i'd like to congratulate sex for winning the war on sex
for those of you not researching lesbian history, let me introduce you to:
THE LESBIAN SEX WARS OF THE 1980S
Historian Lillian Faderman writes 'In the lesbian community, the 1970s was dominated by cultural feminists - especially lesbian-feminists [women who believed choosing to be a lesbian was the ultimate rejection of patriarchy] and middle-class lesbians - who generally shared a mistrust of masculine/feminine roles, sexual "violence" (whether real or in play), and pornography, which they saw as a manifestation of the misguided male sex drive.' (Faderman, 2012: 249). Lesbian sex in the feminist community was all about equality, and the slightest whiff of anything "masculine", which could be anything from buying a woman a drink to vaginal penetration, was decried as politically incorrect.
However, in the early 1980s a group of lesbians grew which wanted to liberate lesbian sex the same way gay men and heterosexuals had found freedom and fun in sexuality over the course of the "free love" era of the 60s and 70s. They argued that restricting sexual practices in the way that was required of the radical lesbian-feminist was oppressive, and that assertive sexuality when employed in a consensual environment between two women couldn't possibly be replicating patriarchal gendered violence, and that assertive sexuality was not inherently male.
It was a backlash against the biological essentialism prevalent in feminism at the time which encouraged women to embrace their "natural" feminine traits. Although this often involved destigmatising female bodily functions and sexuality, it also uncritically privileged 'women's biological, natural capabilities over an examination of cultural gender differences' (Dolan, 1987: 158), which raised red flags for many feminists of colour at the time who recognised a biological essentialism all too similar to the type used in racist doctrines.
'And so, when some lesbians at the end of the decade began to encourage lesbian interest in pornography and even strip shows and certain forms of violent (albeit consensual) sex, cultural feminists felt betrayed and furious. It was to them as though the enemy - male-identified perverts in dyke clothing - had all the while been living in their own camp and were now attempting to weaken the ranks by disseminating propaganda in support of everything the cultural feminists most despised: pornography, sexual role playing (including s/m "violence" and butch/femme relationships), and even public sex.' (Faderman, 2012: 250)
A large part of the lesbian reclamation of sexuality was rediscovering the butch/femme roles that had developed in the bar culture of the 50s and 60s, and which had been wholeheartedly rejected by lesbian-feminists in the early 70s as replicating patriarchal heterosexual relationship structures. These neo-butches and femmes felt that this strict binary way of thinking about gender was more restrictive than any kind of role-play engaged in by a sexual minority, and further argued that by having a female body taking in and claiming the "male" appearance and role, it further undermines the assumption that masculine power is solely the domain of the man, and therefore undermining the male/female binary that is the cornerstone of patriarchal oppression.

2022 Roundup
Thanks for the tag @danpuff-ao3 ! and oh yours was so lovely to read through.
Rules:
Post the top 5 works you're most proud of that you released in 2022 (not necessarily your most popular),
your top 4 current WIPs that you're excited to release in the new year,
your top 3 biggest improvements in your writing over the past year,
your top 2 resolutions (ways you wish to improve your writing/blog) for the new year,
and your number 1 favorite line you've written this year!
Danpuff covered nearly everyone I thought to tag but also @fonkeloog @billsfangearring @narcissa-black-supermacy @fvckyouimaprophet @sliebman10 and let me just tag them again: @broomsticks @vdoshu
5. Post the top 5 works you're most proud of that you released in 2022 (not necessarily your most popular)
1. Icarus (Pansy/Millicent/Parvati, 20k, M)
The addiction/trauma recovery/we’ll kill each other or save each other fic.
I love my characters. I always do, and I think it’s my strength as a writer. But these three have such tight grips on my heart that it’s almost painful to reread and yet I keep doing it.
2. Duty (Regulus/Sirius, 2k, M)
Regulus Black’s life in less than 2,000 words.
So intensely personal I never expected it to but one of my more popular fics. I’m so proud to have created a literary work I’m proud of woven almost purely out of myself and my hurt.
3. Alphard’s Favorite (Sirius/Peter, 5k, M)
Peter is a good friend to a drunk and sad Sirius... to a point.
More fics where Peter fucks 2k23!!! But also - resentful Peter is SO much fun to write from, and this has my favorite concluding line I’ll ever write.
4. Family Legacy (Andromeda/Ted, Remus/Tonks, Teddy Lupin/Victoire, 1.6k, T)
This tragic, queer family can give us all hope.
Proof I can also write something wholesome. Queerness and transness is beautiful, and we are a legacy. Not overly sweet but pure honest love.
5. you will burn right now but then you won’t regret it (Fleur/Tonks, 32k, M)
All is not well, and Tonks and Fleur are on the case (and definitely don’t have feelings for each other.)
A case fic! I wrote a case fic! One that says “fuck the police” and “messy dykes deserve love too.”
4. your top 4 current WIPs that you're excited to release in the new year
It’s ambitious to say these will all be released in the new year based on 2021’s writing pace BUT
My Black family AU
Inspired by Jade City by Fonda Lee, I want to write an ambitious Black-family-against-the-world fic. Andromeda does not run away, and Sirius sorts Slytherin, and everything changes. Each cousin has their own POV chapters. It would be by far my most ambitious writing project, and I doubt I’d finish in 2023. I’ve been sketching out broad arcs for each character, outlining and writing some scenes to practice getting in their little morally grey heads. Ships as they stand now would be Sirius/Remus, Andromeda/Bellatrix, Andromeda/Ted, Narcissa/Lucius BUT I also want to fit in some Narcissa/Lily and maybe some Regulus/Barty. Who knows. I’m excited.
Bellatrix: Protector to threat to dangerously out of control to [spoiler!]
Andromeda: Lost girl with a serious drinking problem to spy to survivor
Narcissa: Naive romantic to realist politician
Sirius: Little rebel princeling to a responsible family head
Regulus: Underestimated spare to hero
Andromeda Liberata book 3
I’ve written a bit for it, but I’ve been feeling uninspired. It’s not abandoned, but it’s certainly on the backburner.
Fenrir/Remus trauma processing fic
When you go back to the person who hurt you to try to make the trauma meaningful or manageable, but it ends up making you feel so much worse.
Tonks/Bellatrix My Dark Vanessa inspired fic
I thought I could get this done for Fuck the Faculty but alas I got concussed again. Defense professor Bellatrix. Grooming. Incest. Bella getting revenge on the sister who abandoned her, but also whoops maybe she does have genuine feelings for Tonks, but whoops again she’s destroying her.
3. your top 3 biggest improvements in your writing over the past year
Freedom - writing boldly and unapologetically.
Exploration - I wrote a wholeeeee lot of different types of fics this year.
Confidence - I was confident in my writing this year in a way I wasn’t in 2021.
2. your top 2 resolutions (ways you wish to improve your writing/blog) for the new year
I need to find a way to integrate writing into my non grad school, non daily drinking life. (I stopped drinking by myself on weeknights in 2022, and, while it’s been good for my health, it’s been terrible for my writing output.) As a private practice therapist my schedule will be entirely my own which is both exciting and terrifying, and I need to add structure.
I want to work on another long, plotty fic! That Black family AU that’s wrapping itself around my soul.
1. and your number 1 favorite line you've written this year!
The ending line for Alphard’s Favourite which floored me as soon as it entered my head:
He fucked Sirius three more times, once more at Hogwarts, twice more afterwards, each time calling him his good boy, his favourite.
He fucked him a fourth time, if you count blowing up a street and pinning the blame on Sirius, which Peter did.

18.11.2022 100 days of productivity: 8/100
Yesterday the screensaver showed me two bear cubs, saying they were photographed in the most remote area of the world. I think it was so cute how I stared at them in a silly screen across the world.
Today I was supposed to go to a viewing of Rebel Dykes (2021) but could not go due to the deadline and other things. So pillow-fort cinema it is for me to celebrate the weekend starting.

I don’t know if I’m way behind in this kind of knowledge, but there was a difference for me between logically knowing that women can be HIV+ / get AIDS and seeing numbers for women around the world who are HIV+ or have died from AIDS-related complications
I understand why the narrative is as it is, the way homophobia meant/means a lack of treatment development + a lack of ability to access healthcare, but the way it’s affecting women is massively intersectional with racism/colonialism and poverty, and goes hand in hand with a lack of education because of (you guessed it) homophobia
I just think everyone should take in these numbers as a matter of education, both to support women around the world and because we’re seeing yet another case of homophobia-is-stopping-people-from-getting-tested/helped with monkeypox:
AIDS epidemic update: December 2000 (worldwide)
compare
AIDS epidemic update: 2021 (worldwide)
here are a few testimonies from british women in the 80s/90s
and Rebel Dykes, the documentary about working class S/M political lesbians in London, talks briefly about awareness raising/invisibility of HIV+ women in the 80s
I’ve also anecdotally had conversations around women and HIV about the rates in middle-aged divorced women, who haven’t been educated on the risks after possible years of sleeping with one partner, apparently that’s a significant risk group (because, again... lack of education+ homophobic institutions)
#hiv#aids#monkeypox#queer rights#womens rights#colonialism#there's a difference between knowing intuitively and Knowing through educating oneself#think a lot of people still subconsciously think of it as A Disease That Hits Queer Men and trans women and drug users as an afterthought#and faaaar far in the background of that thought is *oh yeah and some countries in africa*#(what countries? some... countries...)#which is our internalised racism and colonialism#and#because it was first used to attack queer men and then gay men for obvs reasons created a lot of mutual aid around it#have a lot more research to do -- mainly want to look for testimonies from women non-western countries#*in#i also wonder whether there are any transmasculine/trans male anecdotes#there's some unlearning to do and some learning to do#obvs we cannot individually protect every person in every country but i think it's good to be educated on this#id hazard some of the countries with the highest rates in women are also countries where it's still illegal to be gay#colonialism and homophobia and the aids epidemic go hand in hand#whaddayaknow... there's always more to intersectionalism than one knows#how do we utilise global connection for good? (not as in *burn yourself out on everything all at once*)#but as in -- we have siblings across the world and our actions affect one another across the world#ex. how covid vaccines were being hoarded#or how statistically at least as many women globally are hiv+ as men... at LEAST possibly more (and there's less resources/education)#or how i think about my transmasc and trans male and non-binary siblings across the world who either do or do not want to be pregnant#or i think about this documentary about the band mashrou leila and the activist sarah hegazi who was arrested/tortured#for unfurling a rainbow flag at one of their concerts and how one man who runs an lgbt+ center in beirut talked about the need#for global queer solidarity#lots of thoughts going in lots of directions apologies ive gone a little off topic on this post

The Rebel Dykes originated in the 1980s as a group that merged outsider cultures to create fresh feminist explorations of art, sex and activism! Now, The Rebel Dykes Art and Archive Show brings this group of artists back together for the first time in almost 40 years and unites important underrepresented cultural histories with contemporary dyke culture; inviting a variety of younger artists to exhibit new works alongside the dykes who paved their way. Curated by: artist and archivist Atalanta Kernick (of the Rebel Dykes), and artist and cultural producer, Kat Hudson (of Lesley Magazine).
Opening this summer at Space Station Sixty-Five in 375 Kennington Road, Kennington, London, UK (SE11 4PT)
Exhibition open: June 25th - September 17th 2021 Thursday - Saturday, 12-6pm.

Souls Foreclosed: Unholy Savior
The Story So Far
(FEB 28 - 2021)
Chapter VII: Danse Macabre - The Hands of Fate releases MARCH 3rd, 2021!
Transcription:
(01-1) 616 YEARS AGO, the fate of our world was irreversibly altered. The God of Chances, meant to keep watch over the cycle of Souls went missing. VAMPIRES and their dark church conquered the lands across the ocean and turned them into HELL ON EARTH... poisoned the streams, the air, the very SOULS of those in their RUINOUS GRASP
(01-2) The year 1877 - 6 YEARS AGO, the return of LUCIFER, God of Chances, and the awakening of their DEMONIC CHAMPIONS awakened new hope for our world teetering on the edge of the Apocalypse... THIS IS THEIR STORY.
(02-1) A woman by her own word, the Sorceress: She turned her back on a coddled life as a Tyvian Constabulary sorceror to be the woman she always wanted to be. A femme fatale... full of scorn! And a heart filled with burning passion.
(02-2) The Demoness TABITHA WYLDE *1848 - Scion of Sorcery - Retired Drag Queen - Sigil Craft - Reader of Cards - SLAYER OF VAMPIRES - "And don't expect me to be FUCKING nice about it!"
(03-1) Abandoned as a child - raised to become a man against her will - fled to a promised safe haven at the age of 12, to receive and Angel's gift and grow into a feminine form - cast out and branded by the church's Inquisition... The Revenant has faced many a trial... her flesh undying, her spirit unbroken
(03-2) The Demon REAH THRICE BRANDED *1851 - Medical Curiosum - Excommunicated Nun - Ferocious Fist-Fighter - Golden-Hearted Dyke - DOMMSDAY JUGGERNAUT - "Y'expect me to pass by without sayin' howdy?"
(04-1) Throughout the Lands of Norra, these two faced many vampiric threats and proved themselves victorious
(04-2) But more important than the common enemy they fought was the common ground the two of them found.
(04-3) And from a desperate alliance between two pariahs GREW AND UNBREAKABLE BOND
(04-4) One between a Femme and her Butch
(05-1) But Lucifer's demons are not alone in their struggle: All throughout Norra there a rebels rising up and taking up arms against their oppressors - common folk like the deserter ASTOR GILGAMACHE
(05-2) Or the valiant anarchist militia "THE RED MASQUE" who don devilish masks to strike the fear of Lucifer's wrath into the hearts of the Church
(05-3) These are not feeble hearts however...
(05-4) Zealots like the head of Norra's Southern Church, the undead GODFREY XIV and his bloodthirsty left hand, the maiden Inquisitor LOURDES DRASILLE
(05-5) ARE HELL-BENT ON CRUSHING THE TINY SHIMMER OF HOPE THAT LUCIFER'S RETURN HAS SPARKED...

Have you watched Rebel Dykes (2021)? It's sooo good, it's about the history of a group of working class punk leather/SM/sex-positive (trans-inclusionary) feminist dykes in the 80s who were basically the polar opposite of the middle class anti-sex political lesbians. Notorious TERF j*lie B*ndel hated them at the time and hates the film now so that's a great sign. Butch/femme, some antiracism, real feminism, a story about Sir Ian McKellan trying out a dental dam. Also you get to see women mud wrestling at one point :')
oh my god, no i haven't that sounds awesome!! ill have to find a way to stream it. thanks for the rec!
