OK so this arrived yesterday from @resinonao3 and I’ve been having a REALLY bad week so I needed this to brighten my day but LOOK AT CUTE BABU BUCKY!!!

I was a little worried when i saw the back of the envelope torn but it was all ok (also, super nice touch on the red star sticker and the inside of the envelope being red which i forgot to take a pic of, like a derp)

“Twelve,” Steve corrects a little numbly, because that’s the easiest part he can address. “I went down on February 2nd. It took them a while to determine whether or not to let the public know. To weigh the demoralization my death will cause against the vengeful heroics my sacrifice will inspire. Clearly, they decided on the latter eventually, but I’ve been told it was pretty close.”

Summary

As a conservator of rare oil paintings for The Met, Steve Rogers thinks of himself part scientist, part archaeologist, but hardly an artist in his own right. Only when he’s faced with the daunting task of restoring a frozen painting from a recently unearthed Nazi art hoard does he start to feel his passion for the craft return. Before he has a chance to understand what that means, Steve is transported to the 1940’s, where he meets both The Winter Soldier himself, and his own destiny.

Case

Color scheme inspired by illustration on title spread.

I only had odd sized bits of this cerulean blue on white marble left over, so I had to get creative with the cases.

Added faux embossing (acrylic gold) on both.

Of course the endpapers are gold. Ribbon bookmark is sky blue.

The most interesting part of this book as far as design problems, was a fictional New York Times article at the very beginning. I just decided to fake a NYT front page layout for this, substituting Goudy Old Style for Cheltenham, and byline in Arial Black.

Steve hasn’t been back to his family’s cottage for years, ever since the car accident took both his parents and his childhood memories. His therapist seems to think it’s a good idea for him to get out of the city for a while, so Steve decides it’s time to fix it up. He rememebrs a lot of things when he’s finally arrives, smells the fresh grass, hears the whisper of the trees, and the familiar warmth of a home away from home. The river outside is familiar too, only Steve can’t quite remember the imaginary friend he invented from it, when he needed one the most.The river remembers him though and will be damned if it watches his old friend sulk in loneliness instead of play with him, like he used to.
