The Princess Royal, Patron, Save the Children UK, this morning visited a Shop, 55 London Road, Stockton Heath, Warrington, and was received by His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Cheshire (Lady Redmond).

Her Royal Highness this afternoon visited Jodrell Bank Observatory UNESCO World Heritage Site at the University of Manchester, Macclesfield, Cheshire.

The Princess Royal, President, Riding for the Disabled Association, later opened the new Centre and Platinum Jubilee Stables at Reaseheath Equestrian College, Nantwich, Cheshire.

I’m on my huge summer holiday from year eleven, I’ve just left high school. I should hopefully be going to Reaseheath college for horse management.

What kind of student are you?

Oof oof oof depends on the subject. I work hard in all of them, but the ones I like I’m the best in.

Do you like school?

Nope, hopefully college with horses will be better.

I didn’t really have one year 10-11, they all kind of went to shit.

I don’t watch TV, I should really say anime. I’m kind of getting into The Office both US and UK versions.

Tartun aiheeseen, koska ei sitä voi oikeastaan enää välttää. Nimittäin koronavirukseen (COVID-19), viralliselta nimeltään SARS-CoV-2. Viruksen nimi (SARS-CoV-2) kuulostaa pahemmalta kuin taudin nimi (COVID-19), jota se aiheuttaa. Siihen on varmasti syynsä, miksi mediassa puhutaan ennemmin koronaviruksesta kuin SARS:sta.

 Kaikki virukset ovat lähtökohtaisesti huonoja, mutta voisiko tästä löytyä jotain hyvääkin? Lentomatkustus on ainakin vähentynyt merkittävästi, josta luonto varmasti kiittää. Tämän lisäksi villieläinten kauppa on pysähtynyt Kiinassa, mikä on vain ja ainoastaan hyvä asia. Kärsivätkö kaikki yritykset pandemiasta, vai voisiko koronavirus myös synnyttää uusia liikeideoita tai antaa lisäpotkua jo olemassa oleville ideoille?

 Teollisuudelle on selvää, että positiivisia uutisia ei ole luvassa koronaviruksen myötä, niin kauan kun siellä tarvitaan ihmisiä tehtaisiin töihin, sekä raaka-aineita valmistamaan. Lääketehtaat sen sijaan luulisi porskuttavan, varsinkin se niistä, joka keksii lääkkeen ja rokotuksen koronavirukseen ensimmäisenä. Miten sitten digitaalisilla palveluilla elävät yritykset, onko tässä heille markkinarako? Matkustusta kun rajoitetaan, voisi Jaajo Linnonmaan perustamasta VirtualTravelerista tulla isompaakin kysyntää. Matkakuumeiselle se toisi ainakin hetken helpotusta, ja nyt meitä matkakuumeisia alkaa varmasti olemaan jo kasvava määrä.

Karanteenissa oleville ruokapalvelut tulevat tarpeeseen, kyse on ehkä enemmän siitä, miten laajasti ruokaa pystytään toimittamaan. Tällä hetkellä ruokapalvelut toimivat lähinnä isoimmissa kaupungeissa, sujuvien liikenneyhteyksien varrella, joten syrjäseudulla asuvat eivät voi tätä nykytilanteessa hyödyntää. Mitä karanteenissa olevat muuta tarvitsevat? Netflix ja muiden suoratoistopalveluiden tilausten määrän kuvittelisi myös nousevan, kun joutoaikaa kotona on enemmän. Koiranulkoiluttajia? Elämme maailmassa, joka on jo digitaalinen, mutta mitä me emme ole vielä keksineet?

 Arto Tirkkonen kirjoitti Helsingin Sanomien mielipidekirjoituksessa (Arto Tirkkonen, 3.4.2020, ”Nyt on hyvä aika harjoitella etäkokoontumisia”, Helsingin Sanomat) kuinka nyt on hyvä aika harjoitella etäkokoontumisia, ja miten meillä Suomessa on erinomaiset valmiudet etätyöskentelyyn. Laitteistoja myyvillä ja virtuaalityöskentelytiloja suunnittelevilla yrityksillä voisi siis tässä olla markkinapaikka. Voisiko tässä olla myös harkinnan paikka tulevaisuutta ajatellen? Jos me nyt epidemian tai jopa pandemian aikana opetellaan sujuviksi etäkokoontumisissa, niin voisiko ajatella, että tätä jatkettaisiin ainakin isommassa määrin kuin ennen?

 Niin tai näin, virus näyttää leviävän ja vaikka se tuo mukanaan paljon huonoa, niin ainakin se tuo myös edes jotain hyvääkin. Vaikkakin näitä hyviä asioita olisi mukavampi harjoitella ja kehitellä ilman pakkoa ja viruksen uhkaa.
