ngl i hate that most of the responses to things like "you can't have trans women in the women's [insert place where nudity occurs] because a woman might see a penis" is something about how trans women are very private with their changing while being perfectly happy to accept (and indeed often reasserting) that having a dick in a space like that is a transgression that must be skirted around and avoided acknowledging as much as possible.

We don't make cis women do that, and I kinda despise that if/when i would be brave enough to use a women's changing room/locker room/whatever I'd still be subject to additional constraints that don't fall upon cis women. The pool I went to when I was very little had women changing everywhere, women naked in the showers, no dividers between the showers, and by some miracle nothing terrible happened when toddler me was there, not to mention nobody batted an eyelash about that.

I should be allowed to just shower naked without worrying about "oh but someone might see a penis". Big fucking deal. It's a body part. Some women have them. Another common refrain is "Just wait until bottom surgery." Somehow I don't think you'd be any more comfortable with me existing after that, since I'd still have my dick. Having one group being forced to undergo an expensive medical procedure they may not want and comes with an extensive recovery time before gaining "equal" status maybe doesn't seem terribly ethical.

It's frustrating to see the general consensus on this issue being that you absolutely cannot change in the presence of cis women, not because they might react poorly (though this is my main reason for not doing so) but because it would be unconscionable for a cis woman to have to see a dick and anyone "making" her do so would clearly be in the wrong (and i've even heard some people say that it should be considered a sex crime). It doesn't make remote sense to me that someone is responsible for someone else, in a space where nudity is expected, looking at them naked and being offended.

It makes it hard for me to truly accept someone as a trans ally when they say or believe or accept stuff like this. They're the type who are all for trans people, until it's slightly inconvenient. That's not allyship, that's posturing. If this whole mess of a post made you uncomfortable (on the off chance that anyone but a few mutuals read this), think about why that is. I'm genuinely curious why people think this, because it's never been a view i've held, but I can't come up with any worth holding onto (all i've got is thinking trans women are dangerous because of the risk of sexual assault, some puritanical bs about genitals and nudity being inherently sexual, some weird attachment to the gender binary, or "think of the children", which as mentioned above, doesn't make any sense because kids routinely go into locker rooms that don't correspond to their gender).

What's even more frustrating are the trans people who think I'm ruining things for them because I'm the scary type of trans people that they're nothing like. I had the gall to ask on r/MtF a couple years ago about locker room etiquette and someone told me I shouldn't even think about locker rooms until after I've had bottom surgery. It's a surprisingly common attitude that we shouldn't talk about this sort of thing because it plays into the narrative of trans women as predators, and instead of treating that assertion as the ridiculous argument it is, we're supposed to carefully tiptoe around everywhere to avoid doing anything that could conceivably be misconstrued as predatory, and guess what? We're still being called predators anyway. Almost like it wasn't a legitimate concern and just a scare tactic.

a small side-note is that in earlier seasons, particularly season 1, I noticed that a lot of the episodes tended to lean more towards horror (but like, really campy horror) than in later seasons, so this is not an exhaustive list!

🎃 x-files episodes to watch during spooky season 🎃

season 1:

1x3: Squeeze -- it's generally thought of as one of the scariest MOTW episodes, and it's one of the few episodes that actually scared me.

1x7: Ghost in the Machine -- I think this is the only X-Files episode to actually be take place on Halloween, so of course it had to go on the list!

1x8: Ice -- mainly here because it's in the same style of horror as "The Thing."

1x11: Eve -- it's just a very sinister and unexpected concept, which I loved.

(optional) 1x13: Beyond the Sea -- it's one of my all-time favorite episodes, and it definitely is spooky, but I think of it more as a Christmas episode because it takes place in December.

1x21: Tooms -- if you feel like wrapping up the storyline from "Squeeze."

season 2:

2x11: Excelsius Dei -- it's a ghost story, so naturally I had to put it on the list :)

2x14: Die Hand Die Verletzt

(optional) 2x15: Fresh Bones and 2x21: Calusari -- they don't stand out in my mind as being super memorable, but they do have the spooky Halloween/horror themes.

2x24: Our Town (also known as 'the episode that will never let me look at a piece of fried chicken the same way ever again')

season 3:

3x14: Grotesque -- to be honest, there's surprisingly few horror episodes in s3 (it's mostly sci-fi/comedy/psychological horror) but this is the one that stands out to me as being the most “spooky."

season 4:

4x2: Home -- it would be a disservice to the show not to include this episode on the list, since it was the only one to receive a content warning

4x6: Sanguinarium

4x22: Elegy -- another ghost story!

season 5:

5x5: The Post-Modern Prometheus -- it's just so campy and different and funny! yes, there are issues with consent, but there is also the slow-dancing scene :)

5x10: Chinga -- I mean, it was written by Stephen King, so it's going to be a scary horror episode (and surprisingly shippy!)

5x12: Bad Blood -- "classic vampirism," of course.

season 6:

with the exception of "How the Ghosts Stole Christmas," (which could technically go on this list, but in my mind it is too firmly cemented as a Christmas episode) s6 doesn't really have a lot of horror either. If you squint you could count 6x10: Tithonus, 6x18: Milagro, and 6x18: Field Trip, but I don't really see any of these as true horror.

season 7:

again, not too many horror episodes, but there are a few that stand out, most notably 7x4: Millennium (we have zombies!!), 7x7: Orison, and 7x14: Theef.

season 8:

8x4: Roadrunners -- such a good (and maybe underrated?) horror episode.

for season 9, I don't really have any to list (I skipped through a lot of s9 and have been meaning to go back and watch it all eventually), and the only spooky revival episode in my mind is 11x8: Familiar.

Before I go about the process I just want to say you guys have been soooo incredible and I love reading your reblogs and I love the idea knowing I’ve inspired a lot of people,,, the project, although it was a lot of work and I’m feeling not so great as of posting this, still motivates me to want to make another.

(Art process below)

This was entirely freehanded! I have a lot of experience working in 3D art settings that this part came easy to me but I started with a flat base shaped in the pose I’d like the creature in. I used one whole piece cut from a shipping box and filled in the gaps with tape; you don’t need a single piece for the base but for structural integrity it helps a lot. As you can see here I also cut the legs separate and glued them on using hot glue. The vertical cross sections are to give an early support for the structure of the creature, think about the frames of aircraft or boats. During this part I used a pen to mark the width and height of the previous section to get a gradual flow of shapes.

This next part I wish I got more documentation on but after the vertical cross sections I used soda boxes for the thinner and flexible cardboard to add contour lines along the length of the creature, gluing them on the cross sections. I did about 2 strips of this on either side to fill in the space and then I continued to use soda boxes to fold and shape the top of the creature, gluing onto the strips rather than the cross sections (this part was a mistake but I quickly adapted, no issues happened but it did make it slightly less secure). I also gave the legs vertical cross sections as well to shape them for the masking tape.

The worst part, taping everything. I used tape to further shape it how I wanted but that meant going over parts several times. I used 2 different widths of tape for this for efficiency but it doesn’t matter. The legs were very loosely taped and if squeezed then they’d lose their shape; I didn’t bother filling them in because I don’t have materials for that and I let the paper mache help support them instead. Tape was also used to fill any holes and gaps left by the cardboard skeleton.

The next phase is paper mache of which I haven’t done since 5th grade… I was not confident in this step. I used mod podge and a brush to smooth down the paper. Because I lacked materials I used fast food napkins instead of newspaper which worked totally fine, it just tended to tear a bit easier. Some areas required me to get hands on and I don’t really like the texture during this stage so that was fun (lie). I didn’t do too many layers, one for the body and 3 for the back and legs but some projects might demand more. I used half of a 16oz bottle of mod podge btw so please get more than you think you need.

Finally, texture hell!!! I did a base coat of white spray paint and painted everything else with acrylic. Start with your lighter colors first before doing darker ones! I originally mixed some yellow and orange for the body and realized it was too bright and so covered it with orange instead. It also wasn’t until later I realized I could’ve been smarter with my paint so I skipped over the segments that were going to be fully black, saving the orange for the rest of the body. I wanted my centipede to stand out and not look 2D color-wise so I also used the red for the head and tail to give gradients and edges to the orange segments and legs, later going back with burgundy to further darken them but not too much. For the black segments I also used a very watered down layer of sky blue to give a fake shine and show the intended structure of the segments. Do not be afraid to use your hands! I used mine to smudge my detail paints like the black fade on the legs and the back shading. To top it all off I sprayed a clear coat and punched two holes in the underside to hang it up, using thumbtacks angled upwards.

This is a long and rambly discussion post for elriel nation btw so strap in

I want to preface this by kindly asking the elriel hive to not use any tags of #those ships if reblogged. I want to keep this in the elriel echo chamber. Please and thank u!

A huge part of fandom culture is to ship canonically compliant characters and crack ships. Everyone’s got them, and it’s totally normal, and it’s usually fun to engage with.

The majority of the time I have no issue with this (I am a wolfstar shipper and even though there is canonical evidence of them in the original HP books, they’re widely accepted online and balked at IRL usually due to homophobia and #that nasty, nasty woman’s bigotry), but over the last few years a certain group of crack shippers have taken it upon themselves to fly a little too close to the sun, and want to make it our (elriels) problem. I am talking about the Glees.

It’s late and this just popped into my head so I want to rant about it.

My friend who got me into ACOTAR gave me a breakdown of the ships (bc I read ToG first and went in blind. I became a doraelin shipper very early on and remained one halfway through QoS, it was a whole thing when I realized they were not end game lol), bc I asked her to after my ToG experience. She told me all the characters names and then told me about feysand and nessian endgames but didn’t mention az or elain’s situation. I asked her about it and she told me that she didn’t want to mention much about Az because “by the end of the series azriel has two options for how his story could go, elain or another way”. She shared some anti elain sentiment with me because she’s “boring and doesn’t do anything”. That went in one ear and out the other with me tbh.

When I started acowar, and feyre returned to the night court, I saw how elain and azriel were interacting and I concluded that mor was the second LI of az bc of acomaf. I was not apart of the fandom online at this point, so I was genuinely in the dark about everything around these two. I was just reading and talking to my friend about what I read. I also want to add that I still liked L*cien at this point in the series (it changed in acofas, I became apathetic towards him rather quickly when I finished reading that whiny ass convo with feyre…..I don’t play when it comes to her) but wasn’t sold on eluce because they had like one interaction and it wasn’t a great intro to a ship.

However this first meeting in acomaf….. :)

‘Can you truly fly?’ He set down his fork, blinking. I might have even called him self-conscious. He said, ‘Yes. Cassian and I hail from a race of faeries called Illyrians. We’re born hearing the song of the wind.’ ‘That’s very beautiful,’

“Rhys chuckled, Cassian’s wrath slipping enough that he grinned, and Elain, noticing Azriel’s ease as proof that things weren’t indeed about to go badly, offered one of her own as well.”

Well imagine my surprise when I finished acowar and it turns out mor (the person az has crushed on for 500 years) comes out to feyre before the book ends and she explains that she can never love az the way he loves her. After three books, and everything that happens in acowar it was clear to me that elain and azriel were being set up as each others love interests, despite the mating bond with l*cien.

After Acofas I was officially on the elriel train. I mean…

“Azriel strode to the lone window at the end of the room and peered into the garden below.”

“Azriel emerged from the sitting room, a glass of wine in hand and wings tucked back to reveal his fine, yet simple black jacket and pants. I felt, more than saw, my sister go still as he approached. Her throat bobbed.”

“But Azriel only took Elain’s heavy dish of potatoes from her hands, his voice soft as night as he said, ‘Sit. I’ll take care of it.’ Elain’s hands remained in midair, as if the ghost of the dish remained between them. With a blink, she lowered them, and noticed her apron. ‘I—I’ll be right back,’ she murmured, and hurried down the hall before I could explain that no one cared if she showed up to dinner covered in flour and that she should just sit.”

“Elain swept in, apron gone and hair rebraided. ‘Please don’t wait on my account,’ she said, taking the seat at the head of the table.”

“He [Azriel] was the portrait of relaxed, an arm braced against the carved mantel, his wings tucked in loosely, a faint grin on his face and a glass of wine in his hand. He slid his hazel eyes toward my sister without him moving an inch.”

“Azriel and Elain remained in the sitting room, my sister showing him the plans she’d sketched to expand the garden in the back of the town house, using the seeds and tools my family had given her tonight. Whether he cared about such things, I had no idea.”

(Damn the more I read elriel’s acofas moments the more I can’t help but conclude that they just hate/don’t understand introverts 😭)

Before I started SF, I decided to look at the online fandom and bitch……my jaw hit the floor with all the elain/elriel hate I saw on TT. And everyone was talking about a newer character in SF, and I was seeing the glee fan art and was like oh shit ok maybe elriel isn’t endgame.

Fast forward to SF……

‘What happened to Elain?’

“Nesta saw the blow land, like a physical impact, in Elain’s face, her posture. No one spoke, though shadows gathered in the corners of the room, like snakes preparing to strike. Elain’s eyes brightened with pain.”

……and I’m thinking ok, az obviously likes her. Then comes az’s BC. When I finished the elriel portion of the BC I was actually crying bc I was like oh fuck I really love these two….I knew it was over for me, and I was freaked out bc I thought I was going to get got with this “new ship” involving az. Plus I was thinking about elain being left alone in the dark without any explanation and feeling like an idiot for finally showing her true feelings towards him😭. It was like 3AM when I read it so I was hyper emotional lol. But then I read the rest of the BC and was still confused because I didn’t see any romantic subtext with g/wyn. I read it and saw a hurt male who couldn’t stand what he had done to elain the night before, was pissed at his brother for stopping it and making him feel bad when he was finally willing to voice what he’s been feeling for the past year or so and hating that he was shut down because we know he never voices his emotions, and couldn’t bear keeping a gift he picked out specifically for her. A necklace…..for solstice……Then I finished SF as a whole, and still, was confused as to why glee is a ship. Nearly all of their conversations were centered around training, and Sarah didn’t use any descriptors in their encounters that elude to any romance or mutual interest. (Btw I have a whole take on rhys’ part in that BC and I think a lot of ppl are dense and don’t understand what he was going through in that book but I can save that for another time)

Cassian and Feyre have more chemistry than those too lol.

I then talked to my friend about the these ships (elriel, eluce, and glee) ((i didn’t talk about eluce much in this post but that’s a lifeless ship too. I mean…..she can’t stand that red head anyway soooo)), and I said “I’m an elriel through and through. Idc that eluce are claimed to be mates you can tell she does not like him. also glee makes no sense to me.” Not verbatim but you get the point. My friend is very sensible so by the end of our convo, she told me that she’ll accept whatever way Sarah goes and that she’ll give elain a chance when her book comes out.

But isn’t that what all of this shit is about in the end: unjustified dislike/distain/hate for elain? That’s certainly how is appears to me. You cannot look me in the eyes and tell me that you love elain if you ship her with a male whom she has expressed, on multiple occasions, zero interest in AND becomes a shell of herself when he’s around because she just doesn’t want to interact with him. (I want to reiterate that I don’t hate L, I don’t think he’s awful or anything. elain just doesn’t want to know him. And that’s her right.) The glees don’t like her bc she doesn’t fit their stereotype for what they want in an FMC and therefore, for azriel. Which is why they have been chirping that the next book will be azriel’s. Not elain’s….WHAT??? You sound fucking crazy. The eluces (even though they claim they like her) dislike her so much that they go on and on about how she needs to grovel and apologize to the male they like because HE deserves to be happy……the same male who she associates with one of the most traumatic days of her life. Who also has not apologized to her for the part he played in that day, but I digress.

I say all that to point out that Glee specifically is in the crack ship category. No canonical evidence in the text can be used to claim they are ‘mates’ or endgame or anything more than acquaintances. And that’s fine, but don’t act as though they’re to be taken seriously as a canon ship when there’s no evidence to support it. Don’t boldly claim that azriel “has two love interests” when he literally doesn’t. He can’t sleep because of elain. He can’t stop thinking about her. He’s short with his family and others around him the days and weeks following solstice. His shadows threaten to strike nesta when she hurts elain and causes her pain. He doesn’t assign his spies to watch L*cien in acofas because he doesn’t want to know if he’s trying to court elain. He goes full lethal when he hears she may have been hurt. He follows the sound of her laugh to see what caused it. He goes on a suicide mission to save her. They communicate through looks alone when their family is around. Have you read an SJM book before? This is how she sets up her relationships. Like, holy fuck.

You cannot claim elriel is a crack ship because they have had background build up that both FMCs in their respective books have noticed and commented on. Cassian has noticed it too DESPITE not being hyper aware of what’s going on with az in SF. (referencing the scene in SF where elain tells everyone at family dinner about nesta’s love for dancing and the ball story from when they were human).

This ship war shit is fucking crazy because really this should only be between elriel nation and the eluces. Anyway, I’m over dealing with the fever dream brigade and their hallucinations. They’re going to come crashing down like Icarus when the elriel bible release day arrives and all our suffering will finally come to an end.

Then after that I’ll need to defeat the tamlin redemption arch threats, bc that is not a claim, that’s a fuckin threat and I won’t stand for it. But let’s tackle one problem at a time.

I thought that I noticed some hypocrisy and contradiction in your posts but I'm not sure so i would appreciate it if you can clarify things for me bc I don't want to assume the worst. I'm just confused

So basically I feel like you are overly harsh on Christians while being very permissive to (religious) Jews. You act like even progressive Christians are super problematic and not allowed to reblog your posts and wtv, but then you turn around and say that all religious Jews are valid and should be accepted, including conservative and orthodox branches (forgive my ignorance if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure those are the ones that are very conservative and bigoted). So basically what I'm trying to say is that you seem to put conservative Jews on a higher level than progressive Christians which doesn't make sense to me.

I understand that conservative Christian, progressive Christians and anyone raised Christian pretty much has antisemitism that they have to work through. (I'm an ex Christian goyim atheist and your blog has really made me reconstruct some things which im grateful for btw!) But at the same time, antisemitism is only one bad thing that you can be.

So like to summarize I feel like antisemitism from progressive Christians is enough to make you tell them to dni but other kinds of bigotry like homophobia, transphobia, sexism etc from conservative Jews doesn't stop you from saying their religious is totally fine and acceptable.

Again, this is not an accusation, but more of a question. (Even though I probably phrased it like an attack in sorry!) I don't really know if I analyzed the situation correctly and I would really just want to have a chill interaction with you instead of a heated argument. If you could please explain how exactly you view this issue i would very grateful but you are under no obligation! If you don't feel like explaining yourself to a complete stranger, you are free to just ignore this. Have a meaningful Yom Kippur!

Some days it's a little disappointing to me to still feel like a small fish in the tiva fandom and not have my fics hyped or my opinion asked like others, even though I've been here for nearly a decade (admittedly on and off due to RL).

And then there are days, like today, when I see what's happening with @indestinatus and I'm reminded that relative anonymity can be a blessing.

So here are my unsolicited hot-takes from a fandom vet (that few will read anyway, so I might as well go for it):

1) My wish is that more folks in the fandom would put the energy that's spent on drama into supporting artists and reblogging/commenting kindly on content, i.e. fics and edits and vids, because that's really the cornerstone of fandom. It's disheartening to me to see how some people read/comment on certain people's fics but not others; how some people's edits are held up but not others. This has been on my mind for a long while, btw. It's not new.

2) Absolutely art and writing should not be stolen. I can't believe it's 2024 and that has to stated. If someone does it, accidentally or not, they need to be educated. If they choose to ignore that, it's on them to suffer the consequences. Period.

3) There is a place for discourse about the characters and the plot of a show, but all too often that seems to verge into opinions on casts and networks and other fandoms. I feel this is especially true for MW and CDP. It's important to maintain civility and boundaries.

4) Finally, it's totally fine to have your mutuals and friends, but fandom is supposed to be a community. Exclusion is only going to lead to hurt feelings and people stepping away. I hope we can all remember that we're choosing to be in this community of like-minded people because we love these characters and their story. The focus should be on championing the fan content that's created for all to enjoy and celebrating the new source material that's coming our way very soon.
