic, and this could be annoying for those around you. you’re very logical and pragmatic, and you may even be a bit judgmental. you can read people’s mood very well, it’s easy for you to understand whether someone is sad, angry, happy… because of that, you always try to make people feel at ease, you’re always kind with people, and that makes you extremely likeable. you’re probably a very genuine person. it’s hard for you to hide your real emotions, and even if you wanted to hide them you wouldn’t be capable.
your 2nd house is in libra. you find beauty and aesthetic in material things; you most probably love clothes, art, music… anything that isn’t exactly a priority in life, but that allows you to express your personal taste, which is very refined. with this placement I’d suggest that you should pursue a career that allows you to express your creativity, as arts and beauty allow you not only to make money, but also to increase your security and confidence. you could also spend money in venusian things like clothes, make-up, decorations and anything that involves beauty and aesthetic.
your 3rd house is in scorpio. you probably love witty jokes and sarcasm. you’re extremely honest when you think and speak, and most of the time you have no problem expressing your opinions. you could possibly be very good with words and be good at convincing and manipulating others. usually this placement makes someone kind of mischievous when it comes to words, especially with your impulsive aquarius energy that may make you hurt people unintentionally. your mind is very deep, you’re probably not really into small talk. you may also love anything that is considered taboo, like astrology, horror, nudity, death… you’re also quite secretive, you’re seen as an enigma. you don’t want to share much about you. last but not least, you value honesty above all. you only speak the truth, and hence you also want it back. you may as well be into conspiracy theories, science and anything that can expose what’s behind the universe, the government etc. you have amazing communication skills and also an entertaining sense of humor that is able to light up the room.
your 4th house is in sagittarius. the moon and pluto are also placed in this house. you could come from a foreign place, or perhaps you moved houses a lot during your childhood. perhaps, you have someone in your family that is from a different culture or religion from yours, or perhaps they’re able to speak more than one language. your parents could have been very successful at school, they could actually be professors. you might’ve always been a smart kid, you could’ve grown up learning more languages and you were most likely good at school too. you also got to make lots of experiences during your childhood, you might have travelled a lot. your relationship with your family is most likely very good. it could be that there might have been a few misunderstandings between you and your parents, but nothing too serious. maybe, they could have been a bit distant, it could be that they had to travel a lot for work and hence you felt lonely; or maybe, it’s the opposite, they were a bit too affectionate and overwhelming, possibly possessive too, and you may have been babied or spoiled a bit too much.
your 5th house is in the sign of capricorn, with also your sun, mercury and neptune placed there. capricorn usually brings a feeling of seriousness to the house it’s in. you could be a bit more introverted, probably you’re not the type to frequent clubs, parties, etc. you’re more serious from that point of view. your hobbies could actually drain your energy for you; let’s suppose you’re into videogames. you could literally spend the whole day playing videogames, as you take your hobbies very seriously. you’re not the type to start a project and then leave it, you’re very resolute. also, you most likely have ‘mature’ hobbies; you could be into politics, economy, history… you could be into slower types of music, for example, or perhaps you like reading about world issues. with your children you may be quite strict, as you see them as a responsibility. also, you may often be attracted or attract older or more mature partners. you’re most likely a very romantic and artistic person, you may be fond of music, dancing, singing, acting… anything creative that stimulates your senses. yet, you may be a bit picky when it comes to hobbies; you probably only like reading specific types of books, you only listen to a certain music style, and so on. you may also be into spirituality such as psychology, astrology, law of attraction, yoga, mediation, etc. you try to be nice and kind to everyone, as you don’t wanna be seen as someone unpleasant to be with. you have a spectacular way of speaking, almost dramatic, that could make you come off as a know-it-all. when telling stories, you may exaggerate a bit, but at least you’re entertaining to listen. you could also gesticulate a lot while speaking, and maybe you like mimicking voices as well. you aim to express your feelings through creativity, it’s very important for you to write poetry, songs, drawings etc., it’s also a way to relieve stress and worries. your way of speaking is very attractive, it’s like a magnet. with this charisma of yours, it’s impossibile not to listen to you, you most likely have an extremely soothing and entertaining tone of voice. you would do amazing as a teacher or even as a (voice) actress.
your 6th house is in aquarius, with also your venus and uranus placed there. people with aquarius in their 6th house need to change their routine throughout their life. probably, when you were younger they taught you things that aren’t healthy for your body and health. you may have to change your diet, your medicines… also, you may sometimes procrastinate in your day-to-day life. for example you wouldn’t mind skipping a day of school or work to play videogames. this placement also indicates that you may often come across unpredictable events in your daily life. you may often see strange, unordinary things, or perhaps it’s your routine that is like that. you may lack consistency when it comes to diets and health, for example; you may start a diet and keep it for a month, then you get tired and drop it all of a sudden. you could also develop unexpected diseases. you may pursue a career that looks unexpected for you at first, something that you never thought you’d do. it will most likely be a creative, artistic job. it will be a very pleasant job, it won’t even feel like a duty to you as you’ll choose a job that you like and that you’re passionate about. regarding your health, throughout your life you may often come across sudden health problems, illnesses may come out of nowhere. you have a very logical, pragmatic mind. you try to be as well-spoken as possible, especially with strangers, but when people get on your nerves you can’t help but kill them with your words. before expressing your opinion on a certain matter, you like making sure that your thought actually has proof to be supported. you’re very analytical, and hence you also overthink a lot. especially when it comes to people you care, you start overthinking so much about little things like late replies to messages that you create a variety of hollywood-worthy scenarios in your head. you also pay lots of attention to details, and you can’t tolerate typos and grammar mistakes. you always try to speak and write in the most correct and polite way as possible.
your 7th house is in pisces. with this pisces descendant, you attract people that are pretty much very intuitive and soft; they could have pisces placements, or at least they’ll be extremely artistic and emotional. yet, you may as well surround yourself with 'broken’ people. that is, people that aren’t exactly in the best state of their health, whether physically or mentally. also, in a relationship you probably hate feeling suffocated. while your pisces descendant may make you enjoy skinship, you may sometimes also need your space, you still need your freedom. also, pisces makes you idealize your crushes/partners way too much, to the point that you create an image of someone in your head that turns out to be the opposite at the end. you ignore your partner’s flaws, as they seem perfect to you. you may also end up having lots of partners before settling down, as you may struggle to find the right person for you. yet, after that you’ll feel completely satisfied with your relationship, it will bring you lots of love and success.
your 8th house is in aries. mars is also sitting in this house. generally, people with aries in their 8th house are very confident when it comes to taboo topics; they have no problems showing their interest in them, especially with people they’re intimate with. you constantly try to improve yourself by coming up with new projects, you love challenges. they help you growing up into the person you want to become. you may come across some hardships regarding yourself, your identity. but, when you face those fears and start loving yourself, you’ll naturally become more mature and 'transform’. you’re an extremely goal-oriented person. you want to be the best at everything you do, not only to be better than others but also the best for yourself. you’re very astute, it’s impossible to trick you, and you always find a way to be in charge and get what you want. yet, you can get quite obsessed about your goals, that you could do extreme things to get what you want. in fact, people with this placement can even manipulate others, as they’re totally capable of doing that.
your 9th house is in taurus. saturn is also placed in this house. with this placement, I feel like you may use your intellect to gain financial security and material possessions. while this is a good thing, as it helps increasing your confidence, don’t forget that your intellect is more important than money or any other thing. don’t underestimate it. you’re totally capable of learning and understanding things by yourself, hence don’t wait for others for help. you should start dealing with your own experiences alone, without anybody else’s help. this placement can also be someone a little close-minded; in fact, you’re probably very stubborn and firm about your beliefs. you hardly ever allow others to change your mind. you may also be into poetry, philosophy, and just anything that can stimulate both your mind and feelings. in fact, your mind is constantly wandering somewhere else, allowing you to travel with your fantasy. you’re also probably attracted to foreign things, like people, music, fashion, languages, movies etc. you love learning about anything, and you may also have a good memory. in fact, it’s common for you to be the one who explains things and possibly even leads a group, and this could unluckily make you seem as a know-it-all. you do take pride in your wisdom, indeed. your deep way of thinking is also where your desire for freedom comes from, as you wish to be able to expand yourself through travelling and new experiences.
your 10th house is in gemini. jupiter is also sitting in this house. you may actually pursue more than one career throughout your life! you’re very flexible and skilled at multi-tasking, so you probably wouldn’t feel stressed about it. perhaps, you could alternate a creative profession with a more logical career, like working in an office for example. also, your suitable jobs should include communication and creativity at the same time; you could be a writer, for example. or perhaps, you could keep these two things in two separate jobs. what matters is that you use words in both of them, and hence you could even be a judge, a singer, a translator, etc. you may also have to interact with other people in your job, I don’t see you working from home for example. you may also be very popular on your work place, and you may even be in the public eye for your job. in addition, I see you acquiring fortune and abundance from your career, not only financially but also emotionally.
your 11th house is in cancer. this placement indicates that your friends, they’re your comfort-zone. you feel understood when you’re with them, they’re pretty much like a family to you. you can tell them anything, you put all of your trust in them. or at least, if you haven’t met anyone like this yet, you’ll surely meet a friend that is like a soulmate to you. they’ll also be very important for your growth. in addition, it could also be that you’re still friends with someone from your childhood or even high school days, and hence you could literally grow up together. you could also have some step-siblings. you could also have very big goals you want to achieve in your life, probably since your childhood. as a result, you may end up pursuing your dream career for instance.
your 12th house is in leo. this is kind of a tricky placement, as leo rules the self, the ego, and the 12th house rules fears. you could be afraid of being too confident, of feeling worth it, or even just by being in the spotlight. perhaps, you have stage fright. this fear of embracing your persona makes you very insecure, even though you probably don’t show it. also, since your 12th house is the house of dreams, you could often make dreams that involve yourself. you hardly ever dream of someone else, and if you they’re probably your lovers, possibly your friends. you may also make daydreams or sleeping dreams of creative, utopic scenarios. you most likely have lots of dreams, that could even predict the future. you may be a bit too pragmatic to embrace your spirituality. I think you’re already working this out since you’ve booked an astrology reading to discover more about yourself, but remember that you should definitely try to get more in touch with your soul! even doing simple stretching, meditation or yoga can help give you some space to think about your identity, your wants and your needs. the 12th house is also the house of fears, and since its cusp falls in capricorn, you may be afriad of authority, like the police for example, or anything that appears to be much bigger and more supported than you. it may also manifest in fear of not being organized, and also fear of money / success loss.
❤️ love life, soulmates
in love, you attract pisces, capricorn, aquarius, leo, and cancer placements. your future spouse will most likely have some of their planets in leo, cancer, aquarius or pisces; they’ll be well-balanced, with a stable job and finances. yet, they won’t be too much of a workaholic, as they’re also most probably a chill individual who loves relax and vacation as well. you’re most likely going to meet your future spouse abroad. or perhaps, they are foreign and they travel to your country. you may also meet them in a place related to foreign culture, so maybe in a place filled with tourists, or perhaps in an exotic restaurant, perhaps at a sushi bar if you’re not japanese for example. it may also be time for you for new experiences, perhaps you’re doing something for the first time, such as trying a new sport or taking a plane. you may also meet your future spouse at work, or through a colleague of yours. your children will have capricorn and cancer placements: they’ll be extremely reliable and intelligent; they could be a bit rebellious during their early years, but they will become more mature as time goes by. they’ll be very creative and quite sensitive too.
👶🏻 family life
your mother was probably the more dominant figure in your family. she’s very smart and optimistic, and she could be into fashion and self-care. yet, she could be a bit moody, over-emotional and impulsive. overall, she’s a very joyful person who’s always ready to crack a joke and put a smile on others’ faces. she may be a sagittarius, a pisces, a gemini or a cancer. as for your father, he is more laid-back, but probably very stubborn and also quite protective too. he may have gemini or virgo placements in his chart, as well as aries and scorpio. if you have siblings, your relationship with them may be quite pleasant. probably, you used to get along very well with them, it was pleasant for you to hang out and talk to them. they could have gemini, leo, virgo, libra or taurus placements in their chart.
📊 career
as I’ve already mentioned above, your future career will most likely involve communication of any kind; you could have to interact with other people, and hence you may work in a place that allows you to communicate with others and that can get quite crowded, like a shop for example. you’ll most likely start from these small jobs, like working in a cafe for example. above all, communication and creativity are the most indicated fields for you to be successful. you would do amazing as a writer for example, or perhaps you could even become an amazing teacher / professor. yet, you may even choose to pursue a more complex career, like a career in the med field. you could become a nurse for example, as it allows you to both help and communicate with other people, or even a surgeon, a doctor of any kind. you could even do well in politics or in a company, especially in marketing. you will start from simple things, but as time goes by, you’ll be able to become more independent, maybe even a leader. you probably won’t have to depend too much on other people.
👕 fashion sense, style analysis
you probably have a very particular style. it probably describes who you are. you may be into traditional pieces of clothing that are always a must: cardigans, blazers, plain t-shirts, jeans etc. you probably wear natural shades of colours, hence white, beige, grey etc. or maybe also pastel colors. you may also be into retro fashion trends, especially 70s/80s. you don't like following fashion trends, you prefer making your own.
👁️ past life, life purpose
in your past existence, you were very in touch with your home, self, and probably marriage too. overall, your past life was very peaceful, especially when it comes to your family. this lifetime, though, you need to focus on letting the world know who you are. you have to build a reputation for your name and feel satisfied with your career, while still taking care of your family.
🤔 major transits analysis / july 4
this capricorn full moon is going to be extremely beneficial for you! in the next couple of weeks, you're going to clear your doubts and experience a gradual enlightenment as regards your feelings towards someone or something, your emotions. you might have been feeling anxious or unstable; this capricorn full moon is here to calm you down. exploit this positive transit to start something new: a new hobby, a new routine, a new relationship, etc. it's the perfect timing for new beginnings!
🧿 manifest what you want, secret skills
you’re very in contact with your spirituality, making you more sensitive to higher affirmations. you have the ability to visualize what you want. that’s the key to activate the loa: travel with your fantasy, and visualize what you desire. do you want a new car? imagine yourself doing road-trips on that car. a new phone? visualize yourself making calls with that phone. you can even literally create a story involving those topics and it will come true. you can also help yourself by writing and listening to your own affirmations, maybe covered up by some music. in this way, you'll develop a more optimistic mindset and you'll be able to attract more positivity in your life. you just have to believe in your power!
this is the end! thank you again for booking a reading, hope it resonated with you :)

for as long as i have known of the current iteration of my being, i have wanted to have the same clarity of vision & deep kind thoughtfulness & sense of wisdom as a certain someone. in a sense, & though of course i doubt it's healthy on a level of conscious awareness, i sub-consciously perceive most of my writing & contemplation & so on as really just isolated steps leading towards that endgoal. each paragraph of subjective truth serving as individual milestones on a road to some location i don't know the name of but will presumably be able to recognize. she really is the catalyst for most of my features, the initial struck match of a kind of an inductive process starting with everything i've ever known about myself & systematically throwing certain things out while substituting them with things i've known about others.
yesterday night, while talking with a friend, they noted sort of matter-of-factly that my blog had 'slowed down' in comparison to before - with their frame of reference basically just being an amorphously fuzzy delineation between some vague point in the past months where they used to see my posts on their dashboard very often, & now - where they only see them very rarely.
this comment didn't upset me in any real way, even if i was afraid in the moment that it 'might' come to represent something negative to my procession. though, it did make me actively aware of a certain degree to which i view my writing as… i wouldn't say a chore, necessarily, since at its best it provides unprecedented emotional relief. the fact that i feel like it is the thing my spirit is most naturally inclined towards would lead to me always coming back to it, anyway. but it definitely situationally feels like a certain "responsibility".
i feel rather good & content about the thoughtfulness of the self who seems to take over when i am writing. it's a thoughtfulness & clarity i wish i could carry over to most situations, outside of the little blocks of text they constitute. without writing, which i tend to conflate with 'thinking' & which then reframes periods of non-writing as periods of non-thought, i do more-or-less feel like i am backsliding into being a cretin.
putting thought to paper is labelled internally as a kind of game of bringing this person to life, & then sustaining them. on top of the previously-mentioned feeling of each paragraph of text just being a marker on some road to an imagined end-point, one might start to feel distressed & pained. like they need to "find an emotion to write about" so as to not "slack off". or, more relevantly, so as to not become some confused definition of a 'bad, careless, incorrigible person'. dampening the sincerity of your self-expression by treating it as a job.
to me, the fact that i regard my self-expression in this way is unambiguously a mental illness. maybe other people generally regard themselves the same way, & it’s not a mental illness for them. but it’s a mental illness for me. when you have a category or dynamic in your mind that is configured in a way that hurts you even though its configuration is arbitrary & could take other forms, to me that is worth designating as mental illness. i think i am generally a much more thoughtful & understanding person than i used to be but this is one of the ways in which i still feel like my underlying logic is categorically child-like.
i remember feeling like i didn't even necessarily have to strive to be like them - like i could just sit & be still & simply take in with all of my being the existence of another person who i am so viscerally inspired by & i would be content, possibly forever.

5 Tips to Generate and Utilize Actionable Customer Insights
Tumblr media
Business is business and the purpose of branding and marketing your business should be clear to everyone involved. But what if you’re more interested in collecting information about potential buyers rather than other businesses who might want to buy from you? In this scenario, we need a different approach that is based solely on our customer’s preferences rather than separating ourselves as competitors. This means shifting our focus away from how we are similar and focusing on only how we are different. We don’t need to rely on techniques that most businesses tend to use when getting their point across to the public in terms of market share; it would be useless! If customer data is dirty then we must clean it up first…okay, just kidding! The reality is, the importance of relevant customer data will decide whether or not your product has any chance at all in today’s marketplace.
To avoid some of them, here are five tips.
1. Have A Framework
If you want to gain a deeper understanding of your customer base and their perceptions of your business and industry, then it’s recommended that you start with defining a framework based on what type of information you’re looking for. Once you’ve established this framework, then go ahead and only collect data that will help strengthen your point of view by asking insightful questions. Also make sure to look at the big picture when conducting research to ensure that it’s meeting your objectives.
It is essential to understand what a framework is and what it isn’t:
It isn’t about trying to prove how you think your customers are.
It is a method of determining how data is collected and understood.
In other words, it is a way of interpreting data.
2. Collect Data with A Purpose
Just because you have some data doesn’t mean its accurate or that it adds up to a higher number without being scrutinized and questioned. Having a method of collecting data is not enough; the data you collect must be analyzed for any flaws, issues, or discrepancies. Just because you see some fluctuation in your sales numbers doesn’t necessarily mean there’s a problem with the business—it could be just as likely that a level plateau represents an emerging delta in need of attention and full investment. Methodical tracking practices are needed when managing projects involving multidisciplinary teams from different companies across countries!
Just to emphasize this one point, it would be that every question should tie to a potential action. If it does not tie to a potential action, it is unlikely to get used. And if you don’t ask the right questions ahead of time, you may end up wasting money and time. It’s usually a series of questions related to a single action and in this case the final report will have more depth as well as a broader perspective than what might otherwise be possible with research that didn’t begin with key questions in mind that lead on to other relevant questions and then to required actions. In short: good research is only as good as the questions people ask before they start doing their research.
3. Make Sure Your Focus Groups Are Focused
This mostly comes down to a recruitment issue. But recruiting the right people is at least half of the battle. One thing that happens too often is that more focus is put on finding the right people rather than making sure they will fit into the group dynamic – for example, if we say a few words about health and wellness, it’s quite likely you pictured someone doing yoga wearing Lululemon pants, a pink shirt and holding a fresh smoothie in their hand. The reality often says otherwise because nearly nobody identifies themselves so easily or fall into such stereotypes but it all boils down to the fact that you always need to remember to find balance between your personal expectations and logical thinking when sending out job requirements which can add up pretty quickly!
Recruitment is the most important issue here. At least half of the battle consists of recruiting the right people.
There have been too many times when a focus group member does not fit what the group is supposed to represent, whether it is a mindset or even some demographic that this group represents. In situations where the outlier is the dominant personality, it becomes even more challenging.
Multiple screenings and clear communication between the recruiting facility and the company are essential.
4. Embrace The Power of One-On-One
The potential for the new field of qualitative research. It might seem obvious. A short chat with your friends is hardly going to tell you much about their character, isn’t it? But this question brought to light a lot of people’s interest in qualitative research, meaning they really wanted to learn more about it, but then they didn’t. It seems even though they wanted to delve further into this interesting concept, no-one followed up on the questions that were raised! Perhaps qualitative research was seen as too troublesome or time-consuming when at first glance, it shouldn’t be because what we often fail to realize is its capacity to tap into our subject’s true thoughts and feelings. So yes, maybe an interview with their three best mates isn’t going to be enough in terms of learning more about a person…but these interviews with a larger number of individuals who each meet our subject just once might do the trick.
Interviewing true brand lovers can bring more insights to the table by efficiently hearing their perspective on how your brand is perceived and whether they believe that consumers associate it with a specific emotional response. Brand lovers are often observant as well as driven to express themselves so you’re likely to hear even more satisfying and interesting perspectives! So don’t be afraid to dig into some of the deepest emotional responses possible.
5. Sell In Ahead of Time
People must buy into research for it to be useful.
Research is often produced by companies that is deemed irrelevant or unimportant by some people within the company.
Make sure you consider which departments your research could potentially affect before you conduct any research. Identify their concerns and take their input into account.
As the results of the research are introduced, getting people to buy into the research and, more importantly, taking action is easier.
In the end, it’s all about having a framework for success. We hope that this blog post has given you some useful tips and insights on how you can go about doing so. Thank you for reading, we always appreciate your readership and are happy to be able to share our knowledge with you!

Judging and Perceiving Axes Short Descriptions
This post is inspired by a Reddit user that described perceiving and judging functions as movement vs control types. Movement as in involving your mind in the progress and the flow of the world (witnessing the world), while control wants to set goals and get outcomes (shaping the world).
"Truths", no matter how contingent, is the scope of the perceiving functions. They are empirical (Ne/Se) or experiential (Ni/Si). To discover what exists and what doesn’t/could exist. They do not seek to make any judgement, just to collect all the “information” they can find, even if the information is integrated with contents within. They seek knowledge (book knowledge, hands-on experience, knowledge of what is possible, the feelings the mind gives you all count) and are guided by the images that arise form their mind. Things are not subjected to right or wrong, logical or not. Things simply are the way they are (of course, they can still be wrong about their information, but that's what they care about). Perceiving dominants are a bit more likely to focus on collecting and anticipating information to resemble a continuous walk between two legs. A perceiving-axis would care for flows.
The judging functions have their beliefs about the world. They can't just accept everything that occurs. They want to understand the structure of the world, or assess how things should be. They would desire the environment to be under "control" in the sense that they have a mission (F) to pursue and come up with the objectives (T) to be fulfilled to achieve the mission. Planning (T) is also about controlling the situation, rather than living out the process. Judging dominants are a bit more likely to re-assess each step in relation to the mission and objectives (this includes reassessing the mission and objectives). A judging-axis would care for outcomes. Should we achieve something different? Should we achieve this differently?
The process from the previous paragraph is essentially the same for T-F in general. The main difference between Ti-Fe and Te-Fi is where they focus and derive their systems from.
What is the most sound approach given the values of others or the value I have formed as a result of their values? Are these values sound? Is there a compromise to satisfy the two? Should I strive for these ideals despite being unsound? Should I make changes in their values based on what seems sound?
What are the most reliable approaches given the desired result of my values? Do my values not fit well with the most reliable approaches? Is there a compromise to satisfy the two? Should I strive for these ideals despite being unrealistic? Should I make changes in my values based on what seems realistic?
—-----
A Si user would look at things and use their mind's Google to think of ways to use it, new ways to use it would rely mostly on Ne (though Si would compare the structure/function of the item with another item which has different uses; depending on how they see its relations. Two objects that are remembered in high intensity in the same experience may be considered related). Every event is seen with the things they’ve learned in mind.
A Se user wouldn't rely as much on what they already know (they would care less about actively finding details they can use as reference points for more information). They look at the object as it is and relate it to the current context. It could be utilized in a novel way or a way they're already aware of. They're more adaptable as they see the world with a relatively fresh outlook. That’s what makes Se raw, objective, and unbiased. But of course, raw material has its limitations.
Si-Ne. The user does not see the world as it is, but bounces off of them and checks all related information on the things they can find from the present in order to provide guidance to their objective views on potential. They basically search for secondary information through their database (you can also bounce off the secondary information). Objective projections (Ne) do not judge, so in order to navigate it rather than stay still, they will utilize all the bounceable information (Si) and see how the info fits with every idea. Their thoughts have more structure when it comes to their ideas or how things relate to other contexts.
Note: If you picture "pieces" of information (which is a vague concept as its hard to numerically measure mental information as compared to digital information) as a block, then Si's secondary information isn't limited to adding more blocks. It could provide more depth and detail to a block, it could group blocks together (categorization) or strengthen their connections (how each block relates to other blocks)
Se-Ni. The user observes and navigates the world impersonally, but is guided by a subjective & straight line extracted from that impersonal perception. As an image recognition software, they have one clear idea that is deemed to fit well with the present situation. When with impersonal data and a strong projection they have faith in, they have a solid understanding on how their environment is, how it moves, and how to deal with it. How they approach / their relationship with their environment has more structure (in-context).
Si-Ne = Clear understanding of the connections/network of info and ideas (how information relates to each other, how information relates to each idea/possibility, and how each idea relates to each other.). Ends up as a general understanding that applies to multiple contexts (like textbook)
Se-Ni = Clear understanding of the current context (not only do you see the entire structure of the present world, but you picture a bunch of arrows all pointing to one particular direction)

Day 72,
Maiko was gone again when the rest of us got up this morning.  I volunteered to go check on her.  I’ll admit, it was partly because I wanted to take some time to watch the view from the edge myself.  It’s a profoundly weird sensation using these bracelets to track one another.  The best thing I can think to compare it to is remembering where you left something but when you actively think about it there’s no cause and effect of you ever having left it there.  Or if you’re actively trying to get to them, then just sort of thinking about them and letting your body go on autopilot as if you were navigating a route you walk every day to the point where you no longer have to think about it.  Familiarity without history.
Figuring she might not take well to inquiries about how she’s doing given yesterday’s exchange, the first thing I said once I found Maiko was to ask if she’d seen anything interesting.  She said that an hour or so ago she’d seen another floating island lift off from being docked at a regular one, much like this one had when we boarded it.  It was headed southwest while we’re still going north (and judging by our angle to Cloud Tower, actually north, not northwest like yesterday), so I probably wouldn’t be able to see it anymore even if I went to the appropriate side of this island.
I pointed out that the sun hadn’t been up an hour ago.
She said the chickens woke her up again.  And even with the sun down there’s enough light from the stars to make things out, especially big chunks of land contrasted against the reflective water.  She was getting tempted to just eat one already.  Of the chickens that is.  Maybe the rest would get the message that she’s not a safe warm place to sleep.
I asked if that’d be raw or cooked.
Too many feathers for raw.  Besides, things that live on land aren’t as clean as things that live in the water.  And if you’re going to go through the trouble of plucking and cleaning, may as well go the extra step and cook it.
I couldn’t argue with that logic.  Except maybe the eating whole raw fish at all part, but I wasn’t going to say that.
A while of silence.
She asked me why I was out here with her and not poking around the house with the others.
I said I wanted to take some time to see the view too.  When you’re toward the center of the island it feels just like being anywhere else.  That rather detracts from the wonder of, you know, being on a floating island flying through the sky defying all logic of what I know should be possible and a part of me feels like it should be freaking out about that, and another part of me wants to study it and figure out how it works even though I have no idea where I’d even start, but the larger part of me is too caught up in just how cool it is to care.  I mean really, just stand up here and look out at the horizon and down at the world and tell me you don’t feel at least a little excited?  More like a fantasy than waking reality.
She made a noise bordering on a chuckle.  Said I reminded her of Lin just then.  All quiet and serious most of the time then sudden great bursts of emotion.
My turn to laugh.  Said Lin’s not normally quiet or serious.  Not from my perspective of knowing her anyway.  If I had to guess she just gets that way when she feels like she has to.
Maiko observed that Lin apparently feels like she has to around her.
I didn’t know what to say to that.  So I said nothing.
More time passing along with the world below us.  It occurred to me that we were very gradually descending.  At any rate, we were lower than yesterday.
My curiosity got the better of me and I asked about that pouch she had hanging from a strap over her shoulder.  Pointed out that I hadn’t seen it before she showed up asking to go on this trip.
The humming noise of one considering how to answer a question about something personal.
She said she normally keeps it at whatever camp she has set up so she doesn’t accidentally lose it or its contents while out and about.  That she only takes it with her when expecting to set up somewhere else for a long time.
An acknowledgment of an answer from me followed by a mutual silence.
She asked me if I wanted to see the contents.
Only if she wanted me to.
Moving further away from the edge first, she unslung the pouch from her shoulder and carefully removed the contents one by one, placing them on the ground between us.  A stone knife.  Another stone for sharpening it.  The cracked crystal I’d given her.  A small wooden figurine of an animal I didn’t recognize.
I asked about this last one.
She said a word that didn’t “translate” and I have no idea how to spell.  She’d never seen one herself but her mother had told her about them.  Fierce, smart, loyal, protective.  Good companions.
I said it sounded like a dog.
Maiko had never heard of dogs.
It occurred to me that I’d not seen any dogs in the Village, nor heard mention of them in my time here.  I think I’m getting used to this sort of revelation.  My existential freak out was considerably shorter this time.
We returned to the edge and went back to watching for islands while I tried to explain dogs.
Eventually we realized that the small island we’d been seeing for a while was actually large and far away.  And we seemed to be heading straight toward it.  As we got closer, we realized it was probably nearly the size of the main island with the Village.  At least.
We guessed that if the floating island was going to dock there, it’d be doing so in a few hours, maybe sometime around sundown.  We decided to return to Lin and Cass to fill them in on this.
When we got back we found that they’d found Cass’s hypothetical tool shed and spent the day doing something with a shovel, a spade, a hammer, and the pipes around the cistern that got the water flowing to the outdoor pump again.  I’ll need to get a more detailed accounting of that later.
Apparently Cass had also asked Lin a lot of questions about “doctoring” as she called it.  It sounded like over the course of the day Lin went from not wanting to think about her work, to getting worn down and acquiescing, to enjoying being the one to instruct someone else for a change instead of being repeatedly reminded of everything she didn’t have exactly memorized right.
Now we’re all back at the arch waiting to see if we’ll dock at that big island.  We put all the food inside the tents before leaving to keep the chickens from getting into it.  Sun’s going down and I’m not sure I feel like writing by crystal-light this close to the edge so I think I’ll cut it off here for now.  One thing that is striking me even from this distance is how big the trees are.  They must be hundreds of feet tall.  Already we can tell that we’re floating at a level below their canopy.
*******
Our island has docked with and left that primeval forest.
It was after dark when we arrived, but we had unclouded stars and lantern light to go by.  There had been a fair bit of discussion while we waited on whether or not to set foot on that approaching solid ground.  We decided that as long as we didn’t get out of sight of the docking point we’d probably be safe to walk around for at least a few minutes.  Assuming it was anything like the docking at the main island.
The docking point was another protruding cliff, much like Siren Overlook.  Similar enough to make me wonder if both of them were artificial.  This one however was overgrown with creeping vines and broadleaf ferns.  (They looked like ferns to me anyway.)  There was another matching arch here as well, but it had collapsed and shattered, now easy to miss except as raised blocky patches of greenery.
This rampant growth stopped as it met the treeline at the landward end of the cliff.  Gazing into that forest was more like peering into the mouth of a cave.  Little grew from the ground other than the great trees.  Each of them was nearly big enough around at the base to fit my cabin inside, and it easily could have fit in the spaces between them with room to spare.  I wouldn’t have expected such tall trees to be able to stand with expansive branches, yet up at the edge of our lantern light we could make out the bottom of the canopy and the branches of the trees tangled together with their neighbors in a dense web.  A web that helps them hold one another aloft perhaps?  But certainly a web that catches the sun.  It would not surprise me if the forest floor is as dark at noon as it was while we were there.
As much as Cass wanted to, we did not walk beneath those branches this night.
While that choice was mostly a matter of not wanting to get stranded if the floating island left unexpectedly, part of it was the noises.  Even at that hour we could hear a constant distant din of animal cries.  Most came from the canopy far above, but at least one came from the murky depths and whatever it was sounded large.
And as a quiet compliment to that wild melody was another siren’s song.  Quieter here than the one we were used to, even accounting for how that one dimmed in the presence of the floating island.  But while the song back home was soothing, this one was energizing.  Not a lullaby but a chant.  Pounding, pulsating.  A rhythm to run to.  A song to hunt by.
All too soon the floating island started to shift and take off again.  Lin and (surprisingly) Cass had already re-boarded again by that time.  I was close behind.  I wound up briefly stopping to turn and call to Maiko.  For a moment, I thought she was going to stand behind.  In the next moment I saw what she had stopped to stare at.  Half-concealed by the shadows at the edge of the forest stood the Wandering God.  Or else another being of the same essence.
That moment too passed and we ran back to the floating island, Maiko grabbing my wrist as she passed me and practically dragging me behind for all I tried to keep up.  Needless to say, we made it.  It wasn’t even that far of a jump, even if it felt like it in the moment.
Panting, we asked Lin and Cass if they’d seen anything beneath the trees.  They did not.
We’re back at the camp in front of the mansion now.  Lin and Cass are in their tents already and the chickens have already congregated where Maiko’s lying in the grass.  She’s still refusing a tent.
I’ll be turning in soon myself.  I can’t help but wonder if I’ll get the chance to explore that place for real someday.  To hear that song for longer.
Then again, Pat said the Endless Abyss appears in dark places, and I’ve seen nowhere darker than that primeval forest.

Interview With An Ex-Radfem
exradfem is an anonymous Tumblr user who identifies as transmasculine, and previously spent time in radical feminist communities. They have offered their insight into those communities using their own experiences and memories as a firsthand resource.
Background
I was raised in an incredibly fundamentalist religion, and so was predisposed to falling for cult rhetoric. Naturally, I was kicked out for being a lesbian. I was taken in by the queer community, particularly the trans community, and I got back on my feet- somehow. I had a large group of queer friends, and loved it. I fully went in on being the Best Trans Ally Possible, and constantly tried to be a part of activism and discourse.
Unfortunately, I was undersocialized, undereducated, and overenthusiastic. I didn't fully understand queer or gender theory. In my world, when my parents told me my sexuality was a choice and I wasn't born that way, they were absolutely being homophobic. I understood that no one should care if it's a choice or not, but it was still incredibly, vitally important to me that I was born that way.
On top of that, I already had an intense distrust of men bred by a lot of trauma. That distrust bred a lot of gender essentialism that I couldn't pull out of the gender binary. I felt like it was fundamentally true that men were the problem, and that women were inherently more trustworthy. And I really didn't know where nonbinary people fit in.
Then I got sucked down the ace exclusionist pipeline; the way the arguments were framed made sense to my really surface-level, liberal view of politics. This had me primed to exclude people –– to feel like only those that had been oppressed exactly like me were my community.
Then I realized I was attracted to my nonbinary friend. I immediately felt super guilty that I was seeing them as a woman. I started doing some googling (helped along by ace exclusionists on Tumblr) and found the lesfem community, which is basically radfem “lite”: lesbians who are "only same sex attracted". This made sense to me, and it made me feel so much less guilty for being attracted to my friend; it was packaged as "this is just our inherent, biological desire that is completely uncontrollable". It didn't challenge my status quo, it made me feel less guilty about being a lesbian, and it allowed me to have a "biological" reason for rejecting men.
I don't know how much dysphoria was playing into this, and it's something I will probably never know; all of this is just piecing together jumbled memories and trying to connect dots. I know at the time I couldn't connect to this trans narrative of "feeling like a woman". I couldn't understand what trans women were feeling. This briefly made me question whether I was nonbinary, but radfem ideas had already started seeping into my head and I'm sure I was using them to repress that dysphoria. That's all I can remember.
The lesfem community seeded gender critical ideas and larger radfem princples, including gender socialization, gender as completely meaningless, oppression as based on sex, and lesbian separatism. It made so much innate sense to me, and I didn't realize that was because I was conditioned by the far right from the moment of my birth. Of course women were just a biological class obligated to raise children: that is how I always saw myself, and I always wanted to escape it.
I tried to stay in the realms of TIRF (Trans-Inclusive Radical Feminist) and "gender critical" spaces, because I couldn't take the vitriol on so many TERF blogs. It took so long for me to get to the point where I began seeing open and unveiled transphobia, and I had already read so much and bought into so much of it that I thought that I could just ignore those parts.
In that sense, it was absolutely a pipeline for me. I thought I could find a "middle ground", where I could "center women" without being transphobic.
Slowly, I realized that the transphobia was just more and more disgustingly pervasive. Some of the trans men and butch women I looked up to left the groups, and it was mostly just a bunch of nasty people left. So I left.
After two years offline, I started to recognize I was never going to be a healthy person without dealing with my dysphoria, and I made my way back onto Tumblr over the pandemic. I have realized I'm trans, and so much of this makes so much more sense now. I now see how I was basically using gender essentialism to repress my identity and keep myself in the closet, how it was genuinely weaponized by TERFs to keep me there, and how the ace exclusionist movement primed me into accepting lesbian separatism- and, finally, radical feminism.
The Interview
You mentioned the lesfem community, gender criticals, and TIRFs, which I haven't heard about before- would you mind elaborating on what those are, and what kinds of beliefs they hold?
I think the lesfem community is recruitment for lesbians into the TERF community. Everything is very sanitized and "reasonable", and there's an effort not to say anything bad about trans women. The main focus was that lesbian = homosexual female, and you can't be attracted to gender, because you can't know someone's gender before knowing them; only their sex.
It seemed logical at the time, thinking about sex as something impermeable and gender as internal identity. The most talk about trans women I saw initially was just in reference to the cotton ceiling, how sexual orientation is a permanent and unchangeable reality. Otherwise, the focus was homophobia. This appealed to me, as I was really clinging to the "born this way" narrative.
This ended up being a gateway to two split camps - TIRFs and gender crits.
I definitely liked to read TIRF stuff, mostly because I didn't like the idea of radical feminism having to be transphobic. But TIRFs think that misogyny is all down to hatred of femininity, and they use that as a basis to be able to say trans women are "just as" oppressed.
Gender criticals really fought out against this, and pushed the idea that gender is fake, and misogyny is just sex-based oppression based on reproductive issues. They believe that the source of misogyny is the "male need to control the source of reproduction"- which is what finally made me think I had found the "source" of my confusion. That's why I ended up in gender critical circles instead of TIRF circles.
I'm glad, honestly, because the mask-off transphobia is what made me finally see the light. I wouldn't have seen that in TIRF communities.
I believed this in-between idea, that misogyny was "sex-based oppression" and that transphobia was also real and horrible, but only based on transition, and therefore a completely different thing. I felt that this was the "nuanced" position to take.
The lesfem community also used the fact that a lot of lesbians have partners who transition, still stay with their lesbian partners, and see themselves as lesbian- and that a lot of trans men still see themselves as lesbians. That idea is very taboo and talked down in liberal queer spaces, and I had some vague feelings about it that made me angry, too. I really appreciated the frank talk of what I felt were my own taboo experiences.
I think gender critical ideology also really exploited my own dysphoria. There was a lot of talk about how "almost all butches have dysphoria and just don't talk about it", and that made me feel so much less alone and was, genuinely, a big relief to me that I "didn't have to be trans".
Lesfeminism is essentially lesbian separatism dressed up as sex education. Lesfems believe that genitals exist in two separate categories, and that not being attracted to penises is what defines lesbians. This is used to tell cis lesbians, "dont feel bad as a lesbian if you're attracted to trans men", and that they shouldn’t feel "guilty" for not being attracted to trans women. They believe that lesbianism is not defined as being attracted to women, it is defined as not being attracted to men; which is a root idea in lesbian separatism as well.
Lesfems also believe that attraction to anything other than explicit genitals is a fetish: if you're attracted to flat chests, facial hair, low voices, etc., but don't care if that person has a penis or not, you're bisexual with a fetish for masculine attributes. Essentially, they believe the “-sexual” suffix refers to the “sex” that you are assigned at birth, rather than your attraction: “homosexual” refers to two people of the same sex, etc. This was part of their pushback to the ace community, too.
I think they exploited the issues of trans men and actively ignored trans women intentionally, as a way of avoiding the “TERF” label. Pronouns were respected, and they espoused a constant stream of "trans women are women, trans men are men (but biology still exists and dictates sexual orientation)" to maintain face.
They would only be openly transmisogynistic in more private, radfem-only spaces.
For a while, I didn’t think that TERFs were real. I had read and agreed with the ideology of these "reasonable" people who others labeled as TERFs, so I felt like maybe it really was a strawman that didn't exist. I think that really helped suck me in.
It sounds from what you said like radical feminism works as a kind of funnel system, with "lesfem" being one gateway leading in, and "TIRF" and "gender crit" being branches that lesfem specifically funnels into- with TERFs at the end of the funnel. Does that sound accurate?
I think that's a great description actually!
When I was growing up, I had to go to meetings to learn how to "best spread the word of god". It was brainwashing 101: start off by building a relationship, find a common ground. Do not tell them what you really believe. Use confusing language and cute innuendos to "draw them in". Prey on their emotions by having long exhausting sermons, using music and peer pressure to manipulate them into making a commitment to the church, then BAM- hit them with the weird shit.
Obviously I am paraphrasing, but this was framed as a necessary evil to not "freak out" the outsiders.
I started to see that same talk in gender critical circles: I remember seeing something to the effect of, "lesfem and gender crit spaces exist to cleanse you of the gender ideology so you can later understand the 'real' danger of it", which really freaked me out; I realized I was in a cult again.
I definitely think it's intentional. I think they got these ideas from evangelical Christianity, and they actively use it to spread it online and target young lesbians and transmascs. And I think gender critical butch spaces are there to draw in young transmascs who hate everything about femininity and womanhood, and lesfem spaces are there to spread the idea that trans women exist as a threat to lesbianism.
Do you know if they view TIRFs a similar way- as essentially prepping people for TERF indoctrination?
Yes and no.
I've seen lots of in-fighting about TIRFs; most TERFs see them as a detriment, worse than the "TRAs" themselves. I've also definitely seen it posed as "baby's first radfeminism". A lot of TIRFs are trans women, at least from what I've seen on Tumblr, and therefore are not accepted or liked by radfems. To be completely honest, I don't think they're liked by anyone. They just hate men.
TIRFs are almost another breed altogether; I don't know if they have ties to lesfems at all, but I do think they might've spearheaded the online ace exclusionist discourse. I think a lot of them also swallowed radfem ideology without knowing what it was, and parrot it without thinking too hard about how it contradicts with other ideas they have.
The difference is TIRFs exist. They're real people with a bizarre, contradictory ideology. The lesfem community, on the other hand, is a completely manufactured "community" of crypto-terfs designed specifically to indoctrinate people into TERF ideology.
Part of my interest in TIRFs here is that they seem to have a heavy hand in the way transmascs are treated by the trans community, and if you're right that they were a big part of ace exclusionism too they've had a huge impact on queer discourse as a whole for some time. It seems likely that Baeddels came out of that movement too.
Yes, there’s a lot of overlap. The more digging I did, the more I found that it's a smaller circle running the show than it seems. TIRFs really do a lot of legwork in peddling the ideology to outer queer community, who tend to see it as generic feminism.
TERFs joke a lot about how non-radfems will repost or reblog from TERFs, adding "op is a TERF”. They're very gleeful when people accept their ideology with the mask on. They think it means these people are close to fully learning the "truth", and they see it as further evidence they have the truth the world is hiding. I think it's important to speak out against radical feminism in general, because they’re right; their ideology does seep out into the queer community.
Do you think there's any "good" radical feminism?
No. It sees women as the ultimate victim, rather than seeing gender as a tool to oppress different people differently. Radical feminism will always see men as the problem, and it is always going to do harm to men of color, gay men, trans men, disabled men, etc.
Women aren't a coherent class, and radfems are very panicked about that fact; they think it's going to be the end of us all. But what's wrong with that? That's like freaking out that white isn't a coherent group. It reveals more about you.
It's kind of the root of all exclusionism, the more I think about it, isn't it? Just freaking out that some group isn't going to be exclusive anymore.
Radical feminists believe that women are inherently better than men.
For TIRFs, it's gender essentialism. For TERFs, its bio essentialism. Both systems are fundamentally broken, and will always hurt the groups most at risk. Centering women and misogyny above all else erases the root causes of bigotry and oppression, and it erases the intersections of race and class. The idea that women are always fundamentally less threatening is very white and privileged.
It also ignores how cis women benefit from gender norms just as cis men do, and how cis men suffer from gender roles as well. It’s a system of control where gender non-conformity is a punishable offense.

Pile One:
Tumblr media
Who is this person? What are they like?
Nine of Winter:
This is the nine of pentacles in this deck. Usually, the Nine of Pentacles represents a woman, but not always. A person represented by this card is highly feminine and an extremely independent individual. They are very hardworking, they appreciate the finer things in life, and their hard work has allowed them to enjoy these things. Your next partner will embody this energy.
King of Autumn:
In this deck, this is the King of Swords. Besides being a hard worker and extremely independent, this person is also calm and collected. Before making any decisions, they weigh the pros and cons of every situation. Your next partner will be someone you can turn to when you have trouble making decisions. They are a very mature individual, someone who is extremely logical and can sometimes appear to be judgmental.
How will you meet?
Three of Spring (Reversed) and The Crow:
One or both of you will be in a state of disarray when you meet this person. It will be difficult to make decisions in your life, maybe even in one particular area. Several directions will be pulling at you, and you won't know which one to take. Your progress in your personal development will be affected by this. The energy I'm receiving from this pile indicates that it will be you who is struggling and that when you meet this person, they will be drawn to you because they feel like they can help you, and ultimately they will.
How will you know it’s them?
The Lupin:
The Lupin is a highly intelligent and confident individual. Here your guides are telling you that the way you will be able to know that this is your person is by recognizing that they exude these qualities. As far as the environment goes there may be some flowers around you when you meet which is a sign to you that this is your person. You or they could be wearing purple as well.
What will your first impression of them be?
The Goldfinch:
The first impression you will have of this individual is that they are a very organized free spirit, willing to travel. Initially, you may be intimidated by their confidence and their refusal to get involved in drama or chaos. Initially, their eyes may also catch your attention and seem beautiful to you. If you are highly spiritual, you may even observe that this person's third eye is open whether they are aware of it or not.
How will they affect you?
Ace of Winter and Queen of Autumn:
When you are with this person, you will find that you have so many opportunities. You will become extremely passionate about your career and life choices. You will become more aware and even more in control of your path. Pursuing your dreams will be so much more fun because unlike in the past, you will know exactly what you want. With this person, you can regain control over your path and enjoy life again.
What kind of relationship will it be? What is the main bond between the two of you?
The Empty Cottage and Eight of Autumn:
It seems that this relationship may not be a good one. Although this person will provide you with many opportunities in your career, they are not healthy for your mental health. There is a strong possibility that they are very possessive and jealous in your relationship, which isn't healthy. Your anxieties might get worse or they may not understand the reasons for your mental health. The problem is that the person is extremely rational and does not deal with emotions very often, whereas you are an extremely emotional person. Relationships like these do not mix well and you may end up feeling very alone as a result.
Current obstacles standing in your way?
The Lighthouse:
One or both of you may be lacking in the stability department and also in the confidence department. I believe that it may be you that is struggling in this department and your guides are telling you here that this is blocking you from entering this relationship at the moment. I know that with the way that I just described this relationship you may not want to enter this relationship at all and so you may be saying “what is the point of clearing out these obstacles if it won’t be a good relationship.” to that your guides have to say that you are meant to be in this relationship. It won’t all be bad in the relationship, there will be good, especially when it comes to you getting out of a funk and finding joy and drive for your passions. This is something that is needed in order for you to excel in life. This person is meant to help you in your career and your passions, which is why you are meant to be in this relationship.
How to break through those obstacles?
Ace of Spring:
To overcome these obstacles, you need to become aware that this person is going to push you to pursue your passions and career further. You will learn how to succeed in your passions and career through this relationship, regardless of how short it may last. As your guides are telling you here, this is what you need to hold onto so that you can move forward with this relationship.
What will you learn from this person?
King of Winter:
You will learn how to be a successful and driven person through this relationship. It may not be good for your anxieties and your emotions but it will be good for your career. The two of you may have a lot of 10th house overlays in your synastry chart because the energy of this relationship is not at all emotional, it is way more career-centered.

Pile Two:

Who is this person? What are they like?
The Hermit:
The person may be a Virgo or have significant Virgo placements or energies in their chart, more than likely they are a Virgo Rising. This person is wise beyond their years and prefers their solitude. They are extremely observant, and constantly seek to expand their knowledge. Additionally, they may even have a deep connection to spirituality. All that being said, they are highly sensitive, especially to judgments and criticisms from others.
How will you meet?
King of Swords:
You might meet them at work, and either you or them will have some authority. Based on the energy I am getting from the two of you I believe that it will be them who is in authority. Once you start working for them, they are struck by you and your presence. You are constantly on their minds, and they watch everything you do. The two of you will be following a very common office romance trope.
How will you know it’s them?
Seven of Pentacles:
Your future may not be something you enjoy thinking about or planning. You don't seem to be a type A at all. Your preference is to go with the flow rather than make a solid plan. It might however turn out that, once you meet this person, you have a greater sense of direction and need to plan your future in a more structured manner. It is quite likely that this person is very much a planner and a critical thinker, so when they are around you will be trying your best to impress them. It is for this reason that you will begin to become more like that person. It is also possible that both of you will be wearing red or blue when you meet, which will be a sign that this is your person. Question marks may be involved in your meeting as well. They could be in the environment or you may find that you are very curious about this person which will result in you wanting to ask a lot of questions.
What will your first impression of them be?
King of Wands:
When you meet this person, you will think they are extremely confident. Their ability to lead and their determination to achieve their goals will impress you. As friendly and outgoing as they are, I can tell you that it may seem intimidating at first because you are really hoping that they will like you, and they can be hard to read so you aren't sure what they think of you.
How will they affect you?
The Hanged Man:
Part of you knows that there are aspects of yourself that do not serve you. Despite this, you continue to do nothing about eliminating these toxic behaviors from your life. This person will help you to do this. They do not tolerate toxicity, especially from the person they are pursuing, so when you begin to see them, they will work toward helping you eliminate those behaviors. This enables you to lead a healthy life.
What kind of relationship will it be? What is the main bond between the two of you?
Temperance:
It will be a very satisfying relationship for you both. Together you will build a solid foundation and live very comfortably. In the end, you'll feel at home with each other, seeing each other as family. Perhaps you both have never experienced something like this before, and for you both, it is a breath of fresh air.
Current obstacles standing in your way?
The Heirophant:
You may be stuck in a pretty traditional mindset especially when it comes to love. In that, you may believe that dating your boss is very unprofessional and that other people will think you are sleeping your way to the top. The last thing that you want is other people viewing you negatively and in your eyes, pursuing this is a disaster waiting to happen. According to your guides, this mindset is currently blocking the two of you from coming together.
How to break through those obstacles?
Page of Cups:
Your guides are telling you here that the way for you to release these blocks is by allowing yourself to feel emotions. You can’t help who you fall in love with most of the time and that is the case with this person. Instead of denying yourself this relationship, your guides are encouraging you to allow yourself to express your feelings, especially when it comes to this person.
What will you learn from this person?
Death:
As we have discussed, you have some toxic behaviors that you refuse to let go of, and this person will help you let go of them. In this person, you will learn how to shed the old side of yourself that doesn't serve you anymore and be transformed into the person you were created to be.

Pile Three:
Tumblr media
Who is this person? What are they like?
The Moon:
This person may be a Cancer or have significant Cancer placements, more than like they are a Cancer Rising. They are a natural daydreamer and will stop at nothing to make their dreams their reality. Because of this, they have very strong opinions about how and what they want their world to look like. They tend to struggle when it comes to trusting other people because they wear their heart on their sleeve and have gotten screwed over quite a few times because of it.
How will you meet?
Nine of Pentacles:
You may meet this person right after you make a significant purchase in your life, whether that is a house, a new car, home renovations, or even garden improvements. They may be the person who helps you get these things done, or you will simply just meet them around this time in your life.
How will you know it’s them?
Five of Pentacles:
It really does seem like you will have just purchased a new home or you will have some renovations in your current home around the time you meet this person. I say this because in the imagery on this specific card you can see a door with a house key. I believe that when you meet this person you will be in a great place financially but they will not be. You may even need to provide this person with a place to stay. You will know it is them because they are in a very dark place when you meet and you will be in a very bright place. This will lead you to want to help them get back on their feet.
What will your first impression of them be?
Eight of Pentacles (reversed):
You may not have a good impression of them when you first meet them. You will think that they are lazy and have a bad reputation, especially when it comes to money. I get the feeling that you will know who this person is because they may be a family friend or a friend’s friend. However, you will not have officially met this person or really gotten to know them, hence you having quite a bad impression of them. I think that someone will ask you to invite them to stay with you and you will say yes even though you don’t want to. This is because in your eyes this person has gotten to their dark place because of their own actions and you feel like helping them will only encourage their behavior. However, you will be wrong about your impression of them and once they come to stay with you, you will see a different side of them and realize this.
How will they affect you?
Ace of Swords:
You will experience many powerful emotions with this person. They will make you hate them so much one day but then the next day you will be madly in love with them. You may have been in relationships in the past that were filled with simplicity and ease. You will experience an entirely new type of relationship with this person, one that will send your adrenaline soaring.
What kind of relationship will it be? What is the main bond between the two of you?
Eight of Wands:
You two will never grow tired of each other. Even when you are apart, you will always want to stay in touch. Whenever you are with this person, you will feel as if you can tell them anything. With this person, you will feel at ease, and you won't worry about what others think of you because of how comfortable you feel around them. You will be able to fully express yourself around them without fear.
Current obstacles standing in your way?
Three of Pentacles (reversed):
Right now your ego is getting in your way when it comes to this relationship. You may believe that you are better than this person and therefore you do not need them in your life. There is another part of you that may even be struggling when it comes to working in teams, you currently prefer working on your own and do not go out of your way to hang out with other people or work with others. Your guides are saying that this is blocking you from experiencing this relationship.
How to break through those obstacles?
The Tower (reversed):
You have been holding off the inevitable for quite some time now because you fear change and this person will be bringing you to change. Your guides are telling you here that you need to release your fears and allow this person to come forward. They are telling you that they have your best interest at heart and would never bring you something you can’t handle and this person is someone that you are meant to be with.
Two of Cups:
Part of you may think that this relationship will not be true love or you may even believe that you are not worthy of true love and your guides are telling you that you are incorrect. This person will show you a whole new side of what love means and feels like. They say that it is definitely true love, even if it isn’t how you define what true love is.
What will you learn from this person?
Six of Wands:
In your mind, you think you know what success looks like, whether that be in love, or just in life. The only problem is that you are still not expanding your view of what success really looks like, and it will be this person who is able to introduce you to the different facets of success. Through them, you will learn how to truly experience success in all of its glory.

Pile Four:
Tumblr media
Who is this person? What are they like?
Ace of Cups and Strength:
This person may be a Leo or have significant Leo placements, more than likely they are a Leo Rising. They may also have significant water placements. They are extremely confident and courageous. They hold a great deal of power and many people come to them for guidance. They are also extremely romantic and sensitive. They love love and are a huge hopeless romantic.
How will you meet?
The Artist:
It is possible that one or both of you are artists. A gallery opening or an art museum may be the place where you meet. On the other hand, based on the energy I sense that one of you will have your art on display, and you will meet them through the event. You will get along almost immediately since you have very similar views on art.
How will you know it’s them?
High Priestess:
One of you may be wearing blue when you meet, maybe a long blue cardigan or dress. A floral pattern may be significant as well, whether it be wallpaper in the room you are in or someone is wearing it. This is a highly spiritual connection so you will almost just know it is them. You will feel how you have never felt before in their presence, it’s like they awaken your spirituality. You will feel your connection with this person almost instantly.
What will your first impression of them be?
Seven of Pentacles:
This person will seem like an extremely hard worker, someone who is very talented but doesn't see their own talent. You might also think that this person overworks themselves. However, you will also see them as kind and patient. You see this person as someone who has a lot of talent and is going to accomplish so much.
How will they affect you?
The Emperor:
They are very much someone who loves to be in control, and they enjoy bossing others around, especially when it comes to love. It seems that they want to dominate you and make sure you are doing exactly everything they want you to do. They will express a lot of their masculine traits in this relationship. However, it could also be you who expresses all of this rather than them.
What kind of relationship will it be? What is the main bond between the two of you?
The Lovers and Ten of Swords:
True love will be the foundation of this relationship. Both of you will experience the kind of love you have always dreamed of. However, this is not to say that the relationship will be easy, as there will be challenges along the way. However, due to your love for one another, you will get through each challenge together. This relationship may last for a long time.
Current obstacles standing in your way?
Six of Pentacles:
You may be an extremely generous person, especially when it comes to your time and energy. Your guides are saying that this aspect of yourself is hindering your progress towards this person. Yes, it is nice to be generous with the people you care about, but that generosity should not come at the price of your health or sanity. Make sure you are maintaining some boundaries in your life.
How to break through those obstacles?
Two of Wands:
It is time for you to set better boundaries especially when it comes to the people you are close to. You may be scared to set better boundaries because you feel like people will be mad at you. You need to release those fears because if people get mad at you for taking care of yourself, they do not truly care about you. Now is the time to make sure the partnerships in your life are healthy and the first step in doing that is by making sure that the partnership you have with yourself is healthy.
What will you learn from this person?
Eight of Swords:
This person will teach you how to get out of your own way. You have a lot of anxieties and insecurities, especially when it comes to relationships and this person will show you how to heal. Through them, you will learn how to let go of your fears and fully express yourself in a healthy way.

Even as I literally just finished a fic where Ed is furious with Stede for leaving him, I'm still not 100% convinced that he will be.
The most compelling meta I've seen on this was someone pointing out that Ed didn't get mad after Stede left. He went back to the Revenge heartbroken and embarked on his whole "lesbian pottery teacher" era of self-care and creative expression. He took the lessons Stede gave him and the people Stede brought into his life and leaned on that support network and those healthy modes of emotional expression and by all appearances, seemed to be healing and figuring out who he was without Stede in his life but trying to keep the good parts of what Stede taught him about himself and what he wants out of life.
What set him off was Izzy's declaration of disgust at what he had become (again, a heartbroken but healthier person trying to work through an emotional time) and told him to get back in the closet and back to work, with the implied threat that Izzy (perhaps as a stand in for the ugly world of piracy itself) would eat Ed alive if he didn't. And Ed "snaps out of it" (in my reading, "as an abuse survivor, gets dragged back into his past toxic environment and habits") after he is shaken by this reminder, abandons his new support structure ("Bonnet's playthings"), gets rid of some (but not all) visible reminders of Stede (crying and basically torturing himself with the reminder of him with the lighthouse painting) in the public room of the captain's quarters (I maintain Stede's closet is untouched for a variety of reasons, and we can delve into the symbolism of Ed having a secret closet filled with the fine things of his boyfriend that no one else knows is there and that he doesn't show to the toxic people in his life another time).
^^ But that's where I think the slippage occurs, the confusion over whether he's mad at Stede or not. Because the predictable beat would be that he went home after being abandoned and immediately went full goth, reverting back to the Kraken as a direct cause and effect. But that didn't happen. So I guess I'm asking, is he throwing away Stede's things (including his crew) as an aggressive action towards Stede or towards the things Stede brought into Ed's life that are now Ed's things too?
There's an important nuance and distinction in the latter, that Ed's addressing something about himself rather than anything about Stede if that's the case. Substitute "Bonnet's playthings" with "Bonnet's friend group" that Ed's cutting himself off from and you can see the lie immediately: these are Ed's friends too. He's not cutting off all reminders of Stede, he keeps the lighthouse painting after all, he's cutting off the new path out of his life as Blackbeard (the toxic environment he was escaping) and most (but not all) of that support structure though in a self-destructive way (how else can keeping an enraged Jim around be viewed?).
TL;DR Ed's actions during the Kraken reversion are self-cauterizing rather than retribution towards Stede. Ed's immediate reaction to the breakup was different, we saw that. This isn't Ed's reaction to the breakup as such, this is Ed moving out of Stede's nice apartment and back into his old abusive home (while keeping a few mementos, like a metaphorical boyfriend sweater except it's your boyfriend's murderous knife-wielding crewmate, wtf Ed, this is strong evidence that your deathwish is back tbh).
And if we accept logically that the Kraken reversion isn't directed at Stede, it's more a sign of Ed giving up on the relationship and the possible future it represented for him, then I'm not sure what grounds there are to assume that Ed is going to be aggressive towards him if they reunite, other than cliche romance tropes which OFMD actually already avoided. And if Ed's heartbreak is as a result of Stede leaving then I struggle with how that justifies a reading where Stede coming back would be the point of conflict between them. Unless the real tragedy beat is if Ed sticks to his Kraken reversion by feigning apathy towards Stede, rather than anger?
