Tell me the AU about Resh and Megabird now, please... I need to know

Okay so, I wanted to make an info post with references and stuff but I think that I'm never going to answer you if I wait for the time/motivation to make such a post. So I'll give you a written overall explanation for now oop This AU branches off from my base theory/AU about the sky lore (Ayenbite of Inwit). In this AU Resh and the Elders are fallen stars that have been cast from the skies by the Megabird. Resh in very resentful regarding the Goddess' choice and wants to build an Arc to return the Elders and themselves to the skies (also because they didn't want to be the Chosen One and the entire Prophecy thing has been quite traumatic for them). In the normal version of the story it ends with Resh's plans backfiring and the Shattering happening. HOWEVER, the Corrupted Light AU (the one you asked about) branches off BEFORE this. When Resh starts exploiting Darkstone and building the Eden Crystal in the center of the Life Cycle, instead of letting karma punish them, the Megabird manifests to Resh in dream and warns them she WILL intervene if they keep going down that road. Resh argues with her along the lines of "you never cared or listened to me so why should I?" and she gets mad. At this point she decides to punish Resh for their hubris herself. She breaks her own vow of never directly interacting with her creations and descends on the sky kingdom. At first it's subtle, little things that go wrong, people affected by light sickness instead of dark corruption, it takes a while for Resh to notice. In the meantime the Megabird, now one with her earthly creatures, starts enjoying this game of sabotage a bit too much. She slowly becomes corrupted by her own light and turns evil. At this point Resh has realized her plot but most of the situation is already out of their control. The AU takes place in this tug of war between Resh and the Megabird as the land slowly crumbles in this active war between light and darkness, where light almost takes the place of the dark corruption that was plaguing the lands beforehand. For Resh is a terrifying struggle for survival against a force so much stronger than theirs, a direct confrontation with their mistakes and destiny. For the Megabird is a sadistic game of sorts, she has given up on preserving life and seeks to control and destroy her own creations.

There she is in her earthly form btw This is the only reference I have for now, but I plan on making proper ones in the future!

Golden Wasteland: Then vs Now

What do you think it used to be called, before industrialization, when Alef was just a boy with a dream of creating a brighter tomorrow? Before the pipes and turrets in the name of "safety" and "modernity."

At what point did the name shift? Was it generations after the war laid waste and left the area in ruin? Or were there hushed whispers in the far corners of the realms of how certain areas were becoming desolate wastelands, uninhabitable by any Creature of the Light, even as King Resh reigned?

As for the workers who built the turrets brick by brick, laid the pipes across the vast expanse of grassy knolls, and hand-painted the sun and diamond motifs on their historic buildings - do you think they questioned it at all? Were there quiet mutterings of doubt and disapproval of the King's orders, followed by the uneasy silence and warningful glances of friends, family, co-workers?

Were there activists? Of course there was the whole resistance, but we always frame it as the realms fighting one another - what about the people living within the realms of prosper and privilege? Were there none who noticed the ecological turmoil beginning to take hold around them? Surely there was infighting amongst the higher classes and elites as the effects of industrialization were becoming more and more apparent.

Who would have received word of these complaints? Would people be punished for speaking out? Or would the concerns be raised to the proper authorities? And who were those authorities? The Elders?

So many questions, so few answers. I desperately need Sky: The Two Embers to be out, like, now.

AURORA in the AU is more similar to a performer who's also a seasonal guide, and the songs they play during the concert where you get teleported and become a bird or a jellyfish are like a collective meditative experience.

This old Resh cutscene is so silly I can't stop laughing. Resh really saw a random sky kid passed out on the floor, saw their candle, went "Are you going to eat that?", did not wait for an answer, and just fucked off into the distance. To say I am cackling is not to say anything- and the distant thunder just makes it all so serious and for what JHDGJEDGHGHED

You can see that his cutscene was only at the testing stages and very unfinished, probably from the time TGC was still figuring out the story, considering how clanky and minimal the animation as well as resh's model is

Pretty much! I actually have a bunch of sky cotl drawings, but most of the time they are wips and they feel out of context because theyre usually about the au. However, I wouldn’t mind answering questions about it though! Don’t expect much when asking about the elders because I have been focusing on my sky kid ocs more than the elders lately. Alef is pretty much the only elder i have proper au lore around because the sky cotl au is centered around alef and resh (lol).

Have these sketches of… majority of my sky kid ocs. As a treat.

As for non-sky ocs, i have been making oc art wips to post on a different site. I end up sharing more details there because that site’s designed to share oc lore.

The thing my ocs are for have been referred to as “malignant rebirth project” or mp for while. But I have been calling it “Malignant Magia” to refer to the main story im focusing on. To be honest, most of my “aus” have a connection to this thing. Here’s the main cast. (Minus one, woops!)

No Escaping the King

There was no way around it. He knew that. Everyone and their adoptive mother knew it. So why did Finn keep going back to those dimwits as if there was a way? His king gave him orders, and he had no choice but to follow them. And yet…there was that little voice in the back of his mind telling him that there was a way. He didn’t have to listen, he could leave, do something better with his life than—no. He frantically shook his head. He couldn’t. Resh would find him. He had said as much earlier that morning. All he had to do was keep “hanging out” with the dimwits until he found something that could be of use to Resh. That was all he could do to forget. Forget the soft smiles that Raylah and Sofii gave each other, the way Kace and Theo would tease each other. They’d even started to joke around with him! He couldn’t get attached. He wouldn’t. But how long could he keep this up before one of them caught on that something was wrong? He didn’t want to think about that. So Finn smoothed down his hair, put on his usual confident smile, and walked out of the shrine.

Sofii had told him they would be at the Assembly treehouse. He’d been there a handful of times, but never long enough to appreciate it the way they obviously did. It was the only place Kace would hang out before he joined the group! Finn found himself wondering, not for the first time, why he liked it so much. He could see plenty of reasons for it, but he didn’t know what reason Kace had for being there so often. Regardless, the dimwits had told him to meet them there, so there he was, standing in front of the treehouse and staring up at it as if it was a krill about to jump him. He raked his hands over his face in frustration before walking in.

“Hey, Finn! Come join us!” Sofii called out, turning around and waving to him. They were sitting on the floor by the shelves in a circle. Why they didn’t just use the chairs, he had no idea. Maybe they just preferred being close to each other. He flopped down on the ground between Kace and Raylah.

“Hey,” he waved back to Sofii, who smiled as if someone had handed her all of Orbit to hold in her little hands.

“We doing anything interesting today?”

He glanced at Theo, who was closely inspecting his staff.

“Just sitting and talking. No misadventures—“

“Or sad attempts at ice skating,” Kace interrupted. Theo lightly pushed Kace, who made an exaggerated move of falling over.

“I’d pay to see you try to ice skate, Theo,” Finn said with a smirk on his face.

Theo cackled, as if it was the most absurd idea he had ever heard.

“In my defense, I was bored and had lots of free time. Raylah tried to show me some of her tricks, and I ended up falling on my ass.”

Sofii burst out laughing, and the sound reminded Finn of a waterfall flowing into a lake. Judging from the look on Theo’s face, he agreed. He cleared his throat and put his staff down beside him.

“Anyways, what do you do in your free time, Finn?”

That is a terrible question to ask me, Finn thought but did not say. He mulled it over for a moment, but he really had no idea how to answer. It’s not like he could tell them “Oh I usually just talk to the dead king about my next plan to spy on you and your pathetic lot through the psychological connection he created between us after becoming king.”

Yeah, right. He needed to come up with something else, and quickly, before any of them got suspicious. It was probably too late for that though, because Raylah was looking at him as if he had grown a second head.

“I like hanging out in Wasteland a lot. You know the little ruined shrine on the left side right after the first krill?”

They all nodded. They had been there plenty of times while doing the daily tasks or candle running.

“I’m there pretty often, but if I’m not there, then I’m in my nest reading a book where nobody can bother me.”

“How antisocial of you,” Raylah replied. Finn rolled his eyes and smirked. Out of all of the dimwits, she seemed to enjoy ticking him off the most. Kace and Theo were usually doing it to each other, and Sofii was just too nice to do it at all. Then he mentally face palmed. I just told them where I am when I talk to Resh, he thought. I’m gonna need to pick a different spot now. Being with them actually scared him a bit. He was honest every time he answered a question, he was more relaxed around them. He knew why. He knew exactly why. But he refused to admit. He wasn’t in the shrine anymore, but that didn’t mean Resh wasn’t watching. He always liked to remind Finn that he had his ways. What’s more, Finn had no idea what he would do now that he had told his new friends about the shrine. Maybe he wouldn’t be able to keep this up as long as he thought.

So Finn comes off as this smartass, but he is secretly terrified because of Resh forcing him to spy on other Sky kids. Is he traumatized? Yes. Am I enjoying it? Maybe-

ANYWAYS I hope y’all enjoyed this one! It was super fun to write! I can’t wait to see what Finn does next hehe

Hey! Back from my little box!

I came back with a little treat about my fav silly barely in lore character resh!

Thought making of a base of how I think resh's development would be like

Early childhood: adopted by dawn elder, he was in pretty good hands, and was well loved. he often draws and collects pretty rocks in his spare time(finding dark stone in the process)

Baby 1st trauma: resh is socially awkward and very strange to an outsiders perspective, this got him bullied badly. So much so he lost an eye when being cornered, he finds himself more distrustful and careful , this also made home selectively mute

Prince: after a long and agonizing goal to achieve all the elements(colored light idk) and fulfill the prophecy, he returns with the title monarch, at the cost of his childhood and innocents

He copes with ignoring his emotional side and subjects himself to using light and dark stone and it's uses for the kingdom

Prime: resh has gained a liking to crafting/engineering and isolated himself with crafting machines, and fully covered his face to hide any forms of emotions and his appearance (he hates how he looks, and acts thanks to his childhood trauma) he keeps his reputation pretty well at this stage

Imprisonment: after losing his kingdom, people, family and his own light all because of his pride and greed, his own guilt acts as a constant chain that keeps him from reconnecting to orbit, pretty much rotting away ever so slowly

(au) rebirth: not really a interpretation of character but more of an idea on what could happen, he would finally let go near to his weakest moments and be reborn in a similar maner to present day sky kids, thought completely forgotten his past identity and simply wanders around the realm, meeting sky kids alike finally belonging in a group that could understand him (despite literally being a living fossil fuel in appearance and age lol)

That's abouty rough idea really, ask some questions I will answer eventually!
