Do you have any shorter cdrama recs?
sure! put them into brackets since "short" in cdrama is uh...subjective lol
less than 30 hours
love between fairy and devil. look okay maybe it's 30 hours exactly but it's legit the best i love it
legally romance. late 20s-something legal assistant wakes up back in time to when she was a college student. light and fun
le coup de foudre. light and cute modern day show about a couple of first loves who reunite after years of estrangement
the romance of tiger and rose. hilarious, loving satire on romance and wuxia
wait, my youth. criminally underrated youth to working life drama
less than 20 hours
someday or one day. my #1 favorite drama of all. it'll break your heart and have you humming the ost months later (can confirm)-- taiwanese, not chinese however
a love so beautiful. another youth drama that you're either going to love or hate. the friendships made this one for me
lovely us. kind of like a smaller-scaled and less ambitious reply 1988
less than 10 hours
a familiar stranger. this show is absolutely batshit but it's so bingeable and kind of slutty? for a cdrama
hold on, my lady. the plot is about as heavy as packing peanuts, but it made me laugh and that's what i like about short shows
triad princess. im not recommending this because it's good, but because it made me smile a lot. taiwanese. permanently incomplete, kind of a hot mess but ❤
and haven't seen/finished, but hear good things about (all mini):
maid's revenge
the killer is also romantic
the queen of attack
night of love with you
the eternal love (not to be confused with "eternal love: 10 miles of peach blossoms)

I tried to re-"catch" the feelings I was having from watching Crash Course in Romance.
So, I looked into my deep watchlist and ended up with two very thoroughly enjoyable k-dramas that are re-watchable for a picky watcher like me. This is going to be long so read below if interested about the k-dramas Our Beloved Summer and Reply 1988
our beloved summer
Tumblr media
I'm a sucker for slice-of-life stories. while this story navigates through different timelines, it expertly toes the line between the past and the present thus presenting a full growth for each character in this simple yet relatable story. i love the script. i especially love the ost which i listen to every day even after finishing this drama a couple of months back.
our beloved summer, adapted from a webtoon, is the story of Choi Woong and Kook Yoon-seo who became viral after starring in a documentary about the contrast of the top and worst student in their highschool. that alone makes you curious. it's a catchy premise and the whole story manages keep the premise alive until the end.
the story is simple and you can guess where the story is headed. but what made me stay is the pacing and the writing. and it being true to what it set out to do-- to say that love can be found in different people in different times. but there are special moments where you find a different love in the same person at a different time.
i can confidently say that Choi Wooshik and Kim Da-mi are both actors to watch out for. they are not just made for the small screen. they each have such a presence that can't just be contained in a small screen. or maybe i just loved their chemistry so much. it's not even that kind of chemistry where it will grip your heart but it's the work that they put on both characters to make them as authentic as possible. i was drawn in on how they portrayed Woong and Yoon-seo. i was drawn on why they did what they did that led to their eventual *spoilers ahead* break-up and subsequent marriage.
watch this if you're not too heartbroken and you like a slow paced stories that fleshes out human emotions particularly of love-- to a romantic partner, to a mother, to a friend, and to found family.
i particularly loved the way they blindsided me about the reason why Woong was the was he was and why in a way he couldn't open himself up completely to Yoon-seo made me fall in love with the writing. with the sheer amount of content and stories readily available for us to consume, you become so desensitised that it's sometimes a welcomed gift when you don't get to predict what happens in a story.
that particular scene where they get back together and Woong says "...please keep loving me," is engraved in my heart.
--the only downside to this wonderful drama is a 1/4 of a love quadrangle that is too green to handle a wonderful script like this one. you'll know what I'm talking about when you watch it.
2. reply 1988
Tumblr media
i don't know what got me drawn to the works of the tandem director Shin Wonho and writer Lee Woo-jung but i am so glad that i am. i started with hospital playlist after seeing so much memes about it and now i can't imagine my life without hosplay (i still watch the whole thing like every month).
but i'm not here to talk about hosplay but the third installment of the critically acclaimed "reply" series.
Reply 1988 is the highest rated in tv ratings among all the "reply" series. and i can totally understand that as this show captures all the tales and woes of each generation.
i can say that the number 1 appeal of the Shin-Lee series' is the nostalgia and the bravery it takes to tackle the simplest yet the most constant worries of a human.
for the 3rd "reply" installment, it goes back to 1988, before the year looked funny (as you will see on one of the episodes). there definitely is something true about that as that's when all the technology in the world started to become accessible.
this show crept up to me (much like Prison Playbook). this was my second attempt at watching it since the first time made me drop it for being too "scream-y" which to be honest, a lot of shows are anyway. but what made me stay were the moms and dads. only did the last few episodes made me notice the actual gang of young misfits.
i loved the way it tackled real-world, real-family problems without being preachy. i love the way the pacing is so slow and nostalgic. i love the way all the families interacted with each other and with the other families.
don't come watching this show for the love story (although i absolutely loved who the main girl character ended up with). come watch this show if you enjoy stories about family dynamics.
--the only thing i didn't like (and this is just totally me), is how the noona who seems to be levelheaded fell in love with an immature child. maybe i was too salty to understand how it all went down but it just wasn't for me.

Filli do you have a list of kdrama recs!
Oh, I do. I mostly watch slices I identify as joseis (with some exceptions), but anyway I'm in the mood to talk about them, so
Faves:
Reply 1988 - my fav kdrama josei, focused on friendships and family, filled with nostalgia. I think this show and Spitz share the blame for my love towards 80-90s songs, I rewatched it recently and now my playlist looks like korean radio in 1988
Hospital Playlist - same crew as Reply, watched it to feel a bit better about people, it served its purpose + I loved all the songs
Age of Youth - story of friendship of five very different college girls, I haven't watched season 2 but the first one was great
Be Melodramatic - slice of life with lots of bittersweetness and irony and personal tragedies which amazed me with its direction, focus and the way it dealt with key themes
Healer - one of the things that once made me consider kdramas as a way to pass time, I thought I'd find it naive and no so good with time passing, but no, it still works on me
Recent faves:
Stove League - best drama I watched this year. Who would have thought a story of baseball club management could be so interesting
Beyond Evil - a detective story of two psychos officers trying to catch a serial killer while suspecting each other and making problems for the town (I fell in love with the ost first of all)
Racket Boys - haven't finished it but it's wholesome and fun, about a small school badminton team trying to win a competition
Youth of May - something that looked like a light story of students in Gwandju in 1980 and turned out to be about tragic historical events and killed my heart (I had no idea)
The Red Sleeve Cuff - something that looks like a story of love between a king and a maid (and later concubine) that is in fact just a tragedy of people of different social status and merciless era
My Liberation Notes - a story of lonely people dealing with life that hit me on a very personal lvl
Human Disqualification - same as previous, I got a bit mad about this one bc it gave me the same feelings my beloved Takaya once did with her Hoshi wa utau
Honorable mentions: One Spring Night, It's Okay To Not Be Okay, Sungkyunkwan Scandal, I Hear Your Voice

heyaaa! hope you are having a wonderful day, if it's comfortable with you can I ask for some k drama recs I really liked coffee prince and reply 1988 but can't find something similar
hiii, so i haven't seen reply 1988 but i really loved reply 1997 which was first in the reply series followed by reply 1994 (haven't seen this either so idk if it's good or bad)
here's some classics that really got me addicted to kdramas back when i started watching
full house: my first kdrama. very silly but cute af. back when romcoms didn't used to have serial killers in them the ost my beloved
my name is kim sam-soon/ my lovely sam soon: fake dating/ bickering. and the background was a restaurant i think. i had so much fun binging it. sam-soon really was the best.
boys over flowers: a classic adapted from a classic shoujo manga where you'll find every crazy thing that can only happen in a drama. it's absurd at times very many times but it's addictive af. also great soundtrack
playful kiss: i became a jung so-min stan after this. tho i like the taiwanese version best now it was fun binging it when i didn't know of the tw version.
personal taste: lee min ho pretended to be gay because he wanted to get inside a house for architectural reasons. i did like it. maybe check it out because the pain gong yoo felt, son ye-jin also goes through something similar although it was different.
my girlfriend is a gumiho: fantasy romance about a 900yo nine tailed fox and a wannabe action star. it was fun and cute and i cried at times too. shin min-a is the most beautiful human to walk this earth. great songs esp lee sun-hee's fox rain (acoustic)
sungkyunkwan scandal*: female lead pretends to be a boy because she wanted to study in a university when women weren't allowed to study. university ofc full of boys
rooftop prince*: time slip romance. was extremely popular
my love from another star: a top star gets accused of murdering her rival. lives across from a professor who's a 400yo alien who ends up becoming her manager. first romance drama i remember watching where there was a serial killer. both the second leads were annoying af
some other faves of mine that aren't as old
i can hear your voice: lee jong-suk can read minds if he looks into your eyes. public attorneys and prosecutors and a killer. loved it
pinocchio: news channels and reporters and fake news. one of my favourite kdramas ever. there's very few that keep you hooked from the beginning till the end. not one bad episode. i made so many people get into this one and everybody loved it too. great ost. you won't see vlc media player the same after this. made by the same people who made ichyv so you might enjoy it more because of some references but it's alright otherwise too.
healer: do you believe in the poooower of ever lasting loooooove.... another one in my forever faves that i got other people into. the chemistry of jcw and pmy was through the roof. people died because of them. some of the best kissing scenes ever too. no love triangle. reporters and tabloids and a messenger and world's greatest ahjumma. first couple of episodes weren't that good but i promise it gets so much better after my beloved Park Bong-soo shows up. usually i am not for english songs in kdramas but eternal love by MLTR has a special place in my heart.
fated to love you: jang hyuk and jang na-ra are just too good together. i watched because of ailee's goodbye my love and then regretted not starting it when it was airing. all of the soundtrack is great. lee gun's laugh >>>
her private life: since you loved coffee prince i am sure you liked kim jae-wook and this was his first kdrama lead role after everyone waiting for god knows how many years. couldn't watch it when it was airing because i was in my kdrama slump but when i got out i regretted not watching then. pmy and kjw together are just soooooo
one more happy ending: i just love jang na-ra. romcom with good songs about 4 women trying to find love again. jung kyung-ho and jang na-ra need to work together again idec about the genre.
come back ahjussi: two dead guys come back to life hotter. one in a man's body and other in a woman's. had fun watching it. ratings were low because one of the most overrated kdrama was airing at the same timeslot.
jealousy incarnate/ don't dare to dream: weather girl finds out the anchor she'd have a crush on forever had breast cancer. it's a romcom. had a love triangle and gave people major second-lead syndrome not me tho. back when gong hyo-jin used to be the romcom queen. great soundtrack
extra-ordinary you: and it was extraordinary. fantasy romance about an extra who is just trying to keep herself alive. eun dan-o was the life of the drama. high school romance. green flaggest male lead (i don't usually say that for anyone but he sure was). good songs and very rare for me to say that for a soundtrack of a drama only as recent as 2019.
crazy love: kjw is just too good in romcoms. this drama was crazy as the name suggests and hella fun. lee sin-a you'll always be famous.
lovely runner: ended just this tuesday and idk if you watched it but definitely worth watching. up there with pinocchio being good from the beginning till the end and no bad episode im sight. great songs great cast great characters. first loves time slips rain sunshine k-pop idols it had everything. ten years from now it'll surely be in the classics list
*haven't watched so i can't if they're good or bad but used to be very popular and were always in kdrama rec lists back then.

Park Bo Ram "HYEHWADONG" (REPLY 1988 OST)

Gara-gara Twenty Five Twenty One, Aku Jadi Kangen SMA
Tumblr media
Aku barusan selesai nonton 2521. Yang memang bagus sekali.
HAAAAH BAGUS BANGET DRAMANYA :”((((((((
Membuatku jadi kepingin nulis.
Aku sama sekali nggak peduli sama kisah cinta Heedo Yijin. Bohong sih, agak peduli. Sedikit. Tapi semua orang tahu kalau cinta pertama itu, ya, cuma cinta pertama aja. Mengesankan, it is. Indah, berbunga-bunga, you name them. But being with them? Until you married? Just a few people who got such a lucky experience. Termasuk Jiwoong dan Yurim hahaha.
Aku suka sekaliiii suka suka sukaaa sama kisah mereka berlima waktu masih bareng-bareng!
Wkwkwk.
Dan mereka yang udah jarang keep in touch lagi. Itu tuh.. kayak aku banget wkwkwk. Some of my dearest people when I was on highschool, we never meet each other since we are all on different cities. And somehow our time never match, and it ends up to another.. promises. Another promises to meet, and I hope not the kind of promises that break. If I remember how close we are, how we used to share our secrets, laughing on a joke that it’s just us that know, sharing foods together.. sedih hahaha.
Maybe some people were made for some time.
Different time, different people.
Semua ada masanya.
And I’m glad I have such a great highschool memories that I am not regret it. The only regrets I have is why I don’t try to make money from apa kek jualan apa kek biar bs maeen wkwkwk.
Tapi aku masih menjaga hubungan baik sama mereka-mereka. We just never meet each other, that’s it.
Gara-gara drama ini tuh aku jadi mikir kalau kita tuh emang harus living in the moments karena some moments are just made for once.. Tau-tau udah 5 tahun. Ntar tau-tau 10 tahun.
Ini kenapa bahuku udah pegel yah dibuat nulis segini doang hahaha. Is adulting hits me very hard omg menangisss XD
Aku kehilangan drama ini hiks. Suka banget sama OST-OSTnya bener2 membangkitkan semangat. It’s a very22 good 16 episodes thankyouuuuu jagganimmm & writernimm & Kim Taeri Nam Joohyuk Bona Choi Hyunwook! Drama coming of age yg paling bagus kutonton setelah apa yaah udah lama banget ga nonton drakor sampe selesai setelah Hospital Playlist hahaha.
Terus tuh aku suka banget akting Kim Taeri ihhhh bener-bener she’s a living goddess. Gimana ceritanya usia 33 tahun meranin anak 18 tahun TAPI PAS BANGEET begonya DAPET BANGEEET keliatan BEGO BANGEEETT 😦 Terus so far ini akting Nam Joohyuk yang paling aku suka karena disini dia lumayan nggak flat gitu hahaha kamu cakep kak tapi kalau akting aku masih lebih suka kak Dohyun :)) Terus Bona sama Hyunwook bagus juga aktingnya yaa! Hyunwook itu masih 2002 lho ihhhh muda banget. Aku paling suka yg di opening waktu Hyunwook nutup kepalanya pake ember sambil senyum, senyumnya anak SMA banget XD
Jadi pengen sering nulis disini lagi walaupun nggak penting.
Kupikir-pikir lagi.. Kenapa ya?!!! -______-
Now i so used up to nulis di Instagram & Blogku yang itu, mengunjungi dan menulis blog ini rasanya sebuah kemewahan. Tadi waktu aku ngetik username dan kata sandi, rasanya kayak ngebuka buku harian yang digembok. Disini aku bisa bebas nulis semau-mauku, sengarang-ngarangku, seaneh-anehku, meski hampir semua yang kutulis selalu aneh hahaha. Even the impossible, I can make it possible while I build it through words and letters in this blog.
Na Hee Do, makasih banyak ya! Until we meet again! ❤

Also: 3racha is on 🔥! ^^ And “Can’t Stop” reminded me of about half the soundtrack of Hospital Playlist. (Which is a majority compliment! ❤️‍🔥 Since it’s a very good show with really nice music. Plus it’s partially set in the 1990s. Which is interesting, since it suggests Seungin’s song has kind of a retro vibe.) I noticed the retro vibe as well, even though 1990s Korean music isn’t exactly my forte. 😅 (However…Hospital Playlist, Reply 1988, & ofc Twenty Five Twenty One kind of gave me a taste. 😌)
~ Hanon 🐿
Omg yes! I’m freaking out because of taste but the other two are just as good!!
Our 3racha boys were looking EXPENSIVE!! And also love the beginning of the video were they are just filming each other like that is just so them yk kshsmdb I love that
AND OUR VOCAL DUO! I really love the ost vibe this song has! Is just the perfect song for you to listen while you are doing your daily stuff yk? AND SEUNGMIN’S HIGH NOTE???? HELLO!?
I’m in love with all of them honestly! Our talented boys! Danceracha just needs to calm down a little :)

i’ve had like 3 separate calls with 3 separate friends in the last 5 hours, and you know, i really did come close to crying as soon as i got off the phone with them
#caroline talks#i just suddenly miss all my college friends a lot#like yes we're all in the same state but it's not the same as being a 2 second walk away from them#and ofc when i resume my music OF COURSE spotify decides to put on 'with' from the twenty five twenty one ost#and that was when i started crying a little bit#lol i'm getting drinks with a law school friend later tonight#so it's not like i have NO friends at law school#but like. i suddenly crave that familiarity you know?#where like. i'm with people who i've known for years#and they feel real and sincere and i can be comfortable#i've been watching reply 1988 lately#and i feel a lot for taek because taek reminds me of me in a lot of ways#like. the quiet one in the friend group bc they're a little sad#but like. everyone feels the urge to protect them as much as possible for some reason#when i started watching rpely 1988 i was like 'omg those friends treat taek the same way they treat me'#which is to say. very protective and always super loud but that's bc they know how he's quiet and a little bit melancholy#so they brighten his life so much#and thinking about twenty five twenty one when the gang yells and screams any time they see baek yi jin#and yi jin face palms like oh god#but he also felt like he was finally living his youth when he was around them#same feelings even though obvs all my friends are my own age/maybe a little older than me#but like. i used to feel too old for my age way too often#and i would finally feel my age when i was with my college friends#and i MISS THEMMM#and i didn't realize just how much i missed them#until this morning my friend called me on my walk to school#and it was like we were walking to classes together again#and then my friends facetimed me bc they were getting korean food and missed me#and i CRIEEDDDDDD

do you ever love a drama so much that it pains you just...stop watching it. and you promise yourself that you’ll pick it back up one day but you never do?
yeah that’s me with reply 1988. i love (and i mean looooove) everything about this drama but i’ve been stuck on episode 10 for like four months now. its not even a melo yet every episodes leaves me emotionally drained and in a funk, even if it ends on a happy note.
and it sucks because i adore the ssangmundong crew more than anything. i can’t believe i can handle melodramas or angsty historical dramas where everyone dies with no problem but wholesome slice-of-life dramas? yeah nope can’t do it i’m not emotionally strong enough for it
