Today – an incredible gem. Original artwork you might know from #Pixies: Beneath the Eyrie Photography by the 'fifth Pixie' as the Art Director – the late #VaughanOliver – used to call his long-time collaborator #SimonLarbalestier. Factory Records released “Love Will Tear Us Apart” in June 1980. Pictured is the uncredited sleeve and label artwork by Ben Kelly and Peter Saville for the UK 7” vinyl sleeve. [1]

The words of the song title had been etched upon a sheet of metal, which had subsequently been treated to a process of ageing with acid before being left exposed to weather with the intention being the resulting appearance of a slab of stone. [2]

A conversation with Kelly is now streaming on Art of the Sleeve’s Spotify podcast (# 19). The designer talks about his new book “Haçienda Landscapes,” as well as his experiences working with Factory Records, Sex Pistols, and OMD.
