Today, we commemorate one of the darkest period in our country’s history, Marcos’ declaration of Martial Law in 1972. We remember and honor the martyrs whose courage and deep love for our country served as beacon in the darkest nights of tyranny and oppression. We remember them who valiantly fought for democracy and liberation. We honor them. The struggle continues. History continues. We study and learn from history. We believe that we live out our faith in the crucible of the people’s quest for life abundant. Our martyrs lived out the commandment - of laying down their lives for their friends (for the people) so that justice may flow like river and righteousness like a never ending stream. As we put our faith in action, may we never waver in our commitment to serve the cause of justice and peace. In this spirit, some young people and church workers from The United Methodist Church collaborated to make this video of a Filipino translation of a Les Miserables song, “Do You Hear the People Sing?” (Di Nyo ba Naririnig?) version of James Jacolbia. (On a more personal note: I wish to say that I am thankful and proud of these young people and many more out there.
