Let's Talk About Going Home
I write this blog today after attending a group meeting that included a yummy Mexican lunch! Was it the dying part that enticed me to go to the meeting or was it the free lunch? Maybe both. At our ripe ages, it is incumbent upon us to consider “What’s Next?” – at least regarding helping our children manage our passing. At the last several funerals aka memorial services we have attended, each of…

Advent Meditation: Resurrection and the Life
“I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”  #AdventDevotional #AdventMeditation #Hannah #Zechariah
“The Lord kills and brings to life; he brings down to Sheol and raises up.’”Hannah’s Prayer, 1 Samuel 2:6 (NRSV) New Life Some commentators are reluctant to see evidence for the resurrection in the Hebrew scriptures. Yet, Hannah certainly understood the mighty wonder-working power of God to raise us up to life. In a certain way, God had resurrected her own body, making her able to bring forth…

i think it would be funny if people occasionally arose from the dead. like if that was a real-life one-in-a-million but well-documented Thing That Sometimes Happens, and the entire legal system around death (laws on inheritance & marriage & murder etc) had to include caveats for the unlikely-but-scientifically-possible event that the dead person in question might spontaneously self-resurrect, even years or decades after death. it would raise so many inconvenient and absurd possibilities

Steph's Year of Recovery
So! Danny noticed that a new face had made it's way into town. Two new faces actually, an older lady known as Dr Leslie, and a girl about his age called Steph.
He first met them when he was at the hospital for one of his parents. They had stood too close to an explosion again, and he met them while he was in the waiting Area.
Dr Leslie was a strict but obviously caring older woman, who seemed to be the one taking care of Steph as a kind of maternal figure, or maybe more like an Aunt. She greeted him simply and then walked away to talk with the Secretary, leaving him to talk to Steph.
Steph was a blond girl in a Wheelchair, and he could see bandages piking out of her clothes as he talked to her. She explained that she had been in an Accident a few weeks ago that left her wheelchair bound for a while, and that she had come to Amity for their surprisingly good Medical Centers.
He and Steph got along really well, and by the end of it he asked her for her Number so they could continue talking later. They stayed in touch, and when she was finally permitted to leave the Hospital, he introduced her to his friends. They all got along like a House on Fire, both figuratively and in one memorable case very literally (Vlad had pissed them off okay!)
Eventually Steph recovered enough that she moved from a Wheelchair to Crutches, and their shenanigans got even more chaotic (Vlad hadn't even pissed them off, this time was just for fun)
The only thing Danny could complain about was the fact that Steph was hiding something from them.
She said that she had been in an Accident a while ago, which was why they had come to Amity in the first place. But Danny knew it was more than that.
He could sense lingering traces of Death coming from her after all.
...
Steph honestly loved her current life.
Sure she had lost everything, her home, her health, her friends, her life, but she had gained new things too! Like Danny and the Gang! They were honestly some of the best friends she had ever had, and for some reason they just clicked with her instantly.
Danny was interesting and funny, Sam was vegan and a badass, Tucker was smart and witty, they all fit with her personality perfectly! It almost felt like she bad been friends with them for years. (She ignored the way her heart skipped a beat when she saw them)
But she still couldn't shake the sense that they were hiding something from her.
She knew it had something to do with the Ghost Problem in the town. And wasn't that a kicker, there was a whole Supernatural Ghost Outbreak in this Town and nobody knew about it. Dr Leslie had said that Amity was off the map enough to hide from Bruce, but she hadn't mentioned it was hidden from the Justice League itself!
Danny, Sam, and Tucker definitely knew more about it than they let on however. Whenever a Ghost Attack would happen, at least one of them would rush off with some practiced excuse and return after the Ghost Attack was over all dirty. She could guess what was going on, and she really didn't like it.
(This had killed her, she had died doing what they were doing, she didn't want to lose them)
Eventually she had to confront them, coincidentally on the same day they decided to confront her.
"Are you Vigilantes?" / "Did you die?"
"..."
"What?" / "What?"

CLEO THREW JIMMY A FUNERAL... that's so MEAN and also hysterical i love it. he's so offended the whole time by literally every aspect of this. "you're not supposed to attend funerals if you're still alive" "stop arguing about your funeral and let's get on with it". they attempt to bury him. "he was a good man he attempted murder several times" this is so fucking funny,

‘Dungeon Meshi isn’t focused on romance and you may be missing what it’s trying to say if you only focus on that aspect’ and ‘trying to shut down conversations about farcille completely is kinda lesbophonic when that energy isn’t directed towards any f/m or m/m ships’ are both true statements btw.
If you find yourself annoyed that shippers are focusing on farcille but don’t care about other shippers then maybe keep that to yourself. There is a conversion to be had about how fandoms hyper focus on ships but trying to say any f/f ship is responsible for that is kinda insane to me.

Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written,Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord. (Romans 12:19)
Betrayal...at some point in time, happens to all of us. That lie that was told about you, the backstabbing, the secret that was exposed. Instinct tells us we need to get back at them. This is because getting even feels good. We want them to pay now. We want to stop hurting now. We want justice now.
You see, Jesus is the only one who can mete out justice. It's not our job. All we have to do is trust Him. When He is fighting your battle, you will never lose. He will vindicate you, He will make people eat their own words, He will lift you so high that people will be amazed and know that your God is on your side.
Now focus on being more like Jesus, who didn't open His mouth when people spat on Him and did all kinds of evil against Him and put Him to death. The story didn't end in death. There was the resurrection and that was His vindication! Hallelujah!

Let’s Talk About It Some More
I mean. Let’s talk about what the resurrection of our Lord really means to us. I can’t let it go. The resurrection of our Lord changes everything. He proved NOTHING is impossible with God. He proved that what He said would be. Jesus said to Martha after her brother, Lazarus died and was buried: “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.”…

but like. can you imagine being deku and being so besotted with your childhood best friend who hates you, genuinely hates you, for something entirely out of your control. and they've built so many walls between you and you can never fully understand what you did to make them hate you that way, especially since you used to be so close and you don't know how to make it better
AND THEN getting into UA and seeing other people try to befriend this person and do what you tried to do and succeed, like... almost effortlessly. and you start to think 'well maybe my childhood best friend isn't difficult to befriend or all that reluctant to let people in. maybe it was just me.' and, as painful as it is, you try to learn how to accept that the person who had such a profound impact on you doesn't even care that you exist.
AND THEN you literally fight out your feelings with this person and you finally begin to feel like you're on the same ground, like you're finally beginning to understand each other. it'll never be what you dreamed of, but it's close enough. you'll take what you can get.
AND THEN! like two movies, many episodes, a couple literal and metaphorical awakenings and one batman arc later, you find out that NOT ONLY did this person actually care so much all along, they were actually just as obsessed with you as you were with them and that in their eyes, it was YOU who shaped who they were and who they are and had such a profound impact on their life. YOU were their image of victory. that every time you weren't looking, they were looking back. FINALLY, the two of you can finally be what you were meant to be together.
and then they go and fucking die.

Essek crying over Molly's death, saying over and over, "It's not fair, it's not fair...We've all come so far. It's just not fair."
The Moonweaver being absolutely delighted to see Tealeaf defy fate yet again, once more welcoming his newly reborn soul with warmth and love. Looking at what was meant to be his tragic end, and refusing to accept it, "Isn't that the strangest thing? There is nothing after thrice in the sequence, it just ends there. But that doesn't seem right, does it? Or fair. Well. I think we shall just have to make it up."
In case you needed some warm fuzzy Essek and Molly feelings. Essek and his goddess both say the same thing about Tealeaf's death--that losing him just isn't fair--

Okay, we all know being a demigod is a shit position. Its scary and gets you killed in really nasty ways. But I feel like being a Big Three Kid has to be the shitiest position in all the shit positions.
Like, imagine being Thalia Grace. Your dad is king of the gods, lord of the skies. Led a war to get rid of a tyrant. And the only thing you get is his scorned wife AND brother, who both try to kill you (with one technically succeeding), a drunk of a mother, and brother who you thought was dead. Oh, wait, he’s not dead! No instead he was used as an offering to appease your dad’s wife and help fight in a war and prevent mass destruction.
Or maybe you can imagine being Percy. Son of the sea god, the stormbringer, the earthshaker. You get to live with a disgusting, abusive man for around 6 years. Who smells like literal shit. All because your scent as a demigod is too strong, BECAUSE of who your father is. You see things that you aren’t supposed to see and do things that people can’t do and go years thinking something is wrong with you. That your the problem. Then you get to the one place where you’re supposed to be save. But! Here is the kicker! You’re not! Your uncles hate you and you’ve been accused of stealing a symbol of power. A series of events that will kick off a war, and guess what. You’re a center point for it. Welcome to Camp Half-Blood.
Mhm, but then there’s Hazel. Daughter Pluto, god of the underworld and riches. But that doesn’t really change anything does it? She’s still living in 1930s America, in a red state. One where confederate flags still hang if you go deep enough into the city. She go to a school where the kids are supposed to be just like her! They still don’t like her tho. She’s got no idea who your father is, only that he left her with a parting gift. Only it’s not really a gift. Sure, she can pull rubies and diamonds from the earth, all worth millions. But anyone who’s ever gonna touch it will die. She lives with her mother, a woman gone so mad with greed it kills her. And Hazel, by the way. Laying dead Alaska, inhaling oil. But it doesn’t end there! She can’t have her mother suffering for eternity, can she? The answer is no. Hazel gets to spend the next 70 years in the Fields of Asphodel. It still doesn’t end! Because when she’s brought back to life, she gets to fight in a war against giants, her sad story seemingly never ending.
Nico’s a son of one of the Big Three, one of the most ancient and most powerful. But most people look at him as something bad, something not worth taking a second glance at. Something too look away from, mostly. He’s from the 30s, spent years in a magical time casino with only his sister at his side. She doesn’t stay for long though, she dies soon after they discover their heritage. And he doesn’t remember his mother much, a name without a face. A face without a name. He survived an attempted assassination at 2, though it wouldn’t be the only time his was life was threatened. He clings to his sister, even though she’s dead. He’s the son of the god of the underworld, is he not? There had to be a way, and there is. Only she won’t talk to him, she seems more concerned with communicating with the guy who got her killed instead. She chooses rebirth, and he decides to lay it to rest. She’s not coming back, and he has a war to fight in. (He gets stuck in a jar and forcibly outed a few years later, but that’s a lot to get into for now.)
Jason Grace is a pillar of New Rome, their golden boy, their American boy. He’s a son of Jupiter, a natural born leader. He’s been at camp for as long as he can remember, he wants to be praetor soon. He’s had a rocky start, but maybe he’ll be one of the lucky ones. Retire a veteran and live a long life with Reyna in New Rome. Only that never happened. He has no idea where he is, there’s a girl holding his hand, and she’s cute but it feels wrong. They get attacked and people come in and call him a Greek demigod, familiar, yes, but still wrong. It doesn’t feel right. It doesn’t put things into perspective the way it does for Piper and Leo. He’s goes to a quest to rescue Hera, the name sounds wrong. He nearly dies but at least he remembers who he is. He spends the next 6 months trying to get back home, even though he isn’t too sure on where or what home is. He gets there, eventually, but it doesn’t stop there. He’s dragged on quests and battles and fights in the war but at least he survives it, he’s still there. Apollo needs help, he and Piper give him aid. He gets dumped. He doesn’t get to he a veteran in New Rome. Not with Reyna, not with Piper, not with anybody. He doesn’t get kids or grandkids. No, he gets shot down, another demigod buried.
You could be any one of them, really. Pick your poison, but I guarantee you won’t like any of them. Spending years trying to find a place where you belong, where you feel safe. Only for it to never come.
Percy, who, if you really look at the books, isn’t really all that well liked until he’s at least 2 years into camp. Only to then be sidelined because the courages, brave, fearless daughter of Zeus is back from the dead. Nico, the son of one of the most feared and hated gods. Who has death written all over him, who excludes it so much animals can smell it and humans can sense it, who’s been ostracized and pushed off to the side since he was 10. Hazel, who was treated like disease as soon as she stepped foot on camp soil. Who’s gone her whole life looked as something that’s cursed, that will only bring misfortune, a bad omen.
Shit positions, all of them.
